Thanks very much champion. This was so much fun hey. Even catching smaller fish (more challenging fish) on light gear can be so addictive. If you listen to the doclures podcast, there should be a poddy going live today about this one!
@@lukesfishinmission7596Hey what are you doing up so early going for a flick? Haha. Sweet mate yeah I love listening to those podcasts. I'll keep an eye out for sure! Yeah the last two times I've been out I've fished much lighter than I usually do hoping to get a bite. I got two small jacks and a massive tarpon the other morning otherwise I've been really struggling to get a good fish lately. But that's fishing!!
Haha yeah man I was up having some black tea with some lemon and honey in it. Throat feels like I’ve swallowed nails! That sure is fishing mate but I’d certainly rather go light and potentially get owned from time to time, rather than go to heavy and not get the bite at all hey
@@lukesfishinmission7596 oh I hope you're not getting crook mate, good thing you're getting on top of it early. Yeah the light tackle thing I'm going to make more of an effort with I reckon. I just need to get over the "what if I hook a big fish" way of thinking. Especially in more open water for sure.
@@jenniferbaumgartner1770I don’t know the area sorry. Find the flats and fish the incoming tide and you should do ok. Look for yabbie beds and little gutters as well
Hey bud, loved the video. If you were purely building a whiting rig, would you go mono instead of braid? Would the little bit of flex mono has increase your landing percentage?
Hey Rhett thanks for the kind words and for the question. It’s a great question actually. You’ve certainly given me something to think about mate. I’ve been using braid for 20yrs now but you’re dead right. The zero stretch in braid could certainly be a reason for pulling hooks from time to time. Mono straight through would certainly alleviate that problem with the elasticity. Either that or back the drag off a little more would solve the issue as well. Mono straight through would certainly be worth a crack if you’re going as a stand-alone whiting rig but because I’m using this combo for multiple species I’ll stick with the braid
Hey Luke where is this place? I’m heading to Hervey Bay next week to have a crack at surface lures there…. Similar incoming tide to where you were fishing :)
Hey Amanda, you always have to have your wits about you because we crocs are around everywhere in NQ but given the clear, shallow waters, I’m happy to take my chances. I don’t wade out too far and can see for 30m around me in all directions. Pretty safe here
Living in Sydney, I’m struggling to find a good spot to catch whiting on surface lures. I’ve tried many locations in & around Sydney that look good for whiting on surface but no luck.
Mate all I can say is stick at it. If you are fishing the gutters on beaches or around a little shale or weed edges on an incoming tide, they will be there. Get yourself one of these and give it a crack
I’ve been teaching my kid, with some garbage rod and reel combos. The key is light drag, then tighten up as you engage the fish. My most successful fishing rod cost $3 at a church sale.
If you are releasing fish healthy and unharmed I will watch, also considering there was a lot of movement on the bottom wouldn't it be better to drop soft plastics to the bottom and lift off again, encourage the flatties to bite ? dragging small plastics along the sandy bottom there would get you a frog every cast I'd imagine.
@@fiddlestickzmuzik I’m more about the excitement of catching fish off the top. Nothing compares to the surface bite in my opinion and yes I release about 90% of the fish I catch
Cool intro. Love the intro soundtrack.
Thanks Richard. I use it as my themesong/ opening track to all my vids!
Awesome stuff mate! Those conditions looked amazing and great fish too. Thanks for sharing another top video yeow!! 👍🏻🎣

Love this lure is the bomb 👌
Sure is buddy
Love the sugarpens killa on whiting
They sure are aren’t they mate 🎣🤟
I'm stuck using slippery dogs.
Just bought some lures for this exact thing. thanks Luke for another great video
Hey that’s pretty cool. What brand did you go with out of interest?
I can’t remember because I have to wait till Christmas to get them but I’m think they were something like a daiwa slippery dog
Do you have any recommendations on where I could find some sand flats in Eden nsw

Top water fishing is so fun
The best way to catch a fish for sure 👍
Love this vid and this style of fishing, where is this exactly? Must be nice just standing out there with the tide rushing in and fish coming with it.
Hey thanks very much Pete. This is in Mackay mate
I caught your recent interview on the ALF, love your passion for it.
That’s really cool Gary. Thanks heaps for reaching out. If there is one thing I am for certain…it’s passionate!
Awesome video Luke thank you for the tips :)
Thanks mick. Hope it encourages you to go out and give it a crack mate
Nice video 👍
Cheers mate

Hi Tony, thanks for reaching out mate. This spot is actually in Mackay but the same take-home messages can be applied anywhere. All the best
Good video brother im sub greetings from spain
Hey Nacho!! Thank you bro! All the best 🎣

Where are you getting the whiting mate is this mackay or gladdy@lukesfishinmission7596

Think it’s a whiting, oh nope it’s a flat head, no could be a whiting. Nah it’s a flat head 😂
😜
you don't really need to go super light for whiting. I was fishing with a 5-8kg rod with a 4000 spin reel using vibe lures just fine. caught plenty.
Yeah you can catch any fish on any gear but it’s a lot more fun with light gear and generally the lighter you go, the more you will catch

So is your retrieve fast or slow?
On the quicker side. Meandering from side to side. Has to be consistent

When I try to pester for whiting they just follow it 😢
“Go for”
Keep putting the time in mate. If they are following they should eat at some point. Maybe slow down your retrieve?
For the give away
