So, Siskel and Ebert are notoriously known for spoiling films during their reviews. However, they asked the studio for footage of the film for the review. What the studios send is what they show.
to be fair, the studio sends them clips of what they will allow to be shown on their review program. Clips that arent in the trailers or even given to other critics. S&E were special.
@@Shorty_Lickens Who cares? Would you show the ending of a film if you were them without a spoiler warning?? They basically told you that Jack Lemmon was killed.
I was really surprised how unconvincing The China Syndrome was to me. It seemed cheaply made and Fonda and Douglas just didn’t make much of an impression.
Interesting that FastBreak’s collapse into a homophobic tangent that completely takes over the second half of the film and detracts from the actual basketball storyline didn’t bother them. The first half was decent but then it was just so bizarre
Before there was the utterly inaccurate clown show that was An Inconvenient Truth, there was the over-wrought, but just as inaccurate China Syndrome. IF ANY other Actress had starred--say Jaclyn Smith or Lynda Carter--the film would not have come across as so offensively political. It could have been a taught thriller with any other actress instead of an inaccurate attack on nuclear power. The Deer Hunter is a brutal film. It features scenes that NO ONE wants to contemplate muchless do they want to SEE them on the big screen. Still, the cast was really good. This is one time that I do not think re-casting Streep would have helped the film. She is really good in this role. The director had a real touch that comes through in this film. He certainly deserved the noms he got.
@@raymondm.9954 Yes, China Syndrome was not a poorly written film, but Jane Fonda being in it simply politicized the wrong aspect. Without her, the story is more like a conspiracy theory, and that would have been both exciting and thrilling.
I like "China Syndrome" 👍👍👍👍very much and thought "Deer Hunter" 👍👍👍👍👍was a masterpiece from the first time I saw both movies as a teen in the 80s...dig Roger wearing the same shirt that Chris Walken's character wore in the movie lol
I can't believe they showed the final scene on CHINA SYNDROME.
I was about to make the same comment!
Two of the very best movies of the 70s here, China Syndrome and The Deer Hunter are sublime films. Both are just magnificent.
The Deer Hunter is something else.
what?
They're like............ "And now we're going to ruin The China Syndrome by showing you the final scene."

@@ThatOldTV How would they handle spoilers in 2022?

1:41 and hear's my colleague. Unfortunately, he hasn't won any prizes like I have
That was kind of an acknowledged running bit with them
I really liked Fast Break.
Fast Break is one of the best sports movies ever. Siskel & Ebert can pound sand.
I saw them filming a scene with Kaplan (and Bernard King?) in New York, playing basketball in a cage.
Gabe Kaplan went on to be a really successful poker player after "Welcome back" ended

Wayne Rogers had the Curse of the Actor that Leaves a HIT SHOW . That movie looks HORRIBLE . Same thing happened to Farrah Fawcett .
I REMEMBR THAT MOVIE IT WAS BRUTALLY BAD
DIALOGUE LOOKED LIKE A GRADE SCHOOL CLASS
Gene was in desperate need of a haircut here.
It was the 70s hair was a big deal.
Do you mean, "in desperate need of a haircut" in a Click-and-Clack sense?
I like The China Syndrome and Fast Break. I have only seen parts of The Deer Hunter.
