You just heard one of the greatest Tenors of all time. I love this man's voice and wasn't an opera fan until I heard Pavorotti. He sang with such feeling and emotion. Clear, concise notes. Knowing how to raise and lower his voice in particular areas of the song. Perfect vibrato, timbre and color in his singing. He makes you feel what he sings. Never mind that I couldn't speak italian. I took the time to look up the lyrics and transposed them to English. I am so glad there are recordings that are available to listen to. I listen to this "Nessun Dorma" once or twice a week maybe more. My only regret is that he passed before I could go hear him in person. This should be on everyone's bucket list.

Some information, Nessun Dorma is an aria from the opera Turandot by Puccini. It was written over one hundred years ago. Luciano Pavarotti was the most famous tenor of the past 50 years. Opera is a musical art that originated in Italy and there are many beautiful arias from various operas, sung by male and female opera singers.

For those who don't know opera; Luciano Pavarotti is one the GREATEST Tenors in opera history. Now, this particular aria, "Nessun Dorma" (Nobody Sleeps) from the opera "Turandot" by Puccini is a benchmark aria for the top Tenors because on the final refrain of "Vincero" (I will win) the singer must hit and hold the Tenor B4 note. Another great Tenor aria is "Vesti La Giubba" (Put on the Mask) from "Pagliacci" by Leoncavallo. Check out Mario Lanza's (also one of the best ever Tenors) rendition of "Vesti La Giubba", it's great. There have been several great Tenors in opera history, Pavarotti is definitely one of the greatest, along with his Three Tenors (great CD) members Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo, and the old timers like Franco Corelli, Jussi Bjorling, Beniamino Gigli to name a few. Many consider Enrico Caruso to be the GOAT Tenor.

One of the things about opera that I've discovered is that it's even better when you know what the heck they're singing about. This song is from the opera "Turandot" - a fairy tale type story. In order to marry the princess he must discover her true name. He is faced with the challenge and he has one night to discover it. "Nessun Dorma" means "No one shall sleep." He is vowing to do everything possible to win the contest and make the princess his own. The last lines of the song: "a l'alba vincero. Vincero! Vincero!" which translate to "When the dawn comes, I will be victorious! Victorius! Victorious!" - Just wanted to share this with you guys.

Opera is a combination of singing and acting. To truly appreciate opera you should research the story behind the song. This is from the opera Turandot, by Puccini.
    Lyrics
    No sleep!
    Nessun dorma!
    No sleep!
    Nessun dorma!
    You too, oh Princess
    Tu pure, oh Principessa
    In your cold room
    Nella tua fredda stanza
Look at the stars that tremble
    Guardi le stelle che tremano
    Of love and hope
    D'amore e di speranza
But my mystery is closed in me
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me
No one will know my name
    Il nome mio nessun saprà
No, no, I'll say it on your mouth
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò
    When the light shines
    Quando la luce splenderà
    And my kiss will melt
    Ed il mio bacio scioglierà
The silence that makes you mine
Il silenzio che ti fa mia
(No one will know his name
    (ll nome suo nessun saprà
And we must, alas, die, die)
E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir)
    Fade away, oh night
    Dilegua, oh notte
    Set, stars
    Tramontate, stelle
    Set, stars
    Tramontate, stelle
    I'll win at dawn
    All'alba vincerò
    It will win
    Vincerà

So that the opera singer is able to give a good performance on stage full of emotions and acting. They must have learned the technique of singing for at least ten years. After this time, they have experienced the singer so well that they don't have to pay attention to her and they focus on the acting part. Im opera singer. this is normal siging form me. But yes, he had great voice :) ... I heve bassis voice - like: E. Schrott, Adbarzakov. I like D'Arcangelo, too.

    the opera is in Italian.
Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma! None shall sleep! None shall sleep!
Tu pure, o Principessa, Not even you, oh Princess,
nella tua fredda stanza, in your cold bedroom,
guardi le stelle watching the stars
che tremano d'amore, e di speranza! that tremble with love, and with hope!
    Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me; But my secret is hidden within me;
il nome mio nessun saprà! no one will know my name! No, No!
Sulla tua bocca, No, no! On your mouth, lo dirò quando la luce splenderà! I will say it when the light shines!
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà And my kiss will dissolve
il silenzio che ti fa mia! the silence that makes you mine!
Dilegua, o notte! Vanish, o night! Tramontate, stelle! Fade, you stars!
Tramontate, stelle! Fade, you stars! All'alba, vincerò! At dawn, I will win!
Vincerò! Vincerò! I will win! I will win!

Milly, I forgot to watch this video of yours and I want to say I had a chance to watch *The Three Tenors,* a version of this in 1990 live on PBS. The three greatest modern tenors performed various well know opera and other songs. This one was done in Paris in 1994 or 1996 and also in Rome. Let me tell you something. I know you haven't watched The Three Tenors before (Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti) from Rome 1990, but do yourself a favor and react to a few arias (songs). I will even give you a suggestion: Placido Domingo. Here's a link.

The late Luciano Pavarotti was the greatest bel canto tenor since Enrico Caruso. He was loved for his performances particularly in Puccini and Verdi operas. I would urge you to listen to him sing "Che Gelida Manina (your frozen little hand)" from La Boheme. ruclips.net/video/Y9268sIt5mk/видео.html

Luciano Pavarotti, imo, is the greatest singer of all time. There was a chirping noise in the background of your video that was *totally distracting* from start to finish. Completely annoying & took away from the master’s great performance. Your videos would be a lot better if you controlled the sounds present in your recording area.

Try yet another classical music one, Every summer the BBC holds what they call the Prom Concerts. A lot of serious music, but on the last night of the festival, they let their hair down a little. The orchestra dresses in bright colours, there are streamers and balloons everywhere and the audience of normally cultivated ladies and gentlemen can get a little rowdy. This is a song sung by Anna Netrebko from an operetta called Giuditta by Franz Lehar. and she wows and teases the audience That's all you need to know, as the screen has English subtitles. Enjoy. .ruclips.net/video/p_kaOYC_Fww/видео.html
