    Shaving a buck is a good idea for several reasons. It is not just to show them. However, the reason you clip them for show is so the judge is able to see the conformation of the buck. Without all that long hair, you can see what the buck's body looks like. So why wouldn't that be an excellent idea for the breeder as well!? Another great reason to clip you goats is to cut back on the smell. When there is a lot less hair to pee on, there is a lot less smell!

I have a buck who is a sweetheart but has never had a bath or shave. He reallllllly needs it!! Not much info on stand training bathing or shaving bucks. Any advice??

    Good job, Crystal! It seems that Lucky was a real gentleman while you divested him of his glorious albeit shaggy coat. Out of curiosity, will his coat have grown out much by the time of the show; and do you do anything else to make him presentable to the judges, like oil his coat, spray on some manly perfume, etc?

      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 лет назад +4

      Hahha. He is a very good boy! His son I retained has his same temperament. I won't shave again before show. It is next Saturday and his hair won't have grown back much at all. The only thing I do before he steps in the ring is give him another bath. I will use conditioner on his beard tho so it's flowing in the breeze 😅

    Lucky is such an outstanding buck!! His coat looks so beautiful and you can see his white patches more so now that he got a trim. He got muscle under that coat too!!
    The Doe and doelings must have heart in their eyes after that hahahaha.
    Great video!! Can’t wait for the show clips when the bucks take the stage for the ribbons!! :-)

    You did a great job. I don't know if this would help you at all, but I groom dogs, and I also use Andis, and Oster, and I keep a second set of clippers ready, so that when the housing on the 1st one gets too hot, I can just switch off really quickly, I also keep extra blades ready, because even spraying them, there comes a point when they get too hot to use, so if you have an extra, you can just switch blades really quickly, or if your blade is getting dull, it works as well. You have some pretty goats. I want to play in you kid yard SOOO much :-)

    As hot as it is in Az I would imagine that a hair trim is a very good thing. He did so good for his glam cut that he put my boys to shame when they were young. You never heard so much screaming and all I did was turn the clippers on😳😳

    Do goats ever have my issues with their coats not growing back properly or as nice as before it was clipped? As a dog groomer for 9 years I've met many dogs who have damaged coats from shaving, some dog coat types don't show any damage from shaving but some really do. Wondering if it's ever the same with goats or if goat coats are more like a horse or at where it always grows back beautiful

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  4 года назад

      I havent seen that be an issue in my herd. My boys will get areas of broken off hair where they rub on things but not from clipping.

    Hi Crystal! He looks beautiful! Thanks again for sharing and adding links to the clippers & blades. I have a question about the blades you linked. You mention the 4's and a 10 blade but linked a 50 blade. Is the 50 equivalent to a 10 for this clipper? Thanks

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 лет назад +2

      Hello! Thank you for pointing that out! It is a surgical length I use on the udder. So very very short. The higher the number the shorter the blade. I will clarify that in the description and add a link to the 10. Not sure why that wasn't there! :)

    • @blueapples6215

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 лет назад +1

      He is a doll! He can be a stinker but is very friendly and nice. Just don't put anything on his fence. He wants it dead! Hahaa. His ear is from a battle. He was fighting another buck. I'm pretty sure it was bitten off but we were never able to find the ear tip! Things can get serious when the ladies are involved.

      Blue Cactus Dairy Goats wauw I did not know that bucks are so mean in battle . I wrote Bock in Dutch it named Bok. I love is big beard in dutch named “Sik”.

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  6 лет назад

      Very cool! Bok would be a great buck name haha. Yes. Lucky was younger and thought it was a good idea to fight with a much older boy through the fence. We had to make a barrier so they couldn't see each other as well. Lucky has never been one to back down and is king of his pen for sure :)

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats

      Long hair is normal on the bucks. Much more hair than a doe will get. Their hair thins out a bit in the summer but will stay long like that.

    Since they use the power of peepee it's a real good idea to shave them. Cleanliness around the does is a good idea. The Doe's milk will pick up the strong smell of the Billy! PeeU LOL ❤🐐
