  • Come check out which skimmer I chose; it may be the quietest skimmer I've ever owned! We are up to six fish now, so figured it was time. I sacrificed some on sizing of the skimmer so I could make everything fit with a little room for growth down the road. The skimmer is working really well since break in!

    They are virtually silent. I have never encountered a more quiet skimmer.

    I got the same one. It's a great skimmer keeping the water line at the bottom ( O ) of octo is the prefect spot full air and dial set at 2

    I have an Ultra Reef skimmer and they have some of the nicest on the market in my opinion. If this doesn’t work out, I highly recommend them. They have a smaller size one with a similar foot print as this.

    Mmm skimate smooties . . . Lol, im running a Simplicity 120DC skimmer, its way oversized, but i got it free basically, so im using it on a timer to run at night.

    Man you are absolutely right about skimmers taking all the nutrients out the tank. I was just having this conversation with a buddy. So now we run our skimmers at night for a few hours. Nutrients is back up.

      Well with that being said. Your tank being so new I probably wouldn't use a skimmer period right now or only at night.

      @@mopar_shawn939 A few years back I actually dosed skimmate back into my tank to help raise nutrients, 😂…I actually value the aeration they provide almost as much as their main goal of nutrient export.

      @@zburnreefing Yep you have a point. Can't forget they serve more than one purpose. Never thought about dosing skim back into the tank. Did it help the nutrients?

      Yea, it increased nitrates and was easier to do then feeding more. At the time I didn’t have a larger tank so didn’t want to overstock the tank, but rather than do that now, I’d just only run the skimmer part time.

    Small skimmer is the way to go. I have Oct 130 on redsea 250 to big it skim well but after a month does nothing turn it for a month and back on.

      Thanks for chiming in. Yea, I use to run a skimmer on a timer as tank just would get too clean and corals would pale out. We’ll see how my undersized strategy works out.

    What height of water is it sitting in

    • @zburnreefing
      @zburnreefing  Год назад +1

      Nearly 9 inches at the moment. So a little on the deeper side from what is recommended for this skimmer, but it is skimming well so have just left it at that height for now.
