    I liked the red uniforms and the way Kirk wore his tunic unbuttoned. They were a massive step up from the motion picture space pyjamas.

    Nice looking model. The Reliant is one of my favorite ships in all of sci fi.

    PS some of the fonts used are incorrect. Specifically on the nacelles.

    The reference packet Paramount supplies to licensors is based on a CGI model that has quite a few errors. I have the actual shots of the filming model taken during the DS9 Era they were scanned off of 4 inch chrome film. This is a nice version of the Reliant for sure. Nice work for a toy. It would have been great if the filming model was 3D scanned before being auctioned off.

    Really nice model. The Reliant is one of my favorite Trek ships and still holds up well after all of these years.

    Finally got around to acquiring an XL Reliant to accompany my XL Enterprise. I love they matched the scale for the two. One thing I should point out, if scale is important to you, the standard sized B'Rel and Romulan T'Liss ships are pretty close. Plus, the Diamond Select Excelsior is also Very very close in scale.

    Based on the amount of on-screen battle damage observed, I figured 1 megaphaser = 2 phaser turrets. The refit Enterprise had 18 phaser turrets, while the Reliant had 12 phaser turrets & 4 mega-phaser cannons. Also, on the Reliant, the torpedoes are probably stored centerline on the torpedo pod, since that pod is trapezoidal in shape, being wider aft.

    Funny thing about the impulse reflection crystal being on the bottom, that was not in the movie it was just a blank area in the movie.

    I double checked the original images of the Reliant, Eaglemoss needs to make the Reliant's name outlined in red (not white) to match the original "On Screen" appearance. BTW, I did receive the Defiant (NX-74205) from your first give away, THANK YOU. As soon as I get a working camera again, I will photograph it along with my FASA ships and big model of the Defiant that I am restoring. ( Camera died a few days before I received the model and I use an old cameraless flip phone.)

    Great Review....though, according to the blue prints published with the original AMT Ertl model lists that "Roll Bar" as the primary sensor array. I realize there are several Retconned changes but, it's better than a superfluous roll-bar.

  • @Riceball01
    @Riceball01 6 лет назад +1

    Very nice, something I wouldn't mind picking up even though I already have the smaller version. Btw, they might have messed up on the navigation lights on the primary hull. It looks like they're red on both sides when it should only red on the port (left) side and green on the starboard (right) side. However, I couldn't find any pics of the Reliant showing whether this is the case or not but it seems that all fan art and models have it this way.

    Loved the review, thanks! The bottom plate being out too far really irked you, so much so I lost count of how many times you creaked it. When you repair it so it sits flush, please be so kind as to share exactly how you did it. Thanks!

    Thanks for the detailed review. It's hard to justify £50 in the UK on a model that might not be glued together properly and has some detail errors. The back of the saucer/engineering section, looks like they just kinda gave up at that point: the detailing is way off the studio model. What's with the plain font Reliant below the impulse engine? Ugly. Missing out the phaser bumps on the saucer is weird. I mean I think for the money they want, the model should be bigger and better than it is. From what I've seen here this model does not deserve the shelf space with my (cheaper) Art Asylum 1701-A.

    I have the smaller version, with glaring mistakes on the markings, but I still love it just the same.

    A few drops of locktite or gorilla glue should fix that ventral hull separation. I have the xl defiant and the deflector was looser than a bobble head and needed to glue that and it's fine.

  • @frank4878

    I really want to love the XL's but man they just can't nail the paint, this is way better than 1701-A but still. The Issue #1 1701-D (smaller) one was so awesome but the really screwed up those first group. Tthey have improved over the years but I just can't support the premium cost for a substandard model. I'll stick with my old AMT 1/537 that I put together a few years ago. Hoping the DS/Art Asylum Reliant will knock it out of the park like the 1701-E and newer TOS Romulan Warbird.

  • @MigHound

    Does it scale properly with the XL 1701A?? If so, the saucer and Nacelles should match.

    Shame they couldn’t do this good a job on the large STTMP Enterprise.

    If you are not happy with the model, call Eaglemoss for a replacement. I had a bad copy of USS Voyager and they sent me a replacement immediately, no questions asked, no postage charge. I can't wait to get my copy. Ordered it the second I got the email message from Eaglemoss it was out in the US.

      Same experience here with a 1701-A. The nacelles were off the pylons upon opening the box. Got a new one shipped to me ASAP. ASAP was the customer service helping me out, the only bad news was the wait was as long as getting the first model.... almost 10 days USA.

    • @johnclark2849
      @johnclark2849 6 лет назад

      If you mean the small model, same here. That was a common problem with that model. I glued them on as I heard replacements had the same problem.

    Overall it's a great rendition of the reliant. Great size. I just might get one based on your great revue. Thanks Stuart! (PS Ironically, the "bad" Refit but "good" Reliant parallel the original model kit releases back in the day.)

    I've heard of customer delivery issues in the UK. I have seen the horrible renderings of the latest XL ships. Now deleveries take up to 2 weeks in the US! I just have to conclude at this moment that EAGLEMOSS SUCKS!!! I've decided I will no longer order from them again! I will just be content with what is released by DST and Round2 Models!

    • @markbernero9302
      @markbernero9302 6 лет назад

      Please disregard the statement made above. I am still an Eaglemoss Collector! I will probably order from Ebay or other vendor sites for faster delivery and continue to skip issues that seem subpar and get kits off those ships instead.

    I really love this channel, but sometimes I don't make it to the live streams and hardly ever have the time to watch them afterwards. So when well over 50% of your new content is live streams it gets under my skin a little bit. I still love the channel but in the nicest way possible Im trying to say lay off the live streams a little bit.

    I will never understand why all these companies that make replicas want to add colors that aren't there, or make them ridiculously bold, compared to how we see them on film. While a lot of the Reliant looks pretty good, i just can't with those goofy turquoise nacelles. That's NOT the way they are supposed to look, and is so offputting on this replica. It turns what could have been pretty good into looking like a cheap plastic toy.

    The writing on Starfleet ships bothers me: What does "USS" stand for (in Trek)? 'United Star Ship' (or 'United Space Ship, which isn't much better). So where it says 'Starship USS Reliant', what it's actually saying is "Starship United Star Ship". Dafuq?! ¬.¬

    • @cadsux
      @cadsux 6 лет назад

      Good points. That's why in the spinoff shows they often said "Federation Starship ..." Even funnier, in TOS, the Enterprise bridge had a plaque next to the turbolift stating "Starship Class". Some books refer to "United Systems Ship," similar to "United States Ship."
