Failing a midterm but still getting an A in a class...the dream.
The very lucky dream...
Actually happened to me, failed a midterm got one of the best grades of my year
tiago fontes I failed my math mid term for the first time ever in my life. I’m retaking everything all over again and hoping to kick ass in my assignments and mid terms this time. I believe I’ll do better this time than before.
50% on final but overall 86%. I'm so bad at writing essays :(
I did it for calc 3 during a summer class (super fast paced). failed my first 2 midterms and thought I was fucked. crammed my ass off and got 95's on the last 2 exams, got curved up to an A in the class. it can be done you just gotta go absolutely ham and hit the books hard 💯
My college strategy:
- Ace the first half of the semester
- Never show up to class again
- Pull off a 50% on the final by purely guessing
- End up with a 75% in the class & barely skim by

First! The fact that you managed to learn a whole semester of material in one week and then tested well is insane! wow.

I know right..now I have 3 subjects from a level ..finished the syllabus for two of em..have one more to go and imma gulp down all the exam papers I can within last 4 days

I have had classes at 5.30 am and I had to be ready to board the buses at around 4.45am itself !
Think about if we set a week to do this for every class. Every one could finish college in like 5 months instead of 4 years

I’ve done this before and that’s why I make sure to attend every class. Well, I used to, now I’m just working on my thesis. Don’t skip a class even if you think you know the subject. Chances are, they might introduce something you don’t know which will determine your future going forward in that class.

well I have 5 2nd year uni exams coming up in 2 days and I literally started watching the lectures recordings for the first time a day ago and thats only for the 1st exam. I havent even looked at any of the next 4 exams, plan to take them on one at a time. Wish me luck, did a very similar thing last semester ended up surprising myself with very decent grades even pulled one 70%.

I've been taking 9am classes since freshman year. Actually we are given these 9am classes. Also my uni is 45 min away from my home so I travel daily by bus so wake up at like 6am and then catch the bus 7:30am(its the only bus available or I'm gonna be late for the class) and I reach home at 6pm. It's so tiring.

I dont’t blame you the Digital Systems Logic class was difficult for me too ...
I skipped class because I felt like it was no use since I was essentially teaching myself after so what’s the point. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But then - ___ - he noticed not many people were coming to his class (there’s was only 10 including me) so he graded attendance as part of participation.
So I decided ok fine... I’ll come to class and do the best I can, so I did worked through it... used all the resources available to me online and end up getting an A- for effort... because I think my professor knew he wasn’t the best teacher... :D
All I’m going to say is...
“You got to do what you got to do “ (as long as you do your best ofcourse :D )!

Why does everyone hate 9 am class? Freshman year of college i had PROGRAMMING class at 8 30 in the morning and you were not even allowed more than 5 mins of lateness...people who did come late by 7 mins still got kicked out.

That midterm is me for every Calc AB test and then the final is every time I retake every test where I can get full credit 😅

Any highschoolers watching this, there is a Project Lead The Way(PLTW) course available called Digital Electronics (DE) if you are interested in pursuing engineering. The PLTW course goes something like: Intro to Engineering Design, Digital Electronics, Principles of Engineering, and Civil Engineering and Design. Ask your counselors if they offer that. Maybe you could find your career option or something. :D

I've done this for a few classes now and have done well on all so far.. (knock on wood) It just depends on how you learn best - I prefer to procrastinate and cram everything in a few days rather than go to class 3x/a week for 3 months, and I hate when people judge me about it like if it works for me let it beee :)

From my experience Digital Logic was a pretty easy class, especially after you learned all the gates and how they really worked. When you get to encoders/decoders it gets a little tricky, but other than that.. what you are doing seems pretty do-able as you found out :P (at least for this class...)

I think this basically means: a. get help from other people; hoofing it alone is hard. b. do a lot of practice.

In Germany all classes are Dutch Knockout. You can write an exam three times and skip classes as much as you want. It's so hard to even go to uni haha

You only need 8 hours to get decent marks for one subject.(at least for me)
Just 8 hours? Nah mate I doubt it. Unless you are talking about never missing class and 8 hours of individual study, that's entirely possible (I've also got perfect scores in some subjects with literally 0 hours of independent study just because lectures were extremely clear). If you're talking about just 8 hours and nothing more (no lectures, no discussions, no ...) then that's not going to work in 90% of university classes.
It depends heavily on the subject and how the exam is structured but try getting decent marks in Anatomy with 8 hours of study, that's virtually impossible. There is too much material to cover.
Many maths exams are also impossible to prepare decently in 8 hours, take any course with a fair amount of proofs and I am willing to bet that you wouldn't be able to pass, let alone get decent marks.

Never skip class unless you know the concept by heart. If you r too tired, just go to class and watch the lecture, but dont ever skip the class. One small detail can snowball you to death.

I haven’t really taken many classes yet but I do have questions? Is it easier to take morning or afternoon classes and why classes do you think freshman’s should all take?
Idk if you’re a commuter or living on campus, but i’m currently a freshman in his second semester of college and I had a 9am class last semester. In all honesty, it depends on the subject. Personally I would hate to have math as early as 9 am. (11 or later is fine for me). My 9 am class was enc 1101 and I had to travel 25-30 mins to campus every day and it was fine. If it’s an easy class then go for it, but if you are gonna take an early class that might be challenging for you and they offer a later time, i would choose the latter. Good luck.

Just go to class. I know some days its annoying and you might feel shitty, but go anyway. It's amazing how lazy so many people are or just DGAF in general. Mostly everyone's parents are paying for it, combined with financial aid. So if you're skipping class, you're literally throwing money away. Not to mention the thousands of kids who would kill to have the privilege of going to college in America. 9am classes aren't even hard. I commute and have 8am class every mon/wed so I have to be up not later than 6am...Especially in the dead of winter when it's 15 degrees before the sun comes up.
