Great video..I have some of those outdated boots..Thinking of sustainability, I wish you could show ways of wearing them that would make them look less dated so that I could get some more wear out of them rather than discarding them..x
I think, it’s not that they are dated but that it’s not her style preference. As an example Melissa does not like black boots. She likes light colours. The black boots would be fine with leggings or a different hem or different colour clothing. The ‘workman’ boots she didn’t consider feminine. That’s a style preference. Most chunky shoes would not be ‘feminine’ but some stylists like mixing masculine/structured and feminine pieces. Some people love the shine of patent/ polished shoes and the ‘interest’ that provides and you don’t get that with the knitted shoes.
Wear them in the way that makes you feel best. To hell with the rest. No need to be concerned with trends or what others think of your clothes as long as you are happy.
Dear Melissa, it would be very nice if you make a video to style the boots that you say are dated but that most of us may have... In my case, last year I have invested in good leather boots and want/need to use them until they tear apart... Could you give us some tips to look stylish with this kind of shoes? On the other hand, I find this video very convenient for new purchases and appreciate very much your explainations. xoxoxo
I don't disagree with any of your boot opinions, but I also think that a few seasons from now, the "outdated" ones will be back in style again. instead of keeping up with what's "in style" I'd rather have classic looks that always look good.
I prefer investment dressing & get so annoyed when a couple seasons later they're "outdated" due to some minor changes in detail. No sense in holding on to them. When the style comes back a few yrs later, there's always a change of detail to keep it dated anyway. errr .
Very often, dated vs not dated seems to depend on whatever is on trend now. But chasing trends is not a good thing. At least in my opinion. (Like that dated boot was trendy a few years back; everyone wore it and saw no problem with it. And suddenly, it's dated!) On a side note, I keep seeing this phenomenon lately, where all fashion influencers HAVE to mention how eco-friendly and sustainable the new brand (they are talking about) is. I'm sorry, but it's pure virtue signaling. And honestly, how much eco-friendly can factories in China be? China doesn't care about that thing at all. What I found out is that if the brand is based in China, usually they lie about eco-friendliness to endear themselves to the westerners. And if it's a western brand with factories in China... they chose China for their factories (and not west) for a reason. (Most common are: cheap labor, less regulation for eco-friendliness, etc. So how much can we actually trust them about these claims???)
If we talk about brands there’s certain words regarding their brand that we have to mention but our opinions can’t be influenced and for me, I get sent hundreds of items a week and rarely show any of them as part of a brand partnership unless I truly wear them and use them on my clients.
Fantastic Melissa! I sometimes watch my favourite you tubers while doing chores but not yours ! I don’t want to miss any tricks. Really appreciate how much time and thought you put into your videos. Keep them coming 👍
Thank you, I really appreciate that. Sometimes the ‘less than nice’ comments make me want to stop doing the channel, especially because we’re so busy with the main business but it’s lovely comments like yours that keeps me going so thank you 😘
You have a gift to teach and explain; I’ve learned so much from you. I don’t always agree with the selections for my personal body type and/or life style but the principles you teach always come across in a way that is understandable and tactfully expressed. Thank you for sharing your insights.
I can’t help but wonder how young women with a mortgage at a high percentage, also paying for childcare, high grocery prices, high gas prices, can afford to be buying all these clothes and boots! I’m glad that I’m retired and have my house paid for and money in the bank.
These are always the videos of yours I watch on repeat. Picking the right shoe! It’s like you can tell something doesn’t look right, but you’re not sure how to fix it! Thank you!
Thank you so much for all the work you put into your channel! I've been following your advice, slowly buying white and neutral base tops of different thicknesses and formality, and finally, finally I no longer feel I have "nothing to wear"! This video was also super helpful as usual! I often feel my outfits are ruined as soon as I put shoes on. Finally donated some dated black boots I've been hanging on to but haven't been inspired to wear for 3+ years. But I'll be hanging onto my chelsea boots because I think those will come back eventually. Love the cream boots, will think about how those might fit into my wardrobe.
That’s great to hear. Chelsea boots are going to make a come back, just be careful that the foot. Shape is right for your frame. Hope you’re enjoying your new style x
I've been struggling a little with loving the chunky Chelsea boot vs wanting a more feminine look. My daughter tells me to just wear them and stop thinking about it, but she's not 67! In the end, my rule is I wear what I want and what I love but carefully consider the guidance I get from Melissa for which way tips the scale for my personal style.
I think it depends what your overall build and style is. I simply don't suit chunky footware, I look like a clown in them; but I've seen quite a few older women with edgier style looking great in them.
I keep all my good leather footwear forever, if comfortable and walkable. I think I do the opposite of what you recommend here, I avoid trends so that they don’t look dated so soon. I mostly choose the most classic and timeless styles I can for most of them. My leather footwear and bags, along with wool coats and blazers, are the most expensive items in my wardrobe, so I tend to keep them the longest and wear them the most. My Dior wool coat, for example, has had 40 years of daily winter wear, with a rugged commute, and still looks brand-new, so it was worth the high price. My Stewart Weitzman thigh-high suede boots might not be trending at the moment, but not only do I still wear them a lot, I buy new colors when they come out (I wear mini-skirts a lot, autumn and winter, too). I think of all the women who really regretted decluttering their knee-high leather boots when it was “ankle boots only”. I didn’t, I knew they would be back, they’re classic. I do indulge in more trendy styles in less-expensive sandals and sneakers, it’s hard to resist some of them and they can really make a classic outfit look current. I have to reduce my spending on footwear, though, I have so many pairs of shoes and boots already! I think this autumn - burgundy ones only, I already have a full selection of khaki green and brown footwear.🙂
Always love your style tips but this was so on time. I’m moving and many of my shoes are still in great shape but the style of similar classic shoes have definitely changed and I love it. I want to stay current and fashionable even if I am 70yrs old.
Love your videos, however I didn’t agree with some of the selections. Very pointy shoes are in style now but they also go out of style quickly. The round almond toe wasn’t mentioned but thanks to the CHANEL ballet flats NEVER go out of style. It was obvious the Vivia shoe has an affiliation but they will too go out of style and the boots material looked cheap. My option. I do follow you n think you have great content.
As I mentioned in the video, almond toe and ballet flats are very in fashion but because I’m short they don’t suit me personally. It’s ok not to agree as fashion is so personal and these are just our opinions right now, they might change next year and that’s ok too!
I appreciate and agree with your style tips. Unfortunately, in order for the fashion industry to thrive, styles must keep changing. Classic is always classy.
I found this video so interesting! Especially the visual of the stylish vs less stylish , it makes it easier to understand why some things work and others don't. Like sometimes an outfit just doesn't look right but I'm not sure why & it may just need a different shoe! Will experiment with this one, tho I do have some of the less stylish boots, hopefully can make them work with some outfits. Especially my Chelsea boots, I do love them.
Wow, what differences the shoes made!! Thanks for showing us real examples of outdated looks vs. modern, non-frumpy looks. I have so many shoes to get rid of that I’ve had for years!!!!! 😅😮❤
Ankle boot doesn't suit for a dress of that length as it cuts you off and make you appear shorter. Knee high boot would make you look taller as it covers up the skin.
If you are lacking in knee boots in all the colors you need, if you match tights to your boots, you can get by with wearing ankle boots with dresses. It isn't ideal, but it is hard to always have the exact boots you need.
I agree in principal but there's long boots that sometimes look dated and not suitable for the younger audience so to have a shorter option and to layer with a coat (as i've said) completes the outfit.
@@mmpersonalstylingso true about the younger audience thinking the taller boot is not in style even if was light colored. They would probably wear that chunky light boot though, not the slender one, (to balance the feminine vibe of the dress).
@@mmpersonalstyling could you do some affordable fashion, plz. Or how a piece can be worn or paired in different ways? Most of the clothing you show are way too expensive.
Yes, I am not a fan of a short boot of any kind with a dress either the possible exception of a nude or tan one that matches your skin color or a black sock boot with opaque black tights.
Melissa! You have helped me so much. I've just found your videos one week ago and they are just so helpful and practical. I was faced with indecision of what to keep and what to donate ....you've just provided the answer- My closet and I thank you.
And that's absolutely fine if you like them, are confident and comfortable then don't change them for anyone! This is just our opinion but it's called Personal style for a reason. xx
The elegant, stretchy Vivaia boots definitely looks more feminine, but OH I love leather boots 😉 I love those cream combat style boot you wore with pants and the cream long boots are gorgeous. I realise now how pointy shoes are actually more flattering. That was very informative thanks!
I usually LOVE your videos, but this one just seems like an ad for viviaia!! I bought a pair of them some months ago (based on your recommendation) and I’ve yet to wear them….too tight! Also they’re expensive!!
@@mmpersonalstyling I’ll keep watching!!! I’ve been following you for ages and you’re usually very informative. I’ve recommended you to people…..and it did state that it included paid promotions! ❤️
I love vivaia. I got their pointy toe and square Flats this summer and I knew I had to get their boots for autumn /winter as well. Got them and fell in love again. Can't describe how comfy they are.
I love all of your videos!! With winter footwear it's more difficult for me to wear nice fashionable outerwear since i live in 'the great white north'. We often have minus 20 to 30c with blowing snow and ice so just staying upright is an effort. 🇨🇦 Last year i bought boots with retractable spikes on the bottom so i can walk my dog or walk a couple of blocks to the grocery store 🙈 , so sometimes outer footwear fashion is a secondary consideration😪. Thanks so much for this video it's very helpful and I'll be using this information for our 'good days' and any winter vacations. 🇨🇦 🤞 😃 Keep the videos coming please! I and many others find them so invaluable. I always recommended your channel, you're simply the best!
Just got my first pair of Vivaia flats and absolutely love them! I’ve been eyeing a pair of their wedge ankle boots. Would love to see them on your heavier models as my calves are quite wide and I’m concerned the taller boots in particular would be uncomfortably tight. Love your channel! Watching from the US..
While I can see your point, I have some very expensive ‘dated’ boots which have been in fashion for years and now are apparently not. I can’t afford to buy new ones - which actually I believe will date quite quickly, so I have to wear them in the best way I can. Also I live in the countryside and white trainers in winter are a waste of time as they get dirty so quickly. I will just have to wear my boots the best way I can as I can’t be on trend when I can’t afford it.
This video was very helpful and informative and if i were looking for new boots, i would consider these. Where i differ is when influencers declare perfectly nice boots "dated" and slap "x's" over them. Most of the dated boots are classic and while they may not look the best with skirts and dresses they would still look nice with jeans. I And yes, i know i dont have to watch these types of videos, but there are so many that they are hard to avoid.
You are right that some of the boots would look 'ok' with jeans but surely you're not watching programs from stylists just for 'ok' solutions? Videos are never hard to avoid, you just don't press play....
@@mmpersonalstyling I never said "ok", I said nice. Surely you realize the irony of pushing sustainable products while at the same time implying items they have in their wardrobe that are usable and still look good are "dated"? Who said they are dated? Undoubtedly companies looking to enhance their own bottom line by preying on people's insecurities about how they look. You put content out there for people to comment on. If you don't like my thoughts just don't read them and hit "reply"
Hi Melissa I watch so many clothing videos but not too many shoes or boots videos. I definitely need to update . I do have a horrible time because standing doing hair so long has been hard on my feet. I think either I am mixed up or others are. I just bought a pair of DV black Chelsea boots for casual wear... I think you were saying in the two you were showing that those were neither chunky nor is it feminine. I got that the Chelsea boots you showed on the side were chunky but fashionable. I hope I am right . I do like mine. I think others think you meant they are outdated now. I definitely can be wrong thinking they are ok. I do love the one you showed. I have never had a pointy shoe that was comfy, but I think companies are trying to help us ladies with feet problems. Thanks Melissa great video as usual. ❤❤❤❤😊
@@ritastutler1470 How about a chic pair of black sneakers with good support and cushioning? Hairstylists where I live wear only black, because of the hair dyes, and these comfy black sneakers. When you leave work, you could switch to a pair of leather shoes or boots. I struggled with foot, leg and back pain all through my career, too, and it was only an office job. Your job is very demanding, don’t sacrifice your health and comfort, friend🙂
I know that you are correct in everything here but it always takes me a while to move on to something different. Shorter black boots with the dress make me feel like I’m wearing shoes and ankle socks (yes I know I’m odd). I think it looks great on you but I can’t seem to make it look good on me. Maybe in a few months I will have changed my mind. Old habits die hard. By the way I have bought several outfits from your suggestions and always get lots of compliments.
Not a fan of the vivaia shoes. I need ancle support and I sincerely doubt the knit shoes will keep my foot dry in the winter months. I prefer a more timeless look like the beige shoes you showed towards the end 😊
Yes, once it snows, the knit boots are probably not the best to wear. Probably a better option for fall, early spring and if the pavement is dry. I find it a challenge when it is really snowy out.
Great tips, though i think those particular samba trainers that EVERYONE is wearing are going to be seen as dated too very soon! Bit like the recent NB "it" trainers with wonky octopus tentacls at the back are now !😂
I notice the long boots you showed had a lot of fluff stuck to them- I love the look of the vivaia boots but I have a white fluffy cat and can see these boots getting scruffy fast with fluff and hair. I think leather Chelsea boots are more classic and easier to maintain (are the vivaia fully water and weatherproof?) I also bought the chunky cream boots from marks after seeing them in your last video. Only thing to flag is size up - I’m a 6 but could only fit in the 8 due to being tight on the ankle and calf
How funny, I’m a size 4.5 and sizes down to a 4 in those boots!!! Yes, fluff would stick to them. Please look at the Viviai website to find out about the technical specifications of the shoes
Hi Tuba, another great conversation, some food for thought for me. Love your channel for how you make me think and see new things. About the Arcteryx logo, it’s the fossil of an archaeopteryx, which is thought to be the link between dinosaurs and birds. Definitely a cool logo, i have to admit 😂
I'm loving your videos by the way. I just wanted to say that I struggle with finding a very wide fitting shoe or boot. Boots especially. All of my shoes have to be a wide fitting and I can't wear shoes that don't support my feet. I only choose shoe companies that have the wider fitting shoes and boots, such as Ara and Gabor and I think my choices are okay. I do try to keep on trend every season but I do have my absolute favourites which I love to wear.
Greetings from Spain! I've just started watching your channel a few weeks ago and I'm impressed with your style and the practicality of your advice. I aim to emulate Melissa Murrell's British style in my quasi-capsule autumnal and winter wardrobe❤ This footwear video is timely because I had been contemplating buying a new pair of boots and you have completely changed my mind about what I want and need! I was going for the middle ground option, but now I'm changing my mind and I'm leaning towards a chunkier pair.
I would love to see the video about tights during cold weather. For example, wearing light knitting dress and ankle boots. Is it appropriate to wear nude colour tights or does it look strange during winter? X
M . . . enjoying your videos. I live in the USA (Chicago). I purchased two (2) pair of loafers: tan and animal print. I have two questions: considering my skin tone (African American), is tan an appropriate color or more of a skin tone? Also, it's a bit chilly now and there are days I can still wear loafers with socks. What about trouser socks? Tan shoes with black socks is definitely a no no. HELP!
Yes you can wear tan or nude shoes (the latter just acts like a lighter toned shoe against your skin colour), I love a white shoe on a darker skin colour too and I’m sure tan would look equally as good. Generally speaking with a tan loafer I wouldn’t wear socks (unless you couldn’t see them) but I would wear black sock with black loafers. So if the weather meant you needed socks then I’d wear a trainer or boots instead x
I have a closet full of round toe flats and am 5'3". Is there anything I can wear them with? I also have a lot of leather booties that I mostly wear with longer trousers or jeans in a similar tone but not usually with skirts. Is this still dated? Also, what do you think about darker colored trainers with darker colored jeans and yoga pants?
You can wear your round toed flats, they’re very fashionable right now IF you like the look of them on your frame. For me personally they don’t flatter my frame but I love them on others. No, I wouldn’t wear dark trainers with dark jeans. X
I am confused. The sock boots look great but everything I have seen is you should not wear them with your leg showing between the top of boot and bottom of dress. Very helpful otherwise in helping me understand the chunky boot being out of style.
It depends if you like the look and what else you’re wearing with it - personally I love the look as it’s more youthful and sometimes that’s enough for me to wear it. X
I’ve got the viv boots with the chunky funky heel because I feel really wobbly in a kitten heel. Mine are in tan because cream is so impractical and these are only wipe clean not washable. I have the loafers in denim blue and love them and find the colour really versatile. So comfortable. I agree those shoes are expensive and feel sad they are made in china, although I understand why.
Thank you very much! This video was so very helpful! It is very easy to hold on to items that easily date an outfit. Time to analyze the fall and winter shoes. Thanks again!
I liked the vivaia pointed toe boots with kitten heel that you showed. Do you think they would go out of style soon (maybe the heel?) or they would last many years to come? I would like to invest in a decent pair of boots to go with dresses but obviously don’t want to keep buying new ones every year or so. ❤
Sigh …shoes are a nightmare! Pointed toes are so bad for my feet , ballet flats would fall off and be impossible to walk in, heels a total nightmare, ankle boots with dresses don’t appeal …what to do🥲 I have found a derby style shoe apart from white sneakers. It’s approaching summer here so sling backs might work. Vivaia is expensive in Australia and I already know what the podiatrist thinks about them😂. Nevertheless as always very informative thank you!
I have a dismal “keep rate” with footwear, only about a third to a half of what I buy turn out to be comfortable enough. I choose extremely carefully (genuine leather only), break them in, soften the leather with oil, etc., but the real test comes with the first outing. So many are complete flops, they’l, hurt in some way I couldn’t feel around the house! This year, though, has been the best of my 64 years for footwear, heels are lower and non-pointed toe styles have been widely available. So, I bought a lot. Now that designers are pushing pointed-toe, high spike heels again, I won’t be buying.🙂
Hello . May i please ask something: just invested in 3 pairs of Dr Martin boots, light leather, cream and brown and the " classic " black and red roses boots . Plan to use them all year around. Would you consider a video with this style ? Of corse for over 30,40 year😂 audience ?
Probably not in all honesty, it’s not something we’d see appealing to the wider audience but we’d be more than happy to style you on a 1:1 basis, details can be found at www.mmpersonalstyling.co.uk
Thank you , i already saw your availability for a 1 to 1 session, some busy ladys you are 😂, Melissa, your next availability was if i am.not wrong in october 😮. But i will book a session with a team member for May 🙌
The ankle boots with midi and length dresses is really a question of taste, the ankle boot, even the sock boot, is just not flattering on many… and problem with Vivaia, I have both their boots and shoes, is that they are not leather, and after a wash or two, the water repellent is not really great. So for good weather they are fine, but when it’s cold, they are not great…
I live in Canada, and the weather here is very cold in winter. There is no way I could wear those fabric shoes here. All my shoes are leather(old-fashioned), but I would love to learn how to style them. All the shoes you said not to wear I have. Please make one more video.
Not a fan of ankle boots with midi dresses where you see bare skin, I think it looks really odd. You just about get away with it as you have slim legs but any ladies with chunkier legs would just look dreadful.
@j: I make up my height in my legs and they are also slender but feel the way you do about ankle boots with midi dresses and speaking namely for myself, they still give the appearance of stumpy legs which they are not.
Hi just wondering what you think about peep toe neutral colour court shoes please? Are the peep toe a Super out of fashion no no or a wardrobe classic do you think?
Love your videos Melissa. What suggestions do you have for other types of shoes to wear with wide leg denim? I'm an elementary school teacher and want to dress my jeans up a little.
I love your fun, instructional videos and have learned a lot from you. I am considering your recommendations while searching for new winter boots. I live in Alberta, Canada and need footwear that is warm and keeps me safe on slippery surfaces. I have good winter boots for outdoor activities but am searching for something that is warm, safe AND stylish for daily activities. I am seeing lots of chunky soled footwear and don't want to purchase something that will date too quickly. Any suggestions for women like me who have to focus on warmth and safety, yet want to be stylish?
I’d go for chunky sole with good grid to cover the practical, safety side but I’d make sure that the shaft of the boot was slim so it can easily slip under jeans/trousers and when paired with a cropped ankle grazer it had a sliming effect rather than adding bulk. 😘
@mmpersonalstyling What do I do? I have chicken legs. My ankles are so skinny, No boot fits. I love the Navea boots but do you think they work for skinny legs? Any suggestions?
I don't know how slender your legs are but try them and they don't work send the back - that's all you can do i'm afraid but generally speaking the sock boots fit skinny legs better than leather boots.
Great video, amazing how a shoe or boot can make or break an outfit...! The vivaia knee high boots, how high to do they come up on your leg? I'm 5'1 and struggle to sit in any knee hight boots as they are too long 😫 Thank you!
Oh my! I was just shopping a few days ago and every style of jean is on trend and I was thinking, what shoes do I pair with all my different jeans? Thank you! I’ve been following for a year and you have absolutely helped me with my wardrobe.
What type of socks do you wear with sock style ankle boot? I find if I don't wear socks that peek out of the top of the boot they wiggle down past my heal through our the day.
It sounds to me like you're not wearing the right size socks if they're slipping down? If I was to wear a trainer sock then that sometimes happens but generally speaking a sock finishing at the ankle doesn't slip down and can't be seen with ankle boots.
Can I wear the pointed toe calf sock boots with slim/skinny leg dress slacks and jeans? If so, tuck, over the shaft, or fold? They seem to tall to fold. I'm 5'.
I have the sock boots from Vivaia in black and cream ❤️And I love them🥰However the kitten heel gets busted very fast😅Maybe I have to have them fixed 🙊🙈🙉Thanks for an amazing video Malissa😍😍👏👏
Do the vivaia tall boots work w narrow calves? I can’t wear loafers at all because my foot is narrow. Even narrow shoes don’t fit. My heel just slips out. And I’m not even skinny it’s just my feet are. Very old vintage shoes often fit me - apparently feet used to be more like mine long ago.
You’d have to check the measurements on their website but generally speaking I use sock/knitted boots on both slimmer and wider legs rather than leather as they stretch to suit
I cannot have exposed skin above my ankles in my climate when wearing dresses. Skin will freeze. I currently wear a over the knee suede fitted boot (waterproof sprayed) with block heel for the icy conditions. Better suggestions?
That’s very hard for me to answer without seeing your skin tone or without knowing what the other neutrals are like in your wardrobe. So talking very generally then go for a mid-way neutral (not the lightest, not the darkest). Also think about the items you want to pair them with… hope that helps!
I don't know if you have a video JUST about the edge/length of the trouser, the type of fabric/color, and then the shoe styles. That flummoxes me to no end. I do realize it's tricky because all the above still varies dramatically by our height, weight, and legginess!
Fabulous advice as always! I am 48 as well and love your style so I'm feeling very inspired. Would love info on your jewelry too, such beautiful classic but interesting gold pieces!

Thank you! I like your mind set on this, I too only wear what I like whilst keeping my eye on trends.
I think it depends what your overall build and style is. I simply don't suit chunky footware, I look like a clown in them; but I've seen quite a few older women with edgier style looking great in them.
Go for it Nancy !
You go for it, don’t let your age stop you! X
So good! The examples of the dated boots were especially good because the differences are subtle - until you put them on! Thanks.
Glad you like them!
Wow, what differences the shoes made!! Thanks for showing us real examples of outdated looks vs. modern, non-frumpy looks. I have so many shoes to get rid of that I’ve had for years!!!!! 😅😮❤
You are so welcome, thanks for watching!
You are so welcome and thank you for following us x
Loved this video! It really shows the difference in a more contemporary shoe/ boot . Very useful , Thank you Melissa
So glad!
Hi Melissa. Beautiful boots and yes some people are still wearing those dated ones you showed us . I agree with you on everything.
Thank you!!
I love my black riding boots! I wear the off trend outfit you showed all the time.😭
And that's absolutely fine if you like them, are confident and comfortable then don't change them for anyone! This is just our opinion but it's called Personal style for a reason. xx
The shoe makes such a difference. I made some room on my shoe rack after this video. A few were ready to be re-homed. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
The elegant, stretchy Vivaia boots definitely looks more feminine, but OH I love leather boots 😉 I love those cream combat style boot you wore with pants and the cream long boots are gorgeous. I realise now how pointy shoes are actually more flattering. That was very informative thanks!
Glad you enjoyed! X
I usually LOVE your videos, but this one just seems like an ad for viviaia!! I bought a pair of them some months ago (based on your recommendation) and I’ve yet to wear them….too tight! Also they’re expensive!!
Sorry you feel like that but please feel free to not watch and wait for another video that you are interested in. X
@@mmpersonalstyling I’ll keep watching!!! I’ve been following you for ages and you’re usually very informative. I’ve recommended you to people…..and it did state that it included paid promotions! ❤️
I agree . It is sound and looks like an ad for viviaia
@@LizaNealon and I still haven’t worn the expensive shoes…. Months later!
Great video! Would love a fall & winter capsule wardrobe video for 2023!
Coming soon!
I love vivaia. I got their pointy toe and square Flats this summer and I knew I had to get their boots for autumn /winter as well. Got them and fell in love again. Can't describe how comfy they are.
Great to hear, I feel the same x
Thank you!! I am watching this in Oct 24 and found the information very useful. I shall order the beige leather boots for wearing this winter. ❤
Fingers crossed they're still available for you x
Me, too. I’m now addicted to these shoes. First time ever I could wear pointed goes. Love the boots. Go for it. You’re worth it.
That sounds fair enough to me... x
I'd love more suggestions to dress with flat shoes, but not trainers.
I thought an ankle boot with a longer dress is a no no because it divides the leg. I’m confused 🙄😣🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
It’s a styling choice and a more modern look but only if your frame can take the look.
This video was from last year so I’m afraid the trends have already moved on from here anyway!! 😱
@@mmpersonalstyling haha, I thought you would say that but you still look lovely.
So helpful thank you so much Melissa..you are a natural teacher!
You are so welcome!
Not a fan of the vivaia shoes. I need ancle support and I sincerely doubt the knit shoes will keep my foot dry in the winter months. I prefer a more timeless look like the beige shoes you showed towards the end 😊
I’m pleased you like the Beige shoes
Yes, once it snows, the knit boots are probably not the best to wear. Probably a better option for fall, early spring and if the pavement is dry. I find it a challenge when it is really snowy out.
So glad you shared the Vivaia boots! I’ve been thinking of getting a pair. Love you and your videos!
Very helpful! You put into words what I’ve been thinking or feeling about the new shoe and boot styles.
Glad it was helpful!
Great tips, though i think those particular samba trainers that EVERYONE is wearing are going to be seen as dated too very soon! Bit like the recent NB "it" trainers with wonky octopus tentacls at the back are now !😂
Very true!
Fantastic video as always Melissa. Thank you for such a detailed video. Love your opinion on all options 🩷
You are so welcome!
🧡🧡Thank you so much! How lovely and pretty are those high beige boots!!!!🧡🧡
Your videos are so helpful.
I'm so glad!
I notice the long boots you showed had a lot of fluff stuck to them- I love the look of the vivaia boots but I have a white fluffy cat and can see these boots getting scruffy fast with fluff and hair. I think leather Chelsea boots are more classic and easier to maintain (are the vivaia fully water and weatherproof?)
I also bought the chunky cream boots from marks after seeing them in your last video.
You’re doing a fabulous job on this channel. Well done. I love it ❤
Thank you so much!
This was so incredibly useful, thanks! I'm going to go boots and shoe shopping armed with this info :)
I use Calla shoes quite a bit. Traditionally they're for bunion sufferers but that makes them extra wide, it might be worth you looking at them.
Are the Vivaia boots warm? I love that they are water repellent but not sure how warm they keep your feet in the winter.
Rely on your socks to keep you warm, not your boots, other wise you'll really restrict your choice.
Greetings from Spain! I've just started watching your channel a few weeks ago and I'm impressed with your style and the practicality of your advice.
I aim to emulate Melissa Murrell's British style in my quasi-capsule autumnal and winter wardrobe❤
This footwear video is timely because I had been contemplating buying a new pair of boots and you have completely changed my mind about what I want and need! I was going for the middle ground option, but now I'm changing my mind and I'm leaning towards a chunkier pair.
great! I’m pleased we could help!
I would love to see the video about tights during cold weather. For example, wearing light knitting dress and ankle boots. Is it appropriate to wear nude colour tights or does it look strange during winter? X
It all depends on the outfit and the boots but yes, i'll try and remember to cover it for you.
M . . . enjoying your videos.
Excellent content as always ! 👍
Glad you think so!
Brilliant tips Melissa, thankyou.x
You are so welcome!
Great vlog.Ty for the work you put into it
You’re welcome 😊
I’ve got the viv boots with the chunky funky heel because I feel really wobbly in a kitten heel. Mine are in tan because cream is so impractical and these are only wipe clean not washable. I have the loafers in denim blue and love them and find the colour really versatile. So comfortable. I agree those shoes are expensive and feel sad they are made in china, although I understand why.
Thank you very much! This video was so very helpful! It is very easy to hold on to items that easily date an outfit. Time to analyze the fall and winter shoes. Thanks again!
You are so welcome!
I just ordered square toed boots in tan can’t wait to have them
Hope you like them!
I liked the vivaia pointed toe boots with kitten heel that you showed. Do you think they would go out of style soon (maybe the heel?) or they would last many years to come? I would like to invest in a decent pair of boots to go with dresses but obviously don’t want to keep buying new ones every year or so. ❤
Everything goes out of style but a small kitten heel with a point is a wardrobe classic and virtually all of my boots are this shape.
Hi Melissa, what is anti-back white? Do you use that for cleaning?
anti bacterial wipes :)
But i will book a session with a team member for May 🙌
Thank you so much!
It’s like you were reading my mind! Thank you 🙏 I live in a warmer climate so this is always a harder issue for me.
The ankle boots with midi and length dresses is really a question of taste, the ankle boot, even the sock boot, is just not flattering on many… and problem with Vivaia, I have both their boots and shoes, is that they are not leather, and after a wash or two, the water repellent is not really great. So for good weather they are fine, but when it’s cold, they are not great…
Just swap up to leather boots when tue weather demands it, that’s what I do!
I live in Canada, and the weather here is very cold in winter. There is no way I could wear those fabric shoes here. All my shoes are leather(old-fashioned), but I would love to learn how to style them. All the shoes you said not to wear I have. Please make one more video.
Sorry but we sent all the dates shoes back 😢
Not a fan of ankle boots with midi dresses where you see bare skin, I think it looks really odd.
So in your case that’s where you’d wear the longer boot and that’s why I showed that as an option - problem solved!
Hi just wondering what you think about peep toe neutral colour court shoes please? Are the peep toe a Super out of fashion no no or a wardrobe classic do you think?
A wardrobe classic with the right outfit x
Love your videos Melissa. What suggestions do you have for other types of shoes to wear with wide leg denim? I'm an elementary school teacher and want to dress my jeans up a little.
A trainer works well - a converse, adidas, veja etc. a small heeled boot would also look good and maybe for the evening a sling back shoe.
so helpful! thank you for the video. Can you do a video on how to style skirts for winter? (snow weather). thanks!!
Thanks so much Melissa for your prompt and helpful response, @@mmpersonalstyling
superb video as always
Thank you so much 😀
Your nail polish colour looks fabulous.
Thanks, it’s just a winter burgundy!
Melissa, can you remind me where to crop jeans? Is it one inch above ankle bone? I want to wear a sneaker as well as boot with the jeans. Thank you

Can you do a summer version of this video please :)
Of course but we don’t have summer clothes in our shops right now so I’ll do it again in summer x
Really like the Hobbs cashmere dress, please can you tell me if it is true to size. I am a size 10, I don’t like things oversized.
Yes it was true to size x
@mmpersonalstyling What do I do? I have chicken legs. My ankles are so skinny, No boot fits. I love the Navea boots but do you think they work for skinny legs? Any suggestions?
I don't know how slender your legs are but try them and they don't work send the back - that's all you can do i'm afraid but generally speaking the sock boots fit skinny legs better than leather boots.
great tips!
Thank you for this video! It's right on time for me as I've been trying to find some shoes that don't date me but I can wear for years to come.
Great! Glad we could help you!
Most excellent video Melissa!!!
Glad you liked it!
Great video, amazing how a shoe or boot can make or break an outfit...!
The vivaia knee high boots, how high to do they come up on your leg? I'm 5'1 and struggle to sit in any knee hight boots as they are too long 😫 Thank you!
They came just under my knees but everyone’s leg proportion is different so I’d look at the measurements on their website x
Oh my! I was just shopping a few days ago and every style of jean is on trend and I was thinking, what shoes do I pair with all my different jeans? Thank you! I’ve been following for a year and you have absolutely helped me with my wardrobe.
That's great to hear and I'm sure you're looking just lovely! x
Just bought my fist pair of Vivia boots! Thank you! I do feel very stylish in them.
What is the fit/ sizing like? I usually take a size 8 are they true to size?
What type of socks do you wear with sock style ankle boot? I find if I don't wear socks that peek out of the top of the boot they wiggle down past my heal through our the day.
It sounds to me like you're not wearing the right size socks if they're slipping down? If I was to wear a trainer sock then that sometimes happens but generally speaking a sock finishing at the ankle doesn't slip down and can't be seen with ankle boots.
I learn something new from you from every video. Thank you so much for all the great information :)
I'm so glad!
Can I wear the pointed toe calf sock boots with slim/skinny leg dress slacks and jeans? If so, tuck, over the shaft, or fold? They seem to tall to fold. I'm 5'.
Lay your trousers over the shaft of the boot.
I have the sock boots from Vivaia in black and cream ❤️And I love them🥰However the kitten heel gets busted very fast😅Maybe I have to have them fixed 🙊🙈🙉Thanks for an amazing video Malissa😍😍👏👏
you are very welcome Marianne x
Just make sure they’re a more elegant style or, embrace the chunky style - it’s the in between style that’s a little dated!
Which nude color would you recommend? The vivaia have different colors of nudes.
I do have a trousers video but it’s quite old now. Might be worth you looking at but I can’t remember it’s exact content.
Fabulous advice as always! I am 48 as well and love your style so I'm feeling very inspired. Would love info on your jewelry too, such beautiful classic but interesting gold pieces!
Thank you 👍
Great video Melissa. What other shoe can work with the wide leg jeans?
Flat loafers, uggs, flat trainers, pointed boots, cowboy boots
@@mmpersonalstyling thank you😊
Hi will those vivaia pointy shoes fit wide feet ?
I wear wide feet shoes and they fit me but please refer to their website for measurements
With bootcut jeans does the modern trainer have to be a particular colour to go with the colour of denim?
White/cream based Lighter colours tend to work best x
