The '63 Galaxies are the most popular of the 1961-64 high water mark Galaxie era, owing to styling, and second to none build quality. Somebody I know of bought one new, but when he made his order as to how he wanted it, the big 390, with 4-speed manual, he goofed!! He never considered power brakes and steering. So as he found, that '63 in red was a liability to drive, with no power assist, the big mill, and four speeder. Redundant to say, he hated the car, and simply, but aptly named it " Old Miserable". Overheating due to the high compression of the big engine argued for the car earning its' "Old Miserable" sobriquet.
I live in the "rust belt" where vehicles are eaten alive by the salty slush our roads are covered in during the winter. Only cars that are kept in a garage from October until May last more than 25 years.
Luke you are such a fine young man. I am so glad you and Emily are doing well. Your channel has given me hours of entertainment as well as taught me a lot about older cars. Continued success and blessings friend!!
My first "relationship" with a '64 Ford was riding home, age 7, from the Ford dealer in Clinton, Iowa in late October of 1963, in the back seat of a new Chantilly Beige, white interior '64 Galaxie 500XL two-door HT, also a 352. Nine years later it was my first car. I love '64 Fords, prettiest Galaxie EVER.
As far as I am concerned you are driving one of the best cars ever produced by America. I liked them so much that I had three of them when I was a young man. They had so many ways to hot-rod these cars. I had one that had one of the most powerful engines they had back then. It was a 406 Interceptor. I pulled it out of a wrecked state trooper car and put it in a black on black 64 Galaxie XL 500. It had a single double pumper 780 Holley, Iskinderian cam, medium rise aluminum intake, factory headers and dual exhaust with big blue cherry bombs. It had a 3 speed manual on the floor with overdrive and a 3:23 gear which believe it or not got over 25 miles to the gallon on the highway. It got about 14 in town though.
Great to see the old Galaxie in use. I remember a time when these cars were seen everywhere. I drive a 64 Chevy II sometimes when the weather is nice. Three on the tree and six in a row.
Love the galaxy man. I have a 65 mercury montclaire breezeway with a 390 fe in it. I don't drive her everyday cause I have a work truck, but I get her out as much as I can.
Thank you for sharing, that car brings back memories from the sixties when I was a teenager. My brother-in-laws brother had one same color as yours but was a 2 door with a 390 in it.
When I was in high school in the late 70’s , I was working with a guy that had one of these except his was a two door with the 390 3spd and I absolutely loved that car!! He came to pick me up one day and he was in a 79 trans am and I was heart broken when he was so excited that he had traded the galaxie in on the trans am and got $500 for it but if he woulda told me that he wanted to sell it I would have given him $1k that day!! It only had around 40k miles on cause nobody ever drove it cause of gas, even back then. It was red with the white top and by the way, ford sent most of these out of the factory with body one color but roof another. Not all were two tone but a lot were. The other wired thing about his was that he said it was a 63. The 63 body style is a bit different and had different tail lights but his was this body style except a two door and his had the big round tail lights so I’m wondering if ford brought this updated galaxie to the market as maybe a 63 1/2 model first cause all of the 63’s I’ve found over the years are just a different car than what his was and what I’ve been looking for. But they are just fantastic cars , I love em and this one is a beauty!!
I was wondering what you ever did with that car, my favorite!!! Want one! Maybe you should spray the Maverick and put stock wheels and hubcaps, make it a sleeper, fly under the radar. Fleet white? That Galaxie is a great piece of history, and you are so right, they NEED to be on the road. Say No to trailer queens!
Old metal had class. Easy to service and work on. They just look cooler than what's out there today. My uncle had a Galaxy 500 SL. He let me borrow it several times to go on dates. Loved driving that car. Your would have come from the factory with a white roof. That's color combination is one of my favs. Give here a good buffing.
Love Love Love my old iron. Simply simple, easy to work on and cheap compared to buying in new today....plus the old stuff always turns heads with a smile
My first ride 64 country sedan wagon , 289cid 3 on the tree, no steering no brakes, but love all the chrome, was a great old ride, thanks Dad! The oldes you greased and the components lasted forever, repacked wheel bearings. now you just replace parts.
I hope you make it. I like your attitude. You remind me of me before I joined the USAF and left Kansas forever. I married a Kansas girl who was also in the Air Force. We had 3 boys, all grown now, and we are still a solid unit digging life in the Pacific northwest. I'm trying to get my son interested so you can help him with his 73 Duster. Like you I've always driven rebuilt beaters. Our current ride is a 1995 Grand Cherokee Laredo. 8 grand bought an engine, transmission, front axle over haul, driveshafts, Brakes steering and suspension, and a fresh AC system. It came with new tires. We've had it 3 years and no complaints. I'm digging your channel. Keep it coming please.
Sweet ride! Last year before Ford changed their body/interior manufacturing processes and went to a lot simple methods, with much more plastic. Tell the Dr./Mrs. that I remember our large animal vets in western Iowa running up and down the gravel roads in mid-60's two door Falcon Sixes with the back seat taken out for a medicine cooler and all their tools (calf-pulling winch, hoof trimmers, spare coveralls, muck boots, etc.) in the trunk. Who needs four wheel drive when you got Atlas snow tires and lots of ballast? Keep that shiny, white side up!
My brother was the recipient of an extremely rare (by today's standards) '64 Galaxie 500 4-door Hardtop (Victoria) as a birthday surprise gift. That was an awesome car; had the 289, the Ford-O-Matic, manual steering and brakes. He wasn't entirely pleased getting it; looked upon it like granny panties. I would have taken it for a time machine, and loved having it. Besides, a schoolmate of my brother's had just got HIS own first car, and it was a '61 Galaxie 4-door post, and he wasn't blase or biased against it because it wasn't a Maserati. And a friend of my brother's also had his first, which argued for who had the better car. My brother's friend had just bought a '62 Studebaker Lark wagon, with the Super Skybolt Six that seized up, as many did, a month after HE bought it. So, my brother had the best of this lot, who was HE to squawk?
I found a 64 Galaxie 500 2 door sedan (post) that sat on a farm for 34 years. 352 4bbl, 3 spd on the column. Got her running and driving. Added a radio, bigger steelies, and a Hurst Indy shifter I found in another Galaxie in a local junkyard. Even though she used more oil than gas, I put 3000 miles on her in a year before the lifters started collapsiong. Currently building a 428 for her. And, I painted and stickered her up like an old NASCAR bomber.
These cars/trucks just don't work on the roads we have over in the UK/Cornwall, but I do love them and am glad you and your friends are keeping them alive for the rest of us to lust after =;-))
Glad to see a young fella that loves the old cars. He's correct that the FE Fords are great engines; dependable and easy to work on. I've had several Galaxies though late '60s to early '70s and each one was a great car. I've also had quite a few other brands but I always go back to the full size Fords; they're just really good cars. My current vintage Ford is a '72 Galaxie 500 2-door hardtop and I like it so much I've held on to it for 26 years. Keep up the good work ThunderHead289, I really enjoy your vids.
I've never been an old Ford guy, we had nothing but problem with Fords but man are they good looking cars. I love those big round tail lights, thanks for the vid
Luke its great to see a young guy that is willing to daily drive an old car or truck, very rare these days, some young people today cant crank an engine with a carb 😂
That’s what I’m trying to do. I have a 1985 C10 and I want to daily drive it so bad. The new stuff that manufactures come out with these days are just boring in my opinion
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 well I just got it back today (it was getting fixed), but it’s not registered yet. Don’t want to get pulled over for not having a license plate 😅

Yup, Drive them, love them and show up all the trailer queens...... Im pretty sure that your Workmates and bosses smile and wonder whats next as your commuter too. A proper Engineer Luke, Preach brother.
My dad used to rave on and on about his favorite car. I graduated high school in 1984 finally we found a picture of what he was talking about. It would have been about 3 years older than this car. The closest thing I can say is it looked like the squad car from The Andy Griffith show. His brother-in-law my mother's brother worked for Ford at the time and bought one the year after. Pay me more about cars so he went with my dad to have the car spec'd. He told me a Corvette was a plastic car and basically this Ford would have smoked anything I had ever owned. The car I had at the time was a mid-70s Camaro with a 305 and a two barrel. It had headers and glass packs and looked good but I think was right. After we found the picture and the specs of the cars we had a good laugh about it.
I'm 73 now but when I was in my mid twenties I owned a 64 Ford 4 dr, automatic, power steering and brakes. It just had a six cylinder in it but I have to say to this day I haven't had a more comfortable daily driver. I really miss it.
Love the sound of an old FE block! They just sound gutsy. That is a good base to start with for a restore. I know some Ford guys who would jump thru hoops to get that car.
I came across your channel while looking for 390 carburetor videos. Keep up the awesome content! Last year I bought a 1963 Galaxie 2dr with a locked up 352 and a 3 speed floor shifted manual. I'm working on swapping in a 390 from a Mercury Marauder that ran before I pulled it, and your videos are teaching me a lot.
Love the old cars too. I recently purchased, and got running, a 66 Bonneville Convertible. my first trip to a gas station is when I realized the hoses on the pumps are long enough to reach a gas door mounted on the side of a car. mine is behind the license plate. had to maneuver the car a couple times to get it to reach. after that, fun times ensued.
Started daily driving my 73 Bronco with 3 speed manual and 4.11s this week. So much fun to drive and thank you for these videos! It runs like a top per your instructions.
I'm 50 years old always enjoyed older rides. Just picked up a 93 f150 straight 6, 5 speed no factory ac no electronics at all except fuel injection. I just wanted to go back to a basic reliable easy to work on truck and I really think about those mid 90's was it especially if you want a manual
Beautiful Car! Makes me miss my 1978 Lincoln MkV with the 360. Low & Fast she was, till I blew the Head Gasket... I was young & stupid and didn't know how to work on cars, so I ended up "SCRAPPING IT".😪
Learned to drive in my folks' black 4-door '64 Ford Galaxy 500 w/390 t-bird engine, 3-in-the -tree manual. When you leaned on the gas, you could watch the fuel gauge needle drop. It was the only car that I ever took to 120mph.
I've said this on your channel before. My first car was a 63 Galaxie 500 four door. 352, automatic, no power brakes, but it did have power steering, factory air. Wish i still had that puppy.
My first car, which I still have, was a 1963 Plymouth Fury, the competitor to yours, with a 361 Commando, push button automatic, power steering, air, and also no power brakes. The original owner didn't trust power brakes and he only got the power steering because his wife begged him for it.
My first car was a 64 Galaxy 500....love this old girl. Would love to own another one...mine had an aftermarket AC unit...bolted under the dash...and the sliding steering wheel!
Impressive that only 3 hours after posting that you have 8,590 views already. It just goes to show how dedicated your fans are and how eager they are to see your up-loads. i know that personally, I always look forward to your new content because i find your channel to be very educational but most importantly very entertaining as well.......Really enjoyed this video Luke.....

It was an honor to meet you and your father at the power tour Luke.
I remember this car! Good too see you driving her again! All steel car like it!
She's a beauty. She's not a '65 but still good looking! haha! Miss my '65 like crazy. Good video, Brother. Thanks for sharing. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks for shearing duude. I try to drive my 68 El Camino as often as I can here in Norway. Have a good one!.
Nice. My Dad still drives a 69 El Camino on a regular basis here in the states.
That’s what I’m trying to do. I have a 1985 C10 and I want to daily drive it so bad. The new stuff that manufactures come out with these days are just boring in my opinion
WHATS STOPPING YOU FRIEND?
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 well I just got it back today (it was getting fixed), but it’s not registered yet. Don’t want to get pulled over for not having a license plate 😅
I daily drive my 85 dodge W100, most reliable vehicle I own. I’d take and old carbureted truck over fuel injection any day!
I have a 86 chevy c10 and has alot of work done to it even has aftermarket "vintage air ac" hard to beat
@@sinjin90ful I can’t wait to get Vintage Air and a Dakota digital dash. As well as swap it to a manual
Great old ford always loved them I've got a 76f250 I've had for 32 yrs an a81 f100 I've had for 20 yrs an daily driven either one I've never had a plastic car an never will
"Get out and drive them" hell yeah!! With an F.E. just keep A few pushrods in the glovebox!
You are truly an old soul my friend! How refreshing 🤙
Hey Luke. Great car. I like the needle idea for priming the carb. She sure rides nice and smooth. Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍
I LOVE that car Luke...keep it forever!
I like the old cars because I get to play mechanic more often.
Started daily driving my 73 Bronco with 3 speed manual and 4.11s this week. So much fun to drive and thank you for these videos! It runs like a top per your instructions.
Great commentary, you Have IT. Thank you for showing back up!
I like how you explain things with food in your hand.. I feel like you're trying to teach me how to run 🤦 haha
Beautiful Car!
Makes me miss my 1978 Lincoln MkV with the 360. Low & Fast she was, till I blew the Head Gasket...
I was young & stupid and didn't know how to work on cars, so I ended up "SCRAPPING IT".😪
Love that old Galaxie Luke, my aunt had one when I was young.
Learned to drive in my folks' black 4-door '64 Ford Galaxy 500 w/390 t-bird engine, 3-in-the -tree manual. When you leaned on the gas, you could watch the fuel gauge needle drop. It was the only car that I ever took to 120mph.
I've got an fe in my 65 F100. Love that motor.
Love the video my friend have a good one and God Bless.
Luke, thanks for taking me along for the ride. I love those old classic Fords.
Thankyou dude, keep on makin more videos man!! 😎 badass car bro
Thanks for that right long that way we can live vicariously through you
I've said this on your channel before.
Awesome Galaxie, Luke! Keep up the good work!
I've got a '60 Chevy Biscayne 2 door that I hope to daily drive once I get the old stovebolt 6 banger sorted out.
My first car was a 64 Galaxy 500....love this old girl.
Would love to own another one...mine had an aftermarket AC unit...bolted under the dash...and the sliding steering wheel!
I like this channel nice to see some body still working on old cars and still driving with carburators
My first ride in a car was home from the hospital in a '64 Galaxie 500 two door hardtop, dark red with a black interior, and that 352!
Oglam zawsxe z wielką przyjemnością! Dziękuję.
Thanks for.bringing it back eerty so often!
Love that car and it's awesome your daily driving it. You can drive it for years and sell it for more. Do that with a newer car.
good lookin car luke, wanted to let ya know got my hat the other day, thank you so much an the stickers love it, totally unexpected!
Awesome! What an awesome ride. Wish you the best of luck with this
9:35 Preach it, brotha! These things are meant to be driven, not to be admired in a garage!
i am SO jealous lol love the sound of that land yacht.
Nice looking ole' ford. As always be safe. Peace.🇺🇸
