Similar age to yourself and I remember the desmo singles, if you left the bike ticking over as you put your helmet on it would vibrate itself off up the road without you! Boy could they vibrate!!
It's certainly an experience riding or driving in Italy for the first time. We hired a car in Via Borgognissanti (Europcar office) and picked it up at 8:30, then had to negotiate our way to Pisa in pouring rain. This was in a manual car which I hadn't driven for 20 odd years and my first time driving on the wrong side of the road. We survived and had fun doing it.
What an epic episode. The museum looked fantastic, brilliant to see how Ducati started out as well. Epic roads, epic scenery and no doubt epic coffee at the shop as well 😁

BMW showed the whole manufacturing proces on tv and now on RUclips. Nice bridge, bikes prefered it seems. I wish we had those views in the Netherlands. And those roads. We only have hilly terrain in the south east. For serious curves I have to go to the Eifel or Sauerland in Germany. I have summer clothing from Revvit. Leather + mesh for cooling. It also has removable waterproof lining and insulation. They work wonderfull. In a (blind) left turn, you are dangerously close to the centre of the road. You don't want to hit a oncoming car. The way you groan when coming of the bike 😋. You didn't do that when you were twenty.
I love group touring.... Only had one bad exerience abroad, was going around a roundabout - and we were supposed to be in staggered formation, I was on the left (outside) coming into a roundabout, and was just about to flip over from leaning left to right to exit, when a German rider came into the space I was about to move into..... So much for giving room on roundabouts lol.... I just about managed to lean it further left, and flip over just in time to miss the island :) Oh by the way, those Typerwriters in the Ducati Tour, were in fact Accounting machines - used to add up totals in accounts departments.... Must be an age thing
Nice flashback. Place hasn't changed much. I will add that they started with that Cucciolo bike after the war because people most needed a way to get around. At least that's what they told me. I once went to a factory about that size for work and at one part got to the cell where all the machines were assembled. There were only two country boys putting together every machine that came out of there. Hundreds of people walking around the office areas drinking coffee and just those two putting together everything. And what was worse was they car pooled in together from way out in the country. What a disaster waiting to happen! There were plenty of others in the factory area doing various other things. Maybe they could be cross trained if something happened. I dunno. Anyway, gorgeous riding. I'm jealous!
Great video the Ducati Scrambler looks like a great bike. My heart is set though, on the Triumph Scramber 1200 xc. Looking forward to your review of that bike.
I own this bike. Monsoon season here on the west coast of BC (Canada) so I haven’t taken it out in a few weeks. I just realized how much I miss the sound of my bike. I’ll have to do a trip to the Duc factory. When you going to do a tour of BC?
I prefer the looks of the Triumph but I prefer the Ducati as a practical proposition as a smaller chap - the Big Triumph is just too tall and top heavy for me to easily move around where as the Ducati was neither of those things - really nice bike....
One of the scariest rides I ever had was a trip across Sicily in a taxi, Italians are nuts. Curious about your camera and mi,e setup is it inside you helmet and visor?
Another great vid. Looks fantastic. As mentioned, very tempted in the not too distant future. On a different note, ironic Ducati made their name in electrics & when they started making bikes it was often the electrics that seem to let them down lol. Anyway how would you rate this trip for activities & cost etc compared to any other similar ones you've been on?
Italy is OK but well down on my list, top is France. Most Brits "fail" in France as they think they need to get to the south and plug down miles of autoroutes, missing out on some ace roads and scenery, but thats great for me as it keeps em off my favourite roads. I managed to get a pencil cam with a narrower angle some years back, but gave up on bike cams, it is frustrating as the wide angle does not do justice to the roads, apparently, you can change the field of view on Drift cameras, maybe someone has one and can let us know if it enhances on bike filming, or maybe you can review one if you have not done so already.
I love France too and have covered far more of it than I have Italy (pretty much all of it on aeroplane tours) - not to mention ski trips of course! I do have some Drift cameras but have never got on with them, they look cool but usability and picture quality is not on par with GoPros I have found....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Thanks for that, the image quality of the G Pros is excellent, maybe they will come out with a model with a tighter lens angle at some point.
I'm definitely guilty of blasting through France as quick as possible to get somewhere warm (Spain, Italy). I think mainly because France is so damn big, it's a good couple days to get through it on the motorways and once you jump off the toll roads that time massively jumps so you can easily end up spending 3-4 days there.
Sounds pretty much the same as the Triumph factory in Hinckley. I was expecting sparks and the smell of scarf, but it was more akin to being in a computer factory and as you’ve mentioned, it’s an assembly plant as opposed to a manufacturing one.
...wasn't too much "computer factory" about Ducati I can assure you - some, but I was expecting much more, this was closer to old school than hi tech....
What's that front brake hose all about? When I saw it like that on the first one you rode, I assumed they had done a repair and that was all they had, but it's like that on this one too. Probably done to produce a gentle curve to absorb fork movement, but you'd think they could have found a better route? :-(
