This mod is one of the best mods for Rome total war. It made the game campaign more interactive and added tons of new units and also campaigns on different time periods if i remember correctly . Didn't play Europa Barbarum so i can't judge who is better. but with your video you just got me back in my memories when i was first introduced to Total War . I wish I can play it again .

That was probably the part that made me fell in love with that one. The shining brilliance of all the hellenistic factions, the ones with hybrid armies with troops from different cultures, the need to desperately fill the army with what mercenaries are available. I started with the Makedonia one and it was awesome, starting in the middle of a two front war with your army out of place. Loads of cool units, having to use tactics to beat vastly superior foes and so on.

Let's compare: Rome 1: completely linear building trees. Every city is capable of being upgraded equally with only a minor variation in temple. Squalor/ population bug means some cities will break and never grow properly. Rome 2: Double the number of provinces of Rome 1, provinces are now divided into capitals and settlements, capitals can be upgraded but settlements cannot. Buildings have multiple upgrades allowing you a choice of focusing on military production, industry, commerce, farming, culture or a combination of all of them. Unlike Rome 1, you have to choose carefully how you upgrade. You can specialize settlements at a cost where as Rome 1 all cities become clones of one another. There's no question Rome 2 requires more thought and strategy than Rome 1. As for Roma Surrectum -- looks neat but it's scripted out the fucking wazoo. If you want to play the same game over and over again be my guest but Rome 2 is about having a dynamic campaign where no game plays out the same exact way twice. I also think it's hilarious how there is SO much unit blobbing in this game, something you pretend only happens in Rome 2, but like the hypocrites you are: it's only wrong when CA does it. Like I said, your comment is garbage and I just fucking scooped your ass out to sea. Peace out.
Well there is good news for those without the disk version. The mod team is currently making a RSIII update, which will fix many issues regarding crashes or simply not being able to launch; however, from what I've read we'll need the Alexander dlc, as the .exe of Rome/BI won't launch the mod. Due to Alexander being a standalone of sorts it's .exe is independent, and the RSIII launcher and Alexander are compatible, so that's nice. Also, RSIII looks awesome.

To double your fps in Rome total war on modern windows OS do the following: Go to NVidia control panel and change vertical sync to fast. Also don't cap your fps cause that will create the illusion of low fps. Thank me later.
RS: II DOES WORK ON STEAM POST UPDATE I did manage to get it to work after a fairly complex process. So what I did was install rome total war and rome total war alexander for steam. Then, I created a folder called "Games" in my drive, so it would be E:\Games Inside the games folder, I created another folder called "Roma Surrectum II". So the path is E:\Games\Roma Surrectum II I copied all the contents of the rome total war folder in the steam folders, and pasted it into the roma surrectum 2 folder. Then I copied and pasted the contents of the rome total war alexander folder into the roma surrectum 2 folder, saying yes when it asked me if I wanted to override the contents. Next, I installed Roma Surrectum 2.5 directly into the rome surrectum II folder. Then I copied and pasted the 2.6 update patch into the roma surrectum 2 folder, saying yes when it asked if I wanted to override the contents. Then I downloaded the Alexander.exe file provided in this forum: www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...g-steam-update Next, I copied and pasted the Alexander.exe file into the Roma Surrectum II folder, overriding the current Alexander.exe in there. Then I loaded up the launcher, selected my faction, selected my Alexander.exe, said I was NOT using steam, and loaded up the game. Finally, the campaign successfully loaded! Sorry if my instructions are not clear, I can be more specific if needed. -Arsaces (TW Centre) I did not invent this fix, I'm just spreading the word I found when you launch the game I got a blank screen, to fix this I alt-tabbed out of it then back in and mashed escape

Rome 1's performance is caused by cpu core optimisation, being that it was made when single and dual core cpus were pretty much the only cpus around so essentially if you have a quad core cpu its only actually using 1 core
what nonsense! most modern CPUs have better 1-core performance than old 1&2 core CPUs from when TW was released, so if that was the reason performance would have improved
God I loved playing Roma Surrectum 2 when I was younger. I agree with you on the more aesthetically pleasing part, it just seems more role playable as well then any new total war too
Been playing total war from shogun 1 to warhammer II, and I have to say that the best battles I ever had were in Roma Surrectum 2, They are way more realistic and real world tactics kinda work.
What I love is that all the factions are tough, even as the Romans. Fighting Macedon is very challenging and fun and you cant just smash your cohorts into their phalanx and expect to win. It does take much longer, but the fact they brought forward the start date is good. For me its much more of a short term campaign with many long battles that can be very decisive.
Darren, thx for reminding me of the glory of this mod. Just bought a new Rome Total War/Barbarian Invasion copy so I can play the stuff that doesn't work on my Steam copy...
If anyone is curious about Rome 2, I don't know if the RS team is working on a version for R2, but there is a mod for Rome 2 that is similar to Roma Surrectum called "War of the Gods, Ancient Wars". Very good mod, I've tried other overhauls for Rome 2 and it's by far the most similar mod to RS.
I'm not entirely sure that the mod is only available for the disc version, though I could be wrong. The install instuctions on the mod page, acknowledges Steam installs and doesn't say anything about a disc version exclusively.
+The Gamer Strikes Back It says it can work on steam, but only 4 months ago R:TW updated to change the .exe that launches the game to be win 10 compatible. The mod install structions havent updated in a long time. There may be a way to do it, but since that update I can only get it to the main menu screen, loading a campaign freezes for me. Loading the disc version works though.

My problem with Europa barbarom is it's ridiculously overwhelming. They have all these units and factions with complicated latin names and you have no idea what you're doing. At the start of the game there are like 4 different hastati units. Why? You don't know so you spend 5 minutes trying to figure out the difference only to find none. It's ridiculous. Sure it might be more realistic to talk about how different itallian cities had different hastati units but it just makes the game needlessly complicated (which is really honestly true for the entire game as a whole)
I understand completely how you feel. I put about 50 hours the past two weeks into EB, and a game breaking bug broke my campaign, can't continue it. There's too many scripts going on and revolts actually cause CTD, so you'll have to micromanage the AI cities for them, checking for revolts. I'm over this mod after it killed my campaign.
Funny thing. I deleted Trivial Script and... game stopped crashing often. Now to get error I need: -play more than 10 turns (its too much for mid-late EB game, sometimes after hours am passing only 2 turns) or -play more than 7 battles or -get more than 1 revoult (my taxes always at low, its not a problem) or -play very long siege battle (40+ mins)

Wow this brought back some memories... I loved this mod. I first played as Rome, of course, got to the named/numbered legion reforms and from then on was totally committed. My Seleucid campaign was my favorite however, very challenging campaign. I was also taken aback by the fact this mod has custom settlements, I was completely blown away. I played EB for a while but just couldn't get into it, for my rome 1 experience this is the mod I would choose again and again. I would still recommend it.Lets hope Ancient Empires captures me the same way as this mod did.
The one thing I could never stand about Rome 1 was the army size, in Rome 2 I’m able to install mods that make army’s a more historically accurate size. I just wish it was the same for Rome 1
SPQR is good mod, when I was younger RTRPE 1.9 and 2.0 was the mod I was into but over the years I've gravitated to Roma Surrectum. I will say I do like SPQR and EB I can now say without a shout of a doubt Roma Surrectum is probably the best one however.. SPQR has the best soundtrack by far loll but it's easy to put the SPQR soundtrack to Roma Surrectum 3 which I have done.
It is available for Steam users as well. Download the game (I had the gold edition) then move that folder out of the Steam directory to where ever. Then "find" the original .exe for Rome or Alexander and replace the Steam .exe that you're going to use for the mod. In the RSII launcher after installation choose the correct .exe and have the option of running on Steam set to no. That's it, it'll work fine.
nice video, when I had fps problems with rome total war i put the resolution down to the lowest, the game doesn't hold up well at newer resolutions, maybe this works for you

Or maybe theres a rest of the rs Team still there, and maybe start modding the newer remastered ? Honestly, while I find Europa Barbarorum to be the superior mod in terms of gameplay I still prefer RSII because it's more stable. In my experience with EB, were I to manually fight a battle; the game would crash when I ended the turn or fought another on the same turn. The only way I could do anything in that mod is by savescumming like fuck. RSII on the other hand, while the battles are a tad long in my opinion, can at least be played for a few consecutive hours without issue. The fact that the battle maps are absolutely gorgeous deserves mentioning also, which has me right excited for RSIII. Jesus, talking about the mod has got me itching to start it up again.

+Conor Gleeson I never had those kinds of problems, either yours or Darren's, playing EB. Sadly I never had the opportunity to play RS so I can't compare the two, but EB has a perfect atmosphere and I was a huge fan of the gameplay. My only problem was the campaign, which was so imbalanced in parts that certain factions just weren't worth the effort to play.
That campaign balance annoys me in EB2. Just downloaded it and noticed that they have moved the epirotian troops so instead of the army being split on two fronts all of them are facing Makedonia and the latter barely have any troops to defend themselves with.

Žilvinas Deveika difficulty changes just give the A.I stat boosts like increased attack and bonus income. as for good mods there's also Europa barborum (something like that) and fourth age dominion of man a really unique LOTR mod set after anything Tolkien did that really makes good use of the population system (especially with the dwarves and elves)

A problem with your analysis of EBII is that its an unfinished Medieval II mod, unlike EB for Rome, which is very much finished. I'm not sure which you had the pathfinding problem with. I don't find city pathfinding in EB any worse or buggier than for vanilla Rome. If you mean EBII, perhaps its an issue with Medieval II? Either way, you seem to be confusing and conflating EB (which is great btw) and EBII.
+huntmaster89 Sorry my analysis was for EB1 only, if I called it EB2 that was a mistake, haven't tried that yet! Mostly noticed it on the walls of greek / roman towns. units would completely mess up. It seems to be mostly assosciated with the unit spacing of greek units. They practically stand on eachother to showcase the shield covers the man on your right effect. However as a result moving around becomes really hard to manage. At one point, in a unit of 100+ men, 2 of them ran off the walls and out of the city :/ They also were clipping through eachother because their spacing was so low.
DarrenTotalWar Ah I see that makes more sense. I don't recall experiencing anything as bad as what to describe, but I can relate to issues with spacing, and pathfinding bugging out in towns to some degree. One good thing about the mod though is that there are many submods (and packages of sub-mods) that can improve or customise one's experience. I haven't played for a while, but I always use a phalanx mod that makes hoplites fight in a more authentic way, rather than just behaving like generic spearmen with better stats. What I'm getting at though is that its likely possible to get around most problems with the mod, making them not so game breaking as may seem. I consider both mods to be excellent, but they seem to be focused more on different things. RSII is very focused on highly challenging but also accessible gameplay, with the most developed campaign features (EB's gov. types and recruitment are great too). EB is more for history buffs who want a deeply immersive experience and with more historical feeling battles. RSII is going to appeal to more people, EB is also great, but more niche in its appeal.

my only issue with this mod is the battles with greek units all the spear man units when they clash most of the units remain in formation out of the fight whle the rest fighint and i have to move them and go through enemy units to force them to fight its just weird AI problem the enemy units fight fine only my units and thats what threw me off this mod

I have: = i3 Intel Core with 3.3GHz =10 Gb of RAM =and a GTX 1060 6Gb of dedicated graphics ram I'm not getting more than 15fps, sometimes even 9fps in battles with all graphic settings at max, and around 4000-5000 units on screen. Any help? I've checked my task manager and Rome is not even utilising my full amount of VRAM. I am on windows 10.

RS1 was my first ever RTW mod and it was awesome. I then moved to EB ONE which is the mod you need to check out. It changed my life hahaha like literally. It made me fall in love with history in a way that RS1 didn't even though I love RS1 as well. EB2 in my opinion sucks in combat due to the sluggish Medieval 2 engine.
it does work, i have steam version of Rome and Alexander and just installed RS III a few days ago and boy can I tell it is amazing to see it run on windows 10 :) also really sad to start it up and realize just how extremely watered down the newer games in the Total War franchise have become, really there is so many details and elements in Rome and Medieval II that just isn't there anymore.
This game is much better than Rome2 was in general. The balance was all calculated, the armies and combat were perfect and not super-speed where you rout them in 10 seconds, so thus it's also good for multiplayer if you could find players. There are many historical events, good descriptions of cities and units, good modeling, etc.. People who say the battles are 'slow' are basically being retarded, because it is actually pretty fast. If it was totally real, it could last hours. I find you can rout an army in like 10-30 minutes depending on how difficult it is, and people who think it's 'hard' are just those kids who are playing a singleplayer game and basically are bad at it (yet complaining like an idiot). It's really not even hard. However, it is true you can lose sometimes. Especially at the beginning, where you haven't set up any momentum and probably don't have a good grasp on all your settlements. It is meant to be a challenge and the balance is actually very good. But you have to realize what difficulties do: for example Hard / Very hard will add lots of stats to enemy units, and make it less fun/harder to beat them on the battle map. It's already quite balanced so you should do Medium/Hardest if possible for Battlemap/Campaign map. I had a lot of fun on RSII throughout the years just testing stuff etc.. In addition it just shows how much Total War has suppressed graphics. They always add some useless graphical effects that couldhave been done easily on Rome Total War 1 back in 2004.. you can see the modding/units looks amazing. It looks/feels way better than Rome2 was all the way in 2014.. It's pathetic how much Total War has gone down the toilet. They really just suppress graphics a lot and then add some 'amazing new feature' that is actually from like 10 years ago, and then make a new game with the same broken system. They have really turned into a money-making pile of shit company and I haven't bought any of their recent games. Rome1 with mods and in general was their golden game. Also you can easily torrent RTW or install it in any way and then patch it to 1.5 and install the mod. I am not sure how it works if you got the steam version, but I think Steam is 1.6 and breaks some mods. In some ways it is much more efficient to do this just beacuse the retail cds are so outdated that each cd only holds like 500mb and you have to use 3 cds; it is just annoying and slower to do it that way.
Goto to the Surectum launcher and you will se a tab that's says "Other factions" or something like that click on it and select another faction and then click laucnh,now you will have a brand new campaing with new story
The graphics of this mod are amazing, the rosters are varied and huge, the music is great, the scale of the game is epic. But, there is also one huge problem. The unit stats are not balanced at all, and the combat is essentially broken. Armor stats are so high that the combat degenerates in a slugfest that can last up to 2 hours, if you don't have AP units. The huge unit size (usually 240 men), together with the high armor makes units bug out and assume strange formations (especially the pikemen and the spearmen). Roman infantry is extremely OP, and since they spawn new stacks all the time (like the Huns in Attila TW), the campaign becomes extremely tedious, very soon. It does not matter what faction you play, you will basically need to spam armor piercing units and slingers and fight countless battles against the Romans, over and over again. Each Roman soldier gets hit, falls to the ground, rises, gets hit and falls again, and again and again. The same, ridiculous animation, witnessed hundreds of times, before the buggers die. I have played a Belgian campaign for 4 months, and had to abandon it, because it was sooooo tedious and tiresome. I then tried a Roman campaign, which was better. And finally a Makedon campaign, autoresolving all battles, as I would kill myself if I had to manually fight a battle again. Overall, great mod, but, seriously, the combat mecchanics need to be fixed.
I played the shot out of this mod, but a week ago I bought ROME 2 and installed the divide et impera mod and some others. I think Rome 2 is actually better than this with DEI installed

Chain routes are VERY common in base Rome 1. Its just you notice less playing as Romans because their units have better morale.

Been playing total war from shogun 1 to warhammer II, and I have to say that the best battles I ever had were in Roma Surrectum 2, They are way more realistic and real world tactics kinda work.
What I love is that all the factions are tough, even as the Romans. Fighting Macedon is very challenging and fun and you cant just smash your cohorts into their phalanx and expect to win.
It does take much longer, but the fact they brought forward the start date is good. For me its much more of a short term campaign with many long battles that can be very decisive.
Darren, thx for reminding me of the glory of this mod. Just bought a new Rome Total War/Barbarian Invasion copy so I can play the stuff that doesn't work on my Steam copy...

If anyone is curious about Rome 2, I don't know if the RS team is working on a version for R2, but there is a mod for Rome 2 that is similar to Roma Surrectum called "War of the Gods, Ancient Wars". Very good mod, I've tried other overhauls for Rome 2 and it's by far the most similar mod to RS.
I'm not entirely sure that the mod is only available for the disc version, though I could be wrong. The install instuctions on the mod page, acknowledges Steam installs and doesn't say anything about a disc version exclusively.

Wow, you’ve improved your vocal presentation a lot. The structure and commentary is still excellent, but you really improved in your expression.
My problem with Europa barbarom is it's ridiculously overwhelming. They have all these units and factions with complicated latin names and you have no idea what you're doing. At the start of the game there are like 4 different hastati units. Why? You don't know so you spend 5 minutes trying to figure out the difference only to find none. It's ridiculous. Sure it might be more realistic to talk about how different itallian cities had different hastati units but it just makes the game needlessly complicated (which is really honestly true for the entire game as a whole)
I understand completely how you feel. I put about 50 hours the past two weeks into EB, and a game breaking bug broke my campaign, can't continue it. There's too many scripts going on and revolts actually cause CTD, so you'll have to micromanage the AI cities for them, checking for revolts. I'm over this mod after it killed my campaign.
Funny thing. I deleted Trivial Script and... game stopped crashing often. Now to get error I need:
-play more than 10 turns (its too much for mid-late EB game, sometimes after hours am passing only 2 turns)
or
-play more than 7 battles
or
-get more than 1 revoult (my taxes always at low, its not a problem)
or
-play very long siege battle (40+ mins)

Reason I asked is that whenever people bring up RS they talk about how awesome the romans are and how much detail there is for the romans. And only talk about romans.
Wow this brought back some memories... I loved this mod. I first played as Rome, of course, got to the named/numbered legion reforms and from then on was totally committed. My Seleucid campaign was my favorite however, very challenging campaign. I was also taken aback by the fact this mod has custom settlements, I was completely blown away. I played EB for a while but just couldn't get into it, for my rome 1 experience this is the mod I would choose again and again. I would still recommend it.Lets hope Ancient Empires captures me the same way as this mod did.

The one thing I could never stand about Rome 1 was the army size, in Rome 2 I’m able to install mods that make army’s a more historically accurate size. I just wish it was the same for Rome 1

SPQR is good mod, when I was younger RTRPE 1.9 and 2.0 was the mod I was into but over the years I've gravitated to Roma Surrectum. I will say I do like SPQR and EB I can now say without a shout of a doubt Roma Surrectum is probably the best one however.. SPQR has the best soundtrack by far loll but it's easy to put the SPQR soundtrack to Roma Surrectum 3 which I have done.

It is available for Steam users as well. Download the game (I had the gold edition) then move that folder out of the Steam directory to where ever. Then "find" the original .exe for Rome or Alexander and replace the Steam .exe that you're going to use for the mod. In the RSII launcher after installation choose the correct .exe and have the option of running on Steam set to no. That's it, it'll work fine.
nice video, when I had fps problems with rome total war i put the resolution down to the lowest, the game doesn't hold up well at newer resolutions, maybe this works for you

Or maybe theres a rest of the rs Team still there, and maybe start modding the newer remastered ? Maybe with some historical unit skins etc? would be great, since the gameplay is now extremely modernized and made more comfortable. What do you think?

Honestly, while I find Europa Barbarorum to be the superior mod in terms of gameplay I still prefer RSII because it's more stable. In my experience with EB, were I to manually fight a battle; the game would crash when I ended the turn or fought another on the same turn. The only way I could do anything in that mod is by savescumming like fuck.
RSII on the other hand, while the battles are a tad long in my opinion, can at least be played for a few consecutive hours without issue. The fact that the battle maps are absolutely gorgeous deserves mentioning also, which has me right excited for RSIII. Jesus, talking about the mod has got me itching to start it up again.

+Conor Gleeson I never had those kinds of problems, either yours or Darren's, playing EB. Sadly I never had the opportunity to play RS so I can't compare the two, but EB has a perfect atmosphere and I was a huge fan of the gameplay. My only problem was the campaign, which was so imbalanced in parts that certain factions just weren't worth the effort to play.
That campaign balance annoys me in EB2. Just downloaded it and noticed that they have moved the epirotian troops so instead of the army being split on two fronts all of them are facing Makedonia and the latter barely have any troops to defend themselves with.

Just saying, unit route chains to other nearby units in the base game too, it isn't an added feature in this mod.

RSIII works on Steam. Also couldn't you use RSII on Steam and set "compatability" mode for Win7/8 even if you're using Win10 🤔🤔

The best mod is Euroba Barbarorum. ( For Rome Total War ). It is historically more accurate and there is many new buildings and units.

Two questions. What exactly does battle difficulty change in RTW and other Total War games? Can you name other good RTW mods?
Žilvinas Deveika difficulty changes just give the A.I stat boosts like increased attack and bonus income.
as for good mods there's also Europa barborum (something like that)
and fourth age dominion of man a really unique LOTR mod set after anything Tolkien did that really makes good use of the population system (especially with the dwarves and elves)

A problem with your analysis of EBII is that its an unfinished Medieval II mod, unlike EB for Rome, which is very much finished. I'm not sure which you had the pathfinding problem with. I don't find city pathfinding in EB any worse or buggier than for vanilla Rome. If you mean EBII, perhaps its an issue with Medieval II? Either way, you seem to be confusing and conflating EB (which is great btw) and EBII.
+huntmaster89 Sorry my analysis was for EB1 only, if I called it EB2 that was a mistake, haven't tried that yet!
Mostly noticed it on the walls of greek / roman towns. units would completely mess up. It seems to be mostly assosciated with the unit spacing of greek units. They practically stand on eachother to showcase the shield covers the man on your right effect. However as a result moving around becomes really hard to manage.
At one point, in a unit of 100+ men, 2 of them ran off the walls and out of the city :/ They also were clipping through eachother because their spacing was so low.

Ah I see that makes more sense. I don't recall experiencing anything as bad as what to describe, but I can relate to issues with spacing, and pathfinding bugging out in towns to some degree.
One good thing about the mod though is that there are many submods (and packages of sub-mods) that can improve or customise one's experience. I haven't played for a while, but I always use a phalanx mod that makes hoplites fight in a more authentic way, rather than just behaving like generic spearmen with better stats. What I'm getting at though is that its likely possible to get around most problems with the mod, making them not so game breaking as may seem.
I consider both mods to be excellent, but they seem to be focused more on different things. RSII is very focused on highly challenging but also accessible gameplay, with the most developed campaign features (EB's gov. types and recruitment are great too). EB is more for history buffs who want a deeply immersive experience and with more historical feeling battles. RSII is going to appeal to more people, EB is also great, but more niche in its appeal.

my only issue with this mod is the battles with greek units
all the spear man units
when they clash
most of the units remain in formation out of the fight
whle the rest fighint and i have to move them and go through enemy units to force them to fight
its just weird AI problem

= i3 Intel Core with 3.3GHz
=10 Gb of RAM
=and a GTX 1060 6Gb of dedicated graphics ram
I'm not getting more than 15fps, sometimes even 9fps in battles with all graphic settings at max, and around 4000-5000 units on screen.
Any help? I've checked my task manager and Rome is not even utilising my full amount of VRAM. I am on windows 10.

The install for me was downloading the .exe installer, running it, then playing the game.
Lanjane's Barbarian Empires mod is now on Steam for the Remaster, makes installing so much easier.
You can't compare Eb2 with rs1. The first is for me2tw and the other for Rome 1.

If you are using steam...then I’m afraid you can’t. If you want to run Roma surrectum 3 on steam then you won’t be able to play other mods.

RS1 was my first ever RTW mod and it was awesome. I then moved to EB ONE which is the mod you need to check out. It changed my life hahaha like literally. It made me fall in love with history in a way that RS1 didn't even though I love RS1 as well. EB2 in my opinion sucks in combat due to the sluggish Medieval 2 engine.

it does work, i have steam version of Rome and Alexander and just installed RS III a few days ago and boy can I tell it is amazing to see it run on windows 10 :) also really sad to start it up and realize just how extremely watered down the newer games in the Total War franchise have become, really there is so many details and elements in Rome and Medieval II that just isn't there anymore.

Europa Barbarorum has too many bugs and revolts cause CTD, as well as after battle CTD. It's a good mod, but the problems become too many.
This game is much better than Rome2 was in general. The balance was all calculated, the armies and combat were perfect and not super-speed where you rout them in 10 seconds, so thus it's also good for multiplayer if you could find players. There are many historical events, good descriptions of cities and units, good modeling, etc.. People who say the battles are 'slow' are basically being retarded, because it is actually pretty fast. If it was totally real, it could last hours. I find you can rout an army in like 10-30 minutes depending on how difficult it is, and people who think it's 'hard' are just those kids who are playing a singleplayer game and basically are bad at it (yet complaining like an idiot). It's really not even hard. However, it is true you can lose sometimes. Especially at the beginning, where you haven't set up any momentum and probably don't have a good grasp on all your settlements. It is meant to be a challenge and the balance is actually very good. But you have to realize what difficulties do: for example Hard / Very hard will add lots of stats to enemy units, and make it less fun/harder to beat them on the battle map. It's already quite balanced so you should do Medium/Hardest if possible for Battlemap/Campaign map. I had a lot of fun on RSII throughout the years just testing stuff etc.. In addition it just shows how much Total War has suppressed graphics. They always add some useless graphical effects that couldhave been done easily on Rome Total War 1 back in 2004.. you can see the modding/units looks amazing. It looks/feels way better than Rome2 was all the way in 2014.. It's pathetic how much Total War has gone down the toilet. They really just suppress graphics a lot and then add some 'amazing new feature' that is actually from like 10 years ago, and then make a new game with the same broken system. They have really turned into a money-making pile of shit company and I haven't bought any of their recent games. Rome1 with mods and in general was their golden game. Also you can easily torrent RTW or install it in any way and then patch it to 1.5 and install the mod. I am not sure how it works if you got the steam version, but I think Steam is 1.6 and breaks some mods. In some ways it is much more efficient to do this just beacuse the retail cds are so outdated that each cd only holds like 500mb and you have to use 3 cds; it is just annoying and slower to do it that way.

Goto to the Surectum launcher and you will se a tab that's says "Other factions" or something like that click on it and select another faction and then click laucnh,now you will have a brand new campaing with new story

Total war games slowly went downhill after rome total war
They've gotten really bad lately, the Warhammer franchise is keeping CA alive financially though.

Practically any modded rome total 1 puts any later games to shame.
The graphics of this mod are amazing, the rosters are varied and huge, the music is great, the scale of the game is epic. But, there is also one huge problem. The unit stats are not balanced at all, and the combat is essentially broken. Armor stats are so high that the combat degenerates in a slugfest that can last up to 2 hours, if you don't have AP units. The huge unit size (usually 240 men), together with the high armor makes units bug out and assume strange formations (especially the pikemen and the spearmen). Roman infantry is extremely OP, and since they spawn new stacks all the time (like the Huns in Attila TW), the campaign becomes extremely tedious, very soon. It does not matter what faction you play, you will basically need to spam armor piercing units and slingers and fight countless battles against the Romans, over and over again. Each Roman soldier gets hit, falls to the ground, rises, gets hit and falls again, and again and again. The same, ridiculous animation, witnessed hundreds of times, before the buggers die.
I have played a Belgian campaign for 4 months, and had to abandon it, because it was sooooo tedious and tiresome. I then tried a Roman campaign, which was better. And finally a Makedon campaign, autoresolving all battles, as I would kill myself if I had to manually fight a battle again. Overall, great mod, but, seriously, the combat mecchanics need to be fixed.
