ABOUT THE STH-10
this model shown has a 3phase, 220v, 10hp electric motor, spinning at 3470rpm. this beast has seen better days in the last 60+ years since its in service
in the later years, FS made the sth with a 7.5HP motor to save cost on copper windings but they did not want to change the name of the siren, so FS still made sth-10 with a 7.5hp instead of a 10hp motor. this siren produces 115dB at 100ft. has 12 ports, and 12 projectors(or horns) there is an argument of what the S in STH really stand for, i think its Single, instead of Special because what makes that exact tone make it special. but if i'm wrong, please feel free to let me know
massed produced from 1955-2006, a total of 51 years that they were made, replaced the sth-10 is an eclipse 8
little tip on finding exact tones of sirens :take the rpm of the motor (big FS sirens) its usually 3470rpm, model 2 is around 8570 rpm on 240V
take the rpm(rotations per minute) and divide it by 60, that gives you the rps (rotations per second), then take that number and multiply it by the number of ports
example: for the exact tone of an STH-10
3470/60 equals 57.8 57.8x12=694Hz

My fire company uses an STH-10, one of the first built, it sounds exactly like this, and the good news is, we have NO intentions of taking it down any time soon.
I believe this is the siren I hear several times a week where I live. It goes off at any time of the day or night I think, because a few weeks ago it went off at 3 AM :s. I love the sound of it from down the road. So eerie. Still not sure if this is it but it REALLY sounds like it.
@AgentJayZ yes volunteer, i will soon apply for this station and we still do use pagers. it was much harder to get this video because they don't do a siren test or any of those noon blast,but luckily they told me that they got a call
@dhatje yea it was painful and LOUD lol, i didn't had any earplug/muffs, i feel perfectly normal they only hurt for a couple hours after it went off.
although i do plan on getting another video of this monster going off, in a non-shaky, full wind down lol,

When I was a little kid ( 70's) there would be tests of the air raid sirens, and they were always freaky,'cause you only knew it was a test when you didn't see bombs going off... This siren sounds like one of those.
I turned this video on just as we got a call and we use an sth 10. We also use pagers.

Yea these sirens will scream, we have one ontop of the fire house and when it goes off you can watch pennies move on the concrete.

I bet they did a fire call. Heyworth used the siren for fire calls awhile ago.

Alexander Bundschuh there was a school that lost power and the alarm goes off everytime, they fixed that issue not long ago, but to answer your question, no fire, it was recalled
