The writers wanted Marco to flirt with both adult women and teenage girls. They tried to have their cake and eat it too, which ended up making all his ships uncomfortable and borderline criminal.
You summarized my feelings so well. Its giving wanting to make the average everyman a ladies man then realizing later that 'hey if we want him an hecapoo to work we're gonna have to age him up right" then they do that, THEN they realize they have to undo it but WAIT if they undo it it would undo that relationships development So lets have him remember BUT THEN HES MENTALLY THIRTY 😭
I wouldn't say adult women. Just just the one, Hekapoo. But that ultimately means nothing because they wanted Starco to be endgame; so they wasted everyone's time with this all this.
Yeah i think if Marco lost his memories of those years as well and only got them back when he was on her world or something since that would have made it a little less creepy as he woudnt be mentally like 30 in most cases at least
It was heavily implied they either dated or were FWB. The amount of sexual tension the two shared in almost every scene they had together was definitely not a coincidence.
They went full ship-mode, Never go full ship mode. Ships in shows are an ideal side dish (to complement the story) or a dessert (to wrap things off with a bow) They are NOT and SHOULD NOT be the main course
Makes me wonder who this show was even made for. This is supposedly a kids' show (albeit older kids, but still), so I doubt they would be invested in all of that shipping drama.
@@michaelstrong5383 Oh I assure you, as a huge fan of the show when it aired (who was in the target demo) the shipping was HUGE part of the fandom. So much shipping discourse. Which, in it of itself, isn't a bad thing. But when the writers see that popularity and intentionally steer the show away from the plot and towards shipping, THAT'S when you start getting into trouble. Doesn't help that Star Vs, was semi-serialized. It'd be one thing if it was a mostly episodic show, but the show was trying to juggle racism allegories, and corrupt monarchy storylines, AND a coming of age story all at the same time. The more the show prioritized shipping, the more it muddied it's themes.
This! So much of this! Also they failed the last two seasons theme of "end racism" too since it was no longer about Star being the foreign exchange student and it just work the other way round with Marco!
What weirds me out is even after that episode they bring up several times how he’s technically an adult. In the episode where his parents realize they don’t know much about their son, they think his age is 15-16 but both Star and Marco say he’s in his 30s. So even Star, the teenage girl he ends up with, sees him as being a 30-year-old.
He's too young for Hekapoo because he functions as a teenager and he met her as a teenager, and too old for every other girl because he has the memories and experiences of a grown ass man who identities as an adult in a child's body. How did they mess up so bad. Like realistically Marco should have stopped being attracted to kids after his time in the other dimension.... Unless he's huh.... A whole other kind of problem.
@@zoeb3573I see what you mean in his changing of prefernce but he isn't into kids, he's into teenagers and since they're a weird middle state of physically mature and immature, I'd would give some slack for that. More pay attention that Marco cares about the importance of functional consent.(which from what've i gotten he does)
It is borderline creepy how he confesses to star before they kiss that 'i'm not a kid anymore' just leaves a horrible taste that ruins the whole seris altogethor and also i imagined star and marco breaking up in a toxic relationship they have in season 5 if they have an sctual writing team this time?.
Yeah Marco shouldn't even be interested in Star or Jackie because of his own adult brain. He has a mind of an adult now. I guess the writers thought that it'll be weird to see him taking interest with adult women in his teenager body. This dumb force shipping ruined the entire series.
I always found Marco's chemistry with his new dimensional scissors adorable, like they never really left his side through thick and thin! So I personally ship Marco x Dimensional Scissors-chan. Scissors are basically just weird pliers so I dubbed their ship MarcoPlier.
@@ItalianPokeMage Star Butterfly is basically the happy go lucky character done wrong because she's not even that good of a person she murder innocent creatures treat her friends like trash
The funny thing is that there was an easy fix for the Star x Marco age gap: just have Star spend 16 years in the Hekapoo dimension without Marco. She could be training to master her magic for a big boss fight, so she asks Marco to wait on Earth/Mewni and come get her in 8 minutes. After said 8 minutes have passed, he comes in to find her also in her 30's, so now they're both the same age physically and mentally.
this would fix a lot, but its still weird to be attracted to a 16 year old body....but i could see it other way would be making a plot about Marco not being able to go back to normal life, so he gets his memories sealed in some object that he can put on to unlock them, meaning its basically a power up you could also make him like Heka more than star when he has the object on
Or just... Just lock the mental experience of being older than 16 and keep most of the physical experience. Like he intuitively knows how to ride a bike/sword (muscle memory, reflexes, ect), but doesn't remember the circumstances behind his training. He can recognize faces of those he crossed paths with on his journey, but not their backstory
Idk if this matters but to me it was my understanding that while he remembers everything that he did, his body de-aged including his brain which can be seen a bit in how he goes back to acting normal. There is a slight difference between his adult and teenage behavior. It's a grey area for morals because honestly as much as we want to treat it as a certain fact in our society, the concept of what can be called an adult is a grey area in and of itself. We all agree that a 19-year-old legally is an adult but I still see even that as a youth still learning and figuring out things. 18 years is just the current most commonly (but not universally) accepted age where a person deserves agency over their own life at that point. If we was to wait until everyone has a fully developed brain then it would be currently the age of 26. A time where many done have a place, a career and kids of their own, less then just a bit ago but that's because of a culture and economic change. So if Marco has a 14-year-olds brain but 30 years of experience is he a kid or a adult? If experience matters does this mean that legal adults with no experience because of anything from being in a coma for years to simply being unable to have any meaningful life experiences to grow don't count as adults? It only gets more complicated in anime where you have races that can live for thousands of years and its debatable of what the equal to child is, if it even applies to them as a concept because they may just be born developed.
Did you write one for the age difference between Marco and the other girls? Because dress it up as much as you like, he's a grown ass man pretending to be a teenager after the adventure with Hekapoo.
I think instead of trying to ignore it whilst also bringing it up all the time or just forgetting it entirely, they should have leaned fully into it and had him realize over the course of the season that he can't go back or relate to who he was anymore and fully decide to be the man he is and just become a full time adventurer shipped with Heka. People expected Marco and Star but sometimes life takes you in wildly different directions and if they could have all hung out as a team fighting evil (and Heck wasn't ruined) it could have still worked.
I'm just gonna say it. Marco and Star have 0 romantic chemistry and should have stayed friends (Marco doesn't have any real romantic chemistry with anyone besides maybe Tom and I guess heckapoo?? But that relationship is still weird)
@@juicebox7372 I felt as though it went towards the direction of either Kelly (given the adventuring between them liking it could've made sense). Or even Jackie if they done the writing in a way for her being his anchor to earth. She was his first crush and technically the one to have him see himself in a more better light. As elliepira8400 stated it best, life can take you into wild directions and varying paths than what's presented. I felt that Kelly can be the one to help with acclimating him for Mewni/other lands. Whilst Jackie can be the one to perform the same with her broad perspective and patience for earth. All in all, its sad how a show with a pretty solid foundation to build from has such a cumbersome built on top of it.
Da, I completely agree with thou. I actually think this would have been a way better tale then what the show actually did. . . It would have been really interesting to see Marco realize that despite returning to his own world to his younger body, he will always still be mentally 30, being lost in direction, into a labyrinth of sounds and smells, misdirection, and misfortune, trying to find what to do since he wasn’t who he was. . . And who was now, is someone in another world, as he had many tales to tell, to which is just something he can’t backtrack from, and that is fine. He could have returned to what he knew now, instead of what he once knew then, and continue on his journey and adventure as a now a man in another world, recognized by the dimension keeper and sticking with her, and though she has several problems (from little to being a quirky troll to as large as supporting monster racism), if the show new have to address these instead of “destroy the magic”, then mayhaps she could have been a better self. . . And if done correctly, mayhaps a flower could have bloomed between Marco and Heckapoo. . .
@@JustEverton it could have! It could've been a trailblazer with something new, a little like some other older "classic" shows & their arcs! Execs tend not to wanna take the chance tho 😅
The first 30 seconds are hilarious because it summarizes every supernatural teen novel in existence. "Why all these immortals/people who look like teens but are actually ___ dating actual teens", ah teen novels are wild when you look back as an adult.
Because they are actually teens, who'd been that age hundreds time over. Immortals don't exist, and there is no way to study how staying in the body and mind of a teenager would affect someone's personality, so this type of thing usually falls into being a part of character background(unless emphasized otherwise). This might give context to the story, but doesn't really influence their personality or relationship with people around them any more than a very colorful life someone that age might have had.
@nemodra4790 while I do agree with your general assessment of the genre, it doesn't apply to all of them as we see with Marco - - he legit acts like a teen until he's with heckaboo, there are books where the characters have adult minds and then there are books like twilight where the only logical explanation is he legit has the brain of a teenager. I love the concept of immortality of a teenager keeping them a teenager, it brings up a lot of interesting questions about the brain - - but then many vampire stories don't go that route, such as Anne Rice novels where they absolutely age mentally. While I loathe the game league of legends, I've recently dived into the lore due to the show arcane and the character of Vladimir is such a great take on immortality because his brain is still that of a human so he forgets his past as the centuries go on and must create art to vaguely remember bits and pieces. Thanks for responding, legit gave me some reflection of fiction in general and I always love overanalyzing content One final thought I have is that's what makes fiction fun, immortality doesn't exist so we can experiment with concepts, theories and ideas and if wouldn't affect anything because it's an impossibility, at least with our current knowledge (and frankly it should stay that way)
best part was/is and SC said it, he DOES remember all of that...aaaaaaaand he's dating a 15ish year old magical girl... and they say anime is creepy xD Also, Hekapoo and Marco dated... Heka said to Kelly "welcome to the club" when she got dump btw episodes
@@audreyharris7643I think the creators never wanted them to date. They only did it to create more Starco drama and angst. Once the relationship served its purpose, they wrote the whole thing off to get back to more Starco.
@@erfanthered9801don't they have a toxic relationship that not their couple council counselor starco the toxic( a demon spawn that is star and marco sliced in half and crudely sewn togethor) could not fix and star tries yo destroy the universe again merely because of the break up oh and star kills a corrupted jackie without remorse?.
They should've gone the Adventure Time Pillow World method. Could've had Hekapoo cheekily reference stuff Marco faintly remembered, heck, she could've made stuff up to mess with him. (And she would've). Could've had random OP skills thanks to muscle memory. Star, confused: "Where'd you learn THAT?!" Marco, even more confused standing on top of a pile of defeated enemies TF2 Meet the Doctor style: "I have NO idea!" (Honestly it's been awhile so that scene might've actually happened... Kinda feels like it) Also, 100% Mina should've ended up crushed by architecture. She was WORSE than Toffee and she got to walk away. He was a better villain and character overall, he had valid gripes and he wasn't a feral Sailor Moon ripoff that couldn't keep track of her shoes. She was just a mess, like the finale
I was especially confused when Moon apologized to Mina after all of it. She's a genocidal fascist that forced ya'll to destroy magic. Why tf was anyone even attempting to extend her a hand.
@ For a bride that an holy amalgamation of souls. Pretty much the most bizarre and horrifying creature to exist. Way beyond the angels of heaven themselves and the creatures that live on the earth.
There's nothing wrong with mortal x immortal romance. The issue comes when they have the immortal fall in love with the mortal _when they're just a child._ I really love this trope as when it is done right, it has the perfect blend of wholesomeness and tragedy. An immortal who has been alone for centuries finally finding happiness in someone who's destined to leave them is the perfect amount of bittersweetness. Like Hohenheim and Trisha from FMA. But when it's done poorly, it's the biggest bag of garbage you'll ever see.
I essentially called Marco's situation the "Mai Effect" from Dragon Ball Z/Super. Someone whose physical age matches the one whom they can be shipped/ be in a relationship with; however, the mental age makes the interaction be viewed not so good. Should X character get together with the person whom their physical age matches to (ex: Star and co) or should they be matched with one who is mentally the age they are matched to (H-poo or close to the looking 30+ type) and that leads to being placed in what I call the "Double negative zone". "Damned if you do, Damned if you don't"
I think it only works in Super cuz it's shown to be pretty one-sided. She's only shown interest in adult Trunks, not his child self. Meanwhile Marco is out here with the mind of a 30 year old still finding teenage girls attractive.
@valentinkambushev4968 The guy who's divine job is to be a destroyer of worlds is being left to babysit. It's like if Reed Richards invited Galactus to bingo night

I feel like what they should have done was split adult Marco and kid Marco into two characters. Have Marco be split in two in the beginning of the magical scissor episode (by having him walk into one entrance portal and walk out of two exit portals I dunno). Have one clone be put in stasis whilst the other experiences the episode as normal. At the end, have the adult clone hand over the scissors and frozen clone to star. This way we can have our cake and eat it too. Maybe have the adult mark stays with heckapoo, maybe he turns into a villain when heckapoo does but maybe gets redeemed. He could have been a whole new character that could be all the worst traits of Marco personified. All at the same time we sidestep all the age difference problems.
I was with you after that first sentence you lost me 🤣 I could see them do something magical to separate the two in a episode after the initial one. Maybe make it that Adult Marco gets to keep most of his magical adventure memories but only vaguely remembers his time on earth. And Teen Marco is the other way where he vaguely remembers his badass adventures but his regular life was clearer. We can have Adult Marco show up from time to time and maybe also have a “relationship” with Heckapoo. All while Teen Marco does what he does in the story.
@@oreotaku4017 I mean it is magic... They could do something as simple as "For whatever reason Marco gets caught halfway into a portal as it is closing and it splits him into two people instead of killing him for some reason"
@@venusstar2963 Personally while that whole explanation isn’t a really good one I was more thinking that it would just be cool to have Adult Marco as an occasional ally but the idea Op had of them being an a villain with Marco’s worst traits was the parts that really threw me. Because I doubt that even if he was seeing Heckapoo, he still wouldn’t betray Star and his younger self because she’s still his best friend.
Y'know how for gay ships there's always those weirdos that pop up saying "why can't two guys just be friends?? not everything is a romance!!1! We need more male friendship representation" That's me with this show. Deadass. They always have to ruin a beautiful friendship for shipping. Why can't a guy and a girl be just friends anymore?? SMH!!! I'm looking at you Daron.
I agree. Even as a kid, the Blood Moon dance always irritated at the implications that Star and Marco will end up together. I liked them being friends so much without the romance.
Right?! This annoyed me so much because one of the things that made me interested in the show, was the idea of Star and Marco just being friends. I thought to myself "Finally! A show with a male and female lead that don't end up together" Plus I just don't think they have much chemistry as a couple, they were so much better as friends.
Okay it looks like the creators ignored the easiest way to make this work, make Council Hakapoo a clone! Have it so Hekapoo created a clone when the Council was doing more important jobs and becoming a kinda shadow government and that clone became evil. This way they can have their cake and eat it too and even create a design for evil Hekapoo to make fans go even crazier!
It wouldn't make much sense. Sure, Heckapoo making a clone do her work while she goofs off somewhere else perfectly fits her character but you can't have the clone become evil since the show treats the clones as a hivemind rather than individual characters.
@erfanthered9801 I mean maybe she could have just split her clone from her hivemind and have her act on her own. She could easily be corrupted by the power she gained in the commission.
Maybe make it a twist that the og hekapoo was off doing her own thing completely unaware of clone hekapoo getting more intelligent and independent from getting constantly traumatized by making questionable decisions with the council
Or include a character arc of her being the representation of the council’s unwillingness to take proper action through how she chooses to take inaction and instead only takes care of her own whims until through Marco she chooses to take action and do what’s right
On the council, I never got why they themselves were acting like that to monsters, when they weren’t anything close to looking mewman or whatever kingdom’s human looking citizens. It would have been interesting if there was an episode where the council faced similar(but not the same) issues. They almost did for Tom, where a person mistaken him for a regular monster.
the show actually addreses this Star asks Moon why the bird family does not count as monsters since y'know they are birds Moon responds that they're not monsters, they are rich basically you are a monster unless you are useful
Glossaryck made them, so blame Glossaryck. He's supposed to be all knowing and wise, instead he was just a jerk to all his kids, created problems and then left while being seen as a hero.
It always felt like this show jad two teams of writers; one group did the stand-alone part of each episode and the other did the more story-focused episodes. However it doesn't feel like they ever talked to each other so you end up with very different versions of the same characters.
Thats entirely possible. Do nobody remember how like half way through the show the episodes became part a and part b with each being like 10-15 mins instead of full length episodes.

@@michaelstrong5383 I feel like if they are going to do some exploratory relationship then it should influence the outcome sense you are getting a feel for the different relationship. Like the past seasons shows who has better chemisity with who yet that didn't influence the outcome at all.
I am genuinely embarrassed by my Markapoo phase. So many red flags, so many issues, and the more I discussed the show's horrible handling of its attempts at topical stuff with other fans, the worse her character got. (i.e. *That's not a waifu that's a corrupt politician.*) It's honestly disappointing that Hekapoo wasn't written as more of an antagonist. Her stringing Marco along--romantically or not--could have been interesting to explore. Like if Marco was used by somebody who just wanted to exploit his teenage insecurities. Not saying grooming per se, but more "Hey what if she was just a shitstarter and she wanted to con some teenage doofus into being her assistant with the allure of escapist power fantasies?" I could go on about it, but it's honestly just... PAINFUL to think about how invested the people on the crew were for a set up like this.
Hekapoo: "humans are dumb by a thousand" Me: *Sees and compares both civilizations's livelyhoods, technology, how they get along with each other despite differences, capability to learn and solve problems, if they depend to much on others or not.* Also me: 🤨uuhhh... sure, we are really dumb, whatever you say sweetie. *pats her head without burning it with the obvious fire on her head, like seriously, who would be dumb enough to burn their hand like that.*
Honestly, Star vs the Forces of Evil is one of those shows that's a step by step manual on what not to do when developing a series. Hekapoo was one of my favorite characters and it would've been an interesting thing to see a morally gray character just wanting to maintain the balance of all things magical kind of like the gods in Greek Mythology, or have her as part of a corrupt system created by an apathetic jerk aka Glossaryck only to have her regret being part of it and her wild personality that connects with Marco and others as a sign of her actually wanting to break free. Like she could still be part of horrible things but hates herself for them but her hands are tied because Glossaryck would give the queens of Mewni power over them and could replace them with a snap of his fingers. This creates a character that knows what she's doing is wrong and her rebellious teenage outbursts are her way of trying to blow off some steam.
And this is why it's important to pick a stance when it comes to the decisions that you make in writing. Sometimes you cannot try to have your cake and eat it too. When you can't stick the landing and you can't make a solid decision you end up with a big fat lot of nothing. If you're going to ride a show that is about fighting against systemic institutions of abuse and be against racism and stuff then stick to it. If you're just going to stick to making a fun magic comedy show and just stick to that. But if you're not going to stick to either then don't do it... If it wasn't for this pandemic people would be ragging on this ending of the show for the next decade
So glad you're talking about this! This was another reason (other than the creepy age gap) why I didn't ship Marco with her. While Heckapoo was a cool character, I always thought it was weird that she's done some pretty bad things but it's never really addressed properly. I mean she did get confronted during the trial, but then hung out with Marco like it's nothing. She and the MHC practically helped Moon and Mina with their rebellion, but she still expected thanks when she saved Marco, Star, Eclipsa, Meteora, and Moon (as if she didn't help cause it).
MHC minus lekmet, the only good one, not enough character to know what he thought but he seemed kind. Plus the fact that Glossaryck took a real goat, gave it all the knowledge beyond it's comprehension and then made it the one member of the group that will knowingly be giving up its life every time it helps someone. Pretty screwed up thing to do to a goat Glossaryck!
having marco not address that Hekapoo is a bad person could have lead to a neat flaw of his, being unable to accept the toxicity of people he likes, but honestly it jsut comes down to the writers not being willing to make hekapoo a full on villain and jsut pretend her crimes never happened.
They show Marco and Kelly slowly bond throughout the show, have a great episode of them becoming a couple in "Kelly's World" and then end the Blood Moon curse which was screwing up ANY hope for Marco and Star to just be friends. But nooooo they randomly offscreen break them up JUST to make sure Starco becomes endgame. 🙄
I appreciate the shout out to Rhombulus's (the diamond guy) character weirdness. As one of the five people who actually liked the guy after he was initially revealed to be a big dumb idiot with a heart of gold who doubled as the caretaker to the team's old goat man, the fact that the show then did everything possible to ignore any of the interesting characterization he had and just make him an uncomplicated bigot was frustrating to me. This show in general had a bad habit of fighting itself on how it wants you to feel about its characters and punishing you for expecting any sort of consistency
I really hate what they did to Rhombulus's character in season 4. I feel he should've been the one more willing to help out Star, since she was closer to him than the other members. Plus, as said in this video, he was the only of the MHC to seem to regret what they did, at least before season 4.
This show just had the weirdest ship stuff huh you can’t make that shit up I’m still baffled why they thought that nightmare dimension and blood moon ball stuff was a good idea for the story they ended up telling 😭
I had a crush on Hekapoo as a kid, she had a very attractive design. However I didn't really like her as a character, especially because her role in both Star and Marco's story arcs were extremely problematic.
Ah, yes the "Harley Quinn Syndrome": A shitty person? a kidnapper? a coward? who cares? she/he's hot that's all that matters (Almost every female character in RWBY, i swear 😮💨ugh.) Consequences for my actions? what are those?🤨
It was wild that they did that with his character which in turn made all his relationships questionable. Like I really hated all the shipping in this show which ruined everything.
Man the racism plot line screwed this show so hard. Like the mewmans were dumb af, the monsters were actually evil. And the main villains of the racism plot were a Rampaging monster and a crazy genocider.

I have the feeling that it this was not just a Hekapoo`s writing problem, it was the writing of the whole show. I also loved the ship and with the events that occurred, it truly was the most sensible option. But yeah, I would blame the messy story in general
3:55 actually I thought it did was that he forgot everything and is back to a normal age but the show kept fumbling by also making him remember how to fight and stuff,or make it's just,he kept his experience with fighting but lost his maturety cuz yeah it looked like he did,so his just 13 year old with the experience of a life time, but that's just a theory that could totally work
I think the real answer is that he spent the whole time fighting so he never actually got more mature or learned any life lessons. Emotionally and intellectually, he's a 13 year old who had a 15 year nightmare and internalized that as a good thing.
Really wished Hekapoo was the secret rebel that truly hated Glossaryk, but was forced to work for The Council for a reason. Like slowly revealing to Marco and Star the harm The Council did in the past kind via her portal shenanigans. Sadly this is the show that we got.
Not one character in this show came out okay as soon as the creator pivoted away from Magical Princess Kicking Ass to the Racist Royal Conspiracy plot- the _show_ didn’t survive the plot.
@ I love Buff Frog too but… didn’t they do an episode with him where they tried to do some “Both Sides” argument regarding hostility and systemic racism but with cornball?
You know in retrospect, I have to wonder if Hekapoo's sudden 'sucking' towards the end of the series and then 'death' wasn't just one very bad attempt to 'remove the competition' for Starco. Because it genuinely reads like bad fanfiction where the fanfic author decides to commit character assassination against a third character in order to make their couple work. Right down to the 'suddenly always evil' and 'well they die at the end but it's okay our couple can be together'. Which would also explain why they suddenly need to destroy the magic, a.k.a. have an excuse to write Hekapoo out of the show just like they did with Jackie. If that genuinely is the case then that just makes shit even weirder by retrospect.
It seems they probably should've had a story where Star aged up too, or they should've had it where Star's race aged more slowly so she was actually like 40 or something in order to make the whole aged up Marco thing less uncomfortable.
Dude, no, even if she ages slower then humans then she should still be treathed as what is appropiate for her species their aging, Underage is underage even if she's another species, it's not like she's a robot or a golem
@@youtubestudiosucks978 First of all mewmans are just humans who fell down a magic well into the monster world in the 1700s. So I guess you could make an argument for the magic making them evolve, but it seems they're still mostly humans (I'm pretty sure just the wands give them magic, which they then learn to control, since Star and isn't related to the first queen yet still has a butterfly form ) Last I checked the only reason age maters is because of emotional maturity and human teenagers have hormones which disrupt the proper function of the prefrontal cortex, impairing executive function so if that wasn't the case she wouldn't technically be underage
@youtubestudiosucks978 This is honestly kind of an interesting topic as if people of a different species/race age differently physically dies, that mean they also do so mentally and emotionally, or do they still grow mentally at the same pace. At the end of the day, it really is the mental factor that is the most important when discussing these things. No one calls Jenny from My life as a Teenage Robot a child because she has only existed for a year or two at most. Or other characters that age physically quickly but inside are still children. Anyways in my opinion they should have just made Marco remember the events of the other dimension foggily as if it were a dream when a kid but recollect everything when an adult.
Hekapoo gave Marco the option to leave, but Marco chose to stay. Plus Marco was physically 30 in her dimension. Also the Rule 34 is strong with this shipping.
Something that people forgot is that the show took Eclipsa mom, one of the of not the worst queen in Meiw, and give her a some what good ending with her daughter and make the last surviver of her cruel experiment the scapegoat of all the world problem.
I hated that too but the show also does a terrible job of showing Eclipsa' mum as a true villain too as they make it very clear that Mina the peasant girl was going to be killed by a beast along with everyone else in that town. (they never make a distinction between the mindless beasts and the monsters in the show, so I'm gonna call the things that cant talk beasts) Queen solarian saved her and many many lives of her people throughout her reign, She is a bad person, but I don't think her people would have seen her as such when beasts were attacking them and killing them daily, the book even says it was a very dangerous time. We get two examples of Solaria fighting, one a giant monster who can talk but was actively attacking civilians... what are cilvillans going to do, they can't change a monarchs mind, seemed pointless to attack them. and then an actual mindless beast. They should have shown not told her being much worse
I had a huge crush on her as a kid, and as a feminine trans guy, I wanted to be Marco on multiple occasions, so I shipped this instead of just making a self insert
Dont erase Toffee, he had game, he just got ruined like everything else did by the end of the series. Which is extra impressive since he was dead at that point.
I believe he is just saying that Toffee by the cannon of the show, is not a villain anymore, an antagonist sure but if he was going the right thing then can't really be a villain.
Which was BS...Toffee hated magic because it could defeat his regeneration power He didn't really care about the monsters themselves because he used them all the time Toffees's issue was always a personal grudge against the royal family And we are shown that magical creatures are not universally bad or that magic itself is the problem, it's how people use it.
For me, it at least works better than starco(the show even has star acknowledge that marco is 30+ years old in the painting episode. *that* is gross). As crazy as it might sound, my logic in regards to heckapoo is the same logic morty used with planetina. Age likely doesn't really apply to her. Her behavior is that of a young adult imo and Marco is also a young adult, so I feel it kind of works
Star vs - has a concerning “adult” X child relationship - no red flags - producers pleased, ran the show to the dirt Owl House: has a healthy, appropriate relationship with two kids - both female - producers APPALLED - cancelled had to rush through season 3
I think Hekapoo’s willingness to let the magic die would have come off better if it was a “There’s thousands of worlds that die every across a hundred different dimensions” She’s lived centuries and has seen a million different lives, beings and planets rise and die (She literally governs portal travel) It would make sense even story wise for her to uphold and just go along with the racism because “Hey, it’s just how this dimension turned out” If the show had written her as just going with the flow of whatever dimension she primary finds herself in would have been way more interesting. Like yeah, she’s in the Magical High Commission but not *in* it. She doesn’t care, but had long learned that it’s best to just let the beings of a dimension change by themselves, for better or worse natural selection style. I would have adored seeing her hop across dimensions, being tailed by Star trying to convince her to give monsters a chance and Star releasing she has no issues with monsters, and Hekapoo having to beg Star not to say anything because she doesn’t want to get involved more by rocking the boat. It would make sense in the Eclipsa/Meteoria fight for her to want to jump ship bc she would have done so a million times before. Hell, even her apathy to death would be easier to understand if she’s admits that she’s tired of watching, forever paralyzed by the infinite possibilities and outcomes, and how out of the millions she’s seen, something like the death of magic has never happened before. Anything one could say is “Once-in-a-lifetime”event she has probably seen hundreds of times. To her? Dying is small potato’s in comparison to seeing a true “Once-in-a-lifetime” event and even a gift because she’ll never have the chance to repeat it.
The age gap between Star and Marco could’ve been easily fixed if they had an episode where Star gets stranded in Hekapoo’s dimension so she can get aged up to 30. From what I remember from the Marco/Hekapoo episode, Marco was living in her dimension for sixteen years, which is eight minutes on Earth according to Star, so just do the same thing with Star. Adults in mind and teens in body, it would’ve been far more acceptable and simple solution.
13:45 I think we're going to run into the same situation with Beelzebub in Helluva Boss. She's throwing gigantic parties where she wants Hellhounds to have a good time and like her, but her people are treated like shit.
That's why she treats them well though The Sins do not rule hell Satan took over for Lucifer because Lucifer went AWOL cause he hates being in hell And Satan is the one who controls the status quo and legal system Along with the overlords and goetia royals Ozzy and Bee can be outvoted and undermined at any time by the other sins, goetia and Satan The only thing they can do is make things better as much as possible But even the sins can't change the system because they are outnumbered.
*I will never forget the hold that this show had over me from 2017-2019. Also I wouldn’t be surprised if old man Marco was actually the inspiration for old man Jaune from RWBY’s most recent volume.*
She only did that because he kept using her stolen scissors. If star kept using it she would've gone through the trial. I'm sure that she just makes scissors normally for royal families and other important people
To me I never saw Marco as a Rudy from Mushoku Tensei type situation. I always viewed Marco's thing as him "reverting back to being a teen", instead of "being a grown adult being turned into a teen", as evident by his body returning pretty much exactly the way it was when he left. To me he still has his memories sure, but its like they are filtered throgh his teengage mind and development. Like... when he goes back to being a teen, he goes back to having the exact maturity and brain of a teenager. And when he goes back to being an adult he goes back to having the maturity and brain of an adult.
LOL soooo literal reincarnation and only having the memories of your past life is bad but being an adult and be turned back to a young body is ok? Yes officer this one here (you don't see how creepy it is how they show the teen being attracted to a guy twice her age?)
@raeldri5867 I'm sorry for this rant and hopefully you are not serious, but my god Rudy defenders can be so annoying. The problem with Rudy is not that he was "reincarnated", but that he is still the EXACT same person just inside of a new body. Proper reincarnation is starting over from scratch in a new body with a new mind, akin to wiping a drive clean and putting it in a new computer, it's for the most part blank and empty. Like Naruto and Sasuke are reincarnations of Asura and Indra because they do not remember being Asura and Indra, they are their own individuals from the jump. That is proper reincarnation. The problem with Rudy is even as a baby he is giving people perverted looks, because he has the mind of a 30 something. Rudy never acted like a normal baby, because he is not a baby. He is a grown man who has been placed into a baby. This is different from Marco whose age, mindset, mentality, development and everything shifts when he is reverted from an adult to a child and vice versa. I'm not saying it's morally perfect, but it's 100% better than Rudy.
@@darryljack6612 Marco didn't even remember her laptop password, he isn't reverting to a teen he's acting, he even became more proactive with dating after that if you pay attention For Rudy he even admits that he acts that way not because he gets horny or a reaction himself (at that age his balls aren't even working as intended) but because he remembers he should act that way, if you actually give the story a shot you would realize how he goes from coomer to a normal guy/somewhat good guy I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of defending a worse situation while hating the other but as long you understand both are fictional and have no real impact there is no problem

I love how I JUST started watching your old videos after watching you for a long while. Specifically the SVTFE videos and then you go and upload this, LMAFO 😂
"Blaming magic and not the actual people in the system that created it" THANK YOU ugh I feel so many stories want the end of the magic arc but fall flat because they fail to realize magic is just an energy source and not the problem. It's just a lazy "dramatic" ending that wants to feel meaningful but doesn't
Hekapoo didn't kidnap marco, she took back her scissors and left a door open for Marco to leave The most messed up thing there is how the writers handled... Or better said, ignored Marco's new age
How they should have done Marco: Grew to maturity in the other dimension, turned back when he came back, vague memories of his time in the other dimension, but gained muscle memory so he's better at fighting often commenting that he must have been through a lot in that other dimension. If he goes back, the other dimension memories return as does his body, but never transfer back. He realizes that his tastes in women have changed, and he ends up falling for Heckapoo. He ends up convincing Star later on that destroying the magic is a terrible idea, but in reality, it's because Heckapoo would die, and then the royal family learns to share the magic with all
I always wanted Marco to let star get with Tom and him with hekapo, but they started having racial problems and forgetting that Marco had a thing with hekapoo for 16 years🤦♂️
Imagine if some of Marco’s other friends and love interests found out about him living over 20 years in another dimension on top of his 15-16 years on Earth. Shit would be wild.
I loved early Star Vs. It is remarkable how many good ships Marco actually had over the course of the show, nearly all of which had tons of potential to be satisfying. I also shipped Marcapoo once the time-shenanigan episode occurred, cause... why not? It was the only real logical choice at that point, and she was hecka cool. ...And then the rest of the show kept happening. The overbearing focus on shipping while actively torpedoing any good ones, the genuinely important (if sloppy) end-goal of ending racism being sidelined for ending magic instead, and pacing issues that make an erratic heartbeat look safe... The show fumbled hard, and just didn't know what to do with its characters, Hekapoo most of all. What a disaster. Such good beginnings, and such sour endings.
So Hekapoo is to SVFE as Lapis is to SU. Started out with great potential and a great character overall… and then as time goes on her character is completely destroyed
I'm glad to see people talking about this The awful finale aside, all the shipping and going back and forth with weird dynamics, age gaps, etc. just really made me uninterested in the show. It became unbearable. I watched the first season or two when I was still young, so I didn't quite see EVERYTHING that was wrong with the show. But when they started releasing more seasons and when I grew up a little is when I realized how truly weird a lot of the things were. They ruined the show the minute they leaned into the shipping. And not in the normal, cute kind of way where the two main protagonists experience teenage love and romantic feelings. No, it HAD to be topped with complicated potential pairings that led nowhere, with one of them being an adult character, and then eventually coming back to the pairing they planned to conclude with originally. It just wasn't worth all of that trouble if Star and Marco were going to end up together in the end And the Hekapoo x Marcho ship ESPECIALLY threw me off. Like, what do you mean he aged 20 years and rizzed up a who-knows-how-old demon girl? And then went back to his teenage self like nothing happened while still being mentally old? It's just such a mess of a show. It was good at first, the concept was fun and all. But further down the series they just threw all of it out the window completely I don't have any particular thoughts about Starco, it never bothered me as a ship and I didn't really care what they would end up being to each other. However, I do wish they either wrote Starco better, or completely scrapped that idea in favor of better ships and dynamics
Genuinely feels like the last season of SVtFoE was just the writer's room throwing whatever they thought was a cool idea at a wall and seeing what stuck, and not many of them actually thought through how any of this was going to fit into the overarching plot of the show.
The writers wanted Marco to flirt with both adult women and teenage girls. They tried to have their cake and eat it too, which ended up making all his ships uncomfortable and borderline criminal.
The time dilation aspect wouldn't be a bad thing if Marco spent a month or even a year on Hekapoo's world, but instead, it had to be twenty years.
@@michaelstrong5383They literally made him TWICE her age😭
You summarized my feelings so well.
Its giving wanting to make the average everyman a ladies man then realizing later that 'hey if we want him an hecapoo to work we're gonna have to age him up right" then they do that, THEN they realize they have to undo it but WAIT if they undo it it would undo that relationships development
So lets have him remember BUT THEN HES MENTALLY THIRTY
😭
I wouldn't say adult women. Just just the one, Hekapoo. But that ultimately means nothing because they wanted Starco to be endgame; so they wasted everyone's time with this all this.
Yeah i think if Marco lost his memories of those years as well and only got them back when he was on her world or something since that would have made it a little less creepy as he woudnt be mentally like 30 in most cases at least
"You know I can't resist your adult voice"

Yeah which lead to them ruining characters just for the sake of Starco. And IDC if I get hate but Star and Marco should've been friends
More pay attention that Marco cares about the importance of functional consent.(which from what've i gotten he does)
I mean, teenage girl being attracted to a cool adult dude? That's not weird, it happens.
It's just weird that the show doesn't acknowledge it.
Okay now give me fanart and a fic?

Omg that’s like the best solution
And this basically fixes the entire show.
this would fix a lot, but its still weird to be attracted to a 16 year old body....but i could see it
other way would be making a plot about Marco not being able to go back to normal life, so he gets his memories sealed in some object that he can put on to unlock them, meaning its basically a power up
you could also make him like Heka more than star when he has the object on

He could have returned to what he knew now, instead of what he once knew then, and continue on his journey and adventure as a now a man in another world, recognized by the dimension keeper and sticking with her, and though she has several problems (from little to being a quirky troll to as large as supporting monster racism), if the show new have to address these instead of “destroy the magic”, then mayhaps she could have been a better self. . .
And if done correctly, mayhaps a flower could have bloomed between Marco and Heckapoo. . .
Ehh; Idk if that would slide for a kids show. Especially for one of the MCs.

The whole aging Marco up thing just makes everything so complicated
Thanks for responding, legit gave me some reflection of fiction in general and I always love overanalyzing content
One final thought I have is that's what makes fiction fun, immortality doesn't exist so we can experiment with concepts, theories and ideas and if wouldn't affect anything because it's an impossibility, at least with our current knowledge (and frankly it should stay that way)

There's nothing wrong with mortal x immortal romance. The issue comes when they have the immortal fall in love with the mortal _when they're just a child._
I really love this trope as when it is done right, it has the perfect blend of wholesomeness and tragedy.
Eh, not the worst foundation for a relationship in DB. Bulma married the guy who used to commit genocides 5 days a week and killed her ex-boyfriend.
I think it only works in Super cuz it's shown to be pretty one-sided. She's only shown interest in adult Trunks, not his child self. Meanwhile Marco is out here with the mind of a 30 year old still finding teenage girls attractive.

3:49 Okay, so Marco is magically restored to 30 when he revisits Heckapoo's dimension. He doesn't actually need to live through those years each time.
I was with you after that first sentence you lost me 🤣
I could see them do something magical to separate the two in a episode after the initial one. Maybe make it that Adult Marco gets to keep most of his magical adventure memories but only vaguely remembers his time on earth.
We need more male friendship representation"
That's me with this show. Deadass. They always have to ruin a beautiful friendship for shipping. Why can't a guy and a girl be just friends anymore?? SMH!!! I'm looking at you Daron.
I agree
I agree. Even as a kid, the Blood Moon dance always irritated at the implications that Star and Marco will end up together. I liked them being friends so much without the romance.
Agree. Especially with how for most of the show Marco and Star had their own separate interests.
Right?!
This annoyed me so much because one of the things that made me interested in the show, was the idea of Star and Marco just being friends. I thought to myself "Finally! A show with a male and female lead that don't end up together"
Plus I just don't think they have much chemistry as a couple, they were so much better as friends.
Two dudes isn't a romance. Why do you think they hardly ever stay together.
never seen this show but I’m always sat for sarcastic chorus
You're lucky. While the first two seasons were good, it fell off hard after that.
Good. Never watch it lol
Watch the first 3 seasons. Make up your own ending afterwards
Yeah, the MHC look like they would fit well in Undertale. And that game LITERALLY HAS MONSTERS USING MAGIC!
Racism never makes sense, even in a fictional setting.
the show actually addreses this
Star asks Moon why the bird family does not count as monsters since y'know they are birds
Moon responds that they're not monsters, they are rich
basically you are a monster unless you are useful
Glossaryck made them, so blame Glossaryck. He's supposed to be all knowing and wise, instead he was just a jerk to all his kids, created problems and then left while being seen as a hero.
@@Parasolhyena honestly the ONLY person he seemed nice to was Ludo
It always felt like this show jad two teams of writers; one group did the stand-alone part of each episode and the other did the more story-focused episodes. However it doesn't feel like they ever talked to each other so you end up with very different versions of the same characters.
Thats entirely possible. Do nobody remember how like half way through the show the episodes became part a and part b with each being like 10-15 mins instead of full length episodes.
An yet she still has better chemistry with marco then the main fuckin character an then you get pissed off cuz wait *EVERY GIRL DID* AND TOM!....god dammit this show lol 😂
Marco has better chemistry with everyone but Star.
Which is weird cause Star and Marco have great chemistry as friends 😅 Probably a sign
Jackie, Hekapoo, and Kelly all had better chemistry with Marco, and yet the show persists that Starco was going to be endgame.
@michaelstrong5383 sighhh kelly 😫
God dammit this show only had 2 seasons an i stick by it...ok 1 season an a tv movie that was the battle for mewnie lol
Hekapoo: "humans are dumb by a thousand"
Me: *Sees and compares both civilizations's livelyhoods, technology, how they get along with each other despite differences, capability to learn and solve problems, if they depend to much on others or not.*
Also me: 🤨uuhhh... sure, we are really dumb, whatever you say sweetie.
The biggest problem with it is that Hekapoo is FOR ME
Hands off. She's MINE
It should've been me, not him!

Kelly was the best relationship for Marco until the writers fuck it up in favor of Star getting something at the end.
I know and I couldn't even enjoy it because I knew they were going to break up.
Ikr
They broke up off screen which was so unsatisfying
Damn video just came out the oven

Not one character in this show came out okay as soon as the creator pivoted away from Magical Princess Kicking Ass to the Racist Royal Conspiracy plot- the _show_ didn’t survive the plot.
this is Buff Frog slander!
@ I love Buff Frog too but… didn’t they do an episode with him where they tried to do some “Both Sides” argument regarding hostility and systemic racism but with cornball?
Hekapoo looks like a Hazbin Hotel character in hindsight.😂
Dude, no, even if she ages slower then humans then she should still be treathed as what is appropiate for her species their aging,
Underage is underage even if she's another species, it's not like she's a robot or a golem
@@youtubestudiosucks978 First of all mewmans are just humans who fell down a magic well into the monster world in the 1700s.
So I guess you could make an argument for the magic making them evolve, but it seems they're still mostly humans (I'm pretty sure just the wands give them magic, which they then learn to control, since Star and isn't related to the first queen yet still has a butterfly form )
Last I checked the only reason age maters is because of emotional maturity and human teenagers have hormones which disrupt the proper function of the prefrontal cortex, impairing executive function so if that wasn't the case she wouldn't technically be underage

@@Parasolhyena damn you're right I guess Thanos isn't a villain either because he was trying to stop famine and stuff
Which was BS...Toffee hated magic because it could defeat his regeneration power
He didn't really care about the monsters themselves because he used them all the time
Toffees's issue was always a personal grudge against the royal family
And we are shown that magical creatures are not universally bad or that magic itself is the problem, it's how people use it.
0:50 nah it's about time you talk about dragon prince again, the new seasons finally came out :)
The problem comes with the fact if Morty was to stay with Planetina forever, then it goes the opposite way, he will be an adult dating a young adult.
Star vs - has a concerning “adult” X child relationship - no red flags - producers pleased, ran the show to the dirt
Owl House: has a healthy, appropriate relationship with two kids - both female - producers APPALLED - cancelled had to rush through season 3
I think Hekapoo’s willingness to let the magic die would have come off better if it was a “There’s thousands of worlds that die every across a hundred different dimensions” She’s lived centuries and has seen a million different lives, beings and planets rise and die (She literally governs portal travel) It would make sense even story wise for her to uphold and just go along with the racism because “Hey, it’s just how this dimension turned out”
If the show had written her as just going with the flow of whatever dimension she primary finds herself in would have been way more interesting.
Its actually insane how hard this show fumbled it’s feels like there was three different writing rooms
Also badass warrior princess star with a more advanced butterfly form.
13:45 I think we're going to run into the same situation with Beelzebub in Helluva Boss. She's throwing gigantic parties where she wants Hellhounds to have a good time and like her, but her people are treated like shit.
That's why she treats them well though

*I will never forget the hold that this show had over me from 2017-2019. Also I wouldn’t be surprised if old man Marco was actually the inspiration for old man Jaune from RWBY’s most recent volume.*
What heckapoo did is unforgivable, no one else got their scissors by having 16 years trial!! This was only for Marco
She only did that because he kept using her stolen scissors. If star kept using it she would've gone through the trial. I'm sure that she just makes scissors normally for royal families and other important people
And Tom's mom's family are just legit monsters, but face basically no discrimination is also a thing.
They COULD have done the same with Star later, and mentally age her 30 years, and then they'd match...
@@darryljack6612 Marco didn't even remember her laptop password, he isn't reverting to a teen he's acting, he even became more proactive with dating after that if you pay attention

It's just a lazy "dramatic" ending that wants to feel meaningful but doesn't
Hekapoo didn't kidnap marco, she took back her scissors and left a door open for Marco to leave
The most messed up thing there is how the writers handled... Or better said, ignored Marco's new age
How they should have done Marco:
Grew to maturity in the other dimension, turned back when he came back, vague memories of his time in the other dimension, but gained muscle memory so he's better at fighting often commenting that he must have been through a lot in that other dimension.

Let’s be honest it’s technically better than Star x Marko of you ignore the age difference anyway lol 1:07 also I kinda did too
I loved early Star Vs.
I had a MASSIVE crush on Hekapoo when i was a kid. And google, did not help with that.

"Feels like a fanfic, I kinda fuck with it"😂😂😂
Heckapoo had so much promise
I'm glad to see people talking about this
The awful finale aside, all the shipping and going back and forth with weird dynamics, age gaps, etc. just really made me uninterested in the show. It just wasn't worth all of that trouble if Star and Marco were going to end up together in the end
And the Hekapoo x Marcho ship ESPECIALLY threw me off. Like, what do you mean he aged 20 years and rizzed up a who-knows-how-old demon girl? And then went back to his teenage self like nothing happened while still being mentally old?
It's just such a mess of a show. It was good at first, the concept was fun and all. But further down the series they just threw all of it out the window completely
I don't have any particular thoughts about Starco, it never bothered me as a ship and I didn't really care what they would end up being to each other.
17:57 Omigosh, I had forgotten about this. 🤣🤣
The show which tries to have everything, but doesn't understand why it can't.
"Meaning anyone of these girls, AND Tom could have ended up with Diaz," had me laughing
