having owned a fk2 and 8 and now the fl5 :) the car is simply fantastic and worth the money it cost to purchase. Never a dull day driving her and always puts a smile on my face.
Great review . Those who have driven this car (or own it) understand the price point immediately and that cost-concern we are talking about here dissipates exponentially every time you jump in and send it down a mountain road. The vast majority of buyers are choosing the FL5 because they appreciate it for what it is not because they want to line up and race a Tesla Plaid from a dig. We completely understand this car is NOT made for the stop light crowd and if you did your research you would know that's not its purpose at all. We also recognize this car will most likely never satiate those who simply measure a cars worth by the time it takes to get to 60. Chocolate and Vanilla, ya know ? Nevertheless, if you look and are patient you can get them at/or under MSRP. I got my 24 FL5 slightly under sticker in June (not $50k).
💯 every time I drive mine I’m reminded how special it is with how well engineered & tuned it is, and all the special touches that remind me of Honda’s heritage and passion for pure driving enjoyment
Wouahh! What a professional and accurate review. Exactly what I feel when driving my fl5. So many information delivered. Thanks for it. Just subscribed
Firstly, nice to see you back producing content. I've always preferred your style over most other reviewers. IMO it's worth every penny it's that good. Bottom line is that you either pay or you don't and given the low numbers available there's no doubt they'll find buyers.
@@darreny8900 Thanks for the lovely comment. I agree… It’s £50k, which is a lot, but it’s that or don’t have what is quite a rare and ultimately panicle hot hatch of it’s era.
@@markukblackmore A flying visit I’m afraid… I left the world of journalism a little while ago, but couldn’t resist one last outing. I’ve got loads of unused footage from over the years, so might invest some time in turning those into shorts. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm :)
As marvellous as I have no doubt this is, 50k buys some serious used cars and I just don't see value in this or the Golf R for example at their current price points. I will stick with my STi RA and 3 series touring that combined come in at about that and are certainly cheaper to run.
@@machidaman Fair point, but a new car buyer is not a used car buyer. Value proposition is totally valid, but many buy new for warranty, peace of mind, and knowing that the car has always been theirs. It’ll be interesting to see where these are in the market in 2/3 years.
@@insidelane agree, I don’t know why any person would buy a used car for 50k unless it’s a low mileage rare collectable lol. There’s just something special about owning a brand new car and being the original owner.
yes buying brand new, knowing you’re the first owner…it’s a special feeling over buying a used and abused ek9 from 1997 that’s still fetching 30k plus.

Wow, a true Type R fan! What a great lineup. I still have a soft spot for the FK2.
Finally a review from somebody who knows what he is talking about. Thumbs up!
Thank you!

Great to hear from an owner! You’re right, this car is worth more than the sum of its parts.
got my 2025 championship white for $200 under MSRP. 46k something.

Great to see you back with these great type R reviews. I still have my FK2 but would love to drive an fl5 ❤

@insidelane Ah, I read another of your replies saying this was a flying visit. A real shame but all the best whatever you're doing.
@ Still in the industry, just instead of being a journo, I look after journos haha. Who better to know what they need than one of their own!
I absolutely enjoy every drive in my FL5
Have owned a fk8 6 years now , even though the people have said fl5 is much improved. Can't justify the hike on my income lol.
You must test the ford focus st edition manual....and tell us your opinion comparing with FL5 Type R
It’s a bit pricey. It needs a few more amenities but overall it’s a great car.
English is not my native language although I find the words used in this review fascinating
Will get it in red in 2 or 3 years ❤️❤️❤️
Love the type R but it starts at 85'000 euro here in Ireland and that's not in my budget.
Just got my FL5 dyno tuned at 270KW and 517 NM of torque at the front wheels on 98 octane. Plently of power for carving up corners.
Great content! I currently own a FK8 Limited Edition, how much better FL5 over FK8, I would like to know.
Here we go... Can the Type R really be worth £50K?!
yes. to me it’s worth 60k usd
Yes! First
Glad you are…… back?

It's grossly too expensive now. For 50£ there's a lot more speed to be had elsewhere
You can walk out of a Honda dealer with a car for £45k.
There is very little on the market at that price point which can give it a run for its money.
It really cannot be justified. It's unacceptable.
