- 🔥 Welcome to The London Something Podcast , hosted by the iconic DJ Ron , where we chat with MC Shabba D , a veteran of Jungle/ DnB and the founder of the SASASAS MC fraternity. In this captivating episode, we dive deep into Shabba's inspiring transformational story, which has taken multiple turns, from featuring on a platinum-selling album in Japan to his entire young family being flown out to LA to record for an upcoming album.
Watch and listen how a schoolboy Junglist found a way out of a life filled with repeated petty crime and how from the earliest of ages was ridiculed by many for submerging himself in black culture.
We also get to hear how Shabba has found balance and tranquility in a world that's constantly moving at 100mph. He shares with us the positive impact that Reiki, Gong baths, and meditation have had on his life, which have helped him find inner peace and harmony amidst the chaos. Through his experiences, Shabba's life story is one of incredible transformation, and we learn about the man behind the voice that has graced the mic in Jungle/D’n’B and other genres for several decades.
So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the conversation as we explore Shabba's journey, how he overcame adversity, and became the successful artist he is today.

47 years old I still love drum and bass now as much as I did when I was 15 kool fm was the one for me and shabba absolutely one of the best in the game dj Ron aswell 100% 🙌
Big up Shabba. Big Up Dj Ron . Meet shabba with Remarc Jan 1994. I rang up rush fm. Entered a competition, me name got drawn out the hat , and I won Remarcs classic track " Ricky " him & shabba was in a beat up orange Metro , meet them outside the wax club in temple Mills Stratford 💪🏻💪🏾💪😄👍
Love this story 👊🏾
@@LondonSomething1994 Big up Ron. UR A BOSS DJ 🙌 😄👍Big up bruv
😂 a beat up orange metro never
Shabba is probably my favourite MC of all time those Ilford/Stratford bars are legendary big up for this one
Kindred spirit
Shabba was a role model to so many young MCs growing up!! I've gotta admit we have a rare set of Shabba on Defection FM from 1992 over Hardcore. He's been there from day dot and is a pioneer of the scene and the craft of MCing. I love these stories. I love how Shabba symbolises the multicultural melting pot of London and shared culture of our music.
You are the archive guy! Big up.
Not sure if it was your channel I think I heard a set of Shabba on garage once too
@@silewis9396 Yeah you're right we have his Kik FM sets on Garage in 1996 and then a set with him and Nicky Slim Ting and Plague MC on Deja Vu FM in 1999.
YES YES TAKE ME BACK , SQUAT💪🏻💪🏾💪 U SAYIN BRUVAAAA 😄👍💜💜
@@TrackiE-is-DeAD Yes yes bless up bruva!! I am glad they got to speak to Shabba. This was his best interview to date. Ron is a skilled host!
Respect bro love your channel
The more i watch these London Something Podcasts i realise, we were all* (edit)just estate kids, all of us, from the punter (me and my buddies traveling down from the Northwest) to the DJ's the MC's and the promoters thats why it worked so well, a Great British Musical Genre that we all built from nothing, together. I proud to be a part of it, along with the rest of you amazing people! UK people from every background.
Massive big up to DJ Ron for this episode. I've been a huge Shabba D fan since high school, playing Kool FM and Telepathy tapes on a yellow Sony Sports walkman in the playground.
When you're a teenager you're so impressionable so the MCs were like the voice of D&B. I don't know if some of these artists realise how much they have had an influence on the people that followed them. People talk about these "influencers" today with millions of fans on social media but how many of these people blowing up overnight on Instagram would still have such loyal fans 20/25/30 years later?
When Shabba was talking about the smaller Jungle events in 96 and 97 post-Jungle these were the times when Shabba and Skibadee were bigger than pop stars to me and lots of my mates. I've been a fan since then always hunting out any interviews and this is one of the best (if not the best) I've ever seen in all that time.
Thank you Ron for this series which has fast become essential viewing and thank you to Shabba for being so honest and sharing with us your story. ❤
Mate, Ron, I think that's the first RUclips video I've ever watched beginning to end uninterrupted, thats probably because (along with you) Shabba was a fkin idol to me man, still listen to his 945 sets EVERY SINGLE DAY. Bro, these interviews need to be at least Minimum 3 parts, 1 ain't enough man. Lovin em Ron.
Bigbup and glad you enjoyed it 👊🏾
Absolutely captivated the whole way through
Down with the motorola!!!!!!!
Shabba's energy is infectious. Great video/interview.
Rons good at what he does!!! He asks a question and then lets the guest roll with their answer n lets them carry on talking!!!
Yep very good interviewer
Always rated Shabba as the undisputed number 1 MC in Jungle/D&B and was lucky enough to be raving at One Nation’s, Jungle Fever’s, Telepathy etc during his peak years from ‘97-2000 - bumped into him a few times out and about and he’s always been humble and a nice guy. Massive respect to him - he was a huge influence on me and my mates in our teens and early 20’s and have many hazy memories of listening to rave tapes and Kool FM blazing weed. 43 now and still listen to Shabba’s older sets to this day. True UK legend 🇬🇧
RIP skibadee and stormin and Stevie hyper d .💯
Shabba's such a positive force for change and progression in the scene. How many people did Shabba bring through under his wing. The MC Convention gave so many MCs a break.
Gotta be one of the best interviews on this channel.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it.
Shabba is an ICON in British urban history. One of the leaders in hybrid culture post windrush. Big up Shabba Deenie
Shabba D what a legend ! The Lyrical Dappa! Loved this!!!! another wicked interview 👌🏼
♥️ 🎤 ♥️
Love these deep chats. There are no coincidences, it’s all energy 🧡
9:09 went from D to B....
... Ended up legendary in D&B
Absolutely fascinating. I was listening to the jungle from 94, raved from 1999-2003, Shabba was a superstar then in the scene, and just came across a joker with no substance when he met the ravers.. so I was expecting this interview to be a drag.
The real hero of this story is Momma Shabba, single mum holding down 3 jobs to give her kids the best, Disney Land, Florida, Sunshine resorts in Jamaica, bruv this was unheard of for yute from Hackney back then!
I never had anyone that n I had both parents. Shabba was blessed to have a mum like his
Didt know much about this fella. I kmow hes a g n the uk scene, i recently say his name on the wodnb tour. So ill get to hear him front and center. Really big for me. Djs i been following for years ,i fimally get to seeen. Yesssss brvvv. Thanks for this one dj ron
Another quality episode, I remember being loyal Kool FM discipline but always used to check Rush for likes o Shabba, Shockin , Sparks and Red Ant and then Shabba finally moved over to Kool......great stories on this one.....would love to hear some of DJ Rons old partne4s in crime like DJ SL and MC Moose
Redant, total legend
Badboy Shabba D!!!! Pure love for this guy
Grew up listening to shabba and skiba frm year 7 all the way till my early twenties
Just goes to show that this music we all love brings people together regardless of what you look like. Many thanks for this. Top stuff again Ron. Keep 'em coming!
Big up Ron everytime! Great podcast. I worked with Shabs for 6 years. I learnt a lot from being around him. Good times. Defo one of the good guys I met in the D&B scene 💯👊🏼 big respect
Yeah that life & utopia rave @ tasco warehouse in plumstead was 🔥 remember that Satin Storm PA "think.im.going outta my head "and LT Stitch did smash it that night with D Livin - "Why" tune..
ruclips.net/video/mT1SCBqG4Wg/видео.html - i remember being told it said "People are passing" and now i can't unhear it.
@DeTon8R500 we all called it the Nicholas parsons tune " Nicholas Parsons Nicholas Parsons" but years later realised she was saying " People are Starving"
Oh yes the tasco warehouse nathan way plumstead was a wicked venue desires and every picture tells a story
1 in a million
One of the best Jungle MC's back in the days without doubt!!
Used to do a Pirate radio from my room back in the 90's so was very interested to listen to this, listening to Shabba I feel really happy for the guy doing these good things with his life 🙏 long live Jungle 🔥 peace love and unity ❤️
Big up Ron, I love a new interview
Interview wish list: Grooverider, Bukem, Ray Keith, Conrad, Dillinga, Doc Scott, Calibre.
Big legend this guy. Killed every one nation set. Peak dnb mcing
Big up Ron everytime. This is the realest interview from Shabba. He's saying exactly what happened. 👌❤️
the underground music in the UK was something special, no other country could come close to the culture.
Shabba, Skiba and Stevie are really the goat’s in this. Big up Shabba every time best interview I’ve heard from him
That’s interesting!! Yes it is Shabba d ❤️
Love the reasoning between the two..DJ Ron lets the guests actually express themselves without interruption..love that👏🏾👏🏾. Big up yourself Shabba for sharing your life experiences. As always respect to DJ Ron.💯👊🏿
Went to Kingsland in Hackney with Shabba (or Daniel) and hearing him talk about Nightingale, Weekend Rush, Razzle Dazzle, wow, takes me back to my school days
Big up shabba dan don since day💙💙🙏
Gwarn daddy shabba and the Ron. Sick show. Straight TRU 💯👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
Them old sets on kool with the original sas (shabba and shocking) and maxwell d can never be beaten. The youth of today just dont understand what they missed!!
Shabba what an absolute super star, I remember Shabba from Telepathy at the Wax in ‘93, Shabba always at the core of jungle, he turned up one night at Bagleys, a garage night, ‘freakin you’, he got on the mic. the place went wild, the cross over was so unexpected and that’s what made it so great! Big up Ron these interviews are so fantastic, on many levels, as well as remembering the best times we had in the 90’s with stories from Ray keith, Eastman, Shabba, absolute gems, truly wonderful humans ❤️❤️❤️
Shabba was a rude boy since primary - Rush FM 92.3 ! Shabba and Shockin ! omg
What a legend. Thanks for bringing this Ron.
Another amazing story/interview Ron. Shabba's positivity is infectious watching that. For real. Thanks for sharing 😊
Cheeloppaloppa
I played with him over Hackney Downs Park when we were young'uns and he was a proper baller.
Man. What a great interview. Im from Dallas Texas pleasant grove area. I Remember in 09 randomly clicking on the shabba ranger koolfm video. All the guys over here love dirty south rap. When shabba started they all said "damn he goes hard" stayed tuned ever since
Shabba is and always will b the greatest.
Quality interview DJ Ron. Bless up. Seen Shabba many events, top MC. Really enjoyed the watch and listen. Thanks King.
Big up the Red Rover’s bless Shabba Ron seen
Great interview Ron, been hoping you get Shabba. The last part was the best for me. I get the impression he’s in recovery but doesn’t actually say he is. Im only saying this because I am as well and can recognise the journey of healing. If he is that’s great as it’s a fantastic journey and if I’m way off the mark it’s great that he’s finding some peace from whatever he’s been dealing with. Big up for this one Ron..
20 years performing at raves something has to give eventually.
HI Ben and thanks for reaching out as I wish you the best in recovery. He's not in recovery in the truer sense of the word but rather a version that nevertheless is about overall improvement via non traditional but certainly becoming more popular methods 🧘🏻♂☮💟☯
@@LondonSomething1994 Thanks Ron. Fair play to him. I recommend Chi Gong as well. Keep those interviews coming. Any chance of Frost, Die or Remarc??
Was a different perspective to what I expected. Wasn't really aware of the band thing. Thought he just broke through around 94 telepathy then just kept progressing through to 2000's. Mad he considered quitting 1997 that's around the time he blew up. Seems he always wanted to be more than a jungle dnb MC but it never quite took off. For me shabba was at his best in that dark 97-99 era.
His peak years
Certainly the lift off years - where he was smashing up one nation and slamming vinyl
Had a quick look at his zilch 123 vid!! Very different!
Love these interviews Ron, big up Shabba💪🏾 all the best.
Rob Stush
EZ Rob good to hear from you and hope you're well bro.
Another exposé on how that single minded focus can take you to untold places. Grasping opportunity and elevating the dream. We can all take something from this💪🌟💥❤️🔥
Amen Faye. Narrow minds lead to narrow experiences. London bitd all sides was so culturally and musically rich its mad when I think back.
@@AdamTheAd-vanc3d I agree the sounds that came out of the big cities was unrivalled 🤜🤛
@@FayeCNL 100% , even within the cities every little part had its own flavours.
Very very good interview. Nuff respect Shabba👊🏾
Mc shabba d ...legend ! ..best mc jungle and drum n bass will see along side ....skibadee dett fearless ..top mcs in this genre ...
Love this series big up Ron & Shabba
The best white mc to touch the mic lyrical dapper
I'm sure I say it every time these just get better and better! Great insight into Shabba's life such an interesting story. Thanks again Ron keep em coming.
Now this is what I'm talking about....Shabba D!! I'm already running late for work because I'm hooked.
Big up Ron and Shabba..."born and me groooooow"
Another great interview, love it, big up Dj Ron nuff respect keep em coming, 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Kick Fm..lol that's really back in the day.i remember when Shabba and Yardie was on Weekend Rush and Kick Fm good old days🙂
Awesome interview Ron and Shabba. Big up yourselves for this 👍
Been a fan of shabba since i was 14, didn't even know he was white till i was 16 17 😂 definitely a VIP in the scene. Influencers back in the day had a deeper impact on ppl because we understood the struggle to be heard, plus radio was a risky business and knowing that made it more interesting, more entertaining and it gave ppl from the hood somen positive relatable vibes and energy which we all needed as youngsters. Life wouldve been so sh*t without the underground music at that time. Radio was Our RUclips, it was a different era. We saw these guys as the ghetto super stars! This interview was important 🙌 big up Dj Ron!
Big up Ron brilliant interview every one has been special in its own form but this one talking about shabba and his life Big up and the difficult stages in his life brilliant. Big up shabba talking about kool fm and weekendrush and it's good that weekendrush has relaunched for a while now I feel blessed playing on here Big up Ron
From responsibility to healing I’m feeling all that. Great episode once again 🙏
Big up Ron another classic interview bringing back so many flashbacks much appreciated !
Shabba was the original pirate radio mc in east proper trailblazer few times I met him in his ragga turn ups which was the style in them days he was always respectful and focused
so many Hackney man was influenced by sound clash tapes stone love bass odyssey metro media kilamanjaro not forgetting station fm running it from nightingale also remember Dica doing his CB radio in Pembury before Weekend Rush days mad times !
*edit* last 20 mins is inspired.
Not watched the whole thing yet, but it's funny how all these performers say the 97-98 change in music meant they lost their way a bit.
That era was what got me and my mates into it. The seminal tapes we had from One Nation etc are all 97-98-99. Probably my favourite tape of all time is Swan-e and Shabba from 98.
I felt the scene evolved into something more exciting then, rather than changed for the worse.
Mad how we interpret it all so differently depending on perspective
See this was what I was interested in too. What we would consider the peak of those MCs and the music. I do wonder if really that dark switch came slightly after that period cos really that time was still all big tunes from the main camps like Dilli, V recordings, Bad Company, Ed rush etc.
But no other reference to all those massive raves and epic tape packs.
@@stephentrott I guess it depends on personal taste. For me the industrial sounds of BC, Ed rush, Ram etc of the era is my favourite.
Personally because that represented the era I fully discovered the music.
But if these guys weren't really feeling the vibe of say 1998-2002 they done a good job of hiding it. Pure Science, One Nation, Heat etc. They were electric times
@@Coxwaan my sentiment exactly. No way IMO he wouldn't acknowledge that period as the peak - it was too obviously good.
I just think perhaps they were trying to talk about the less obvious stuff and I suspect, like me, Shabs is no the best with dates and memory!
Those raves you mention were legendary though. Was fortunate enough to experience them all too.
Which swan e tape is that? For me the music wasn't as good in that era cos they moved away from the amen break which is what I loved. Still a great era though and probably the best for MCs overall. Although hyper d in the jungle era was my fav.
@@stephentrott it didn't the dark period was 97-99. It was the peak for MCs but preferred jungle amens few years before that. Techy two steppy sound wasn't as interesting for me even though there were loads of great tunes in that period.
Yet again a brilliant podcast big up dj Ron for bringing this one mc Shaba is an amazing person thanks again Ron keep them coming bro
Great interview ❤
Best episode yet for me.
Ron.Keep these coming mate they are so interesting and insightful.I love watching them.
Big up Shabba too 👌
Good interview ron and respect to shabba mc love the mans energy on stage.
It would be brilliant if you could possibly get the like of five o - moose and navigator individually them along with the ragga twins are my all time fave mc's from down south.
Bass man and trigga from the midlands and up north
Navi actually got me through lock down with his junglist work outs that him and high harper were doing online so i gotta big up navigator for that 🙏👊🏽👍🏾
Thank you and I look forward to getting on as many as possible from your list.
Excellent! 👊🏾
Brilliant interview always been a top mc .....has anyone got a link for the Japan and band vids tia
Awesome .. same age group walked through era after rera following this man .good work ron
What a wild story 😮
Massive Big UP!

Brilliant interview 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Yes Ron, big interview.. What a story Shabba !!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Beautiful episode Ron, this podcast has become my favourite listen now. Staying away from the typical rave stories (which are great don't get me wrong) has created a unique insight into our scene's most important people. Thank you
Which ones for rave stories?
Loved this. Very inspiring and you can tell why Shabba has always been successful because of the mindset he has
Awesome 👏🏼 ❤
Real G, real recognise real. Always kept it 100. Big inspiration since day. Big up !
Great interview.
great to hear what was said in the last few minutes 🙏✨💎✨
“Murder mile” you know. My friends dad owned London Jaguar Centre on that road… once MC Det went mad in there coz his rear seats he swapped didn’t have head rests😂😂
Good soul
Shabba is phenomenal with lyrics, flow, voice & vibes. He is totally original and set pace. Many imitators since but nobody comes near. He is rare in that he is able to reach what is referred to as overflow and time it with the perfect part of the tune when Im Ride da Version
You can tell Shabba enjoyed this. Great interview
Amazing interview Ron. Would love to see Eastman up soon - he would have SO MANY stories and I always find he's a very engaging speaker.. IC3 would also be really interesting - I forget that he has been around since day dot too - was on Kool since 96 as well and haven't really heard many interviews with him. Great work!
big up shabba, nice one ron 👊
Cool journey back in time!!😎😎
Love this .....Rate Shabba so much. I'm probably the same age as him and have seen him grow from a boy to a man. He always had us hyped in the rave. I'm from Hackney Clapton too ❤
Rebel MC needs to get his flowers. An interview with him would be great even though you need a three part series haha.
Oh my lord, nailed it bro, personal hero of mine
@@Baber1 He was and still is a massive part of the Jungle scene and has continued to champion it. He brought through the Sound System MCs and artists like Tenor Fly, Top Cat and Peter Bouncer. Under the names: X Project, Blackstar, Congo Natty, Lion of Judah, Tribe of Issachar, are all his aliases. That's not even mentioning his flourishing career and success before in the 80s. The man is so humble and always looked to help others. My complete and full respect and admiration of him. I have also gotta say RIP Tenor Fly he'll never be forgotten.
Bro he is the reason, with DJ Ron, that I was, am, and always will be a junglist. Simple tings. Dem man changed my life and they never even met me or knew that I existed! I still remember hearing TRIBAL BASE for the first time walking down the road as a young asian (13) in 1991 blaring out of my friends speakers 2 doors away from my house ... I didn't know what it was called but I became a life long addict there and then, from that day to this...
@@Baber1 Your comment is deeply felt because this music brought us all together as one. It's not cliche to say we are all one. The whole vibe back then was that of oneness and togetherness and it was echoed in the music and the raves. I am eternally blessed to have experienced it and to have been positively shaped/moulded by it. You're not the only one who feels this way and certainly the level of embracement that this has brought in bringing our community together has been immense. Rebel MC really changed the game for people like us. I was so proud to see someone that I could identify with and relate to the amazing music he was making. He's a national treasure who somehow hasn't been credited enough. There's definitely something political if you ask me. There's definitely more of a greater need to interview and discuss things with him. He's a godfather to the scene and to the British underground scene as a whole.
Even more respect for Shabba after this interview. Opens right up, he's a real one.
So good 👏🏻
Nice to see mans humble like that&finally grounded💚👍
SASAS was mah 1st Mannheim rave experience&it totally got me🔥
Would love to see the lyrical content more develope a bit on stage now that times&minda clearly have changed.

This interview has completely blown my mind. Crazy when you when you learn the details behind the person.
Big ups to anyone passing through on this interview who used to live over S.E. London back in the early and mid 90s, Woolwich , Frances street all the Simba posse and Dockyard estate people. Charlton Crew, Equinox and the Hornfair crew Plumstead ( Nathan Way) , Tascos Warehouse and Thamesmead boys.
Shabba is an absolute legend, what a journey to put it lightly .
Massive salute to you DJ Ron for bringing these podcasts , its nostalgia , education and mad journey of the scene from different angles ❤🔥👌🏾
