@@cmbaileytstc I would agree that Logitech wheels can feel strong. But going from a Logitech to a belt driven or direct driven wheel does feel amazing, crisp and detailed. You don't realise until you try.
A very informative video, Mike. Thanks for answering the question. When upgrading from non-FFB Logitech in 2011, I decided to pursue the then-still-young Fanatec route. I used my CSR wheel until November 2021 and it still performs flawlessly.. so well engineered. I decided to upgrade to the CSL DD and ordered it pre-launch. I cannot be happier. I much prefer a lighter FFB as I feel the finer nuances much more clearly, so I have FFB set at between 60 and 80% in game (in RF2 as low as 40% for formula cars). It is the perfect wheel for me.
Another thing that wasn't mentioned (probably been mentioned by someone else but didn't feel like reading thru all the comments) is being able to change wheelbase settings on-the-fly, for me personally is a massive 'PRO'!
I have a AF V2 Pro, I take the wheel off when I'm done each session, when I turn it on (switched power bar) I leave the wheel off and let it calibrate then I put the wheel on, saves the cable getting stuck at calibration and ripping the ends off. Agreed, the control box power supply fan is VERY noisy, but since I race in VR, I don't hear it once I have the headset on. :) A while back (a year or so) the sim commander software came out with a new feature of loading FF profiles from the cloud, this is a amazing feature which made me love my wheel that much more since I hated trying to get the wheel dialed in with the wild amount of settings in the software. I have a bad left shoulder, so I turn down the FF strength a bit but even then, I feel all the little details of any given track or car, I love this wheel! LOL :)
Sim Commander and the cloud profiles are just fantastic. Not enough can be said about that software. Even if you don't get 100% feel you like it gets you to a great starting point.
If you have CSL DD Pro (PS version) and you plug that McLaren rim in it (or any Xbox rim), it will become Xbox Compatible. Because chip for Xbox compatibility is in rim not base. So it makes it one of few wheel bases which is compatible with Xbox, PC and PS. That is why I own it :)
That’s one major thing, why Fanatec are the best. The only ones that do that. Fanatec it’s so ahead of every other simulation hardware company. A lot of PC people are in denial. All of these comoanies, accuforce, simcube, monza ect…are good but not even close to Fanatec as a complete package. I have the DD PRO since I needed the compatibility for PS5 and XSX and it’s amazing. I have the 5nm version, without load cell pedals and it’s more than enough for me. Plus I know I’m future proof when I buy a new PC.
@@Bombichote1 how is a PC more future proof than a console, it's just about the same, a PS console could last for 10 years for a generation, you'll get unlimited choice of game until it gets unsupported, while for PC you'll have to upgrade after 5 years or more (atleast 400$ for just GPU), you'll spend more for CPU (don't want any bottlenecks), maybe a better RAM, don't forget faster and more spacious SSD, and a new motherboard while at it, a case too? your PC is not that futureproof
Tbh you would have liked fanatecs dd wheel in genrral from 8 to 20nm. I do also something anout the delivery and the polished cleaner feel. The cs dd pro feels fantastic and for me the new dd/dd+ feel awesome. I did get the 15nm dd+ and so happy i did. Super controlled super good weight insane center torwue helps me feel grip always feels grounded and wsy less understeeer feeling compared to other bases i use so i always feel like im cornering perfectly. Pretty insane The csl dd pro 8nm is just a powerful 8nm base.
I have wireless Accuforce wheel now. So there's that covered. Also Simcommander walks all over Fanatec for feel and seat of pants effect. Simcommander is what makes the FFB come alive
I thought about getting that wireless wheel from AccuForce, but seems a little on the expensive side when bought separate, but I am a cheap :). I am always reluctant on Fanatec as I own the Clubsport V3 and the software and firmware have been less than stellar. Not uncommon for me to start a race, and my pedals don't work. I have to exit games and recalibrate constantly.
I actually prefer the look of the CSL DD but that is mainly due to the shape and overall height/width/depth physical size. I like that the metal fins like a heatsink actually have a practical application that allows it to be a small cube size, and not require any cooling fans (that will eventually need to be replaced).
I think it looks good as well (I also like the similar look of the Moza R9). However, to be fair the AccuForce looks much better in person than in pictures and videos for some reason.
Switched from a 2012 FANATEC CSR Wheel yesterday to the GT DD Pro and the Clubsport v3 pedals yesterday. This is like a whole new level. CSR Wheel is still fine, event though a bit worn out after almost 10 years. Thanks for the video!

DD Pro is PC and PS5/PS4, CSL DD is PC and XBox, so either way you are stuck with one console. i got a CSL DD because the PS5 is still not delivering 120fps in gran turismo 7, but maybe the Pro version of the PS5 will, though i hope by then it will also come to PC.
@@pieflies correct. there seem to be wheelbases that are PC&XBox but not PS, and then there are wheelbases that are PC and PS but also XB. there is no wheelbase thats just PC&PS
Hi Mike, love your videos. I've wanted to see this comparo for a while. I have to take issue with you on the title of the video - the Accuforce is 16Nm peak, not 13. 13 is the sustained torque. That makes the Accuforce twice or 100% more powerful than the CSL DD. Pretty misleading, although i'm sure not intentional. I agree the fan is quite annoying. A replacement inaudible fan from Noctua is about $20 on amazon, and it's about a 5 minute job to swap. Obviously this could in theory be used to void your warranty. I ran mine fanless for a week or so - it barely got warm to the touch. Replacement 3ft cables are online for about $25 for 3. I ripped out my original cable like you by switching on the wheel when it was already turned. I bought a 3 pack of cables a year ago but haven't needed more than one. I'd rather this than risk the crappy pins of the fanatec breaking and needing a warranty return, what with Fanatec's shipping reputation. Something that does annoy me about accuforce is that they've taken the user to user support forums offline. They obviously couldn't be bothered with monitoring them. There was a lot of useful info there that just went poof. Overall there's no way i'd switch the AF for a CSLDD unless there was a significant improvement in the clarify of FF - it sounds like there isn't. The hardware including button box and paddles are rock solid and durable, and the QR is motorsports grade. I think the only thing i'd upgrade to is a simucube. Still waiting on the lottery win!
There is nothing inherently wrong with the Fanatec pins. It takes negligence to damage them just like the cable on other wheels but it’s much easier to make a mistake that damages the cable whereas if you take 2 seconds to correctly line up and secure the Fanatec rim and not just slam it on you will never have an issue. In around a decade of using Fanatec gear I have never had an issue with pins. That being said I would like to try a Simucube someday.
@11:24 I don’t know, I think CSL dd looks very good n’ compact, I like the looks more than the dd podium because aesthetically it fits right in with black aluminum extrusion rigs. To each it’s own though.
Love the content. I personally love the look of the CSL DD because it matches my aluminum profile rig (TR160) perfectly. I have been considering upgrading to the DD2 and have the cash, but I honestly don't know if I need more out of a wheel base....Love the CSL DD so far.
Hi there. Long time sub here. I bought my Accuforce around 2018 or so but the rest of my gear is Fanatec (Shifter/Handbrake and CSv3 pedals). Lately I've been getting into retro racing games which most of the time only allow 1 usb device to control the game so this is making move to a CSL DD. Don't get me wrong I love the FFB on the Accuforce but the convenience of Fanatec's ecosystem cannot be understated.

I know it can be done with vjoy but it just adds to the headache

What did you do? I was using a TS-PC which I preferred to Fanatec's belt drive wheels, the CSL DD 8Nm is nice tho', I've only used a couple of DD1's and I much prefer the CSL DD. I do use it with a very light wheel tho, 200 grams lighter than the McLaren, helps with rotational speed and everything else really.
Hi Mike! Great video - and particularly pertinent for me at the moment! I am currently evaluating switching from my AccuForce Pro V2 to either a Fanatec DD1 or the CSL. At this point the DD1 will probably win as I prefer the wheel selection and the DD1's look. I, like you, do not really chase the peak nm performance - I am more about the detail and the response of the wheel base than it's strength. A big factor for me, is that almost every game you see these days has sponsorship from Fanatec meaning that support for it's wheels are going to be great straight out of the box for most simulators. This is a big deal for me, as I don't have the time for endless tweaking - I just want to jump in and immerse myself in a fun race whenever I can find the time. Thanks for the detailed analysis - much appreciated.

An Ï Agree" video. I use the CSL DD and McLaren wheel too. I have the upgraded quick release on it though. The ugly box doesnt worry me as you cant see it really and it is quiet. It fits much better between a rig and free standing monitor stand.
Great review. Your comments for both wheels are legit. My only hesitation is that the accuforce design is more than three years old. I can only imagine what an accuforce 3 could be. What potential!! While I recognize that there are global supply chain issues, I wish they would lay out a product roadmap. Moreover, it would make me feel better that they had future hardware plans so that I could be comfortable about the long-term prospects for the terrific software.
@@SimRacing604 there is another thing to consider. SimExperience is a small American company in an environment that makes it tough to compete (mass production, overseas generic production, crazy marketing budgets). It would be great to support them. As you said, the AF2 is long in the tooth so maybe they can be encouraged to talk about the future so people have something to look forward to.
To avoid any claim of being a SimXperience fanboy, I own a DD2 and a CSL DD, although I will soon be the owner of a Gseat and Gbelt from Sim Experience. I don’t own the AF2.
I’ve had the McLaren V1 for a handful of years, it’s a great rim but I absolutely hated the rocker paddle shifter and I bought paddle shifters from sim racing machines. I find them so much more comfortable and it now has a satisfying click when shifting. The other added bonuses of no more double shifts and having to spray compressed air every week to move dust from the sensors to help prevent double shifts.
I went with a Simagic Alpha instead of an Alpha Mini because I could afford the extra cost and by going with a little more power I feel like it "future proofs" the wheelbase a little more - and by that I mean as computing power increases and more and more detailed feedback is added to sims, the wheelbase will have room to take advantage of these advances without perhaps one day maxing out. My theory anyway. 😀👍🏁
A couple notes I have on this video. You could look into getting a PCI-E internal USB card to add more ports to your system. Something you can do on the cheap, is plug light use peripherals into a USB hub. Things like mouse and keyboard dont need much bandwidth and would be fine plugged into a hub. Some keyboards even have a USB hub built into them, so you can plug your mouse directly into that. As far as wheel pins, I have 4 different rims. In my years of using a CSW 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5, I have yet to bend or break any pins. Maybe because I'm careful about lining up , and I dont release the collar until it is firmly attached. Not sure.
Great video as always. One thing that doesn't seem to come through on pictures or videos when it comes to the AccuForce is its appearance. For some reason it just looks so much better in person. BTW...they do have a new wireless wheel now :). It doesn't look as nice as many of the nicer Fanatec wheels, but if someone doesn't like the cable the wireless option is now standard.

ya im waiting on my Fanatech cls dd also bought the new Moza just to see how the company is and their products.. so good to see all the new companies and the pricing being decent,,im upgrading from a thrustmaster tmx so im sure both the wheel bases will be epic..also waiting for Asetek pedals and thinking of getting Huesinveld ultimates...but first i need a rig....got any references really need a comfortable seat as i do 4hr stints at a time looking at the P1 sim lab..but may just build my own i am a construction maintenance worker after all,but convienence is a real thing ....thanks for the vid..cheers
I know from watching previous videos that Mike likes the wheel to feel on the lighter side and this is why CSL DD will provide him with enough force and detail.. however, if you like more force in the wheel while maintaining the level of details without clipping then a higher nm such as AF's 13nm should be a good balance.. some will even say that DD2's 25nm is the right force for them... at the end of the day, none of the options will make you faster, but if you choose the right one for your preference it will definitely make you enjoy racing more and have a better immersive experience
Why would you want 20NM or 25NM. I find the boost kit 8NM a bit much. To be fair it is my first wheel and it feels like I have been to the gym after using the GT DD Pro at 8NM. I ache all over.

I've had a Podium DD1 since they came out in 2019 and I don't even use half the 20Nm of torque. Once this one wears out, I'll probably go the CSL DD, or even the new Thrustmaster DD if it's half decent.
I am curious what they are planning with the Data port on the CSL DD I do wish Fanatec would provide a good shielded RJ cable with either the CSL DD wheel base or SQ Shifter. The products should be compatible, but the (H-pattern) shifter calibration can be a pain to get to work and the signal can be spotty. This is all due to not having a grounded rig, according to Fanatec. Well, I have a NLR wheelstand and no grounding. So whilst in H-pattern mode, it'll go digitally in & out of gear for a split seconds with decent frequency.
I would also add the cost between the two. The exclusive Accuforce V2 is PC but compatible with various sim racing equipment that cost a grip. I still run a modded Logitech G27 and modded Driving Force Pro with an emulator for the PS4 and PS5 so that is my fix for the PS platform. Great list of pros and cons, keep safe and maybe see you on the track one day.
Absolutely, but I didn’t want to mislead people. It’s not a factor in my personal decision because I was sent the CSL DD for a review. But you’re 100% correct that it’s a consideration for new purchases. Thanks for watching, and see you on track!
one good thing about the gt dd pro: it´s pc and ps compatible and it´s x box compatible if you use a x box compatible wheel (like your mclaren gt3 wheel) - 3 systems in one wheel base so you could sell your csl dd.
i had an eye on a fanatec csl dd for quite some time now and sometime in the future im definitely getting it, i currently have thrustmaster t150 + t3pa pedals + SHH shifter mounted on gt omega apex wheel stand. t150 is decent entry for newcomers in sim racing i have been using it for ~4-5 years now and it definitely feels very cheap and i think its time to step up, i was never huge fan of strong ffb so csl dd ticks boxes for me
i admit that i have never tried a wheel base stronger than the 8nm CSL DD but already playing with this for the last like 4-5 months its strong enough for me, i dont even have it at 100% in ACC, iRacing or AMS2, i am actually even below the recommendations by fanatec. In ACC for example they recommend 70%, i sit at 60, 65 tops. iRacing i also rather have the wheel a bit lighter than too heavy. Its never coming into the clipping zone, not even on the big sausage curbs. i dont wanna be exhausted after a 30-40min race, also i'd like the wheelbase to last at least 2-3 years.
To be honest the McLaren wheel from Fanatec is so good a button box that it makes custom solutions for the accuforce not worth it either in money (if you buy from any custom rim maker) or time if you do your own thing. I have a wheel project going for ages (ran out of steam) made out of varnished wood. It took me so long to get where it is at that I just use my fanatec rims anyway. I will finish it one day and it has more functionality for sure. With the caveat I need an external USB and need to buy a fanatec quick release.
People get caught up on the FFB but a DD is all about fidelity almost everyone I know run from 5 to 12nm and most of not all say 8 is a perfect sweet spot
The accuforce has plenty of Fidelity and WAY more adjustability. You can’t get anywhere close to the feeling of an accuforce with Fanatec on ACC or even iRacing without irffb.
@@Jpilgrim30 never said it didn't. Just pointing out the fact that you don't need to spend 2000-5000 to get a great DD. Besides 90 percent of what makes you a fast driver is in the pedals. I rather spend 1000$ on pedals then 2000$ for a wheel. The DD for 95 percent is more then enough to get a great experience. Accuforce is great but it's not necessary to get a great experience.
Well... I'm using full 15.6Nm of torque on my accuforce in AC all the time. I've set ingame ffb to 125% to achieve desired level of feedback but clipping occured often in long high speed corners without using extra 25% of peak torque which are disabled by default and limited to 13Nm. Perhaps I'm just used to lack of power steering in my real life racing experience or it's just the lack of g-forces ingame but with these settings car feels much more consistent. At least I can feel my front wheels linked to my steering wheel directly so I can finally drive instinctively. Of cource I also use internal sim commander feedback because default ffb by kunos is terribly slow, uninformative and simply crap. And that's the reason there is no real alternative to accuforce for assetto corsa right now.
I’ve only used a Simucube in a commercial setting, with background music, screaming kids, etc., so unfortunately I can’t say much about the noise of that unit. But the CSL DD is perfectly quiet. There aren’t any fans, so you can’t hear it even if you try
@@SimRacing604 Hey, thanks for quick reply! And ah, I see, the simucube 2 is passively cooled, so I presume it's fairly quiet, although I do wonder how much heat it kicks out with that extra torque! I reckon I'll go for the CSL DD, because it's like 1/3 the price of the simucube 2, won't require me to buy new wheel, and will integrate with my existing fanatec pedals without a massive chew on. Just hope I don't regret only having 8nm...
I hope Accuforce come up with something new and competitive in the same price point. I haven't owned Fanatec, but their marketing kind of $ucks. Do I need the booster kit for the Fanatec if I use a table clamp?
Yea, that’s correct. I don’t have the details on hand, but the pedals become lower resolution when you plug them into a PWT or CSR wheelbase rather than using a direct USB connection to your PC. There is no difference connecting to a CSL or CSW base.
I believe updates need to be done through PC. There’s a program that can be launched via the USB Game Controllers window that will allow you to update. But the DD Pro should ship with the latest firmware at the time of manufacture, and be compatible with PS right out of the box

Think ill be going with the accuforce. My cs v2.5 wheel always has to be re button mapped everytime i use my rig. Steering input is mapped to the throttle pedal every time and all my button mappings on the wheel have to be reset. Going to order the accuforce w/o the button box and go with external usb button box
I was pretty much left with the same impression. "Fanatec is shinier, and the wheel has a logo that impresses me". Saying there's no noticeable difference in the driving wheel, while the steering wheels are completely different - and skipping everything related to that - didn't seem a credible comparison.

For the DD range (DD/DD1/DD2) compatibility of the Fanatec system is in the wheel not the base. The CSL DD will work with PS4/5 with a PS compatible wheel. You are right about the McLaren wheel but not so much for the logo but the form-factor. Except for vintage racing, the McLaren wheel is a great all-rounder. I have a FormulaV2 and a CSW-RS but usually stick to the McLaren for everything - although I do recommend changing the quick release to QR1 above 5Nm.
The above is 100% false information. The truth is the exact opposite. For Playstation, the compatibility (i.e. the PS Security Chip) is in the BASE, not the wheel. You cannot make a non-PS compatible base work with PS by changing a wheel. For Xbox, it's the opposite - you only need a compatible wheel, and you can use any base with it. Even in the Podium DD1 F1 PS4 bundle, where they advertise the PS4 licensed wheel, the Playstation compatibility is actually in the base, not in the wheel. It's a special edition of the DD1 wheel base (with the PS Security chip), and you only can buy the bundle with the "PS4 licensed wheel" (which itself does not make any base PS compatible). AFAIK, Fanatec does not sell a DD1 standalone base with Playstation compatibility. For PS4/PS5, you NEED either DD Pro or DD1 PS4 F1 BUNDLE (Not standalone DD1)!
I have both wheels and race in gchallenge . The csl did is far better in fidelity. Csl is far more refined, accuforce is like someone’s garage project with an alibaba wheel.
This is such a deceiving video. You should mention these very annoying issues with fanatec. -QR is utter trash. It clicks, clangs, and knocks. -then inner shaft has play that will make an obvious knock at certain FF settings. -mclaren wheel is God awfull with rattling buttons and terrible shifters
Interesting, I have the McLaren V2 wheel, been over a yr of heavy use with no issues, oem QR is fine for this wheel, It did take some tuning to get it right, but it is my favorite wheel, the single paddle magnetic shifting is very precise, and allows one handed shifting What he didn't mention here is that lighter wheels can give better feedback, as there is less weight to dampen the FF effects, the McLaren wheel is very light indeed 🙂
@@NinetyTres I have it hard to believe, McLaren v2 buttons rattle and qr clicks or the shaft clicks, at higher FFB levels. Only way you don't hear this is if you maybe wear headphones. But clunking is obvious and felt through hands as well. Not to mention that my csl DD just decided to die for no reason. Then went the Simagic Alpha Mini route, and this base and wheel is about 5x better quality and feel, in literally everything. Like, not in same category. Can't say enough praise on it.
I have to ask what is the problem with the shifters I know they are loud but honestly have gotten used to the noise. Only think I know that bothers most people is one piece of metal joining both up and down shifts
@@joei4ever Seems to me like you might be doing something wrong or have abused your gear. The buttons could be a little quieter but they aren’t bad. You are expecting too much out of one the cheapest wheels on the market that also has some of the best features and ergonomics on the market. I don’t use headphones and haven’t had these issues with a CSW 2.5 or even with a DD2.
I hate Fanatec as a company with a passion. When you buy their wheel it kinda locks you into their ecosystem. I know you can buy Fanatec Hub / adapter to use other wheels. With their DD 0.5, claiming it cost only 350 EUR is marketing at it's best/worst. You buy boost kit and a wheel and you are at ~800EUR. And then you need pedals. And their pedals are shit. When they released V3, they were probably very good but now? There are much better 400-600 EUR pedals out there. When buying simracing equipment, being into hobby many years, it's better to save for a couple of months and buy better stuff. The most important is Rig. My Gt Omega ART was my biggest mistake I ever made.
How does it lock you into their ecosystem?! Kind of like EVEYONE else?! You are not forced to use their pedals, shifter, hand break, etc. Like with any other company's products, you can mix and match! I agree about the CSL DD not coming standard with the boost. That is a PURE cash grab, for sure! That said, even the standard 5nm CSL DD is FAR superior to anything below it! Much better than anything from Thrustmaster currently and even much better than the previous Fanatec belt driven bases. The CSL DD stanard is, without a doubt, the best deal out there for an entry level direct drive wheel base. And as far as the Fanatec pedals go, even the CSL pedals are better than the Thrustmasters. And the V3's are still pretty good, especially if you add the performance kit. I suppose I just don't understand the hate! On a final note, I would diagree with you about the rig being the most important thing. I do agree that a quality rig is higher up on the list for sure. But, the MOST important thing BY FAR, is a good set of pedals, hands down!!! That said, cheers and happy racing!
CSv3 Pedals are still good nowadays, they don't stop being good because something else came out. I agree there is better stuff out there for the price but to be honest mine mine are good enough since I bought them and I feel like I don't need anything else unless I try to get super serious. Then at that point I guess it stops being a hobby.
I did a lot of research and decided on Fanatec. I upgraded from Logitech. I use a McLaren wheel, V3 pedals and a CSL DD. Never had a problem and when I reached out to service for a stupid newbie question they helped me sort it out. You can mix and match anything with Fanatec. Not sure how you think you are "Locked In"

@@cmbaileytstc I would agree that Logitech wheels can feel strong. But going from a Logitech to a belt driven or direct driven wheel does feel amazing, crisp and detailed. You don't realise until you try.
A very informative video, Mike. Thanks for answering the question. When upgrading from non-FFB Logitech in 2011, I decided to pursue the then-still-young Fanatec route. I used my CSR wheel until November 2021 and it still performs flawlessly.. so well engineered. I decided to upgrade to the CSL DD and ordered it pre-launch. I cannot be happier. I much prefer a lighter FFB as I feel the finer nuances much more clearly, so I have FFB set at between 60 and 80% in game (in RF2 as low as 40% for formula cars). It is the perfect wheel for me.

Another thing that wasn't mentioned (probably been mentioned by someone else but didn't feel like reading thru all the comments) is being able to change wheelbase settings on-the-fly, for me personally is a massive 'PRO'!
I have a AF V2 Pro, I take the wheel off when I'm done each session, when I turn it on (switched power bar) I leave the wheel off and let it calibrate then I put the wheel on, saves the cable getting stuck at calibration and ripping the ends off. Agreed, the control box power supply fan is VERY noisy, but since I race in VR, I don't hear it once I have the headset on. :)
A while back (a year or so) the sim commander software came out with a new feature of loading FF profiles from the cloud, this is a amazing feature which made me love my wheel that much more since I hated trying to get the wheel dialed in with the wild amount of settings in the software. I have a bad left shoulder, so I turn down the FF strength a bit but even then, I feel all the little details of any given track or car, I love this wheel! LOL :)
Sim Commander and the cloud profiles are just fantastic. Not enough can be said about that software. Even if you don't get 100% feel you like it gets you to a great starting point.
If you have CSL DD Pro (PS version) and you plug that McLaren rim in it (or any Xbox rim), it will become Xbox Compatible. Because chip for Xbox compatibility is in rim not base. So it makes it one of few wheel bases which is compatible with Xbox, PC and PS. That is why I own it :)
That’s one major thing, why Fanatec are the best. The only ones that do that. Fanatec it’s so ahead of every other simulation hardware company. A lot of PC people are in denial. All of these comoanies, accuforce, simcube, monza ect…are good but not even close to Fanatec as a complete package.
I have the DD PRO since I needed the compatibility for PS5 and XSX and it’s amazing. I have the 5nm version, without load cell pedals and it’s more than enough for me. Plus I know I’m future proof when I buy a new PC.
@@Bombichote1 how is a PC more future proof than a console, it's just about the same, a PS console could last for 10 years for a generation, you'll get unlimited choice of game until it gets unsupported, while for PC you'll have to upgrade after 5 years or more (atleast 400$ for just GPU), you'll spend more for CPU (don't want any bottlenecks), maybe a better RAM, don't forget faster and more spacious SSD, and a new motherboard while at it, a case too? your PC is not that futureproof
Tbh you would have liked fanatecs dd wheel in genrral from 8 to 20nm. I do also something anout the delivery and the polished cleaner feel.
The cs dd pro feels fantastic and for me the new dd/dd+ feel awesome. I did get the 15nm dd+ and so happy i did. Super controlled super good weight insane center torwue helps me feel grip always feels grounded and wsy less understeeer feeling compared to other bases i use so i always feel like im cornering perfectly. Pretty insane
The csl dd pro 8nm is just a powerful 8nm base.
I have wireless Accuforce wheel now. So there's that covered.
Also Simcommander walks all over Fanatec for feel and seat of pants effect. Simcommander is what makes the FFB come alive
I thought about getting that wireless wheel from AccuForce, but seems a little on the expensive side when bought separate, but I am a cheap :). I am always reluctant on Fanatec as I own the Clubsport V3 and the software and firmware have been less than stellar. Not uncommon for me to start a race, and my pedals don't work. I have to exit games and recalibrate constantly.
I actually prefer the look of the CSL DD but that is mainly due to the shape and overall height/width/depth physical size. I like that the metal fins like a heatsink actually have a practical application that allows it to be a small cube size, and not require any cooling fans (that will eventually need to be replaced).
I also have no problems with the way it looks, but honestly I don't really care, as long as it works well. :-)
I think it looks good as well (I also like the similar look of the Moza R9). However, to be fair the AccuForce looks much better in person than in pictures and videos for some reason.
Switched from a 2012 FANATEC CSR Wheel yesterday to the GT DD Pro and the Clubsport v3 pedals yesterday. This is like a whole new level. CSR Wheel is still fine, event though a bit worn out after almost 10 years. Thanks for the video!

DD Pro is PC and PS5/PS4, CSL DD is PC and XBox, so either way you are stuck with one console.
i got a CSL DD because the PS5 is still not delivering 120fps in gran turismo 7, but maybe the Pro version of the PS5 will, though i hope by then it will also come to PC.
@@th3orist CSL DD Pro should work with XBox also, if you have the correct wheel. XBox compatibility is always in the wheel with Fanatec, not the base.

Hi Mike, love your videos. I've wanted to see this comparo for a while. I have to take issue with you on the title of the video - the Accuforce is 16Nm peak, not 13. 13 is the sustained torque. That makes the Accuforce twice or 100% more powerful than the CSL DD. Pretty misleading, although i'm sure not intentional.
I agree the fan is quite annoying. A replacement inaudible fan from Noctua is about $20 on amazon, and it's about a 5 minute job to swap. Obviously this could in theory be used to void your warranty. I ran mine fanless for a week or so - it barely got warm to the touch.
Replacement 3ft cables are online for about $25 for 3. I ripped out my original cable like you by switching on the wheel when it was already turned. I bought a 3 pack of cables a year ago but haven't needed more than one. I'd rather this than risk the crappy pins of the fanatec breaking and needing a warranty return, what with Fanatec's shipping reputation.
Something that does annoy me about accuforce is that they've taken the user to user support forums offline. They obviously couldn't be bothered with monitoring them. There was a lot of useful info there that just went poof.
Overall there's no way i'd switch the AF for a CSLDD unless there was a significant improvement in the clarify of FF - it sounds like there isn't. The hardware including button box and paddles are rock solid and durable, and the QR is motorsports grade. I think the only thing i'd upgrade to is a simucube. Still waiting on the lottery win!
There is nothing inherently wrong with the Fanatec pins. It takes negligence to damage them just like the cable on other wheels but it’s much easier to make a mistake that damages the cable whereas if you take 2 seconds to correctly line up and secure the Fanatec rim and not just slam it on you will never have an issue. In around a decade of using Fanatec gear I have never had an issue with pins. That being said I would like to try a Simucube someday.
@11:24 I don’t know, I think CSL dd looks very good n’ compact, I like the looks more than the dd podium because aesthetically it fits right in with black aluminum extrusion rigs. To each it’s own though.

Hi there. Long time sub here. I bought my Accuforce around 2018 or so but the rest of my gear is Fanatec (Shifter/Handbrake and CSv3 pedals). Lately I've been getting into retro racing games which most of the time only allow 1 usb device to control the game so this is making move to a CSL DD. Don't get me wrong I love the FFB on the Accuforce but the convenience of Fanatec's ecosystem cannot be understated.

What did you do? I was using a TS-PC which I preferred to Fanatec's belt drive wheels, the CSL DD 8Nm is nice tho', I've only used a couple of DD1's and I much prefer the CSL DD. I do use it with a very light wheel tho, 200 grams lighter than the McLaren, helps with rotational speed and everything else really.

Hi Mike! Great video - and particularly pertinent for me at the moment! I am currently evaluating switching from my AccuForce Pro V2 to either a Fanatec DD1 or the CSL. At this point the DD1 will probably win as I prefer the wheel selection and the DD1's look. I, like you, do not really chase the peak nm performance - I am more about the detail and the response of the wheel base than it's strength.
A big factor for me, is that almost every game you see these days has sponsorship from Fanatec meaning that support for it's wheels are going to be great straight out of the box for most simulators. This is a big deal for me, as I don't have the time for endless tweaking - I just want to jump in and immerse myself in a fun race whenever I can find the time.

An Ï Agree" video. I use the CSL DD and McLaren wheel too. I have the upgraded quick release on it though. The ugly box doesnt worry me as you cant see it really and it is quiet. It fits much better between a rig and free standing monitor stand.
Great review. Your comments for both wheels are legit. My only hesitation is that the accuforce design is more than three years old. I can only imagine what an accuforce 3 could be. What potential!! While I recognize that there are global supply chain issues, I wish they would lay out a product roadmap. Moreover, it would make me feel better that they had future hardware plans so that I could be comfortable about the long-term prospects for the terrific software.

SimExperience is a small American company in an environment that makes it tough to compete (mass production, overseas generic production, crazy marketing budgets). It would be great to support them. As you said, the AF2 is long in the tooth so maybe they can be encouraged to talk about the future so people have something to look forward to.
To avoid any claim of being a SimXperience fanboy, I own a DD2 and a CSL DD, although I will soon be the owner of a Gseat and Gbelt from Sim Experience. I don’t own the AF2.
I’ve had the McLaren V1 for a handful of years, it’s a great rim but I absolutely hated the rocker paddle shifter and I bought paddle shifters from sim racing machines. I find them so much more comfortable and it now has a satisfying click when shifting. The other added bonuses of no more double shifts and having to spray compressed air every week to move dust from the sensors to help prevent double shifts.
How would you compare the ffb fidelity, smoothness and response time? Overall driving performance?

I went with a Simagic Alpha instead of an Alpha Mini because I could afford the extra cost and by going with a little more power I feel like it "future proofs" the wheelbase a little more - and by that I mean as computing power increases and more and more detailed feedback is added to sims, the wheelbase will have room to take advantage of these advances without perhaps one day maxing out. My theory anyway. 😀👍🏁

A couple notes I have on this video. You could look into getting a PCI-E internal USB card to add more ports to your system. Something you can do on the cheap, is plug light use peripherals into a USB hub. Things like mouse and keyboard dont need much bandwidth and would be fine plugged into a hub. Some keyboards even have a USB hub built into them, so you can plug your mouse directly into that.
As far as wheel pins, I have 4 different rims. In my years of using a CSW 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5, I have yet to bend or break any pins. Maybe because I'm careful about lining up , and I dont release the collar until it is firmly attached. Not sure.
Great video as always. One thing that doesn't seem to come through on pictures or videos when it comes to the AccuForce is its appearance. For some reason it just looks so much better in person. BTW...they do have a new wireless wheel now :). It doesn't look as nice as many of the nicer Fanatec wheels, but if someone doesn't like the cable the wireless option is now standard.

I know from watching previous videos that Mike likes the wheel to feel on the lighter side and this is why CSL DD will provide him with enough force and detail.. however, if you like more force in the wheel while maintaining the level of details without clipping then a higher nm such as AF's 13nm should be a good balance.. some will even say that DD2's 25nm is the right force for them... at the end of the day, none of the options will make you faster, but if you choose the right one for your preference it will definitely make you enjoy racing more and have a better immersive experience

Why would you want 20NM or 25NM. I find the boost kit 8NM a bit much. To be fair it is my first wheel and it feels like I have been to the gym after using the GT DD Pro at 8NM. I ache all over.

I've had a Podium DD1 since they came out in 2019 and I don't even use half the 20Nm of torque. Once this one wears out, I'll probably go the CSL DD, or even the new Thrustmaster DD if it's half decent.
I am curious what they are planning with the Data port on the CSL DD
I do wish Fanatec would provide a good shielded RJ cable with either the CSL DD wheel base or SQ Shifter. The products should be compatible, but the (H-pattern) shifter calibration can be a pain to get to work and the signal can be spotty. This is all due to not having a grounded rig, according to Fanatec.
Well, I have a NLR wheelstand and no grounding. So whilst in H-pattern mode, it'll go digitally in & out of gear for a split seconds with decent frequency.
I would also add the cost between the two. The exclusive Accuforce V2 is PC but compatible with various sim racing equipment that cost a grip. I still run a modded Logitech G27 and modded Driving Force Pro with an emulator for the PS4 and PS5 so that is my fix for the PS platform. Great list of pros and cons, keep safe and maybe see you on the track one day.
Absolutely, but I didn’t want to mislead people. It’s not a factor in my personal decision because I was sent the CSL DD for a review. But you’re 100% correct that it’s a consideration for new purchases.

i had an eye on a fanatec csl dd for quite some time now and sometime in the future im definitely getting it, i currently have thrustmaster t150 + t3pa pedals + SHH shifter mounted on gt omega apex wheel stand. t150 is decent entry for newcomers in sim racing i have been using it for ~4-5 years now and it definitely feels very cheap and i think its time to step up, i was never huge fan of strong ffb so csl dd ticks boxes for me

i admit that i have never tried a wheel base stronger than the 8nm CSL DD but already playing with this for the last like 4-5 months its strong enough for me, i dont even have it at 100% in ACC, iRacing or AMS2, i am actually even below the recommendations by fanatec. In ACC for example they recommend 70%, i sit at 60, 65 tops. iRacing i also rather have the wheel a bit lighter than too heavy. Its never coming into the clipping zone, not even on the big sausage curbs.
i dont wanna be exhausted after a 30-40min race, also i'd like the wheelbase to last at least 2-3 years.
I actually like the look of the CLS DD.

To be honest the McLaren wheel from Fanatec is so good a button box that it makes custom solutions for the accuforce not worth it either in money (if you buy from any custom rim maker) or time if you do your own thing. I have a wheel project going for ages (ran out of steam) made out of varnished wood. It took me so long to get where it is at that I just use my fanatec rims anyway. I will finish it one day and it has more functionality for sure. With the caveat I need an external USB and need to buy a fanatec quick release.

Got tired of the Fanatec RMA game and being without during the process. Also, accuforce has a new Bluetooth button box now.
People get caught up on the FFB but a DD is all about fidelity almost everyone I know run from 5 to 12nm and most of not all say 8 is a perfect sweet spot
The accuforce has plenty of Fidelity and WAY more adjustability. You can’t get anywhere close to the feeling of an accuforce with Fanatec on ACC or even iRacing without irffb.
@@Jpilgrim30 never said it didn't. Just pointing out the fact that you don't need to spend 2000-5000 to get a great DD. Besides 90 percent of what makes you a fast driver is in the pedals. I rather spend 1000$ on pedals then 2000$ for a wheel. The DD for 95 percent is more then enough to get a great experience. Accuforce is great but it's not necessary to get a great experience.
Well... I'm using full 15.6Nm of torque on my accuforce in AC all the time. I've set ingame ffb to 125% to achieve desired level of feedback but clipping occured often in long high speed corners without using extra 25% of peak torque which are disabled by default and limited to 13Nm. Perhaps I'm just used to lack of power steering in my real life racing experience or it's just the lack of g-forces ingame but with these settings car feels much more consistent. At least I can feel my front wheels linked to my steering wheel directly so I can finally drive instinctively. Of cource I also use internal sim commander feedback because default ffb by kunos is terribly slow, uninformative and simply crap. And that's the reason there is no real alternative to accuforce for assetto corsa right now.

Have you used a simucube 2? If so, could you comment on how it's noise compares to the CSL DD? I have a CSW 2.5, and the fan noise drives me INSANE!
I’ve only used a Simucube in a commercial setting, with background music, screaming kids, etc., so unfortunately I can’t say much about the noise of that unit. But the CSL DD is perfectly quiet. There aren’t any fans, so you can’t hear it even if you try

I reckon I'll go for the CSL DD, because it's like 1/3 the price of the simucube 2, won't require me to buy new wheel, and will integrate with my existing fanatec pedals without a massive chew on. Just hope I don't regret only having 8nm...

It’s kind of the other way around. If you’re using a table clamp less power would probably be better. So don’t get the boost kit
You can get it with or without. Just adjust the strength of the ffb accordingly once you clamp it to your table...
Mike, question. When you plug the pedals to the DD, does it still lose some bits on the pedals like in the old csl base?
Yea, that’s correct. I don’t have the details on hand, but the pedals become lower resolution when you plug them into a PWT or CSR wheelbase rather than using a direct USB connection to your PC. There is no difference connecting to a CSL or CSW base.

Can you talk about the updates to the DD Pro ? Do you need to update when using it with ps4/ps5 ?
I believe updates need to be done through PC. There’s a program that can be launched via the USB Game Controllers window that will allow you to update. But the DD Pro should ship with the latest firmware at the time of manufacture, and be compatible with PS right out of the box

I haven't found such walk-through info for a consul user. So it's difficult to know what's relevant when most on YT don't address these early setup queries. The issue of firmware updates is left in the ether for noobs with consuls. What's left for the noob is, is firmware update relevant to me !?

Think ill be going with the accuforce. My cs v2.5 wheel always has to be re button mapped everytime i use my rig. Steering input is mapped to the throttle pedal every time and all my button mappings on the wheel have to be reset. Going to order the accuforce w/o the button box and go with external usb button box

The GT Pro DD is compatible with PS AND Xbox.
If it annoyed me that much, I'd be getting a quieter fan.
For the DD range (DD/DD1/DD2) compatibility of the Fanatec system is in the wheel not the base. The CSL DD will work with PS4/5 with a PS compatible wheel.
You are right about the McLaren wheel but not so much for the logo but the form-factor. Except for vintage racing, the McLaren wheel is a great all-rounder. I have a FormulaV2 and a CSW-RS but usually stick to the McLaren for everything - although I do recommend changing the quick release to QR1 above 5Nm.
The above is 100% false information. The truth is the exact opposite. For Playstation, the compatibility (i.e. the PS Security Chip) is in the BASE, not the wheel. You cannot make a non-PS compatible base work with PS by changing a wheel. For Xbox, it's the opposite - you only need a compatible wheel, and you can use any base with it.
Even in the Podium DD1 F1 PS4 bundle, where they advertise the PS4 licensed wheel, the Playstation compatibility is actually in the base, not in the wheel. It's a special edition of the DD1 wheel base (with the PS Security chip), and you only can buy the bundle with the "PS4 licensed wheel" (which itself does not make any base PS compatible). AFAIK, Fanatec does not sell a DD1 standalone base with Playstation compatibility.
For PS4/PS5, you NEED either DD Pro or DD1 PS4 F1 BUNDLE (Not standalone DD1)!

I have both wheels and race in gchallenge . The csl did is far better in fidelity. Csl is far more refined, accuforce is like someone’s garage project with an alibaba wheel.

You should mention these very annoying issues with fanatec.
-QR is utter trash. It clicks, clangs, and knocks.
-then inner shaft has play that will make an obvious knock at certain FF settings.
-mclaren wheel is God awfull with rattling buttons and terrible shifters
Interesting, I have the McLaren V2 wheel, been over a yr of heavy use with no issues, oem QR is fine for this wheel,
It did take some tuning to get it right, but it is my favorite wheel, the single paddle magnetic shifting is very precise, and allows one handed shifting
What he didn't mention here is that lighter wheels can give better feedback, as there is less weight to dampen the FF effects, the McLaren wheel is very light indeed

@@NinetyTres I have it hard to believe, McLaren v2 buttons rattle and qr clicks or the shaft clicks, at higher FFB levels. Only way you don't hear this is if you maybe wear headphones. But clunking is obvious and felt through hands as well.
Not to mention that my csl DD just decided to die for no reason.
Then went the Simagic Alpha Mini route, and this base and wheel is about 5x better quality and feel, in literally everything. Like, not in same category. Can't say enough praise on it.
I have to ask what is the problem with the shifters I know they are loud but honestly have gotten used to the noise. Only think I know that bothers most people is one piece of metal joining both up and down shifts

@@joei4ever Seems to me like you might be doing something wrong or have abused your gear. The buttons could be a little quieter but they aren’t bad. You are expecting too much out of one the cheapest wheels on the market that also has some of the best features and ergonomics on the market. I don’t use headphones and haven’t had these issues with a CSW 2.5 or even with a DD2.

I hate Fanatec as a company with a passion. When you buy their wheel it kinda locks you into their ecosystem. I know you can buy Fanatec Hub / adapter to use other wheels. With their DD 0.5, claiming it cost only 350 EUR is marketing at it's best/worst. You buy boost kit and a wheel and you are at ~800EUR. And then you need pedals. And their pedals are shit. When they released V3, they were probably very good but now? There are much better 400-600 EUR pedals out there. When buying simracing equipment, being into hobby many years, it's better to save for a couple of months and buy better stuff. The most important is Rig. My Gt Omega ART was my biggest mistake I ever made.
You don’t have to use Fanatec pedals with their wheel bases. I’ve got Heusinkveld sprints with mine.
How does it lock you into their ecosystem?! Kind of like EVEYONE else?! You are not forced to use their pedals, shifter, hand break, etc. Like with any other company's products, you can mix and match! I agree about the CSL DD not coming standard with the boost. That is a PURE cash grab, for sure! That said, even the standard 5nm CSL DD is FAR superior to anything below it! Much better than anything from Thrustmaster currently and even much better than the previous Fanatec belt driven bases. The CSL DD stanard is, without a doubt, the best deal out there for an entry level direct drive wheel base. And as far as the Fanatec pedals go, even the CSL pedals are better than the Thrustmasters. And the V3's are still pretty good, especially if you add the performance kit. I suppose I just don't understand the hate! On a final note, I would diagree with you about the rig being the most important thing. I do agree that a quality rig is higher up on the list for sure. But, the MOST important thing BY FAR, is a good set of pedals, hands down!!! That said, cheers and happy racing!

CSv3 Pedals are still good nowadays, they don't stop being good because something else came out. I agree there is better stuff out there for the price but to be honest mine mine are good enough since I bought them and I feel like I don't need anything else unless I try to get super serious. Then at that point I guess it stops being a hobby.
I did a lot of research and decided on Fanatec. I upgraded from Logitech. I use a McLaren wheel, V3 pedals and a CSL DD. Never had a problem and when I reached out to service for a stupid newbie question they helped me sort it out. You can mix and match anything with Fanatec. Not sure how you think you are "Locked In"
