I work in DOT and EPA compliance with vehicle manufacturers. I have actually ordered these lights to test them for an LED conversion for a client. These lights are not DOT compliant. The DOT does not approve anything. It is up to the manufacturer to meet the federal specs. After testing, and this video confirms. The beam is not within the required path or guidelines. The amount of Lumens the beam gives out is not within the guidelines. IF you do install these anyway, you need to readjust your headlight mounts. Motorists that drive lower vehicles such as the tuner and minitruck community as well as people with smaller compact cars get blinded by these types of headlights often due to the beam.
I personally researched and shopped around, compared to all other options these, by far, have a better and well defined cut off. I can promise you the low beams are not blinding anybody (properly adjusted). I’ve never been flashed with these, heck, I’ve been flashes more in my wife’s Honda Pilot (has factory led head lamps). I am not arguing your testing but the real world results speak for themselves. Also on my car the light sits 26” (top) off the ground with the cut off perpendicular to the light, not even a Lambo driver sits that low to be blinded again properly adjusted. Now on the output side. I give it to you they are probably brighter than guidelines if there are any.
These may not meet today’s requirements, but for 1987 the light spread, cutoff, and lumen output far exceeds anything. Consider the safety of the driver and pedestrians. These are nowhere near as bad as some others out there. And at the end of the day, you are talking “DOT compliance” on a channel where most cars don’t have a cat, are double their stock horsepower, and frequently speed. You know, I’m sure some people on here even have sex without condoms. The nerve.
Eric Spurlock my bad, I completely forgot to put the info in the description. These are 8800 Evo2 BLK NH I got them from Amazon but most 18-wheeler shops can get them. I’ll update the description with this info in a few minutes.
They do sell a matching set but I couldnt justify spending another $500 on lights that I rarely use and now that I have these, there has been very few occasions where I felt the need for the high beams.
@@VenomGT87 man those high beams look awesome with that Amber color. I see you said smoke grey vinal but could you please explain how you achieved this look? I want to do this to my Cutlass! Thanks! Nice ride!
No, they are single function, I considered using dual function lights but I am not a fan of the "intake High beam" mod. I should be getting the high-beams in the mail anytime now and I'll install them over winter I'll make a video on those as well.
VenomGT87 if I ever get mine I am going to wire the lights together if they offer a high/low in one unit. I like the look of all 4 on at once. In my girls 69 Chevelle it looks sinister with all four on at once.
Different days with identical weather conditions, I had to film the LED lights earlier than the Halogens because they are so much brighter that the camera was over exposing the video because I locked the settings locked so it wouldn't adjust to the brightness of either set of lights. Its a night and day difference well worth the price tag in my book.
Oh man I want these but they are triple the price in Canada .... Maybe next year when I go to Richard clark I'll find a American friend who will let me ship them to their address ;D

By the way, I know it has DOT stamped on the lens. Does not mean anything.

Nice comparison at the end, thank you!
To each his own
Sweet! We're they plug and play or was there additional wiring required?
Plug and play.
did you ever buy a pair for the high beams? i have some for my low beams but cant get high beam set to work properly
Did you check the polarity on the plugs? Sometimes you need to swap the spades around.
@@VenomGT87 yes when all 4 are plugged in low beams barely glow. And high beam indicator stays on.
I'm going to try a relay harness and see what happens
The indicator on tells me you have a back ground and the lights is back-feeding the circuit
@@VenomGT87 yeah hopefully harness fixes it
Where did you buy them from and how much did they cost they look very good I like to get a set for my GN

$258 a piece, the high beam were about $20 cheaper.
Amazon doesn't list them under 8800 Evo2 BLK NH. ---> www.theretrofitsource.com
Excellent safety addon. The modern looks is a nice plus! Do they also provide matching high beams? That would be sweet.
They do sell a matching set but I couldnt justify spending another $500 on lights that I rarely use and now that I have these, there has been very few occasions where I felt the need for the high beams.
VenomGT87 I noticed your high beams on this video is darkened out, what do you have a cover on it or some kind of tint??
Smoke Gray vinyl so I can remove it if the occasion comes where I need high beam until I purchase the Hi-Beam set from #JWspeaker

jon mcilvain do you mean the rake? The car is sitting on coilovers all around. 3” lower in the front 1.5 inches lower on the rear.
Great video! Does anyone know where to find the plastic nuts that the headlight screw into?
Thanks
If you are talking about those square inserts, you can find those in the hardware area in most auto parts stores
Did you end up going with four across or just two on the outer? Do you think four across might be too bright?
Four across would be good fine, but I wanted a certain look so I ended up using truck-lite high beam LEDs
Sounds good....I don't recall in the video...but would you have to modify anything if you were mounting these on a stock GN? @@VenomGT87
No, plug and play 100%.
When you ordered the lights, did you order them vehicle specific? I have a 79 Cutlass Supreme I'd like to put these on. Your car is clean.
Thank you! The lights are not vehicle specific, just make sure you get 4x6 DOT and not ECT (the european version)
Sweet!
Do these have a high and low built in? Meaning if you had 4 of them can you wire them so that you can have 4 lows or 4 highs on at one time?

Are they pure white or do they have any tint of blue in them?
Pure white, but they look to have a blue tint to on coming traffic...like the newer lights cars are coming out with.
Did you film both on the same day....or different days and time...?
Different days with identical weather conditions, I had to film the LED lights earlier than the Halogens because they are so much brighter that the camera was over exposing the video because I locked the settings locked so it wouldn't adjust to the brightness of either set of lights. Do you drive down i95 thru MD to get to RCG?
What Is the consumption in amperes of each headlight or wattage?
2.25 AMPs and to put it in perspective, so little that with a dead alternator the digital volt meter did not even flicker down a .1 volt lol
Were these plug n play ?
Will Galvan Yes
Nice thx for the replay keep the videos coming
