- To start, we’ll go over Installation Tools & Supplies we use in this video. Most of these Supplies can be found in the Installation Tools and Supplies area of our website.
Trim Knife for trimming; Rapid Prep cleaning solution as well as Rapid Tac Cleaning and Application Fluid; Edgeless Microfiber Towels; Product Parts List downloaded and printed from the Parts List area of our site; Heat Gun; China Markers - Black or White (depending on the color of your vehicle); Application Squeegee; ¼” Fineline Layout Tape; and a Crush Swab of Pro Bond Adhesion Promoter.
Take time to review the Product Parts List for reference.
When you receive your kit you’ll notice that while the pieces are precut you will still need to trim each piece from the carrier sheet the graphics are printed on. Once the graphics have had sufficient time to settle from the Shipping Container, carefully trim each piece approximately 1/16” from the graphic edge.
Proceed to trim openings such as the Fuel Door and Door Handles.
Trim the product identification label from the carrier sheet. We’ll suggest what to do with that later in the video.
As suggested on the Product Parts List, we always suggest dryfitting each piece onto a clean vehicle so as to verify fitment and to become familiar with proper application.
With the vehicle properly washed and dry, proceed to spray the surface with a liberal amount of Rapid Prep or other solution that assists in removing wax, polish or oil residue.
Wipe area dry with a clean, lint-free microfiber towel. We suggest edgeless microfiber towels so as to reduce the possibility of abrasion from nylon edge threads.
Take care to properly clean the rear of the door edges where the Front and Rear doors meet. We’ll be wrapping the graphic around the edges and a clean surface will promote adhesion.
Follow up the initial cleaning with another spray and wipe of Rapid Tac. This will sufficiently prep the surface for application.
The graphic kit has been designed to be placed along the Wagoneer’s distinct upper body line. Using a China Marker, place small horizontal guide marks along the edge.
With the guide marks in place, set the bottom of the ¼”Fineline Layout Tape along the edge to serve as a guide for proper placement. This step is critical to ensure the panels are placed at the same height and follow the bodyline. It may take several tries from the front and rear to lay a close to perfect guideline. With the lines in place, vehicle has been prepped for application.
While this video illustrates what we call a “Wet Application”, graphic panels may be applied Dry, if desired.
In a well lit, clean, and draft free area spray vehicle as well as the rear of the graphic panel with a liberal amount of Application Fluid. A proper amount of fluid will allow the panel to slide around and into place.
Carefully place the graphic onto the vehicle up to the Fineline Layout Tape and in the proper left and right placement. The Front Fender piece is designed to be placed approximately ⅛” from the Door Jamb edge.
Once placed, use a squeegee to remove fluid and air from behind the panel. Use gentle pressure to start and build squeegee pressure once the panel has properly adhered to the application surface.
Notice the approximate ⅛” space between the edge of the graphic and Door Jamb edge.
Spraying the application tape with Application fluid allows the Squeegee to glide better with more pressure and it also helps release the application tape from the applied graphic.
With the panel successfully applied, carefully remove the outer application tape.
Repeat the application steps on all the other panels.
Be careful when removing application tape in the door jamb area. Panel is designed to wrap into the door jamb. Thus, the additional amount of panel graphic will be loose.
With application tape removed, carefully peel back the graphic edge so as to be able to open the Front Door.
With the Front Door open, “crack” into operation the adhesion promoter crush swab. Proceed to place a little film of adhesion promoter on the area where the film edge is to be applied. Be careful to not get any on the adhesive side of the graphic panel.
Using a Heat Gun, warm the edge of the graphic and work the graphic edge around the corner as shown.
While the door is open, place some adhesion promoter on the rear part of the Front Door edge.
In order to place the Fuel Door piece so it lines up with surrounding Wood Grain, carefully peel about 1” of application tape from each side of the graphic. This will allow you to perform a proper grain match.
Fuel Door cover may easily be removed with a Flat Blade Screwdriver for Wrapping and Trimming purposes.
To set panels, we suggest “post heating” the entire graphic with a Heat Gun. Take care to not allow the heat gun to stay in one place too long. Too much heat may glossify Satin surfaces. Keep the heat gun moving so as to simply Warm the panel material’s adhesive.
