- Doing a full review and comparison between the eleventh doctor's sonic screwdriver by the Celestial Toystore vs the 12th Doctor's sonic screwdriver by the wand company.
Both of these Sonic Screwdriver replicas are based on the sonic first seen used by Matt Smith and then used by Peter Capaldi in his first season as the Doctor.
This is the only design of sonic screwdriver with the iconic flickable extending emitter and these are the two most available (and similarly priced) metal replicas of the sonic.
We'll take a full look at all of the design elements to help you work out which one to add to your collection.

The wand company did make an 11th doctor verison but the 12th doctor one is better because the wand company 11th verison didn't extend. But overall when talking about both sonics in this video I prefer the CT verison
Yeah I used to have the wand company 11th and it was good but a bit of a shame it didn’t extend. They made huge improvements with this one and for the original price it was incredible - just now with the after market price the CT version wins out
@order66collectibles and the CT one wins because it resembles the prop more wheres the wand company one due to battery placement makes it more bucky then the prop
Imma stick with my wand company sonic for 3 reasons
1. I got it on eBay for 83 dollars
2. It’s my first sonic screwdriver that is actually nice
3. IT CONTROLS MY FREAKING TV!!!!!

I definitely think this is a fair comparison, but I feel like it's worth taking into account the intended price as opposed to the resale price. The CT was priced around £500 seemingly, the Wand Company was £69.99
Oh 100% agree with you. I was more hoping to help people make a distinction and decision based on current prices but if you took the wand company one for its original retail I’d be saying pick that up every time 😊

Just the love and care put into both is something both companies should be proud of. ❤ The blue print manual of the wand company was inspired while the silver case of the celestial toy store is beautiful.
100% agree - both are great pieces. If you could still pick up the wand company version for the original price (which was around £60 I think) it would take the prize but the celestial is the winner for now I think
I'd say your talking points were almost completely fair, with the one thing I'd point out being that the electronics of TWC's sonic are what FULLY sold me on the device (granted, I only had to pay £150 for it so that also helped LOL)
The fact that it has the feature to turn on/off any TV (or really most electronics that take an infrared signal) is what makes it my favourite sonic, even if the design itself is super inaccurate. It just makes it feel like a real, functional sonic when I can go into any tech store and turn off any TV for the laughs.
Yeah that's what a few people have said - if i can find one with fully functioning electronics I might do a bit of an update but at the moment mine only registers the battery when it is stood in the display stand.....and then only when it feels like it lol. It just started going off the other day at 2am!
I do love functional sonics - i keep looking at the ones that are actual screwdrivers and debating grabbing one of those but they don't tend to have any electronics :(
You’d think with all these rereleases of a pics we’d get another river sonic and master laser sonic.
I'm waiting for surreal entertainment to put out a river song or a master sonic but I guess we'll have to see. I really want a metal version of river's sonic though more than anything
@@order66collectibles given how I don’t own either of them. I’ll take a surreal entertainment one. Maybe with a little more attention to detail. I have their 11th and it is way too sensitive.

I just wish the electronics worked on the wand company one so I could have tested that too but the main thing is the difference in build for me - have you put your CT order in?

I got the wand company one when it was released paid around £80 for it, at that price it’s well worth it to have a more prop style version
That’s a fantastic price - the original retail price for the wand company sonics was great and made them a no brainier. Just a shame you’re looking at 3-5 times that price on the aftermarket now

Great video! I might try to pick up a Celestial Toystore version if I can find one for a reasonable price, as it seems more screen-accurate. However, I'm not as keen on the bulb color; it doesn't seem to be as bright as the Wand Company version. Also, while browsing eBay for sonic screwdrivers, I stumbled upon a listing by skyst-2009, a seller known for offering both bootleg and potentially genuine sonics. The listing featured a 12th Doctor Sonic with chrome accents and also seemed to feature multiple green, blue, and red light settings. Priced at around £50, it's titled 'Doctor Who 12th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Twelfth Doctors Screwdriver Exclusive.' After some research, I found only two videos discussing a chrome 12th Doctor Sonic-one from several years ago where someone modified their sonic, and another by 6sek on March 28, 2024, discussing a similar listing from a different seller. It appears there are now likely bootleg versions of the 12th Doctor Sonic available. I've decided I'm gonna buy one to see what its quality is like. If it's of similar quality to the 14th Doctor Sonic I previously bought from this seller, it could be interesting, as I've never seen a chrome 12th Doctor Sonic before or one with red lights.
Thanks so much :) The Celestial Toystore one is the best metal version I've found (albeit I haven't yet seen the elusive rubbertoe in person). Yeah the bulb is probably my biggest issue with it though I know there is a guy on instagram who can replace the bulb with one more akin to the wand company one so I might look into that.
Its interesting that you mention that 12th doctor listing - I saw that and picked one up for review but i'm particularly interested because the original producer of that version of the sonic put pre-orders on facebook and I bought one direct from them. The one on ebay looks like it could be a bootleg of that custom version. The 'original' should be arriving today and I'll be doing a full review and then the ebay bootleg should be arriving by the weekend so I'll do a full comparison of them both. Really excited for it to arrive because the sound font accompanying the red setting has the rising pitch that I've always wanted

I think for the features and how nice it looks I prefer the wand company one, probably just a preference but I like the lighter copper look. Awesome stuff :D

At the end of the day all of these sonics come down to personal preference really - has to be something you like especially if you’re going to drop the kind of money these go for 😊
Also the wand company one is good for display and fun to play with
I would commit various crimes for the chance of owning a replica like the CT or a RR one day
lol! Small crimes though right?! CT are still selling them and have enough to make about 20 before they run out of parts

Nice video! It’s crazy the prices that the 12 WC fetches now, and yes I paid that silly amount.
I do like both, but the CT is better built but I like both for different reasons.

Thanks so much :) I thought the WC prices would drop but if anything they seem to be going up and their popularity isn't dropping - seemed odd when you consider you can grab a brand new CT for pretty much the same price.
Following in my grandad's footsteps - instructions are made to be thrown!
Now if only the Celestial Toystore sonics hadn't taken a dive in quality recently...

For me I like the button and the handle of the wand company one cause on the celestial one the handle looks dirty to me even though I know in reality it’s not dirty it’s the color picked and how it’s made but the celestial one looks like overall a slightly better made sonic even though the handle color makes it look dirty and the button looks like it could ding into your thumb when pressing it they could have put a small cover over it and it might have been a bit better
I know what you mean about the resin colour on the handle - it’s a dark colour rather than the light cream of the wand company. I wish the wand company one hadn’t opted for the rubber section instead of leather because personally that’s the bit I like the least
@@order66collectibles i totally get what u mean cause the didn’t even bother to shrink the rubber to make it fit properly but I do like the red bulb option on the ct one even though I don’t think Matt ever used a “red” setting on his sonic but I could be mistaken about that
The reason why it looks dirty is because it’s meant to! The yellowing is recreated to resemble the effect that occurred on the props after being handled, they would discolour due to skin oils, so CT represented that by on purpose colouring it as such.
If you get a RR and handle it enough, it will naturally discolour and end up looking like the CT does.
@@1927deano yeah I thought that was the case though I think CT have adjusted the colour over time. I’ve seen reviews from a few years ago that had much lighter handle sections and CT then replaced them
@@kevin10001 yep agree with everything there. I think Matt used the red setting once in one episode for about 30 seconds and that’s it
