I purchased 2 prints from their online store. Arrived in the mail just a week after in perfect conditions. Very satisfied, great job! Greetings from Italy
It was a pleasure to meet you today David! We love our prints and are so glad this was our first stop on our Tokyo vacation! Tom, Amy and Mat from Sheffield
I love this man. Coming from a family of hatred, he lets me see the beauty the world can have. He can make me feel truly at peace. Thank you so much!!!
Ahh, this is *wonderful!* I can't wait to see the final prints! ...I know I'll undoubtedly end up getting these, as cats are my favorite things in life. I'd like to tell you that you inspired me - me and my two friends were recently at your studio for a print party! (You might remember my neko-themed socks? :) ) I started talking to friends who draw... and I'm going to give wood block carving and printing a try!
honestly, i think you're going to get a deluge of sketches, you're playing with cats and "memery" here David. These are powers of exponential potentialities :O
Fantastic Idea! Wow this would be a dream come true for me, I am most definitely going to submit, thank you so much for this opportunity! What a fun series this will be!!!
Excellent David very glad the vid is from May 31, 2019 and not three years ago. when I saw the previous video I wrote down the traditional themes and your comment on Cats for my own drawing, very cool that you would ask for my concepts, just days later
I have shared a link to this video on my Facebook page for all my cat entusiast, art enthusiast, and artists friends...I like to encourage artists of various types to make more cat-centric art. and am very happy to see that you are accepting entries. Thank you Sir.
I just wish I could submit something for this! Such a great idea, and wonderful opportunity for someone. I love and paint cats, among other things, and have had a lifelong interest in Japanese art. I hope to try woodblock printing myself next year. But at this moment I'm working towards a huge project, so could not work on a woodblock design until December. Just my luck. I'm hoping you will do another series in the future, that I can submit a design for. Love the videos, by the way and have learned SO much from them.
I replied below, but I had better put this in again ... Iscrewed up ... I tried to do too many things at the same time (I live streamed the recording session on Twitch yesterday morning), and ended up doing it with the gain switch on the digital recorder at the minimum setting ... leaving me with a very bad signal/noise ratio. I'll try harder to get it right next time ... sorry! :-(
We've been checking further on this ... something strange is happening. I did the editing on my iMac, and honestly speaking it doesn't sound so bad (either through the computer's speakers, or my headphones). But just now, one of our staff members played it for me on his iPhone, and it's insanely hissy ... totally unbearable! What's going on?
@@seseragistudio Out of my laptop speakers it's barely noticeable. With my headphones in it is quite a bit more pronounced. I think it might be whatever audio range the fuzz is in. With some speakers it's outside of their range and with others it's in. I'm not an audio guy though so that's just my thoughts.
Please reconsider your decision to not offer a ‘subscription’ option - I (and, I’m certain, others) would be happy to purchase them as a set, perhaps even with a box/stand!!
I'll try my best to send in some concepts. I really like your prints and I think this would be a cool way of returning the magic of your prints back to you
Lovely idea, Dave... but are you planning on bringing out a new batch of Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" soon? I'm hoping to receive a notification email from your website one day.
I don't think it's a problem ... we'll actually be sending out the initial Stage 2 requests next week, based on some very interesting designs already received ... (The two stages will run concurrently all summer ...)
Hey David, wanted to let you know that there was a static hiss noise throughout the video. It's not overpowering or distracting but it's there. By the way, cool idea. Can't wait to see what happens.
David, don't the position on the table give you neck or back pain? I use a higher table (than the benches I see in your videos - are them confortable?) and struggle with pain after carving. Is there any tip on the position? Thanks so much for your videos!
About the designs that have been submitted so far: Although all of them are appealing in their own right, some artists have clearly taken a much more literal approach when designing their sketches than others. Some of the entries are simply landscape images with a cat in them, while others have found a clever way to incorporate the themes of the „eight views“ series into domestic scenes in which cats are the main focus. I think Jonathan Huff’s, Kristen Whitaker’s and Daniel Parker’s designs are exemplary in this regard - remove the cats from these images and you lose the underlying theme as well. I hope Dave chooses designs that represent such a clever combination of visual motifs instead of images that are „only“ beautiful.
I'm going to be talking about this in the next video update (whenever I can get it ready). The question "Why is there a cat in this image?" has to be answered ... It's not sufficient to show a nice scene, and simply plant a cat at the side, looking at it ...
That is a great idea! Although I dont have the skills to create a sketch of my own, I am eager to see the submissions. One word of - perhaps unrelated - criticism though: I think it might be time to update your audio equipment. The buzzing white noise in these videos is not that loud, but still noticeable, especially in comparison to the quality standard of RUclips videos these days.
I’ve got a great concept for a print. I will be submitting something soon. I used to sketch and paint a bit as a hobby but haven’t done anything in years. I’m not sure I could produce a usable work of art that would be up to your standards. But I’m intrigued by the idea enough to give it a try. No guts, no glory, right?
So let's say people submit some art, but they only cover 6 out of the 8 views. Would you contact some people to revise their works to incorporate a missing theme or would you ask Jed to make the missing ones?
The idea is to select design from eight different people. Nobody needs to submit more than one idea, although already many people are taking a stab at more than one ...

Ttttttttttmm?mnbbb
The madlad actually did it
1:22 The 8 themes list.
Evening Snow
Night Rain
Autumn Moon
Evening Bell
Returning Sails
Descending Geese
Evening Glow
Clearing Weather.
I laughed the first time you mentioned 'one of the first memes' , I laughed the second time and I will probably laugh every time
We definitely need one of a cat knocking something off of a table.
Perhaps a vase with geese on it, to keep it in concert with the with the 8 Views theme (descending geese, which are descending alright).
@@GreyWolfLeaderTW what a great idea!! david needs to see this
Then I think you will be happy to see his latest upload mate!
Well, evening rain is obviously a frightened cat in a shower :D

Thank you! Looking forward to this project and all the surprising results. Bravo Dave, for inspiring us :)

Hello Dave! I love your work! Thank you for your videos!
WHY CAN'T I STOP WATCHING HIS VIDEOS HELP ME
I love your spirit and how you handle a competition. Such a breath of fresh air. Starts scratching my head about ideas.
I always get so excited when I see a new video from you! 😄

Great idea for engagement! You make a series for dogs and I'm in.
Great idea! Looking forward to see the results of good collaboration!
Brilliant and exciting! I’m off to start drawing! I needed a new project! Thank you 🙏👍😎
This is such a cool idea! 😎😎 great video Dave, thank you !
What an exciting opportunity for all the budding artists out there, good luck guys I can't wait to see the ideas and designs that you come up with.
What a great idea. If I was a decent artist I'd give it a go. It's a fantastic way to get the public involved.
I can't wait to see "descending geese-cats" 😀
Dave has a Bob Ross like feel to how he explains things and I love it so much

I will most definitely be buying all eight when they are finished!
Hey David - Just wanna day I love these videos. Sending good energy your way!
WOW... I'm extremely tempted to take a stab at this
DO IT
Wonderful idea. I will get to sketching. It will be fun to see what people come up with it.
Hmm, allready got an idea for returning sails. But going to need to put some thought into how best to subvert all of them. A really cool project!
Oh!! Cats!!! I'm so excited! If only I were a drawing artist as opposed to a musical artist - I would totally go for it

I dont know nothing about those craving but ill be damned this man is relaxing
A very, very fair approach.
I love this man lol.
There is something with your mic that makes the video make an annoying tinitus sound like it was an old TV.
Great video nonetheless!

Well great, now I can't unhear it. lol It's not really to bad. Just a low fuzz.

I actually like that noise because it reminds me of the old days of broadcast tv. But I can see how some might not like it.

If one of the final 8 prints features a Persian cat, you'll be earning my business. Regardless of price or sub-theme. I mean it.

Wow! After watching the eight veiws video I posted a cat design for the evening rain theme last week! I can't wait to participate!
Very cool idea for a series.
Love the videos. So interesting 🙂
I'm joining in! I love cats and I feel like I need to contribute at least something to this community which I've grown to love.
Love this channel
Sensei dave!! Love you!!
this is such a fun concept. sadly i have no artistic ability but i wish you luck in finding many great designs!
So excited to see this new project!
love this idea

Super exciting! These videos are uniformly excellent btw - keep them coming
Lovely idea, Dave... but are you planning on bringing out a new batch of Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" soon? I'm hoping to receive a notification email from your website one day.
He prints about 60 per month. The waiting list is probably closer to a year long at this point.
1ungawa Thanks for the heads-up. I thought he would still be giving all the blocks time to rejuvenate.
@@TimD.Morand I guess 60/month is a good balance for letting them rest and still having them produced.
thanks for uploading this!
this will be so cool. I can't wait
Are you aware of Horitomo the tattoo artist? He does traditional Japanese tattoos of his Monmon cats.
I'd recommend to keep Stage 1 shorter and expand the time for Stage 2 so that the invited designers have more time to work on their final submissions.

This sounds like so much fun! I'd love to contribute.
Great idea. I just hope your audience has some hidden artists. Maybe you should consider sharing this clip somewhere where artists hang out?
