i already mentioned this elsewhere about the voice acting of the originals, but i swear there is
also an interview with one of the actors saying it was odd working with the JP voice director.
the VAs tried to deliver the lines in a way that made sense to the context they were given.
and the director wasnt having it any way but his own.
i THINK it was James' voice actor, Guy Cihi, who said this.

The answer is every single fanbase has toxic members of the community who do this.
There is no worst fanbase, all fanbases just have that toxic fandom built in to some degree.

yeah... to be honest the only fnabase i'd argue as "actually the worst" is genshin, merely because unlike other fanbaseds they ACTUALLY went out of not only their fanbase but also of the medium to bother other opeople nad companies for things they didn't like in their game(i.e. the first annyversary fiasco)
every other fanbase... it's just fanbases being fanbases.
would be interesting to hear more about what made the fanbase what it is though, same goes for other "black sheep fanbases", like for example SMT fanbase

I gotta say, I was very skeptical of the Bloober Team remake. After the combat trailer, I felt that they were going to focus on action and go for a more RE2 Remake style. Combine that with not really being a fan of Layers of Fear or that Blair Witch game gave me some pretty low expectations. Now, having gone through the SH2 remake multiple times now, I'm absolutely loving it! I'm currently running through my last playthrough to grab the platinum trophy! Bloober couldn't have done a better job!

Thing about RE2R not having or elaborating on all the small details of the original versus Silent Hill 2 Remake adding far more world details than the original:
Firstly, Silent Hill 2 Remake released five years after RE2R. Half a decade, plus a new console generation makes a big difference. Secondly, RE2 used pre-rendered backdrops where Silent Hill 2 rendered the environments in real-time. RE2R's rendering is far beyond what was done for the original's pre-rendered backgrounds but it has to run in real time and so fitting in each detail is harder, especially when you have a colossally high bar for visual fidelity in comparison. Silent Hill 2 could only fit in details possible on a PS2 in real-time, so it's easier to beat in terms of small details within the game world.
A better comparison would be RE4R since it released only last year and the original was also limited by hardware for the graphical fidelity its world space. Also both are remakes that turned out amazing despite the apprehension of some fans.

Lots of great points. However, I do think the fan disappointment with the HD ports of SH2 and SH3 is justified. Yes, the Comic Sans sign is an overblown thing and not a huge deal even if it does show a lack of attention to detail on the part of the devs. The dev team that put together the HD ports were hugely inexperienced and somebody on the team even said they were shocked when the final build was approved for release by Konami. It was a disaster for multiple reasons. True that all the problems may not have been noticeable to new players, but that doesn't mean they aren't terrible ports. The voice acting was changed for seemingly no reason whatsoever, and in the case of SH3 the original voices aren't even available as an option. Not a great way to experience SH3.
As a side note, SH1 and 3 are amazing games. 3 is a little absurd and frustrating with all its aggressive enemies on first playthrough, but it gets a lot more fun on repeat playthroughs. And I have full confidence that in the right hands, a remake of 1 could easily be a better, scarier, more memorable game than even SH2 Remake (which was very, very good).

i think the angela thing really sticks with me because of how bad i am at recognizing faces irl
i have trouble looking people in the eye for some reason, instinctually i want to instantly avert my eyes when looked at
because of this, im really bad at seeing faces for long enough to memorize them correctly, i think. i feel a little bad about this sometimes.
i always have been able to look at video game characters, but the grittier more realistic ones gave me similar trouble often. possibly due to lack of interest in them?
recognizing more realistic looking human faces is a very unique feeling i think. this might just be me being weird, but, it means a lot to me. it feels very significant.
i recognize most of the characters okay! i only get the FULL rush of recognition with mary/maria for some reason
with eddie the rush of recognition happens halfway and feels like i was mistaken maybe
i have no rush of recognition for angela at all so i feel a little sad.
new scenes kinda interest me! based on source material? or cut content? i feel apprehensive but hopeful.
the idea to stilt the dialogue on purpose in certain key moments sounds FANTASTIC, what a cool idea and compromise!
execution of the ideas is vital, but i wanna be hopeful (but not so hopeful i am unrealistic with too high expectations)
hehe shortcut door toggle in the options menu tho pls (i am insane and enjoy suffering 🥲 )
more detail sounds great too. environmental design and storytelling is sooo cool (i unironically love staring at walls! i mean it!!!)
well, my backlog is really really massive, so new games tend to get washed away down the line for a long time lol
but im glad it sounds like this isnt bad as the hearsay. rumors are pretty scary i guess... tho i still miss angela's cheekbones😔
    hehe

I'm just gonna say that I hope to see Silent Hill 2 Remake on the Next Switch, and in the meantime I also hope to see Silent Hill 2 HD on the current Switch as part of a Master Collection alongside Silent Hill 1 PS1 and Silent Hill 3 HD. At the moment, there is no Silent Hill on Nintendo Switch, I want to see that fact changed. And if there can be 2 versions of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on the same systems at the same time, why not two versions of Silent Hill 2?
Just to clarify, I'm just someone who wants to see as much historical representation as possible on the current Nintendo Switch. Over the years, we've seen many legacy titles come to Nintendo Switch in one form or another. 5 years ago, how many people could have realistically expected to see Metal Gear Solid, Marvel Vs. Capcom, Red Dead Redemption, Persona, and Portal all actually happen on Switch? I am grateful to have almost everything I could ever want on Nintendo Switch. However, there are still a few holes in the selection that could realistically still be filled before the focus shifts entirely to the Next Switch, with Silent Hill and Tekken being among the biggest ones that can be filled within reason.

You can find the PC version of the original Silent Hill 2 for free online and use a fan mod to basically make it the definitive version.
It takes more setup and a decent PC, but it's vastly preferable to what Konami has put out in regards to the HD collection.

What happened was Konami did not preserve the final build of the game, so they made a totally new team work with an unfinished older build that they simply couldn't get working right. They expected Konami to reject it, they didn't, and on top of it they recorded new VA work with different actors because they had pay disputes with some of the OG SH2 cast and wanted to try phasing them out. • @Hi_Just_Fred
      @Hi_Just_Fred 3 месяца назад

While I do think some get hostile about certain things, I found this comment a bit rambly.
Team Silent had no say in how the movie handled the IP, Konami are who approved it.
However if you only know the movie and use movie information to retroactively speak on the games then yes it is misinformation and it'd be better to look up information on the games to make sure you're saying stuff that makes sense.
In the case of "Real place" being better than "personal hell" that's more a preference, and in the games yes Silent Hill had some nods and information to where it was geographically. The film makers set it in their own real world location to easily explain the fog in the series for it's interpretation.
Also movie differences like that are very common for adaptations.
For example if I just tried telling people what Resident Evil or Hellboy was based on the films there'd be a lot of things that don't line up with the original source material at all because film makers usually like to take their own spin on it.

I will say I disagree that James was always meant to be "like able"
And though you don't like SH1 the protagonist from that game Harry Mason fits that description far better than James.
Without getting into spoilers, I don't think it's a stretch to say James being a character that players aren't meant to feel comfortable playing as feeds into the ending reveal of what he did and why he's being haunted by the town.
I think if James was meant to be more likeable and "everyman" it would diminish his character and personally I do feel that's the case with his character here in the remake where he's generally reworked to, yes, be more of that mold for the most part. He feels a bit less distinct to me, and more like a blander take that's mainly carried by a good VA performance.

Ge helps a little girl. Talks down manic people gently. And throughout the game seemingly wants to find his wife because he's dedicated.

    • @Hi_Just_Fred
      @Hi_Just_Fred 3 месяца назад

@@ShesezTheNews for Laura they both start off very antagonistic and remain hostile until much later in the game, like how he snaps at her when she challenges his perception of Mary and what happened.
And only after understanding Laura's relationship to Mary does he truly start to open up to her and even then he ONLY accepts the responsibility of caring for her like Mary wanted in one of many possible endings. So personally it felt less like "He cares for her" and more "He doesn't understand why she cares about Mary, until he comes to terms with and accepts the reality rather than whatever version of events he constructed in his mind out of grief."
Harry Mason's entire motivation by contrast is finding his daughter, so again that trait feels much more accurate to him than James who doesn't seem like someone put together enough himself to care for others.
As for him gently talking people down, that's not as prominent to me with Eddie or Angela as for me he mainly gives off the vibe of being uncomfortable around other people with their own issues. James isn't really a therapist or super sympathetic towards them, he merely engaged with Angela and Eddie in questioning manners trying to get information he's seeking because he's pursuing the hopeless idea Mary is alive and waiting for him purely out of a delusion that she reached out to him when in his mind James already knows and even addresses the fact he doesn't actually believe Mary is alive he's just desperate hoping he'll either get someone to fill that void (like Maria) or be absolved of his guilt by the end.
James is a person who's far too troubled himself to ever hope to comfort anyone, and even in moments where he could potentially be offering that like the staircase scene with Angela he doesn't truly offer that. When Angela basically turns the idea of suicide back on him he dismisses it like "No, I could never kill myself..." despite one ending being exactly that.
I think James is intentionally written in a way to show that he's not that positive or supportive person, and this feeds into the reason he killed Mary not simply to put her out of her misery but also because he wanted his life back. James is remorseful, and he isn't an awful person, but he is not good or likeable.
I like him and he's my favorite protagonist for all these reasons, because it's so rare you get a character like James who isn't a clear cut good person who's fully absolved of his wrong doings just because he's the protagonist. And I feel some aspects of him in the remake diminish that unique quality he has.
