In this episode of AccessToPower we will show one, probably the most common, method of Sequencing the start-stop function of Motor controls. This style of motor control is used in many applications. It allows Motors to be started and stopped in a particular order.
In this example, we wire 3 motors to start in sequence from motor 1 to motor 3.
The requirements for this circuit are as follows.
1: Each motor must be started in order from 1 to 3.
2: When motor 1 is stopped, motors 2 and 3 must also stop.
3: When motor 2 is stopped, motor 3 will stop, but motor 1 will continue to run.
4: When the estop is pushed, all the motors will stop.
There is more than one way to accomplish what we are describing here, and this will be a 3 part series on several different methods of wiring sequenced start-stop circuits.
The simulation software I use in these tutorials is called "Constructor" and a trial can be downloaded from www.cmhsoftware.com/download....

These are without doubt very interesting videos. Can I politely suggest that you insert more schematic info in between what you are actually doing as it would be of great benefit to "see" what is going on. Thank you so much.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge about this field. This is very helpful to me.
I'm currently in my 3rd year in maintenance mechanic, working with plc's, tree face motors and all that stuff. I really appreciate it.

This is very helpful. I especially like ot that you say this is one of the multiple ways you can accomplish starting and stopping motors in sequence.

    Hi Walter,
Thank you for all the contribution you are bringing to our field. Could you upload the schematic of this circuit?

On a NC protector, even if you were to switch it off manually, there would still be power? So unless it trips them it’s completely off? That explains when I swapped out a 3 phase motor , it was still live when I turned the protector off.. I ended up shutting the entire unit down to swap the motor..

your videos are excellent, would you consider making one that uses a 3 Phase Brake Module as that would be very helpful cheers!

Thanks for the comment. Yes I could do that although I do not currently have the brake/motor combination. When I have access to one I will make a video about it.

Walter, i teach motor controls and was wondering if you could provide me with the software you are using for the schematics. I like that you can click a pilot device and the live portion of the control circuit turns red. I saw this specifically on the 3 Wire Start Stop Circuit video.

Yes. I usually draw the circuit first. I did so in this video as well and in several locations in the video I show the live schematic for you to follow along.
