When you place the text on the knife you may want to use another UV Map (Under Data /UV Map). Just select the area where the text will go and use a separate UV map for this and it won't affect the surrounding area

great tutorial i love your style, one thing i’ll point out that could be simply improved is the brushed metal.
because you scaled the one axis up so much to crunch the noise it effectively becomes one value across the whole material. instead i’d recommend scaling the y up just not nearly as far, then scaling down on the x to elongate the noise instead of just crunching it. also the anisotropy slider on the bsdf node is specifically meant to affect the direction light interacts with a material in a brushed metal looking way. turn up that slider and slide the anisotropic rotation until it matches the direction you’re trying to brush the metal in

Love the videos, but for the ones just starting out on modeling products ar assets like this I just want to add a (in my opinion) a really important step, figure out the exact dimensions of the product you are modelling, that will add to it, because if a client wants that knife rendered on a table next to other objects, having the actual scale of the thing will make it perfect. Also one more tip that I use, model in steps, think of them as LODs model the basic shape of the knife with no subdivisions and no details and in separate parts, duplicate the model and save it to a hidden collection, then add your subdivisions and start adding in the details and UVs and so on and so forth, that will give you "save points" and your second to last model should be just a simple texture bake from becoming a asset that can be added directly to a website.

The metal plate that you ask for, which sits between the handle and the knife blade, is to protect your fingers from cutting yourself. let's say you have to defend yourself against a wolf or bear or something like that, if there is a lot of blood on the shaft it will be smooth to handle, and if you were to stab the wolf in the chest because it is standing over you, they have quite hard ribs. And the knife will stop there, while the fingers automatically go over the knife blade. and if you fight a wolf, you have a pretty tight grip on the knife. You can call it a finger guard blade. This was a good tutorial film. Best Regards from Norway.

The one thing i would do differently is that i would use mirror modifier especially for blade. Other thing is that in nature, there is no sharp edges... Even when you look at scalpel through microscope, it's not 100% sharp. This can make a lot of impact on light reflection.

    • @ArijanRace
