how does that amount of yellowing even happen, was it left in direct sunlight for years? it's crazy that it can be reversed too, without exec much trouble. I wonder if the bleaching (I think that's what retrobrighting is, basically uv bleaching the plastic) causes microscopic damage, like if it re-yellowed and you re-retrobrighted it over and over again would you eventually just ruin the plastic permanently?
It's so important to me that both before restoration/repair begins, he shows what's wrong with the devices in operation, and that when he's finished restoring and fixing them, that he shows them actually being used and tested in a game to see how much better they are. Means a lot to me. Such a lovely channel.

@Hidden Star but the hydrogen peroxide doesn't take away color. This done on yellowed colored plastic like pink hello kitty Dreamcast it'll bring back out the pink brightness it originally had.

I just wanna say that your videos are a great introduction for learning how to restore devices yourself. I've watched your vids for a couple years now, and got motivation to start repairing my own electronics. I'm still intimidated by repairing a motherboard, cause I never learned how to solder, but I've repaired four controllers on my own, thanks to you showing me how simple it is, as long as you keep track of the pieces you collect, and carefully clean the parts as you go along. So far, I've repaired two ps4 controllers, cause the dpads wore out. Turns out, it just needed a simple cleaning on the sensors with a qtip and IPA. I repaired my xbox series x controller, when it fell and snapped the clip that operates the right bumper. I had to get a little creative and use a little cotton fuzz with super glue (very carefully, I might add) to repair the clip, and now it works perfectly. And I've repaired my SNES controller that had a sticky button. Bit lame to end on such an easy and simple fix, but I never would've done any of that if I hadn't discovered your vids. I really appreciate your style, technique, and inspiringly simple step by step procedures, not to mention the humorous, yet professional editing. My next mission is to repair my brother's wireless ps2 controller. It's a third party, so I won't have easy access to a template online, but I'm motivated, thanks to you, to challenge myself. I hope you know how helpful your videos are, on top of endlessly entertaining, friend. ❤

For getting rid of yellowing, you should leave the pieces out in the sun instead of using UV lights. The sun has much more concentrated UV light than regular UV LEDs or lamps, and can speed up the process to a few hours. Edit: I just saw his game boy restoration and saw that he has already done this in the past. He must have done it with UV lights instead due to local weather or something that prevented him from using the son. I suppose I spoke to soon.
In the "slightly yellow" connector part, you can use hydrogene peroxyde in cream, its a hairstyle cosmetic and its very cheap. I used it in yellow parts in my Super Nintendo and worked very well. Nice restoration!!
If you want to un-yellow something you can’t submerge in liquid peroxide try the creme developer hairdressers use. Paint on a thin layer and wrap it in glad wrap to stop it drying, then put it in your UV box.

If you want to un-yellow something you can’t submerge in liquid peroxide try the creme developer hairdressers use. Paint on a thin layer and wrap it in glad wrap to stop it drying, then put it in your UV box.
