- Among Mountains is a documentary film and glance into a few aspects of HMong culture, language, and ways of knowing. Thank you to the various many persons who have helped me make this project happen and your support-in dollars, morale, and patience. I cannot wait to make the next one :)
I live in Minnesota where there's a sizable Hmong community and I've worked and hung out with many of them. Very courteous, hard working and they have a great sense of humor! Watching this video I have a deeper appreciation for the beauty of their culture!!!
I’m from Hawaii, and I really enjoyed this video. I am fascinated by the backstory of unique individuals such as yourself. I hope to visit both Laos and Cambodia this year, and look forward to delving deep into the local lives of such a beautiful and resilient people.
I'm going to Laos 🇱🇦 Feb. 2024
I use to wonder why the OGs would tell me "Oh this music is so sad it tells this story about blah blah." I had no idea it was tones of words played into music. I will try to listen to them closer next time. Very interesting.
Thank you... Thank you.
I have never heard of HMong before. But after watching this documentary, My heart beat for HMong .
Such lovely and beautiful people!!
Holy Crap! This grandpa is from the same village my father and grandpa was borned. They have got to have known each other. I’ve been to Non Het back in 1999 to visit and honor my great grandpa’s grave. The village today is so much more modernized and not the same anymore. Would love to visit again soon and talk to him for more history.
Kuv yawg yog Col. Neej Lauj Yaj - from Non Het - 1930’s - 1960’s
I just hope Hmong peoples lived a happy prosperous life..Even poor the world would provide everything as long as our God will provide
This short film brought out soo many emotions can't explain. Beautifully made. I'm sad, yet happy, and very blessed. Hmong people are resilient, they've gone through many challenges and still kept it together. ❤ Definitely proud to be a Hmong. Thank you for your beautiful art.
Impressive. No wonder u’ve been MIA because U’ve been busy crafting a tight ass HMong gun. I’m impressed.
This is so wholesome, I love listening to my dad and grandpa tell their story when they were young before the war, it's something about their voice when they tell you the story, and if they shed a tear while telling you the story bet you will shed a tear also, I'm proud to be hmong
Brought tears to my eyes brother.. I will always be proud and happy that I am hmong and never will forget that I am. Blessing brother and to all my hmong ppls everywhere.. thx for this and hope you make more brother.. Thank you and Thank you for this educational documentary

This documentary reminded me of my old time as a Hmong person living the same life as Xongseng. It truly brings out the culture of our Hmong.
That flintlock rifle is badass!! Making that from scratch is a lot of work and for it to work flawless, is just amazing! You have my respect.
Hmoob txoj kev txawj ntse muab zais rau suab music ( suab raj, suab qeej) including pajntaub.

Such a well done documentary of our Hmong history and love language! I also learn so much from this. Our new generation don’t know enough about it our history due to time. This is so neat!

Nice documentary love it
What a beautiful documentary. I learned so much. Thanks for doing your share to keep our history alive as well!
A lovely documentary. Brought back many happy memories of our visits to beautiful Laos. Congratulations on making this film!
Beautiful work on the documentary. I especially loved the emphasis on the beauty of our culture, rituals and music. The part where the guy says we have to know our value. It’s when we forget our value that we cease to exist. And what you said about as long as there is 1 Hmong person, our history and our stories will live on. Keep up the amazing work.
Spectacular! Triple "A" documentary of the Hmong people. I learned so much from this film.
One of the most important, informative, very good Hmong documentaries.
Thanks for sharing. I’m happy to see a more modern take documentary and one from our voices rather than from outsiders.
I’m about 40 minutes in and this musical section of the documentary hits what I’ve been itching towards the more i research on our Hmong cultural history. If i had an opportunity i know exactly the doc i would make to compliment this doc. Again thanks for sharing. This is great
Thank you for sharing your culture and history. The Hmong firearm is beautifully crafted
Watching this puts a smile on my face
I'm Hmong. I love my culture, language, people, food, traditions, and pure spirit that we carry with our elders and our forever love for each other. 😂🎉❤
Subscribed.. Keep it up brother. Lots of History to be learned by the younger generations. Glad u doing it to preserve our Peoples History.
I needed a good cry today.
We would like to see more documentary like this in the future. Thanks Neng.
Awesome documentary 👏 everything was well explained. Best part that interest and surprised me , was the music and instruments. Learned something new.. keep it up
Great document Neng.
Neng, Thank you for doing this film and sharing with us. I was touched by our culture explained and blown away by your editing skills. Please continue to do more films. I can’t believe this was release 9 months ago and I’m just finding it now. I love how you used both young and old and yourself to explain Hmong. I look forward to seeing more of your work and can’t wait. You are so talented; folk songs, making traditional instruments, making film, etc…👏👏👏
Neng, you are spectacular for displaying our beautiful culture so precisely! I myself often wondered how am I ever really going to preserve our language and customs and religion any longer, but then there are still people like you who revives it all so well. I've been working very diligently on this myself over many years basing info off of any historical videos or legit documents that I come across.
I respect this so much and appreciate your travels, your work, your near perfection in translation and it could not get any better than this!
Would love to network with you in the near future to share detailed information about our Hmong culture and history.
Thanks!
Nalee Thao ;)
Returned to watch this documentary. Brother Neng, you did a great job on this video. I hope u make more videos in the future.
I'm so glad I've found your video. Thank you for sharing your stories. It's especially valuable for Hmong people speaking on themselves.
Brother neng nice doc. I'm touch and enjoyed it. Keep it up the good work.
Owsome…! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I cried at the qeej song. Thank you for the translating. I come back to this video often and feel proud to be a part of something bigger and better. Destroying a language would extinguished an entire population and its culture from existence. The Hmong ancestors understood this. I hope the younger generations will learn to understand why they are urged to speak the language and appreciate their ancestors sacrifices. Keep it up Neng! I shared this with my father and he loves what you are doing. You have great content!
Let me know where I can find and listen to zaj qeej @ 37:15. It tells about the painful struggles & heartache that the hmong ancestors endured.
Thanks for the hard work son proud of you
Appreciate brother.. Go ahead ☺☺
Wonderful Job!
Your too unique neng. To be able to speak hmong and give good descriptive information. Your a very talented individual. Do what you do best. Can't wait to see more. 👍👍👍🥰🥰🥰

Also Mason sounds so good when speaking hmong green. I haven't heard a young person speak hmong like that in a while.
Hai zoo kawg os
I'm glad you translated "Suav" as Han and not the other term like most ignorant Hmong people would say, which is used to refer to all ethnic groups originated in land of Chin. Hmong are also part of that.
I like it.
Bravo 👏 beautiful documentary
😀😘😘😘😘
I would've liked to have Hmong captions available during scenes when you interviewed for english portions for the parents and grandparents who don't know English.

Great stuff here. NatGeo worthy
Great job! There are questions about (noj peb caug) description ( earn 30 things) ?
This is awesome. You and your team did a great job.
Interesting regarding 30...it is not just a celebration, but the effort to create 30 individual, distinctive items to consume.
Hmong get up, get up to achieve your life ( sawv os peb Hmoob, sawv los caum peb lub hom phiaj )
