Would you recommend this technique for the spiral in Dragon Mines? It’s the last Oxide ghost I need to beat and the only I’m struggling with a bit! Thanks for the informative video! Waiting for the PS4 save corruption patch before I attempt it again.
@@Chibuga Seems too obvious but i wanted to be sure. When u-turning, do you press right and left? Otherwise how do you turn just hopping and pressing down?
Yes you can use it. However I tend to just use the shortcut. With reserves left over and good timing to avoid the train you can jump up the railroad and then cut back on the track
Had trouble U-Turning even as a PS1 returning player, but this helped me finally get a good grasp (managed to clear turbo tracks turns twice, still need to practice timing). I appreciate what you've done, thank you!
Finally! Someone that gives a thorough explanation of the U-turns. I managed to do a few of these things on this list but I haven't mastered the U-turn yet. Thanks for sharing! 😁
Omg i U turned by pressing right/left sticks instead of the down one until now, this explains why my u turns were trash, thank you Chibuga, my biggest mistake is finally fixed
I had the original PS1 CTR and just now I realize you can rev up your engine when being dropped back into the track. Also, waiting for others on the finish line seems like good sport, at least until they adjust the online timer or do something like ranked matches.
Thank you!! Very informative! & just so you know @ 19:25 it’s a shortcut that can be used & cleared using the techniques you demonstrated by hopping over to the platform on the right! You’re welcome!

Super helpful video, bud! I would recommend raising your microphone volume maybe like 5 to 10%. Other than that, quality footage and you're very good at explaining! Also, some Time Stamps for specific parts of the video would be helpful.
For Xbox w/alternate control users: 1. Go to Xbox settings on home screen 2. Find the option to map your controller buttons 3. Map the R1 button to dpad down (this swaps the functions of the two buttons) You can always go back and change this setting back to normal when you're done playing for the day, but it is indeed the most crucial step to the equation. 4. When wanting to Uturn, you must release the acceleration (R2) and quickly hit and hold down R1 (this would have been the down on dpad you would have had to hold down for Uturn which is almost impossible while using analog). 5. While holding R1, also hold brake (x). You must be holding R1 down before adding brakes or you will lose your fire. 6. Now that you are holding R1 and X, spam the L1 (jump) button while using left analog to guide your Uturn. 7. Once finished with the Uturn, release all buttons and resume R2 (acceleration), and drift as soon as possible to maintain fire. I have done 101% completion of the game, and have gotten to only 9 more Velo times to beat, and just today learned this from watching The Viperian. I can't believe I didn't find this sooner but it has breathed new life into playing.
Great tutorial! Definitely going to send the video to players who need help. Also, i love how you stop to let other players finish the race. I started doing that too after so many matches destroying the casuals. I felt bad. haha.
Yeah I don't want them giving up on Racing so we need to show some mercy. That's part of the reason I started making these tutorials. I want some actual competition in the future
@@Chibuga I cant agree with you more. Plus theres also toxic players that really discourage the newbies from learning the game. Its nice to see experienced players giving a helping hand.
great job u forgot to talk a bit about reserves a bit. very funny how u u talk in 3:15 u sound like a mom telling go clean ur room. nice video. u sure that turning opposite side while turbo sliding makes u loose speed? will certainly try it! thanks : )
Lol I do at that point. But is true. Turning normally is asking to lose. Did I say turning the opposite direction while power sliding makes you lose speed? Can you time stamp it? It's been a few years sense I made this video and I don't remember. I don't think that happens. It just alters your turning arc.
@@TioMagic I think you may have misheard because there is no point in time I ever thought power sliding in the opposite direction slows you down. In fact it is better because it keeps you going straight.
Hi, Chibuga! I have a question. I'm trying to beat Oxide in Crash Cove, but only there for the sake of beating him on Time Trials and for the life of me, I can't maintain the fire from the turbo pads. Any tips?
I think this is more of a character problem. Crash is 2nd slowest in the game. Choose an advance class sense the track is easy and mostly straight aways. To keep fire just make sure your always power sliding and don't touch any walls.
Thanks, man! So, I reckon it's not doable with him. Aside from the advanced characters, is there any with full acceleration that can help, like Coco or Nash? Also, any of the advanced will do?
Παναγιώτης Βαφειάδης I believe it's still possible with Crash it just may be harder to do especially if you can't keep your fire (basically you have to be perfect and can't mess up), But it will be easier with acceleration or advanced characters sense those 2 have higher top speed. Also characters don't have individual stats, only each class does, so go ahead and choose any character in the respective class.
I'm pretty sure I lose fire and reserves from hopping. So people online don't know what they are doing. I would only hop to get a better angle on tight turns.
So with the U-Turn so we hold down the brake while spamming jump? I need to practice the U-turn since I've been barreling through oxide times and got stuck with dragon mines.
Awesome video man! I knew there was a better boost start! Also for your u- turns on electric ave, you're just holding down and kind of floating instead of hopping. I'm assuming it's the same u-turn technique but you're going alot faster so u dont need to hop? Before the u-turns you're adjusting the way u want to u-turn by the way your kart is facing?
I'm just pressing break in the air to turn faster. Also with the u-turns I made sure to have extra space so that I wouldn't hit a wall and lose fire reserves.
You will always lose fire when u-turning, but can manage to keep it if you have built up enough reserves to counteract the amount lost while u-turning.
I've got a Question to the U-Turn. When i'm drifting around the corner, i must always press the X-Button or letting go? Sry, about my English Knowledge, i'm from Germany!
Challenge mode. Play without using any of these techniques. Dont actually do that. Medium is pretty difficult to win like that. Unless you wanna duplicate the Mario kart feel I guess. But against real people, you will never win... unless you all agree to race like that.
