  • In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

The issue is too often swept under the rug as in my family. You are brave and I believe you will make a difference with the gift you have for speaking and bringing awareness. Stand strong young man, God bless you and your family as you carry this torch.

Thanks for your talk. It’s so correct! Being diagnosed as schizophrenic at 21 instead of bipolar and being medicated to zombie- ville and hospitalized was a lot and very demeaning. So many people avoided me because of my behavior, especially the manic phase. I wish I had a friend as understanding as you by my side. I had some, but knowledge in the field was so primitive so nobody knew what to do. My father urged me to pull myself up by my bootstraps. He just never got it.
So being the son with the mental illness is also hard. I know how my disease has affected those around me. Thanks for showing your strength in dealing with his illness and thanks so much for your talk!

I would believe that we as humans have evolved... The day when mental health would be given as much relevance as physical health!
Ur story brought tears in my eyes! Thanks for sharing!
Hearing u was a very enlightening experience for me as a psychology student! And I guess that's the difference between simply reading and actually feeling it! I felt it and for almost 9 minutes, I lived ur pain! Being mentally ill should be considered as much normal as physical variations!
And we need to be more understanding and more empathic towards such people!
    All power to u! 🙏

Thank you Theo. Your insight and compassion for your Dad is as amazing as you are. I suffer from Bipolar 2 disorder and If just one person in my family took the time to learn more about it, I wouldn't more times than not, feel so alone and hurt. I know they love me but they believe I'm the only one that can fix it. Your father is so blessed to have you as a son and you have shown you too are blessed by having him as your Dad. I pray God continues to bless you and your family and want you to know hearing your powerful message has been a great blessing to me and I'm sure so many others. You indeed have a bright future. Thanks again from my heart....

Very intelligent insight into mental illness. The stigmas and stereotypes are very real. The ignorance and condescension toward those with mental illness is irritating. Thank you for informing the world about the truth so we can progress.

I really feel for this guy. But also as a young man, what we "NEED" is someone who has both studied and experienced this over a long period of time, to asses the complicated material at hand. We're getting ahead of ourselves just a bit, in conclusion, unless that's not obvious. Hence one of the reasons why we are at this confusing point in society. No offence to the speaker; but even the "patriarchy" demands a better assessment, given to the complexity of: age's vs society's.
