Once again, Futok gives an amazing performance. Having heard so many other performances, I can honestly say this one has the finest double-bass playing. The first two strings are tuned up one whole step. There used to be an edition by Stuart Sankey written for this tuning. It does not appear to be available any more. You can see/hear the disasters when this piece is performed on the modern bass with the usual tuning.
That's NO BASS! The Aria was written for the original Sarastro of Zauberflöte. This man's not got that voice, but is a pleasant enough baritone. Furtok is fabulous!
