AH, can't wait for this! From what I have read, the time aspect has been revised slightly--it moves slower, I think. I still can't get over this battle music (the flans), the BASS is like a cannon (flux _______ . ) It's a nice change up, and I am certain, there will be different music for every locale, based on theme, and timing in the story, which is very nice, as far as being full diverse, down to the last detail! I hope more videos are released--can't stop watching.
I really love this game. I'm glad I got to play the entire trilogy! ^^

Is it really good?
If the game was wonderful I will buy it.
1) You start with 6 days left, but you can extend the remaining time to 13 or 14 days, you just have to acquire Eradia during your battles and quests and give it to Yggdrasil each time you return to the Ark and meet Hope. Lightning always returns to the Ark at 6AM of each day. I think there will be a way to halt time in a new game plus or something.
2) No other party members playable, only battle NPCs or "guests" - like Fang - are confirmed so far. Lightning is the sole playable character.
For #1, you get these things called Glory Points from defeating monsters and doing missions, which you then give to a tree that is with Hope. The amount of Glory Points given equates to the amount of time Light can rewind time, with a max of 13 days.
As for #2, yes, Light is the only party member you have, but throughout the game, you'll encounter people who will be temporary, non-controllable party members, like Fang, Mog, and the white Chocobo/Odin.

SE, at one point you were probably hands down my favorite video game company. I remember playing and putting hours upon hours into the GBA remake of Final Fantasy 4 and 6, emulating my older brother who played them as Final Fantasy 2 and Final Fantasy 3. I remember playing Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy 10 with my older sister and greatly enjoying my time. Ever since Final Fantasy 13 was released, I have not bought a single one of your products. I wish you guys dropped FF13 after that disaster

That is probably something I would tell them too and you're right. My entire social circle does not even revolve around games which could partially be a problem if they sat and watched me, but those same people are highly unlikely to watch me play this game or any other. Like you said though, those type of outfits are probably not required and can be avoided. This is defiantly going to be a good one that is worth compromising with if need be. So, either way I'll like it.
Having Lightning fighting alone reminds me of the very first trailer for Final Fantasy XIII shown at E3 2006. Time sure does fly by xD
Yaaahhhh! I'm really looking forward to playing this. The customization of costumes look incredible too. So many options.
the difference from the ff13 system and this one is that you have attacks that follow corresponding buttons. like let's say you have thunder set to the triangle button you push triangle she casts thunder onto the opponent. it's not all auto battle and you don't exactly have the menu system. you do still have like ap points that are spent before you can use more attacks but from what i got from it you could switch to another outfit type thing which has it's own ap while the other is recharging.
I'd just heard that the gameplay was going to alter the time in game, but also they focussed heavily on replaying this game through. They wanted each play through to have different missions each time so it was going to be a lot shorter than most FF's. But based on this video, where i'm assuming that's the time of day counter at the right, every 3 seconds is a minute in the game. Which roughly works out at an hour passing by in game for every 3 minutes roughly (if my maths isn't disastrous).
Actually looks a lot better than I had initially thought! Very innovative, but still keeps true enough to the Final Fantasy framework we all know and love! Fairly excited!
Wow wow wow this game looks amazing and the change in battle mechanic makes it look really fun, seriously looking forward to this game!
One thing I love about FF was the cast of characters you control, story and amazing music.
Hope this game will have a great soundtrack and story since the cast of playable characters is removed.

You do that the Dev's have their characters spec'd and leveled higher than you should be at that time. They do it for showcasing. Like Dark Souls 2 at E3 and Toky Game Show, you played with pre-built characters that were under-leveled to make it harder. Its a simple tactic used by developers to make the game seem harder or easier. They just program in a certain outfit and stats and weapons. And the showcase those.
wow beautiful open world. i cant wait to play this and just take in the atmosphere and music.
1. It's real, as far as I've heard you can buy yourself more time but it caps out at 13 days. Still don't know how long it takes for a day to pass so I wouldn't really hold that against it until more info comes out.
2. It seems like that will be the case. You will most likely play Light solo the entire game though I do hold some hope that you might have some kinda new game+ deal where you could see other peoples stories and play as them.
Well SE said that with each enemy you kill, you gain some more time back, so if you wanted to stop and grind a little bit, the time you allot from grinding will make the clock stay around the same time as when you started grinding.
It looks to be a huge improvement from the first two installments of this series. In the first two games I felt like I used one or two paradigms for most of the game while mashing the X button. This combat system looks exciting and the world looks to be fairly open. Also, I'm really hoping to see less moogles in this game, because Mog was so annoying in the last one.
Agreed, a well done time limit can do wonders for a game. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this turn out.
I'm actually getting a lot more excited for this the more they reveal about it. At first, I thought it sounded kind of out there like the other XIII games have been, but I'm starting to think that the battle system at the core of this could really define it in a positive way.
The new battle is gonna be AWESOME to play around with. Cant wait to collect all the trophies in this game too like the other two games.
Final Fantasy FINALLY embraces the modern gaming era real-time gameplay! Maybe if the previous 2 Final Fantasy XIII's had this type of gameplay instead, perhaps they would've been much more successful. This looks like something I could play & not end up bored out of my mind by dealing with a messy menu system.
the custom outfit is awesome really looking forward to playing with that.
Personally the gameplay in final fantasy 12 was perfect, I haven't tried 13 but from the gameplay videos I know I won't like the gameplay, this one sort of looks promising it would have been great if you had more characters but it has still caught my attention.

Then you have a really good Battle System

I'm pretty sure you could change classes and costumes in mind combat in many other Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy X-2,FF3, 4. It's nothing new, and there isn't really a problem here. I see Square once again trying their hand at an action styled battle system and incorporating something familiar into it.
actually, i dont dislike the ''linear storyline''. there are two major things i dislike about final fantasy 13: the lack of returning to old places and the lack of cities. xilia provided that. although i must say, xilia is not as good as vesperia. but that is a given, for me, tales of vesperia has the best story ever. but atleast xilia had a decent combat system aswell as interactable characters and thoughtful sidequests, have have to admit the last.
I love that overclock command, you could totally own a boss with that :)
I'm definitely going to save up for this game! Beat the first two, so I'm REALLY psyched for this one. It looks great!
I am going to love the battle system, it gives it a sorta tactical hack and slash feel. And has a job system to boot.
Will definitely consider reading the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos. I have nothing against the FF 13 series, it's just not comprehensible to me story wise. But I did need some sort've source to help me understand and actually get into the logistics of what the story offers before this game comes out. Thanks!
This looks very good, I've been wanting this but now more so.
It's not the criteria. I love the fact that armor affects stat changes and the same for lightning and her outfits. It's just a few of those that I have saw such as the wedding gown and a few other of the "feminine" outfits that even a couple of my friends and sister say make things seem girly. It's not just me. I have no problem with the game itself. It's my companies' opinions and what they say when they see such things. Good thing I can choose what to wear and when.
That Army of One is a HUGE improvement over the previous one.
This battle system is a MASSIVE improvement over the original FFXIII. The graphics go without saying, the costume customization is a nice addition and the new sword and shield combination seems much more effective than having to switch to a different role to guard. 7/10 so far :)
This actually looks really good to FFXIII-2, I enjoyed 13-2 as well but this just looks really good with the actual jobs it seems. Looking forward to it.
I know FFX-2 left a pretty bad image, but this "dressing simulator" is in place place Final Fantasy V. It's called the Job System ! FFX-2 just rendered it unnecessarily sexy. Same here apparently, but it's still a job system
and trust me, i have all the right to say its shitty. not only did i play them, i made perfect run video footage, played through those games, i analyzed those games and i was fond of nearly everything before 13. hell, even 12 was awesome. this is a franchise that should be given or bought by Mistwalker ltd., the rightful owner.
i think it's super cool to be able to multiclass like that.

I actually liked FF13 because of Lightning the main character, and the premise of the story. So don't be quick to judge, Ashuraman. 13 and 13-2 also had an amazing soundtrack. Been a FF fan since I was 8 when FF8 released when I was in 2nd grade.
Imho I enjoyed all the final fantasy 13 series, and this one seems amazing too. I especially like the battle system which can be comparable with crisis core, which had the best battle system imo. If only you could run in the battle rather than walk.
I personally love this feature. You could customize the weapons, so why not her clothes? and the fact each outfit has different effects totally cool. Now, I gotta go beat part 1 of FF XIII then onward to part two. :D
I wish Square will keep this battle system along with all the customizations in menu as well for upcoming games. I don't like FF13's storyline but I must say because of how fleshed out the battles look and the ability to guard at will and combat looks so badass! I wanna get this game.

I love FF games I just never got to finish XIII and I guess until I do I'll keep feeling like this towards it. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautifully crafted game.
IMO, 13-3 is switching to this ARPG system to ease users used to traditional menu based combat in, so they are not overwhelmed by the time XV's Kingdom Hearts style battle system. not that they really need to mind you, but eh, it's Square Enix. :P
LOVE the customization options.
LOVE that you can select shields and swords apart from the costumes.
LOVE the battle system.
LOVE that we get a title for the coolest character out off FFXIII, and not a useless secondary.
HATE the time limit on the game.
HATE the fact that they made this cool, fun gameplay mechanics, but still we have to get through the unnecessary transitions into battle. Remove that and the game will be perfect.
I have played both as well, as well as all the others. I loved the 13 and 13-2. They were different and unique. Not perfect, but still really fun. Everyone has their own personal tastes I suppose. FF VII is awesome, but it only comes in at 4th on my list. 10, 13, 9, then 7. And each one includes all of the sequels, etc. I respect yours as well.
I thought the same thing too, but its actually really flexible. the more you hear about it, the more the concept will appeal to you.
I had my doubts about this game when I heard the battle system would not be as it was in 13-1 & 2, but from the looks of things this seems really cool. I think I will have to preorder it!

13 battle system did not bother me. A bit over active but I enjoyed the game. No flaws to me....

Over active, meaning, no time to choose moves. Which I did find time to do so over time. But really enjoyed the battle system..
I don't understand why everybody knocks ff 13....
Sheldon Bridges ive enjoyed playing 13, but lets face it. paradigms shift? you can only control the leader? the leader dies and everyone dies? linear as can be? its like they were trying to fail. wont even talk about 13-2 and using a monster as your friend in battle....
As much as I loved XIII and XIII-2, and think I'm going to love XIII-3 even more. One of the only things that I didn't like about the first two, were that you didn't get gil after battles like you normally would.
he probably does because this concept doesn't bother me one bit.I think it is actually pretty cool how they add more variety to the game and gives the game more replayability.

Very impressed on how everything has come to together for this game. With this game on the way, good entries like FFXIII & FFXIII-2, TWEWY, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 remix, KH 2.5 remix on the way, FFX/FFX-2 remastered on the way, Final Fantasy XV & Kingdom Hearts 3 on the way, Drakengard 3 on the way, possible FF Type-0 to the west & FFXII HD might happen?
Square Enix has and continues to prove why they are my favorite Japanese company.
I was worry about the mechanic, but it´s much more dinamic! I can´t wait to play the game! I love FFXIII trilogy, especially Lightning.
This game looks awesome! I find it unfortunate how many people refuse to play 13-2 and will refuse to play this one because of how they felt of 13. While I still enjoyed 13, I can understand why so many people were against it due to the fact that the game was far too linear for a final fantasy game. It's just that 13-2 was fantastic in every aspect and this one will probably also be very good, and there are so many people who will miss out just because 13 was considered unsatisfactory. Also, Lightning is the best character in final fantasy, she deserves that second chance people XD

I'm kind of excited to try this new battle system
So I was all ready to hate on this game, but watching this video I'm actually pissed I don't have a console to play it on anymore. Seeing the plethora of jobs you can choose from to take 3 into any given battle, and the manual guarding/dodging the battle system looks really fun. And the individual customization of each job is something I really like.

I agree,I'm very impressed with it....its not like the battle system like the first game.
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!! I hated the first one (haven't finished it) because I got tired of watching as my team would walk back into death because the A.I. said it must. It was really just selecting commands and hoping your team didn't screw up. In fact, sometimes, the A.I. just picked stupid things and still ruined your plans anyway.
A lot of people is getting stuck on the old mechanics of the game which is a turn based type of battle. And people always question how linear the recent series is. I agree that this series is not the best. But I thought it was okay and made it interesting. It would be nice however to keep the same characters from the first one til now usable but the new battle mechanics are still interesting. You have to put into perspective what the FF Series is battling against in the gaming world.

You can say whatever you want about the XIII series, but this looks pretty awesome. I like how they bring monsters like the Chocobo Eater back to the FF series. Btw, did I just see blood in a FF game??

And that was the general point I was trying to make: we shouldn't judge the entire game based on an easy segment they specifically choose to show off. Especially when it isn't even out yet -_-
The rest is just opinion. Part of what I said was my opinion, derived from watching the video, and was guesswork. I obviously don't know the reality, nor does anyone else just yet
Errol Hurt: so you don't notice that you can switch classes on the fly, the improvement to combat where you can do combo attacks based on the ATB gauge, and the open world feel that the game has? Not to mention the massive amounts of customisation. You're right. It does look like the last 2 games and there are no improvements at all.
I started re playing from beginning on 13 and its not as bad. I applaud SE ff needs changes going forward and not everyone will agree. We just have to enjoy it
you got gil from XIII-2 but XIII was grinding gill really hard with the platium ignots or perfume farming
i think its supposed to motivate you to do multiple playthroughs with different decisions if possible and i think you can extend the time limit
I still don't get why some fans still bitch about SE leaning more towards action base combat, it makes it a 100 times more fun to play. Lighting Returns & FFXIV ARR got the best combat system I've ever seen on a FF game. The only thing LR needs is to loose the transition into battles and be more like FFXIV where you can slay monster with out interruptions, while FFXIV could use the level of customization LR has. Next game will be FFXV...
SE is coming back with a vengeance.
Didn't really like the first XIII but this battle system looks SOO much better and it looks like you may have more freedom to roam as well. Might pick this one up!
I have had my pre-order ticking for many many months. Roughly about the time it was announced. Cant wait to play this.

At first i thought it was boring after playing it 2 hrs for part 1 of the series. But 2 yrs later, i went back to finish the game, i realized that the game is amazing because of the plot. I admit it sucks in the beginning, but once you keep playing it, it gets better :)
Started playing this the other day and it really isn't that bad and considering the amount of hate the game has been getting i was expecting it to be dreadful but it really isn't, quite the opposite actually IMO
If you don't like it fine whatever, i intend to enjoy this myself.

Well, since Final Fantasy's essence is exactly that: a series that keep changing from game to game, I would guess Squeenix does HAVE to keep changing it, you know.
I would think it's rather you who's not fond of Final Fantasy anymore since FF XIII's battle system was very similar to that of old games (paradigm shift excluded). You can just press on X to attack, or you can be a little smarter and actually choose your abilities.
The stagger gauge still exists, but its just not visible anymore

FF XIII has so many potentials, but unfortunately the failed to show it in the game. But I don't understand why people hate the game so much. For me, I love the characters (yes, sometimes they got annoying, but I still like them), I like the story (even though it's a little bit confusing at first), overall is a great game (even though the previous FF games are still beter in terms of gameplay).
LR is very different with the other FF, but it's really interesting.

definitely getting this. almost done with ff13, then im buying ff13-2, after i beat ff13-2 ill buy this when the price goes down. so many great games in this generation i don't have time and cant afford to play them all. i miss my final fantasy times.
