    Bradley, back in the 1970s, there were several guys who hung around at the Tinder Box who had humongous pipe kits that held as many as five pipes. There were some cheap vinyl versions, but if you didn't have the black leather Dunhill kits, you just weren't cool. I don't think any of those guys carried a wind cap, but you're right; it's essential for mobile s'ing. Good show today!

      I guess they wanted to be prepared, but FIVE pipes? Seems like overkill!

      @@stuffandthingsyoutube Actually, they mostly wanted to show off their high-end pipes, always perfectly shined. Pretty amusing.

    I have a whitluck canvas pipe roll that I got as a Christmas gift from my ex, which I still use. Nothing too big, but just enough to roll up the essentials, and it's very durable

    I've been thinking about making my own pipe roll from the leather I salvaged from our old sofas.
    They were made from expensive dark brown Italian leather and had served us well for nearly 30 years. The patina on some of the panels is beautiful and far too nice to consign to landfill, so I've got a few decent sized panels waiting for some inspiration.

    As far as zippo’s go, they make butane soft flame inserts. I prefer butane only because it’s easier to fill and doesn’t evaporate like the fluid does

    They do have butane zippo brand inserts these days which are nice so ur fuel doesn't evaporate

    Great Kit, Bradley! You should do an update on your Peterson old boy style silver pipe lighter and how its holding up after all these years! (I have been thinking on getting one and would love to see an update on it if possible!). Regards.

    Wonder kit you have there. I can see me unrolling that on the table at dinner the next time I am out! The best thing I saw was the pipe topper. I will be getting a couple of them

    For my on-the-go kit, I use a Porsche Design tamper, which is beneficial because it has a screw-down cap/shroud (like a lipstick) and, thus, I don't have to carry a tissue to wipe it off before stowing it away.

    I just use an old cigar box to physically transport my pipes and accessories. However, I primarily smoke in my car, so those supplies just stay in there. I would love a video/discussion about smoking in cars specifically, as doing so presents its own unique challenges.
    I agree about the zippo pipe insert. It does nothing/offers no advantage over a standard insert. I also use a BIC 99% of the time.

    I use my windcap a lot too, very useful little thing. Now you're only using your pipe outside, do you find your choice of pipe has changed?

  • @TommyHail

    I didn't think of using a wind cap for simply a type of stopper from having your tobacco come out of your pipe. I'll have to pick one up!

    Nice pipe roll. I have a question. How do you avoid burning the rims of your pipes when lighting your pipes outside? Does the wind cap help with this? It's usually pretty breezy here in Kansas. I usually only smoke cobs, or a couple estate pipes that I have that are already charred up, when smoking outside. When I'm at home, sometimes I light my pipe inside and then go out to avoid the issue. Just wondering.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  4 месяца назад

      Hmm... I usually just try to shelter with my body/other hand as I light. The wind cap can help a little.

  • @Meikarr

    What I am wondering about is if it's true that smoking a pipe indoors will unlike cigarettes not stain the walls/items in the room. I hear that all the time, but why shouldn't it color the walls? Is pipe smoke that different from cigarette smoke?

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  4 месяца назад +1

      It will still stain walls. Doesn't seem to do it as badly as cigarette smoke will, but it still does it.

      @@stuffandthingsyoutube Gotcha! That's good to know. And using a windcap as a lid is great, need to order some. I sometimes used a corc in order to keep the tobacco in the pipe while walking/working. Also practical but not as esthetic.

    I'm perplexed at how you don't see the Zippo pipe insert as vastly superior to the stock insert. I've tried both, and the standard insert flat out sucks in comparison to the pipe insert. Is it possible that you're not holding the pipe insert close enough to the rim of the bowl when drawing? I rest my pipe insert on the rim of my pipe, so the draw air aggressively pulls the flame into the pipe. The amount of heat this technique imbues to the T is not possible with the standard insert. I'd go as far as to say this technique is an order of magnitude better at lighting the pipe than any technique done with the standard insert.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  4 месяца назад

      Whatever works! I've just never found it difficult to light with the standard insert.
