Agnostic to Christian with a History degree here. An amazing way to look into the validity of the Old Testament is to dig into archaeological and historical evidence. Famous historical sites, buildings, and people are mentioned in the Old Testament that we can look up in our general history books. For example, look into Cyrus the Great of Persia, his son Darius, and even King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in the book of Ezra, Nehemiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, etc. They are mentioned in the Bible and we learn about them in European history class. Also, look into Jewish culture, language, and traditions, like Passover (when God passed over Egypt and spared anyone who’d painted the lambs blood on their door). Look into Rosh Hashanah, which just passed this month. It commemorates the creation of the universe and Adam and Eve! Or the Feast of Tabernacles! We can put our history buff hats on and really know that God left His footprint in every area of the world. Look, and you will find Him! 😊
Let me ask you this. I have another military friend, Army, he is similar to you. Had a master's in history, teaches world history geography etc etc, and he's agnostic leaning atheist. I've tried to get him to understand that the Bible is sufficient and accurate for history, but he says nothing in the Bible is historically sound and nothing has been found. Always goes to Noah's ark and big bang. He said King Cyprus didn't exist neither did Nebuchadnezzar.
I also explained to him God has revealed to many others the world is less than 10,000 years old, around 6,000 ish. I know that in my heart to be true. He says why is it always that number. Other than speaking truth and love to him, IDK what else to do.
@@dragontalontsiawdI don't have the links right now for you. But do the research because they just found more evidence including Excaving buildings of where they found babylon
Good points. Also, look at the Calendar, which much of the world observes. It is completely based on the birth of Yeshua (Jesus). Look at the foundation of western law, which is based on the Laws of God and Leviticus given to Moses. Also, look at modern hygiene practices, also found in the OT of the Bible.
Many many things about the bible were doubted, from places to people to events, and one by one, little by little many have been confirmed by archeology. I find it highly reasonable to trust the bible
The writing of the Torah involves copying from an existing scroll with specific rules about how it’s written and what it is written on, much more than how the NT is written, so I would say there is even more chain of custody in OT, you gave the example of Dead Sea scroll of Isaiah.
To believe that Jesus rose from the dead is an amazing belief to have and I approve of this as well. As we dive into the prophesies inside the Bible, we see also how satan will also do miracles like this as well in the end times, and so we must not believe any dead person that comes to life, only Jesus. This will be 1 method on how satan will deceive even the elect if possible, is by showing us our dead loved ones, just like the story of king Saul who went to a medium to speak to Samuel. That was a demon speaking as Samuel as the devil does not have the power to bring life, and so we will be deceived into following satan when he brings up the dead folks you know. For Jesus is a special case, but for anyone else, be warned.
Prophecy even tells us that the Antichrist will come back from the dead as well. Difference between the sign of Jesus and the sign of the Antichrist is that prophecy tells us ahead of time Jesus is the Messiah and the Antichrist is of Satan.
@@StageWatcher antichrist by definition means anyone against Christ. Anti-Christ when used appropriately as we all see it mean the devil coming in human form to rule. The devil isn't coming as a dead person resurrected, but as a beautiful angel mimicking Jesus to proclaim God on Earth status and sits on his Earthly throne made by man and then starts to usher in a decree, a law to kill all those who do not worship him here on Earth. According to the Bible, Jesus will not set foot on Earth until it is cleansed by "Fire From God", but people don't know this an will follow the direct orders from satan to kill all who do not have the mark of the beast.
It's interesting that he uses the chain of custody from a police evidence point of view. I have used chain of custody from a property deed point of view. The way we know who legally owns property is to see who owned it in the past and passed it down. As one could say they've owned it since 1901 and the chain of custody could support or disprove their claim
Where can I find Jesus affirming Adam and Eve? One of the biggest points non-Christians make is that Jesus never mentions them, and I have never found it.
Matt 19:3-4. Jesus doesn't name them directly but his reply affirms the validity of Adam and Eve being created by God. If the first few chapters of Genesis were folklore than Jesus would be complicit with a lie by quoting from that text. Or we can trust that if Jesus spoke truthfully then this reference to Adam and Eve is also truthful.
Regarding the timeline of creation stated in Genesis 1 of the Bible, many people think that creation occurred within a 7 "earth-day" period. However, if one reads the actual text of the Bible carefully, it is very clear that the “days” mentioned in Genesis 1 are not referring to the assumed 24-hour earth- days with which we are all accustomed. Because, what is a “day” on earth? Isn’t a "earth-day” the single revolution of the earth around its axis? (By the way, science has shown that the rotation of the earth has not been constant over earth's history. Additionally, every celestial body has a different length for its "day".) According to the Bible, the Earth was not "formed" until the 3rd day of creation. Prior to the 3rd day of creation, the earth was "without form and void". So, how could an "unformed" earth have rotated about its non-existent axis during the first two days of creation to provide a measure of time? Clearly, God was using a different measure of time for a “day” during the “seven days of creation”. In other words, God was not using an “earth-day” as a unit measure of time during creation. To think that God would use an "earth-based time clock" to measure the creation of the universe is akin to the out-dated geocentric belief that the universe revolves around the earth. Even though God is everywhere at all times, God did not have to be "on" earth [Obviously, since the earth had not even been formed until the third "day" of creation.] and therefore not limited by an earthly time frame, when He created the heavens and the earth. (By the way, when was the clock invented? When was the unit measure of time for a second, a minute, an hour, a 24-hour day established? These are all relatively new innovations. So, how could they have measured time at the moment of creation.) God is beyond heaven, earth ... and time.
We did not invent time. We invented words to describe it. We did not invent math. We invented symbols to describe it. Our descriptions were made to understand reality. The reality is that God created the universe in such a way that the earth rotates in a solar system, giving us evening and morning. Modern man may now know more specificities of how the system operates, but God gave mankind the ability to observe and calculate from the beginning.
Aside from that, you have not read Genesis closely. God created light on the first day and "divided it from the darkness" referring to the light as daytime and the dark as nighttime. Leading to the description of "evening and morning". This light is not the sun, and is not implied to be the sun. We know this because God created the Sun on the fourth day. To solidify the days of creation, God even sets up a schedule with Israel in accordance with His own described work and rest in the beginning of creation. 6 days of work. 7th day rest.
Yes, Jesus affirms the OT. But it's not made clear whether he considers it literally or allegorically (symbolical) in all cases. As Spiderman's uncle says, 'with great power comes great responsibility'. Is that true? Yes. Doesn't mean I believe that Spiderman's uncle existed... So it could be with, say, Jesus's affirming of Adam and Eve or Job.
Well, in the Gospel of Matthew 12:40, Jesus references what happened to Jonah to speak about what will happen shortly after his eventual crucifixion. So take from that what you will.

I've taken that approach and it doesn't break the circular logic of denial. I am partial to the DBR police approach.
