They must have proper training by someone who understands their temperment. And you must maintain their coat. They are prone to hot spots on their bodies and have other special needs, like a cooler climate. Their temprament can be an issue. I reccomend a mixed breed.
My family farm dog was a Chow name ‘King’. He was so big I used to ride him like a horse. He was extremely good at protection. He saved my life in the swamp when I was a child. A guy escaped prison and just my luck I ran into him in the swamp. Let’s just say King and the pack wasn’t hungry tht night 🫠. I love you King 🙏🏾🙌🏾.
I used to have a chow and she was 13 years old, we had move into our house 2 days prior to he running away, she didn't know the town very well and never came back, she was my guardian angel since she was born, a black fluffy bundle of loyal love... I'll never forget her 😢
Chow pitbull mix was one of my best friends for 14 years. It was like having a very adorable bear that was very protective and loved kids and didn't bark often. She helped me rescue and rehabilitate countless aggressive dogs into happy dogs. RIP Cindilou ❤
When I was a kid my grandparents had a chow golden mix named Bear that they ended up with as a puppy when he wandered into their yard. No one ever came around looking and he had no tags so they just kept him. He was the sweetest dog ever. I don't think I can remember ever hearing him bark or growl and we would lay on the floor with him and use him as a pillow when we were over.
My first dog was a chow chow. I have four canine scars on my stomach from the time I was six and tried to take away one of his bones cuz I thought it was a chicken bone. He reacted out of instinct but I didn't want him to be hurt or taken away because he came over to me and started licking me as soon as it was over. They had animal control come out and do a visit I begged and cried for them to not take him and they didn't. He lived to be an old man and I love and miss him very much
I love Chows. Mine would have laid down his life for me. He tolerated my family and took responsibility for them because they were part of my household. And he hated everybody else, lol. He was naturally polite, though. You don't train Chows, you make agreements with them. ;)
@@lienhua5558 Shar-Peis are great too. When I used to walk my daughter to school, we sometimes ran into an elderly gent walking his Shar-Pei. When that happened, we always petted the dog. But if we saw them again later on the same day, the dog didn't want to be petted. He'd already fulfilled the day's social obligations! Both Chows and Shar-Peis seem to have strong opinions on what's proper. :)
That is a perfect line to describe them. I have a gsd who is very much the same. My family and myself are his pack anyone else is a moving meal. (not that I'd ever allow him to actually harm anyone)
We had a chow growing up. He hated everyone but my Mamaw and Great-Grandmother. You'd ask him what was wrong, and he'd give you a look like you'd disappointed your ancestors. Then Mamaw would smile at him, and he'd dance up to her like a little baby, fluff that bouncy tail, and look over his shoulder at us, laughing. Like, "See, this is what a superior human looks like.
