Paul Butterfield: "Born In Chicago"

Join me to learn a bit about Paul Butterfield and his classic hit "Born In Chicago". D harmonica, 2nd position. This song was written by Nick Gravenites and released by Paul Butterfield. Be sure to check Butterfield's 2nd album 'East West'. It was one of my favorites.

"Paul Butterfield Blues Band" was his first album released in '65 which debuted the song “Born In Chicago" but "the album 'East West' was released shortly after and that's the one that I found first. The song "Born In Chicago" was written by Nick Gravenites.

There's at least a couple of versions. One I think of as a blues version, and there's a driving, rock 'n roll-like version.

Butterfield! Wow. In 1964/5 heard a few bands like the Stones and Yardbirds and maybe the best UK harp player at the time Paul Jones in Manfred Mann. Then I heard Butterfield and it just flew out of the speakers. His intense emotion was key coupled with tremendous fluency. Bring on the lesson please. That vibrato!
