    Megalodon (/ˈmɛɡələdɒn/ meg-ə-lə-don; meaning "big tooth", from Ancient Greek: μέγας (megas) "big, mighty" + ὀδόν (odon) (from ὀδούς (odous) "tooth"),[1] is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 28 to 1.5 million years ago, during the Cenozoic Era (late Oligocene to early Pleistocene).
    The taxonomic assignment of C. megalodon has been debated for nearly a century, and is still under dispute. The two major interpretations are Carcharodon megalodon (under family Lamnidae) or Carcharocles megalodon (under family Otodontidae).[2] Consequently, the scientific name of this species is commonly abbreviated C. megalodon in the literature.
    C. megalodon is regarded as one of the largest and most powerful predators in vertebrate history,[3] and likely had a profound impact on the structure of marine communities.[4] Fossil remains suggest that this giant shark reached a maximum length of 14--18 metres (46--59 ft),[3] and also affirm that it had a cosmopolitan distribution.[2] Scientists suggest that C. megalodon looked like a stockier version of the great white shark, Carcharodon carcharias.

    Isn't it funny how there are no cameras that can take a decent picture of Bigfoot on land, and how there are no underwater cameras that can get a decent picture of Bigfin?

    • @smurffigt7431
      @smurffigt7431 6 лет назад +279

      nocalsteve I don't it either when they happen to have shit cameras when "encountering an ufo or a bigfoot", but this one kinda makes sense, why would they need a HD (1080+) camera just for drilling some oil? And even if they did, it would not have changed anything, we would've seen just a fin or two.

      It's funny how you people take the piss, wait till one day someone really is abducted or sees something unbelievable. You still won't believe it because of the camera quality. I am not saying it's real I just wish people woudnt joke. You don't know what's out there or down there no one does. So keep your opinions to yourselfs. There are massive deep sea sharks such as sleeper sharks maybe that's what they saw.
      Unless it looks fake then fair enough but you can clearly see that's a real life shark.

      Megalodons were shallow, warm water creatures that didn't suddenly decide to become deep sea cold water dwellers. That's simply not how evolution or nature in general works. The Megalodon is extinct, so yes, it is impossible.

    I just watched this video. I can tell from the 1 second time between the front pectoral fin and the bottom tail fin that the animal is roughly 10 to 15 feet long. at 1 second between the two fins the distance could be 9 feet which correlates to a speed of 6 mph or 15 feet which correlates to 10 mph. If the distance was say 50 feet this would correlate to a speed of 34 mph which is impossible. It did not kick up a could of sediment as well as it would be unsafe for an animal to move that fast close to the bottom of the ocean.
    Also the shape and size (10 to 15 feet) correlates to a Bluntnose sixgill shark. These are a well known species. Since the size and speed and shape both are easily identifiable the show's producers are intentionally making this garbage up for ratings.

    I totally believe this!
    When I was on a cruise in the mid 1980s, heading west, going through the Panama canal, I was on the top deck just looking at the ocean and I saw a massive shark swimming north. We had just cleared the canal and we were on the edge of the Pacific ocean. It was well over 50ft. But what shocked me was how incredibly fast it swam. 😳 like a stealth rocket in the water. I wish I had pics but back then cell phones weren't even a idea yet. I have talked with many friends about it, everyone laughs and give me cheap cracks like what have you been smoking. I don't drink or do drugs. I'm a retired structural engineer and I know lengths and proportions well. I also dive and have seen great whites under water off Hawaii. But this thing was not a basking, or any other kind, it looked like the biggest great white ever. Ever since that event I became leary of diving and swimming in the ocean. To the point if I'm not on a cruise ship sized boat, then I'm not going. It seriously shocked me. I had some friends with that also saw it. It was seriously massive! Now all this info is coming out about other sightings and o totally believe them! Yes they are alive. Probably living in the deepest part of the oceans. Coming up when food is scarce or to mate? I don't know, but I will never swim in the ocean again!

      I recall their disclaimers were rather vague and quickly flashed in, especially as the credits rolled in the end. These disclaimers were not added after the shows had already aired and people were freaking out either. Nowhere did Discovery Channel clearly state the megalodon shows were fake and intended to be entertainment. They even created fake social media accounts and websites to promote their fake documentaries, especially before airing Mermaids - The Body found and Shark of Darkness - Wrath of Submarine. In fact they did everything to give viewers the impression that they were dealing with proper documentaries, something viewers had come to expect from Discovery Channel. That all changed with their docufictions.
