The shrimp have been doing such a great job with with the algae. The algae is almost all gone! 😁 Do you ever have issues like this when setting up a planted aquarium?
Yeah, all my plants died (Anubias and Java Ferns). My tank was overruned by algae. I decreased the light from 8hrs down to 5 hours (it did not work). I finally noticed the window was providing enough light for my planted aquarium.
Best clean up crew I've used is Horned Nirite Snails. They don't reproduce and are super active. Been using them for years along with a few Shrimp and Flourish Excel on a daily basis plus "Co-Op easy Green" once a week. Fully planted tank one is 4 1/2 gallon US and one is 2 gallon US... No Algae ever...8^}, Plus my Anubias are blooming!!!
About telhr stand, you really need to lower the water level because with just a little push or an earthquake, the tank may start leaking or even burst, so 4 your own safety and the srimp's 2 lower the water a few centimetres
Here in belgium its like 11 pm and i really need to go to sleep and then i get a notification of rio and im like : man wathever not gonna watch it tomorow gotta watch it now!!! Keep up the good work!!
@@RyoWatanabee I just started a 10g reef tank aswell! I would love to see you start one. I've put in all super hardy and easy corals such as: Xenia, green star polyps, and zoas. It is not hard at all.
Hello. Love your videos. A few suggestions for you to consider. 1) I see you are resting your bucket on the side of the tank when topping up with water. Try not to do that although the tanks may withstand the weight. I know water is heavy but it is better to be careful over small little things that can lead to disaster. 2) try to stop dosing any fertiliser for now as your tank is just newly setup and already have issues with algae. You need to go to the root of the problem to eradicate algae. And your tank does not have many plants for now. Good luck.
This is the way I’ve been taught by the ADA guys though. I’ve been getting tips and advice from them over the past few months as I’m currently working part time at Aqua Revue
Super Tip: Melamine is super easy to cut into smaller sponges. U can make 3 from that one sponge, roughly the same size but only 10mm thick each. So ur supplies go further 😁👍
Hi Ryo, Enjoying your videos. In New Zealand the ever-present danger of earthquakes is an issue too. You probably do need to reinforce your setup to prevent a disaster occurring! Just a quick note on your otherwise excellent English. If you are speaking about a number---use the word 'many'---as in "many times" etc If you are talking about a quantity---then you use the word much. "Too much sugar" for example. Hope this helps. ;-)
I got a large plastic planter at Ollie's Bargain Outlet(similar to big lots). Twenty bucks for 25gal. Check places like that. This is my 3rd summer with it. Even though it's decorative, it has held up.
You should increase the co2 amount and put it a a couple hours before the photo period starts, you may put a very fast growing plants till the aquarium and filter reach an equilibrium
That is not a dissaster, is normal diatomea when you start with few plants for that volume, but is easy to fight, only mechanical removal if seems neccesary , normal change of water routine and focus in plants health. Saludos from Chile 😉
Yeah, I will in the future for a bigger tank that I’m currently planning for. I love the look of the ADA garden stand for a 2ft tank. Very sturdy and minimalist looking
Add a UV light into your filter. Alternatively, add some copper sulphate to the water. Shrimps are OK if this was your intention to have them in the first place.
Attach the stand to the wall with bracing. Can't be that complicated Some screws and a drill with the right steel drilling bit. Then wood screws into that molding. If Uncle can restore a VW Beetle,he can do that for you in 20 minutes or so. " Japan Depot" should have all you need for less than 1000 yen. Minus Drill and bit. Uncle must have those.
There’s no way I’m drilling holes into this wall. This is a traditional japanese dirt wall so the wall would start crumbling down. We’d have to change the walls to more modern walls first
Ryo the place where you have the tank is no good, its right next to a window that gives much extra light. This creates the allergy, you should mask the window if you cant move the tank
Hey Ryo I would sugggest adding in some fast growing plants temporarily because your balance between fast vs. slow growing plants is not optimal in my eyes
Can you share with us the Japanese culture of keeping goldfish? The symbolism, how they keep goldfish( do they use filters) and when do Japanese people keep goldfish ; is it seasonal and the culture around goldfish.
I know that those are really good but I just don’t like having that thing attached to the glass. Kind of an eyesore especially because I’m trying to make this a nice display tank. I might get one of those for my stock tanks though :)
Algae is always going to be caused by an imbalance of something, be it light, nutrients etc. Might wanna check your substrate you are using or if your lighting period is too long or too strong.
Awesome tank ! I would love if u could check out my 55 gallon review, your feedback would mean alot 😀 im new to the game so any tips and info would help.

those are brown diatom , quite common during start up

I had algae problems too when i first started my planted tank, managed to get it under control.
Yup, algae will sort out on its own once you balance everything out

all of the big flower pots in the United States like at Home Depot have holes at the bottom, otherwise I would love to do Rice Fish. :(
I think you can try to be Creative. Make a diy plug and maybe silicone it in place to cover the holes
Whiskey Barrels work great too.

Hello Ryo you have such amazing videos. Wish I came across your channel earlier. You just earned yourself a new subscriber!
Hey Ryo how often do you do water changes for the rice fish and do you do any else to maintain their container?
I do a big clean out once a year. Otherwise, I just top it up with clean water once a week
do you measure the temperature of the water and have it on par with the tanks current temperature before putting it in ?
Stand needs some X bracing should be cheap find a welder and paint it can't rust if water can't contact.
I wouldn't wait for an earthquake or somebody just bumping up against that aquarium to test the stand. Nice update. Thank you.
That stand needs diagonal brace beams for structural support.
No, its steel, very strong.
Thats phase seems common by the way the plant at the back looking pretty cool what is the plant?
What is the name of that FILTER from sink to bucket? Really need it. Hope somebody can name it for me
Where can I buy the NA water please
Make a honey gourami pond with ceramic bowl that your neighbours gave you
Nice Amano shrimp😁 they are very useful for planted tank like yours😁😁
Yes! Amano shrimp are awesome :)
Hope that they clean your tank😁
What's the size of the tank?
stand base must be heavier than the top to be stable.

Hey Ryo, what's the dimensions of your 20G tank?
It’s not a 20G tank. It’s about 16G. 60cm by 30cm by 36cm
Do you do water change for the rice fish? Also do they need air pump
No, I just top up water. Water evaporates quite fast. I’ll do a big clean out once a year though

From my local fish store Aqua Revue
Excuse me, what's the song playing at 2:25?
maybe you should add frogbit or another floating plant to control ammonia in first month.
take care bro from corona

I had always a planted tank... but NEVER added CO2... never got so much algeua
Yup, Low tech tanks and high tech tanks. Mine is a high tech set up so there will always be algae in the early stages
Add some floater plants
Hey were those choseiran at 8:06. I love Japanese orchids👍

Haha, I’m not so sure about orchids but thanks for noticing that :)
I think that becuase your take next to window and sunlight straight in to your tank , that’s why your tank a lot of algea . That what i think
Mollies and gold dust are my master cleaner in my tank
Yo those shrimp would make a good stir-fry hahahahaha
maybe look into mixing your own micro and macros cheaper in long run too =]
I’d have no clue where to start
Get a magfloat magnetic glass cleaner with the scraper, it will save you alot of trouble

Algae and fish food

It’s normal for algae at the starting phase of a setup. Especially when you use ADA soil. I’m not worried about it
ryo nice aqua
Must you get a molly because
The molly fish eats a algae
I have a planted tank with molly = no algae☺

maybe your problem is how long you turn on your LED, and then give the co2 inject, and max lamp for 8 hour.
It’s not a problem. This is normal when you set up a tank using ADA soil. I run my lights and co2 6 hours a day
