    The bookmaker, William Hill was based in mallow during the war of independence as a Black & Tan, they were well paid, and after serving two years in Ireland he had enough money saved to open his first bookie shop in england

      That was a long time after he left Mallow it was still illegal till around the 1960s

      @@MrTomomahony according to their website he opened his first shop in 1934 , park lane in london, after his first foray into the betting sector in birmingham in the 1920s didnt work out

      He was taking bets off other soldiers in the roundabout bar that is how he started.

    I love hearing success stories like this. The Irish Rebels fought well and someday the 6 counties that are in bondage will be free. That day will come.

    These stories of Irish history are amazing .. these brave men were almost always outnumbered .. with fewer weapons .. and yet they pulled off these maneuvers with incredible skill and effect .. they did this each time using their secret weapons .. raw courage.. and awesome teamwork .,

    Really is amazing how daring and brave the volunteers were and the planning that went into them. They left their foe alive something that the British wouldn't have done. Another great video Davy. Go raibh maith agat 🍀🇮🇪✊

    Great to see the history of Mallow been told. 👍. May i suggest other ambushes you might want to make a video of. The Nadd ambush , Clonbanin Ambush. Rathcoole Ambush .Mourneabby Ambush. Also the shootout in Mallow train station. Love your videos 👍

      Thank you buddy. For the war of independence, you can’t go wrong with Lorcan Collins’ book called ‘Irelands war of independence’. Movie wise, ‘The Wind That Shakes The Barley’ is a must!

    Hey, could anyone explain to me the origin and/or the significance of the harp seen on flags and insignia specific to Ireland? (At least I think it's a harp, it look like one)
    I play Crusader Kings and I started as an Earl in Munster and eventually united all of Ireland and formed the Kingdom of Ireland. Once you've done that, the game gives you a new "Irish Kingdom" flag, which is a blue background with a gold harp in the fore. I'd love to know the significance of it
