The Easter Festival is an internationally renowned event among classical music lovers, traditionally opened in Moscow on Easter Sunday. Each year the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and its musical director Valery Gergiev travel across Russia - for the past 10 years now!
In 2012 we were given an exceptional musical gift: the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev performed the complete cycle of Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonies and piano concerti - a composer with whom Maestro Gergiev and the orchestra seem particularly in tune.

It''s a shame that i haven't paid attention to this symphony before. its apparent lightness is deceitful, and that emerges clearly as long as its bitter end is approaching. The final bars left me in utter tears.
С тех лет как был студентом музыкального училища влюблен в эту гениальную музыку. Столько ясной сосредоточенности, светлых лирических чувств, радости и здоровой силы, сколько и должно быть в молодёжи, стремящейся свершить достойное открытие в полезном деле. Браво маэстро, благодарю Симфонический оркестр Мариинского театра.
Обожаю Маринский Оркестар и маестра Гергиев❤❤❤Привет из Сербии.

RUclipsの徘徊老人の朦朧としかけた魂を呼び覚ましてくれるような名演奏と鮮烈な映像です。この曲に初めて遭遇したのは1955年ころ「音楽芸術」という雑誌でありました。この作品が発表されると評価は賛否両論。まだ第1交響曲や第5交響曲しか知らない一地方の音楽フアンに大変興味のある論争でありました。実際にLPで聴いた印象はあまりに平易な内容で驚いたものです。プロコフィエフの鮮烈なモダニズム？は影を潜めそれでいて一度聴いたら忘れられないテーマとアイデアに富んだ構成に脱帽ものでした。（特に終楽章に第1楽章のテーマが朗々と回帰）後々プロコフィエフ自身が「青春交響曲」と呼称していたことを知りました。

My second favourite, the 6th remains my first choice.

Exquisite music, one of his best by Prokofiev. Goes to the depth of you being.
Yes Gergiev is so serious - People did not even dare to cough in between 1. and 2. movement-

ONE CAN HEAR THE INFLUENCE OF DEBUSSY, LA MER, IN THIS MUSIC. TCHAIKOVSKY ALSO BORROWED FROM FRENCH INFLUENCES OF THE NOW DEFUNCT IMPRESSIONISM. THE ORCHESTRA PLAYS WITH BEAUTIFUL REFINMENT AND ORDER.

How this orchestra picks up the tempi from this conductor ...is a mystery to me. ... You can tell they don't watch him very much. ...
I guess they could play it in their sleep.... but every now and again you get a lack of togetherness. ...
They don't need to - they generally played 800^800 concerts with him and specifically this piece slightly fewer .......And didn't hear any lack of togetherness , just free of stiffness......
Me neither, it's just something you work out with a team since 1978. Having seen them live with a very military precision is mind blowing.
He makes such wierd gestures, it's better that they ignore him.
THE OPENING HAS NICELY CONSTRUCTED CLASSICAL STRING WRITING.
NO 20TH CENTURY EXPERIMENTAL NOISE. IT´S REALLY MUSIC AND COULD WELL BE VERY GOOD MUSIC FOR A BALLET. THINK OF TCHAIKOVSKI´S ROMEO AND JULIET, VERY SIMILAR IN MANY REGARDS.

You will not hear a better performance of this wonderful symphony anywhere. It's a remarkable orchestral composition from beginning to end and the final wonder stroke by Prokofiev is the return of the beautiful 2nd theme of the 1st movt. in glorious orchestral "multicolour" towards the end of the last movt. My favourite Prokofiev symphony ( along with the 5th) . To add to that there's the brilliant audio quality that allows you to hear every instrument. Bravo! . Special mention....kudos to the 1st trumpet. Brilliant!
No, I can find a better performance, for example, Sokhiev in 2017

Лично для меня лучшие - пятая и седьмая. Первая, впрочем, тоже гениальная, как и все симфонии Прокофьева, да как и всё его творчество, вся его музыка!)

The gesture for the last pizzicato came 2 beats early. ... the orchestra ignored him.
It often happens in videos and movies that the video is not completely synchronized with the audio.
There were no edit at all. I know it, because made this sound. And I know what you are talking about. Can you find any orchestra which can play this symphony just with that small mistake?
That's REAL life performance. (Without rehearsal and patching).
Jean Martinon with the Paris Orchestra (many years ago!) remains the best. This symphony is full of mistery and Gergiev does'nt show it.
