This song is from a Chinese competition called Singer in 2017. Dimash was the youngest participant (22 years old) and the only foreigner. He finished second in the competition, but won first place in the hearts of the Chinese people. I regularly watch the whole show, it's so amazing to follow Dimash's path through the competition. Btw. Dimash did not know English at all before the competition. Many Dears (myself included) think it sounds absolutely adorable when he sings in what we call "Dinglish". In every performance you can hear a pin drop bc he captivated the entire audience& draws you in to his very last note bc he is a performer who can also act,sing& dance. His latest is the 8 min video& new song “The story of One Sky” that he wrote the story& the song& the video supposedly cost him $7M to produce& the whole production took him 3 yrs from planning,casting,filming&editing. His English is great now. His Chinese...not so much. He says Chinese is harder.😆 English sentence structure is not the same as Kazakh or Russian, so he misses words sometimes. For example, instead of saying "I miss you very much" he says "I very much miss you" We love it. 🥰
If you know the background of this song - as likely you do, Jeff - you know that it was one of the last songs that Freddie Mercury brought to the fore. His band mates - due to the increasingly debilitating effects of his terminal illness - were actually sincerely, seriously concerned and worried about the stress performing it would put on their friend. The first part of this song Dimash's face and eyes are dull and empty, showing hopelessness. The second bit he uses a higher voice that sounds like a cry, showing the inner feelings "Inside my heart is breaking...". The next bit he sings with determination, not to give in but to keep going on with the show. The final part where he gives it his all, is the show! Going above and beyond! Some of Dimash’s I Am Singer 2017 performances were in my opinion his best. He was young, 22, innocent and mesmerising with the voice of an angel and the stage presence of a seasoned performer. FYI, Dimash had only a smattering of English here and learnt the song phonetically - brilliant performance.🙏🏻🇦🇺

Oh, I like your reactions! It was so fun to see how you enjoyed Dimash's interpretation of the song. It's always exciting, because one can't really know for sure what he's going to do. It's the unpredictability that makes even a cover song so captivating and bewitching. As others have told you, Dimash didn't know a word of English (ok, thank you very much...) when he came to China (and no Mandarin either). Eventually he got better and spoke something we Dears called Dinglish (a language very dear to us). Today he speaks English with accent. A reactor said once: "May he never lose his accent! I associate the accent with his voice and somehow it makes the performance even more unique" (not an exact citation).

He have done some contests in his life but the one I think got the worlds intension is "The Singer" (Allso called "I am a singer" or "Singer") from China in 2017. The Singer is a program for established Chinese singers to face off against each other invites only in a competition where votes were cast by an audience of 500. Dimash Qudaibergen was a last-minute inclusion (a 'dark horse'). But his performance of 'SOS D'un Terrien En Detresse' electrified the audience, his fellow competitors and the viewers who numbered in the billions (this program was one of the most-watched in China and outside). They also got him the nickname "Imported little brother" the day after the show. They also had to get bodyguard for Dimash do to the famous over night both in China and also the world. Dimash wasn’t really prepared for that. He had come to China at 22 years young man by him self and didn’t know the language. They hade contracted him for 2 shows because they didn’t think he cold go further than that. He didn’t think they would like him. So he was nervous this performers that he had also to start the show with. But they hade to change that do to his famous over night. Dimash got many new friends from this show and he said at some point he learned a lot from it to. Yes it was a singing competition and yes those were his fellow contestants (feel sorry for them). It was "I am Singer" (China) 2017 (he was 22 yrs old) and he opened the competition the 1st night, 1st performance with "SOS", which was AMAZING. I know you reacted to his 2021 version of "SOS", but in your free time, please check out his 2017 performance (perfection). It shot him to overnight fame in China, where he woke up the next day needing bodyguards. He went from total anonymity the day before, to being chased by a mob of Dears (not yet named at that point) the next day. Not sure if you know this, but when his debut album was released in China, it went platinum in 37 seconds. At this time he didn't speak English (barely) so he learned this song phonetically, that is why his pronunciation is not that great. I know you have reacted to his more recent performances, so you can hear how much better his English diction has gotten (he has worked hard). Did you hear that rock voice in the beginning when he hit that high tone, he only did it one time. But it was definitely a rock voice there. I'm curious of when he's original rocksong will come. Ok can we disagree. Love this song. Dimash is completely extrordinary gifted, however his version was lost in translation and lacking for me. Freddie's original still out numbers this rendition.
As an operatic student, I am worried for Dimash. Dimash continues to use unstable vocal technique in order to reach high notes, which results in him straining and losing resonance and vibrato starting at Eb4. At this rate, I guarantee that he will lose his voice within the decade. The responsibility for his unfortunate situation also lies with his fans, because they go crazy for his high notes that lack quality, which pressurizes him to continue to make sounds using flawed technique.

The first part of this song Dimash's face and eyes are dull and empty, showing hopelessness. The second bit he uses a higher voice that sounds like a cry, showing the inner feelings "Inside my heart is breaking...". The next bit he sings with determination, not to give in but to keep going on with the show. The final part where he gives it his all, is the show! Going above and beyond! Well, that's what I see in this performance. Thanks for your great reaction!

Some of Dimash’s I Am Singer 2017 performances were in my opinion his best. He was young, 22, innocent and mesmerising with the voice of an angel and the stage presence of a seasoned performer.

Oh, I like your reactions! It was so fun to see how you enjoyed Dimash's interpretation of the song. It's always exciting, because one can't really know for sure what he's going to do. It's the unpredictability that makes even a cover song so captivating and bewitching. As others have told you, Dimash didn't know a word of English (ok, thank you very much...) when he came to China (and no Mandarin either). Eventually he got better and spoke something we Dears called Dinglish (a language very dear to us). Today he speaks English with accent. A reactor said once: "May he never lose his accent! I associate the accent with his voice and somehow it makes the performance even more unique" (not an exact citation).

He have done some contests in his life but the one I think got the worlds intension is "The Singer" (Allso called "I am a singer" or "Singer") from China in 2017. The Singer is a program for established Chinese singers to face off against each other invites only in a competition where votes were cast by an audience of 500.
Dimash Qudaibergen was a last-minute inclusion (a 'dark horse'). But his performance of 'SOS D'un Terrien En Detresse' electrified the audience, his fellow competitors and the viewers who numbered in the billions (this program was one of the most-watched in China and outside).
They also got him the nickname "Imported little brother" the day after the show. They also had to get bodyguard for Dimash do to the famous over night both in China and also the world. Dimash wasn’t really prepared for that. He had come to China at 22 years young man by him self and didn’t know the language. They hade contracted him for 2 shows because they didn’t think he cold go further than that. He didn’t think they would like him. So he was nervous this performers that he had also to start the show with. But they hade to change that do to his famous over night.
Dimash got many new friends from this show and he said at some point he learned a lot from it to.

Just after they got out of that room Dimash turns to his father and asks if he did good! Gloria Wu's channel has the back-story about the song that is so sad and from a life story about a boy losing his parents in an awful way. Also you get to hear how Dimash sounds like then loosing his voice the day of the show!!! When he went on he didn’t know if he could sing. Looking close at the other contestants they where so worried about him. He lost his voice again after. Li Jian another contestant bought him a very very expensive Chinese medication for him so he could get better soon!

Episode 10 : 'Unforgettable Day' In Kazakh and I think some translation in Chinese to. If I remember correct he wrote the music to this one when he was 19 years old and lyrics by Oral-kosai Baisengir, who was a poet/lyricist father of a friend of Dimash. Also in this show another contestant "Terry Lin" that was about 51 years young here he considered Dimash a dear friend at this point. But Dimash started telling them al he was his father around episode 9 I think!! That is a big respect and love from his part of the world to call him! Terry was gladly accepting it. They are still that close and also invites each other to there concerts and sometimes singing this song in duet to. They sang it in Jackie Chang movie festival in 2019 and Jackie was choked in how good they were. Terry was known as an alien before Dimash and they have similar vocals to.

Participants in the 'The Singer' competition had a week to learn and arrange the song that has been chosen for them. Dimash didn't speak a word of English at the time and only learned the lyrics phonetically. It was the 3rd song in the competition.

"The Show Must Go On" was the 3. song in the competition "Singer2017". Participants have one week to learn the lyrics and arrange the song. Dimash did not speak English at this point.
This competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to RUclips ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. won).

Yes it was a singing competition and yes those were his fellow contestants (feel sorry for them). It was "I am Singer" (China) 2017 (he was 22 yrs old) and he opened the competition the 1st night, 1st performance with "SOS", which was AMAZING. I know you reacted to his 2021 version of "SOS", but in your free time, please check out his 2017 performance (perfection). It shot him to overnight fame in China, where he woke up the next day needing bodyguards. He went from total anonymity the day before, to being chased by a mob of Dears (not yet named at that point) the next day. Not sure if you know this, but when his debut album was released in China, it went platinum in 37 seconds. At this time he didn't speak English (barely) so he learned this song phonetically, that is why his pronunciation is not that great. I know you have reacted to his more recent performances, so you can hear how much better his English diction has gotten (he has worked hard). Did you hear that rock voice in the beginning when he hit that high tone, he only did it one time. But it was definitely a rock voice there. I'm curious of when he's original rocksong will come. As an operatic student, I am worried for Dimash. Dimash continues to use unstable vocal technique in order to reach high notes, which results in him straining and losing resonance and vibrato starting at Eb4. At this rate, I guarantee that he will lose his voice within the decade. The responsibility for his unfortunate situation also lies with his fans, because they go crazy for his high notes that lack quality, which pressurizes him to continue to make sounds using flawed technique.
