      Not better than Proac though I'd wager

    Ribbons are for supertweeters imo. They just too dry, thin and wispy when asked to crossover from a mid bass unit. Good for air and locking in a centre image but gimme the dense smooth realistic sound of a good soft dome anyday

      Agree. The better way to lock in a centre image and realistic treble is to use a good grounding cable back into your wall outlet.

    Acoustic Alchemy. One of my favourite bands.
    Sound is a little bright and lean. The Harbeth sounds more natural than this.

      yes the sound is very clear, but a little bit kind of "cold"

      Alex Heinze the old proac response 5 or response 4 with atc driver sound warmer and better .

      @@ductritran8637 Yes, older ProAc were better, before 2005 (D15, Studio 125, etc.).

    Some modifications are needed. As this current sound will lead to fatigue really fast.

    Proacs with a ribbon tweeter and a Rega amplifier - only if you like sharp and bright treble. Extra sibilance. Not my cup of tea.

      How can you draw a conclusion about electronics by listening a video on RUclips?, most videos of the same kind sound bright

      Out of interest what type of amp would you pair with a ribbon tweeter speaker?

    • @yippie6862
      @yippie6862 2 года назад +3

      @@msdprojekt Something with a sweeter/warmer sounding top end than Rega. Perhaps a hybrid amp like the Unison research Unico 90. No global feedback, MOSFETS, and a tube/solid state design. Class A Sugden integrated amps or a Pass Labs INT-30. Depends on your price range. You can also use an all tube amp but ribbon tweeters usually like some watts and amps that can dip into lower impedances. So just make sure an all tube amp can do that.

      @@yippie6862 Thank you so much for the detailed reply. One of the reasons I asked is that I have a pair of Elac Vela BS 403 speakers, which has their jet5 ribbon tweeter and a Vincent SV 227 hybrid amp, so it’s good you mentioned hybrid amps. It’s sounds amazing with everything other than vocals which has lots of sibilance like you described. I’m just wondering if I should roll the three 12AX7 tubes which it uses in the pre amp stage, to try and solve this? The Vincent amp uses the first 10 watts of the pre amp as output and I only listen as low volumes so this could be the problem. It’s such a shame really as I love both the speakers and the amp.

      @@vicentemonsalve5884 Because I've owned both Rega and Proac before. I know their sonic characteristics. I personally would not pair the two together. Others may have different likes. For my ears the two together would be too bright sounding.
