Great video the Mid-Maryland Woodturners Club put out. Jimmy Clewes is a first class instructor. Love his English humor and good sense of well being! Thank you for posting this! It's a major help to a "newbie" like myself.
Bloody hell. Iv been turning for about 6 months now and iv got to say that Jimmy you are awsome at what you do and the turned peice is a peice of art. Well done sir i wish you uploaded more videos.
Jimmy is amazing and so likable. I joined his website and constantly re-watch all the instructional videos he's made. look fwd to going to Vegas and taking a class from him.
Someone who actually knows what they're doing. That's really refreshing, not to mention actually informative. I picked up the use of a bowl gouge by watching others and an instinctive feel for the way it's cutting, - but I can see watching this that that most of them really had no clue. Thank you, now I've got it, now I understand how and why it cuts better one way than another.
Wow! Jimmy, I have heard your name in the turning world for years but this was the first time I had seen you turn. Let me just sat that I agree with Al Furtado. You are a fabulous turner and have a great artistic eye, and you're humorous as well. Love the way you make turning look so easy. You are an inspiration!
I am back again after turning for a few (?) years. Wish i could give an additional "thumbs up" to this video. Learning a whole different set/level of info this time through. Thank you again!
I have enjoyed the last 6 minutes of the video, very mellow, calming part of it. But, my real enjoyment were the first 34 mins of it. Jimmy is very entertaining but highly educative at the same time. Great skills, great approach to the audience, fast cuts, but not fast on explaining what he is doing.... all of that makes these 34 mins not to feel like waste of time, but a great lesson to learn, and try by oneself. Thank you, guys, even that this is now 3 1/2 years old video.
Thank you, Jimmy. I've a feeling I'll watch this again and again to learn from it. As a Sunderland man it's nice to hear a familiar-sounding accent when watching a video from an American woodworking club!
Totally enthralled with your ability and presentation, very informative. A credit to the Tribes of Mersey! Thanks for your time and effort. Regards John
Brilliant video !! Makes me proud to be English! Such a good teacher, watching this man turn makes something like that looks child's play and it certainly isn't. Time well spent watching this video.
The final piece needs to be shown in detail! I wanted to see the balance. Excellent video. Jimmy does a sensational job and provides a constant stream of quality information. Thank you!
I love to watch a artist like you and Richard Raffen work. You all inspire all of us to try new things. I only one complaint from day one I have and was taught DON’T move tool rest with lathe running. That said you are by far the best turners I have ever watched.
Well explained. Made it interesting to watch and listen. Few safety issues but the positive is; you made me risk access through out the job. Congratulations you gained a follower.
Very nice work, I can only imagine that you’re enjoying your time. I truly hope it pays you well for your efforts..I can see you love what you do, I can only say thank you for your time. You make it look easy, the true sign of a professional.
Hi Jimmy, Frankie from Brisbane, Australia. I have been turning a few of your oriental square platters. A mate had a laminated chopping board and I made it into a platter with centre dish. Brought it down to 4 mm on the rim.
Outstanding. You amaze me every time I watch your videos. Still scared of the square. But getting help to over come that. Again thanks for a great job.
Always appreciate the little tidbits of info regarding angles to hold tools. As a novice trying to teach myself i struggle with speeds for various items so any info would be appreciated. Thank you
Thank you, I am very logical type - my engineering and physics background - setting speed higher to reduce the air to wood ratio in turning. I see a lot of turners who seem they could reduce wood damage by increasing the speed some. Granted it does also depend on balance of piece - great instruction video
I made one of these using homemade wooden jam chucks, because I'm poor, & been holding off on getting a chuck. What a pain in the ass that was. A Nova 3G or Record Power, would make life real simple.
Away the lads.........greetings from a fellow Geordie based in Athens, Greece. Loved the lesson, no wofflling on, typical Georgie, straight to the point and NO wasted time listening to uninteresting questions. Great Vid. What was the wood by the way? Cheers/George
Where are you located in Frederick? I live in Berkeley County, WV and I would love to visit you in your workshop just to learn more about wood turning. I just found this video on youtube today, April 10, 2020. Was amazed by your work.
Great video. All those shavings and suddenly out pops this unique treasure! You referred to the micro-bevel. Is this a secondary bevel on the cutting edge the same as you put on a plane blade?
Thank you! www.plusaf.com/woodshop/19-boxes/box-06a5.jpg Jimmy suggested to me to offer that idea to the AAW magazine and they accepted it! Other variations can be even better!
Thanks Maryland WTC for making this Video available. Watched this several times and still seeing more. Jimmy is certainly a Master Craftsman
Had the privilege to attend some of his classes, He turns fast……….. Excellent instructor
Jimmy, an awesome teacher and artist! Thanks MMWC for the video.
Six months into turning, watched this video about 20 times... maybe getting better enough to give this a try. Thank you Jimmy

You are the best Jimmy! Always explain everything so everyone can understand how to turn the correct way Thank You...

He actually says that near the beginning. He's rushing cos he's got two bits to do and it's a demo.
Yet another Class A performance. Thanks Jimmy
What a Master Class. Made it look so simple that you want to have a go. Thanks Jimmy
Well explained. Made it interesting to watch and listen. Few safety issues but the positive is; you made me risk access through out the job. Congratulations you gained a follower.

Impressive instruction on your technique.

Can't wait until February when he comes to demo for our club!!
That's craftsmanship.
Thanks for the upload.

Jimmy, what is the oil you use to finish? Thanks for a smashing video.
Im pretty sure if i tried this speed I would have a large square chunk of wood sticking out of the side of my head.
Very nicely done!
Nice work sir
Great Video Jimmy, thanks Mid Maryland WTC.
Bloody brilliant, I take my hat off to you.
Great demo. Even raw that box looks great.
BTW, you've got about 6 minutes of dead air at the end of the video.
The dead air is time for us to recover from the greatness we just watched lol
Damn, that was good, Jimmy.
You Geordies are canny lads!
The way Jimmy runs a bowl gouge is very instructive!
That is true art!❤️
Man what great craftsmanship, thanks for the video, I’ve never seen that type of tool your using what is it called?
Impressive piece. On my to do list now. Thanks for posting. Marc

awesome sharp teacher!
Jimmy... you might want to consider my 'keying system' idea for that kind of box so the lid aligns with the base, too...
