    I tried to understand the point of those new type of holds. I still dont get it. Whats the point of it? Its just hard for the public to identify things. Also its pretty ugly.

      stripes make it harder to identify and especially gauge the distance to objects while the observer is moving (the same idea behind stripes on zebras and warships). I would wager it is better to use stiped holds when you want to force a climber to use a static beta.
