“Wrinkle in Time”. Mixing Pearls with Bloom paints, see what happens!

- Fluid art inspirational video! I’m so glad I revisited this idea! About six months ago I had done something very similar. I’m using all my typical Pearl recipes, the gray and white were more of a semi transparent basecoat. The cool thing is taking bloom paint How long was golden high flow and swiping it on top. I mix by Bloom paints with satin enamel paint so that contributes to the effect. I linked some videos below that go more in depth on both my pearl technique and how I mix the bloom paint.
I’m teaching at the Fluid Art Experience April 27-29, 2023! This is a one time opportunity for me because I can drive to this event and am able to bring personal items from my studio. I’m over the top excited and can’t wait to see you all there!

Beautiful piece. I am not sure I see the effects of the bloom paints...but that doesn't matter. I was happy each time I watched you add the "magenta-like" color. That pop of contrasting color brought this piece to life...for me anyway. Good wishes for you in 2023!

This is something I will be working towards, translating to different materials that are in different countries. I actually asked some people that live in different areas to send me some pictures of the paint shelves in the products that they offer. There is a plant called Delux that I know works really, in particular, the diamond series an eggshell. It creates pearls like crazy!
@@SaraTaylor Thank you for that info Sara, Dulux is easily available here. I did managed to get a satin neutral base by Valspar in B&Q, a big DIY chain here. I can get hold of Deco Art Satin enamels easily though they aren’t cheap, £10 a pot and I have used them with a different white within a Dutch pour as an experiment and gotten crazy cells, but I do all also get cells that way with just paint and water with Amsterdam paints. Rinska Douna creates amazing work with just paint and water. I use mainly Amsterdam and Pebeo studio paints which are reasonably priced here, plus Arteza and also the Australian paint Monte Marte, which is sold in large bottles on Amazon, but works out very reasonably priced per litre. Owatrol is our version of Floetrol and I use that, which is around £20 for 1 litre (2.2 pints) the same price as Liquitex pouring medium, still expensive compared to your Floetrol. I can’t use PVA as a medium as it triggers my asthma. Whatever ingredients you use here though, fluid art is a pretty pricey painting style. Oh I have used silicone, but I don’t like the cells it produces, but that’s a personal thing. Apologies if I have repeated myself, from any previous replies.

Nice Sara! You really worked to get some beautiful effects, and as always your eye for composition is impeccable. The dried result were even better. You must have a really good camera to show how well the gold iridescence looks on canvas. You know, your technique is so unique even with pouring paint. I was actually bit surprised, but yes, the bloom paint melted right in and drive completely flat.

@@SaraTaylor From the books by Madeleine L'Engle, The Time Quintet. The first one is titled A Wrinkle In Time. In time a tesseract is the fifth dimension. In geometry it is a shape. In your painting I think it is a feeling♥

I love the indigo over the grey. What’s the thought behind the bloom paint? So it doesn’t pearl/create cells?
Exactly right, completely stops effect from happening, so it gives you these beautiful blocks of color.
Love this! I’d like your opinion about something, when I used to paint with the high flow/ bloom recipe in TN I got lots of cells/pearls. Since I have moved to Mt Shasta I have been unsuccessful and very frustrated! Do you think the altitude makes a difference?? I was at 1000 ft in TN, here we are 3600 ft….I would love your opinion ! Thank you. Quala
The more I learn about this medium I’m realizing that altitude and climate does make a big difference. I think for a lot of people you just have to experiment until you get results that you want and not all recipes behave exactly the same way in different parts of the country or world. I know that may be is a discouraging answer, however, if you continue your curiosity and experimentation, you will find what works!
Hello Sara, it‘s beautiful work. In which colour are cell activator?
I used a little bit of white and black cell activator here, but it was mostly the pearl effect.
Do you ever use a brush to ‘paint’? Looks more like collage. How long do u spend on a piece? !Very trendy
It depends, some paintings take a few hours, some take days. I do you use brushes quite often after the painting is dry.

It’s an effect achieved by using a very thin basecoat with satin enamel in it. I have a really great paint Mixing video that might help answer some questions.

Thank you so much for the nice comment, it is a water-based satin enamel house paint. 7300 is completely on tinted so there’s no white pigment.
