Thunderbolt 1003 all 3 Signals

  • THIS IS THE OFFICIAL AND ORIGINAL VIDEO I HAVE,
    NOTE: THIS IS NOT MY VIDEO!!!! i uploaded this because the user of this video deleted the video due to, too many bad comments on videos (that's what i heard) but i won't let this get out of hand and so i uploaded it so u guys can watch it as well
    any questions, comment below or send a massage i do read your comments so no negative crap
    FIRST signal is fire, high low, is sirens that use solenoids to block the air in one row of ports/openings preventing that tone to sound thus only the other row will sound as long as it is not blocked and "hi-lo" is created with that cycle repeating how fast it is set to
    SECOND is called alert, popular for warning others, for a tornado/testing, its where the tone is steady
    THIRD is called attack, popular for firehouses that don't have sirens with solenoids, used as well as some siren testing after alert
    there are a couple more signals but they would have to be rewired to make the signals
    ALTERNATING HI LO
    (solenoids in hi lo mode non-stop with attack mode) my personal favorite
    this signal is semi rare to find since most tbolt/3T22 have the hi low for alert rather than attack. this is unique because with the hi low still activated while in attack changes the tone each time the solenoids are activated.
    PULSED (friend's favorite)
    this signal is also semi rare to find. this is done by having the 2 solenoids wired to the same terminal connections in the control panel. this will make them open and close at the same exact time. (like binary On or Off) you get Pulsed sound while in alert
    ALTERNATING PULSED
    this is rarely used. this is the same as Pulsed (see above) but instead of running it on alert, you run it on attack and the solenoids still switch while the rotor winds down and winds up
    if i missed a signal or correct my description, feel free to comment below

    First tone: Hi-Lo (Fire) (solenoids used to block the ports individually, producing the fire tone)
    Second tone: Alert (used in Civil Defense times as all clear)
    Third and final tone: Attack (Take Cover)

    For California through 1966, the first tone wasn’t used. The second tone was “all clear” and the third tone was the “alert” tone. Every Wednesday at 1:00 pm the two alerts were tested. I haven’t heard the tones since 1966.

    I live right next door to an alert siren which they test on the first Thursday of every month. It looks like they have about 10-12 of these Thunderbolts strapped together in a circle, about 150-200 feet in the air. You can still hear the echoes bouncing and rolling around in the mountains and across the bay into town for a full 30 seconds after it stops. I've heard it go off for real several times for tsunami warnings, which are accompanied by directions on which way to run. Everyone heads for high ground. I would love to have my own, but pretty sure it would land me in jail! I couldn't resist cutting loose with it. Great uploads and love your channel. LIKED and already SUBSCRIBED! Greetings from Alaska.

    That third tone is the one most of all you never, ever want to hear outside of siren testing.
    The first is bad -- homes are burning, lives are in danger, but the fire will eventually go out.
    The second is bad -- tornado is on the way, lives are in danger, but the tornado will eventually leave.
    But the third one could be, could be the last sound you hear before the end of civilization as we know it. May that day never come.

    • @torpedo996

      The last one is Air Raid. Which nowadays can mean the end of civilization.

    • @Elizabeth-ts4om
      @Elizabeth-ts4om 8 лет назад +2

      It's because the blower on this siren is reverse wired. You can tell because this Thunderbolt is higher pitched and doesn't "roar" like most 'bolts, plus notice how during the wind Down's the chopper cuts off briefly and then regains normal speed? That usually means a backwards blower

    The reason they make the sirens irregular and disconnected is to prevent sensory adaptation. In other words: This type of irregular repeating sound can't be ignored. The same way you get sensory adaptation when you suddenly hear how loud your computer was when you finally turn it off and can hear the room without the constant steady humm.

  • @racer927

    Carson Whiting The sound suddenly fading out like at 0:57 is not the solenoids closing the outlets but actually the blower shutting off, hence why it suddenly mutes itself. (The blower is used to amplify the sound a siren makes like on this or an ACA Hurricane.)

    Note: This does approximately 1 minute of each signal. And notice how the horn stops at roughly the same spot every time it finishes a signal? Meaning that you can judge how many RPM's the horn spins by counting. Approximately after 1 rotation it becomes 1 minute. The horn stops in the West/North spot pretty much every time. Very interesting. There's some science for yo ass XD LOL but I'm sure you knew all of that allready

    Step back to a time when men flooded the field of battle either on foot or horseback and the only way commands could be transmitted from commander to soldier was by audible horn or bugle calls. Every soldier was well versed in what cadence of high and low tones meant. To misread the call could put you in greater danger. Now in the age of electronic media, all an enemy has to do is to knock out our ability to communicate, ie. satellites and cell towers, and these sirens may once again be as needed as they were in the 1950's.

    First tone....tornado warning....especially eerie when the lightening is flashing everywhere and the wind is blowing; second....alert....county fire....third attack....city fire.

    @hootergirlsrhot - I dont think these do alternate wail, man. and alternate pulsed doesnt even make any sense. Pulsed is when both solenoids are closed on/off at the same time... And alternate is pretty much another word for Hi/lo.
    @djpooh28 - Not entirely rare, cool that theres one down the street and the three models are 1003(Shown), 1000T and 1000. . .

    There’s more than three tones it can do, it can do alert, attack, hi-Lo, ALT wail, wail, pulse.

      Yes but Alternate wail and pulse was only special ordered and wail is the attack tone.

    • @childishtombino1275
      @childishtombino1275 8 лет назад

      +Marlon Vasquez would that affect the wind down time?

    • @NickSilcox3
      @NickSilcox3  8 лет назад

      the series only has to do with how the blower is setup. if the roots blower has a large pulley and motor is smaller, its an A series
      if the root veins are side by side and the blower intake and discharge is on top and bottom (horizontal) B series.
      if the root veins are on top of each other and the intake and discharge are on the sides, its a C series blower. you cannot tell from the way it sounds, you gotta open the cover to find out. it does not effect the sound output in and shape, way or form.
      what can effect the sound is the horsepower, single phase or 3 phase and rpm. either 7.5 or 10HP and 1725 or 3450 rpm and thats only on startup. the counterweights on the relief, and the blower delay has to do with blower performance and how long runs after the last cycle of the siren

    • @d00mhound
      @d00mhound 8 лет назад

      because the wiring to the blower is backwards

    • @NickSilcox3
      @NickSilcox3  8 лет назад

      +- ̗̀StrikerTheFoxy ̖́- lolXD you think they will leave it wired backwards?
      3 phase alternating current, if the motor spins the wrong way, simply swap any 2 leads and you're good, its too easy and a 1 minute task

  • @NickSilcox3
    @NickSilcox3  13 лет назад

    @MrBrandon411 the first signal is called fire, thats the high low signal. the second is called alert, when its steady on. the third is called attack, firehouses use this signal if their siren doesn't enable them to do the high low
