Well the dynamic lifter does have a little bit of blood and bone in it also so all we do is add some SOP sulphate of potash to the dynamic lifter and we use one handful for about three steps in a field. But then during the growing season of the potatoes we apply the same mixture again before we hill them up
Potassium sulphate is great to add after 1 months of growth. Muriate of potash is cheaper but has chlorine. Chlorine is an essential nutrient just not in those quantities, but it will flush out of the soil with rain and snow if applied in fall after harvest. Potassium is relatively immobile in soils.
Just because we have always used it and our crops seem to do excellent. Not sure where your from but probably the best known horticulturist/gardener ever in Australia, Peter Cundall once recommended it to me and I have never forgot that advice. Everyone has a personal favourite and potash is mine for the results we get .
Oh yeah… I forgot to mention that potash also helps plants cope with stress in drought . You may or may not know that Australia is a very dry continent and we are always struggling for enough water .

Our farms reputation at growing potatoes is , and I say proudly, beyond reproach . So good luck with potatoes you grow and I hope you have success too

I'm curious why you prefer Potash over Phosphorus for root crops (potatoes, carrots, etc)

Yeah we usually start planting in last 2 weeks of winter . Then by the time they come up all the frosts have finished
