I regret it .
I enjoyed too much
I definitely enjoyed this video! Thank you! I wanted to find something to show my mom to get her to watch it, it was such an amazing love story, and she just doesn't like scary things and avoids Black Mirror. This was exactly what I was looking for.
All Hail Unicron!
Awesome Video 😍
This single episode is so powerful that sometimes I forgot I was watching a serie, it seemed like a whole movie.
Daniel Araújo with its running time its the same as a movie
a movie of dogshit.
Every episode of Black Mirror feels like its own movie - some more than others
Especially like the Hunger Games inspired episode.
Daniel Araújo right? i've always seen it as more of a short film rather than an episode of black mirror
Probably the happiest ending of an episode.. and everyone is dead
Is It a happy ending tho?
It is the very happy ending!, after all, what it's on the mind is more important than the body.(according to this episode, of course and some context in life..)
@@jefgir1097 I have the same thought, while it seems like a happy ending, Kelly "gave up" her daughter and her husband to be with Yorkie and i think that fact will always throw a shadow over their (after)lives. So only halfway happy ending...
@@KingBloodwork Kelly doesn't seem to believe in an afterlife, she mentions it when she's upset with Yorkie and talking about her husband's choice not to go to San Junipero because of their daughter's death "And I wish I could believe he's with her now, that they're together, but I don't. I believe they're nowhere. Just like you said." So I don't see it as her choosing to give them up.
@@gaycryptidhours Good point! That kind of makes the whole ending much happier:D
That Emmy was totally deserved

@@darkthought7860 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_awards_and_nominations_received_by_Black_Mirror
They've won two Emmys for this episode.
This the only episode that deserves one
When the nerd at the computers said "the game has two different endings, depending if you play it with two players or alone" he really was right
Yeah! That was a cool foreshadow symbolism hint :)
I like watching Black Mirror episodes a second time and seeing hidden details...in the beginning, a guy at the bar Kelly is talking to is talking about his kneecap surgeries, which hint to him being an old man
The irony that black mirror gave a lesbian couple the best ending I've ever seen for lesbians in media.
was it a good ending tho?
it's not just about lesbians, it's about all people and their choices. Some choose to live driven by their lust (Quagmire place) or live in their past like Keely's husband (and I understand him). But some choose to go on and leave behind their past to open the world of love and happiness.
One of them isn't a lesbian.
I mean, this was the most eery and depressing episode for me. Js.
Even more ironic is that it ended with both of them technically dying
I won't stop to state my point, San Junipero deserves more than the small screen, it's a contemporary art masterpiece and one of the most breathtaking stories ever told behind a camera.
Holy shit, I'd kill for a movie adaptation. It's essentially already finished and close to the run length. DO IT CHARLIE BROOKER
It needs to be made big screen if for no other reason than for more people to be exposed to this. Even if it's exactly the same footage or padded a tiny bit.
Because it's beautiful and moving af and proposes intriguing concepts in tech? Show me a love story set in VR where the leads never die. Besides, I dig lesbians.
***** Agreed. The fact that it's two women is, for me (straight dude) the tiniest part of this story. It would have easily been as powerful if the leads were a straight or a male couple.
i feel the same way, i honestly want a hard copy bluray for my collection to watch it whenever i want. i hate the fact that no one will listen to me and watch the tv shows i reccomend... i really need to talk to sme one about this episode.
I’m a straight guy and this is without a doubt the most beautiful love story I’ve ever seen on screen.
I agree, wild wild. legit made me appreciate life 300 more%
Guys have you seen Carol? Brokeback?
Same here. I balled my eyes out at the ending. So beautiful
As the French would say, "sortir les mouchoirs!" (Get out the handkerchiefs!)
Pointing out that you're straight is not relevante tho
When the credits appeared I was gutted. I didn't want it to ever end
Same omg
I keep wondering what was so awesome about this episode (aside from a _rare_ happy ending). It's the chemistry between the 2 actresses. It's believable and oh so adorable. I actually cried when Kelly proposed to Yorkie, super aww moment that I never expect from _Black Mirror_ and tbh I thought "great, Brooker's going to ruin my happiness for them before this ends". The chemistry between socially awkward & a free spirit almost always works.
I also cried at the end. And altough I'm not part of any PC culture or SJW bullshit, I believe this episode wouldnt have been this good with a hetero couple
Ryan Swanson did you watch the end credits? I also thought 'yay, happy ending'. When I saw the massive data banks of dead people's consciences, a shiver went down my spine. I'm not sure it's really meant to be a happy ending.
Yes, exactly I think it's a bittersweet ending, it's more complex, Black Mirror it's not a series in which situations are presented as black and white so...
*@Marcus Woolley*
Charlie Brooker has specifically said in an interview with _Vogue_ that San Junipero is meant as "the happiest ending imaginable". When asked about the sort of sad twist theory by Reddit that Kelly and Yorkie don't really end up together he said "that's bullshit!".
@Ryan Swanson Thank you! I'm really tired of people insisting that it's actually a negative story, especially since Charlie Brooker has denied it multiple times now. It's so rare that a relationship between women is given a happy ending in TV or film, so can everyone just let us have this one? Haha
almost cried watching the episode...bliss..brilliance...80's
yes, but the issue is that it is not a real world, it's just a bundle of generic ideas for a certain era, pushed together to create a dreamlike sequence. still, it was cool :D might even say that the slopiness in details adds to the mood
ok then, fine by me :D
I still think it was ok
Sorry for not keeping up with your very necessary and scientific debate.

Uno de las mejores historias de Black Mirror y uno de los que más me encantan no soy de esos años, viendo este episodio siento que he vivido en los años 80 😱
Best episode of any show I have seen to date. Masterpiece!
The way this songs comes in at the end and influences everybody into thinking it’s a happy story is genius.
It's a happy ending. They get to live in paradise.
@@jeromealday614 Not entirely, depends on who wins the coin flip. Either you were the human that dies and loses, or you win the flip and you're the copy that gets to live forever as long as they want
@@mr.realistic1014 well if you think about it, you're really free to choose your fate, and for me, i'd choose san junipero instead because an afterlife after death may or may not be real.

This was hands down my favorite episode of Black Mirror to date. It's book/movie material. I LOVE the concept & the story. I love that them being lesbians wasn't the focus. They were just two women in love! I hope they're open to making more episodes like this. I loved that it was a love story with a happy ending but still had that mysterious, Black Mirror vibe! 💜💜💜
Yeah!! They weren't just lesbians!!
The only episode where I didn't feel major depression after it's over.
I thought the Bryce Dallas Howard episode (Nosedive) was pretty liberating. Not depressing like most other episodes. But yeah, San Junipero is special.

Hang the DJ?
@@fernandoelizarraras2186 Hang the DJ and this one are my fave episodes, and the only ones with happy endings
Although your comment is quite old, I felt different about this episode. While the end is happy in some point of view, you gotta remember that Yorkie had a really shitty life: Yorkie was paralysed at age 21 after crashing her car when her parents reacted poorly to her coming out (1:1 quote from Wikipedia since my English sucks) - so, as she wanted things to become better by running away (as far as I know it was an accident, not intentional?) it only got worse for her. Now, at the end of her mortal life, she is getting the option to finally live her dream. That's the nice part of it, but it's so freaking sad at the same time because her stupid parents could have just reacted differently and her life might have been better.
Whoever chose the OST for this episode is a fucking genius...it just epitomized the episode so beautifully. I am amazed. The lyrics themselves are so powerful and falls perfectly in sync with the whole thing. These two people found their heaven after they died and that heaven is a place on earth where their love finally could exist. It's stunningly thought-provoking as well as heart-warming. Best episode of Black Mirror hands down.

Their attempt at recreating the 80s feels like a cheap ersatz facsimile of the 80s . All the actors were one-dimensional caricatures of people in the 80s who lacked the natural insouciance, naivety, and natural coolness of people in the 80s.

One of the most heartbreakingly beautiful hours of television I've ever seen.
I wouldn't have done just an episode with this story... it could've been something even better, like a movie.
It's strange that many people complained that this episode took too long to get going. I totally disagree, I would've added more time to really capture the time's slightest details. It would've made a perfect 100 minute film. =)
It was deliberate - you needed that time to believe in the romance and to relate to the characters, prior to seeing the "real" them.
One thing to remember is that many people watching this series are millennials. After all, it's pretty much The Twilight Zone for the new generation.
Having said that, the time period scenes were mainly for those of us who are *not* millennials. I personally LOVED the progression, because it reminded me of my 80's childhood. Millennials complained about the pacing because they can't appreciate the time periods because they weren't born yet or had only recently been born.
It is meant to be that... the timing is perfect
Caín Ames Pryor you do know younger people can appreciate and understand times before our own? I was born in 2000 and I’m completely in love with the 80s 70s and 60s I watch movies and listen to music from those eras all the time and most of my friends who are all younger can understand references to those time periods
This is perfect, my heart exploded for this episode. I watched this in Maui, Hawaii last week with my boyfriend who proposed to me and is now my fiance💍😄💐 This song, this episode, Kelly and Yorkie will always hold a special place in my marriage!
Congratulations on your engagement!!! ✨

Loneliness is a choice.
@@jeromealday614 No. I was lonely for 28 years, do you think any person would chose that? That's insane. I don't believe in free will but I believe in abuse, bullying, anxieties and depression that stops anyone from being social. You must have had it good if no mental trauma stopped you from doing what you wanted.
@@piip4 I assume you read my other comment. To clear it up, I didn't have it smooth. I am still in closet. Loneliness is a choice because as my brother beat me up. He gave me a choice. Either stay in the closet or leave my family behind. I was 14 years old when that happen.
I am so sorry you have to live a lonely life for 28 years. I also believed on the anxiety, bullying and depression because I living through it myself.
@@jeromealday614 Oh, I didn't notice that was also you with the other comment! What a coincidence. Well I've left my family behind long ago and so should you. There's not enough time in life to spend it around people who don't accept you. fuck family. The transition is lonely but at the other end you'll only regret you didn't do it sooner.
@@jeromealday614 My best friend is gay and he's the coolest and nicest guy I know. His biggest regret was not coming out sooner, he was scared of the reactions of his family and friends. He was moved to tears when it turned out nobody really cared and he made it seem so dramatic in his head. He beat himself up for keeping it a secret so long for seemingly no reason. Your experience may differ, but your brother is an asshole. A real brother would be there for you help you come out by standing by you. You can find friends in this world who are much better family than your biological family. You are alone with or without them, think about that.

Black Mirror, the show where a happy ending is a massive, shocking, controversial plot twist. :P
I have this theory that everyone gets what they deserve in Black Mirror. Rotten characters get bleak endings, albeit in a hyperbolic manner, and that's what we mostly see. Skillane in White Bear, the two guys in White Christmas, the guy Jesse Plemons plays in USS Callister all those people in Hated in the Nation, etc. Save for maybe the woman in Metalhead (whose death had to signify the hopelessness of a war with advanced technological warfare) and Abi in Fifteen Million (who really was used to show the injustice of their society), everyone who gets a bleak ending had a massive hamartia.
The real distinction in SJ is that we have two characters who are mostly, if not completely, morally pure. Never did anything to harm someone else, and never pursued selfish interests over others. That was what was shocking to see in this episode. That's why they get a happy ending. It wouldn't have felt right otherwise.
The Someawesome Interesting theory, but it actually makes sense. The same thing happens in Hang the DJ because the couple in that never really did anything wrong. Black museum is the same too because the guy that run the museum got a nasty ending and the black man in the prison illustrates the racial injustice in society. Even the guy in the national anthem got an okay ending
San Junipero saved 2016

@@fascissynihil8368 We perceived reality in our own terms. Sometimes the probability of happiness is beyond the variables we can't reach, can't control. for me it was the music ,the actresses ,the photography ,the colors the atmosphere in general.
there are a lot of clues that it gives to you to understand all, like when yorkie remains shocked when the car in the videogame crashes.
it's constructed very well to make you wonder:"how the fuck is this related to technology?" until it drops the "bomb"

I never used to like this song, however after watching this episode I get a serious dopamine hit as I am reminded of the emotional rollercoaster I witnessed. The song feels far more literal now too as the cloud thingy (I can't remember what its called apologies) their consciousnesses were uploaded to is seen as a certain alternative to the questionable existence of an afterlife, hence a heaven on Earth.

Alright, alright, I'll rewatch it....AGAIN.
Rewatch number 8 here I come!
YOU GOTTA BUMP UP THOSE NUMBERS
THOSE ARE ROOKIE NUMBERS
I think the ending is not so "happy" as most of people say.
They are trapped in a endless loop in where they can't not evolve because everything that happens is not random or new events with the time passing. Thats why Quagmire exists, because with time you need more and more; you end bored in the same way you stop playing a videogame after a while.
Yorkie (she has a name of a pet by the way) is like a teen. She is stunned with that place because she has never had those experiencies, going to pubs, dance, being in love of a woman, etc and Kelly only wants fun before she dies until she has a second chance; BUT the big question is for how long. Thats the great irony of the episode we have only seen the happy ending of a fairytale but not the events after that.
JPin if you watched the whole episode, there's a small part in there where you can disconnect yourself from the system, and move on naturally. To better explain, there's a failsafe in San Junipero. If the person gets tired of living in the program, they activate the failsafe and it disconnects their consciousness permanently from the system. And they will fade away to whatever's out there after death...
JPin - I especially liked your video game comparison because soon we'll have virtual reality games everywhere and even though these games will be captivating, they'll become tiresome at some point.
I didn't feel happy either. It's a cute story and satisfying that Yorkie and Kelly are seen as happy as the show winds down but that doesn't end the existential questions.
this episode made me cry so hard :'(
I don't typically like romance stories, and I'm a pretty hard person to make cry, but this episode had me blowing snot for an hour. It's also the first episode of the series I'd ever seen. So it kind of ruined the rest of the series by being too good.
The beginning of that video gives me chills
Best episode of the whole series so far!!!!!
I've liked this song for nearly 30 years. And only now does it hit me in the feels.
This episode actually helped me get over a break up. I was really down about it, then I saw this and was like “Man, fuck that!” I WILL have an amazing love story like this one day because I deserve it.” This ep just gave me so much more hope in love. I’m just a Yorkie looking for my Kelly.
And omfg, I now have the biggest crush on Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Fell in love with her after seeing this! #GuguIsTheWife 😍😍😍
San Junipero is a true masterpiece and one of the most breathtaking stories ever told behind a camera .
I don't think I've ever watched anything that's had such impact on me before, and probabilly is and will be the best episode ever in the history of netflix and life.
This episode changed my life, seriously. Beautiful tribute!
I kind of that this song was lame before. Now that I watched this episode I cant quit listening to it.
Meghan Dyer That's the magic of a good story accompanied by good music.
What does it matter to you what kind of sex lesbian are having? The whole point of lesbian is men aren't involved!
Christian Goett did your wife leave you for a woman or smth? the bitterness is astounding 💀
Na... Just pointing out the obvious. Not sure why you think that sounds bitter. You must be some sort of white knight or something.
Christian Goett you seem bitter, alright. Lesbians dont make the world a miserable place, negative people like you do.
BEST EPISODE SO FAR
The only Black mirror episode with a happy-ish ending.
