    They got the warp effect right for the D. Titan had the Disco-A look. Viewscreen filters?

    • @SGUDistantHope
      @SGUDistantHope 9 дней назад +2

      Indeed, they had 2 versions of that shot, one was almost perfect and if i recall the other was less.
      Titan had the more Disco style.
      In-Universe, the Ent D would use old warp drive tech, so Titan "could" use newer warp drive tech VS say the SNW Enterprise but... that is unlikely given the ultra consistent look of warp between races/years.
      Viewscreen filters ha... thats a new one
      Heyyy Trek Culture :D

      @@SGUDistantHope Both versions of the opening shot of Picard's finale used the classic TNG era warp effect, well, Nemesis warp effect, the stars lacked the spectrum coloring of TNG, instead had the white stars like Nemesis. The "EU" version of the shot wasn't quite finished, but it had a more classic pan feel to it, while the official release shot was due to them deciding to release the last 2 episodes in theaters and wanted a more theatrical shot.

      @@ChrissonatorOFL Thats what i meant, the Nemisis style, not quite perfect :)

      @@elendil95 Fair enough! I think it removes a sence of "scope and scale" sicne you can see the phenominon (Nebula) your warping fast, this makes the visuals feel "small" as you see it all.
      Versus...you go into a self contained part of subspace and then leave, BAM your somewhere else.

    TNG-Voyager is definitely my favorite warp effect. Not only the actual being IN warp but the burst after they enter warp.

    I think Enterprise retconned the warp effect for TOS, since TOS simply had randomly floating dots going past, which were a little more uniform in direction in the remastering.

    • @SGUDistantHope
      @SGUDistantHope 9 дней назад

      Yep! Into a Mirror Darkly retconned it as the same visual canon from Pre-NX - Nemesis'.

    My favorite warp effect is from TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, and Lower Decks. I’d like to see them go back and do that same warp effect for TOS, TAS, all the movies, and the new streaming shows from 2017 going forward. That would bring visual continuity to the Star Trek universe, literally.

  • @jordanshred510
    @jordanshred510 9 дней назад +2

    Lower Decks used both the warp star flare and correct in-warp look of the stars, no?

    • @SGUDistantHope
      @SGUDistantHope 9 дней назад +1

      Yep! But that show was made by a Trekie and cannon loving showrunner.
      This is a reflection of LIVE ACTION Trek and a comparison with the other live action Treks of the last 15 years who have done "other" effects for Warp.

    With Picard, they were just anamorphic flares, which didn't really bother me. I just wish the Enterprise D was given the TNG flare, which I'm told was pushed, but stopped.

    Something I've wondered about: when an aircraft exceeds the speed of sound, it generally produces a shockwave known as a sonic boom. So, in Star Trek, when a ship exceeds the speed of light, is that flash of light supposed to be a sort of 'luminal' boom? And if so, would someone observing a passing ship at warp see the same 'luminal boom'?

    • @jasonwalker9471
      @jasonwalker9471 4 часа назад

      In Star Trek the ship never exceeds the speed of light. The warp field compresses space in front of the ship and expands space behind the ship. The ship itself travels through space at sub-luminal velocities, however.
      I don't recall their ever being an on-screen explanation for the warp flash, but it's reasonable to assume that the flash you see when they come out of warp is particle radiation that had been caught in the field and "bunched up" in the compressed region of space being released all at once. If you were able to create a warp bubble in real life, this would happen (and it would be very dangerous in real life. A superluminal warp field could potentially sterilize an entire star system with a radiation burst on-par with a gamma ray burst if the front of the field wasn't deenergized properly while exiting warp).
      I can't think of any reason why the warp bubble would emit a flash while entering warp. And if it does emit a flash, it should look different than the flash it emits while exiting.

    • @productNine
      @productNine 4 часа назад

      @ the real question is why does it make a “boom” sound?

      No in fact, the warp stars was almost the same, its just the ship "at warp" had blue/red Streaks. We have no idea how long this continued to be a "thing" in tech.

    • @wuushew
      @wuushew 9 дней назад +2

      No, we see the exterior of the Enterprise at warp en-route to Regula One in ST 2. We see the Excelsior at warp in the Undiscovered Country. The star streak effect is also shown on the viewscreen for the Enterprise-A on its way to Khitomer.

    • @ChrissonatorOFL
      @ChrissonatorOFL 8 дней назад

      @@wuushew Yea, Trek warp has never been consistent even in the original movies, etc. Excelsior has little dots going by, Enterprise has streaking stars. TMP and TWOK had little dots going by. ST3 just had fast flybys of the Enterprise.

    • @wuushew
      @wuushew 8 дней назад

      @@ChrissonatorOFL I am actually more interested in the visual effect of sub-warp in Star Trek 2 and 3. For instance there is visual star field motion when the Enterprise is ambushed by the Reliant that is flat out declared to be at low impulse speeds in spoken dialogue. Not the clear warp streaking either but somewhat an homage of visual look of many exterior TOS shots. I also wonder if the Enterprise is traveling at impulse in the few hours before reaching Spacedock after the intro credits. The warp chillers are not illuminated blue and the star field has a random and rotation look dissimilar to proper warp star streaking. We still see the classic warp streak in Star Trek 3 after Commander Kruge obtains the genesis plans and sets course for the Mutura sector.

    Not much of a fan of the 1990's visual design language and I don't mind them exploring for something "sensitively" updated that isn't Hyperspace.
    A little bit of a red/blue shift is nice I feel.

    Really not a big fan of some of these overdone, generic sci-fi warp effects we recently got. Would be so easy to just go for the old style, idk what the people in charge thought was wrong with it...

    an effects shot that could be interpreted as "the designer might have seen this somewhere before" isnt exactly a display of skill or attention to detail on the productions side

    Not just saying this to be a contrarian (because I hated this movie,show, piolet abomination) but I love that I can watch my nerd brothers just seeking out on the most tiny of manusha that actually means a lot and make this 45 year old nerd feel happiness in a warp effect or anything cool about any Trek no matter how it's received.
    You guys make me remember why I love Trek and that is the tiny details that make it fun to talk about.
    Also last thing and only good thing about S31 was the old rarely seen races like the half white/black species, and I hope they can have that continue if we get future Trek.
