    What do you expect for $20. No one would try to kill a tool for the hell of it like you did!!! I am disabled and on a very tight budget, so most of the small power tool's I have are hyper tough stuff. I take care of them, and I do not expect them to do what the big guy's stuff dose!! I take my time, and respect what they can do!!!

      Its really only good for drilling smalle holes and that's about it. Having a variable speed trigger on this drill would make a huge difference for drilling and driving. For $17.99 at HF you can get a variable speed drill.

    A 30$ corded skil drill is a wrist breaker. It will push a 1 inch paddle like butter. I'd say spend 10 more dollars. Wonder how the other walmart drill does. Think its 30 or 35$

    Around the time you did this review, I bought this drill I am a painter. I left my drill at home and needed to mix/box 5 gallon pails. Sometimes I skim coat using green lid mud mid and a splash of water, maybe 2-3 oz and half a bucket. This is now my painting drill. I am surprised it still works. I didn't expect more than 6 months. There is a Harbor Freight drill like this but less amps. Yu can get if for about $14 with a coupon. I don't think there is any drill cheaper than this. If you haven't already, why not test it? I have had the 5" random orbit sander from Hyper Tough. Definitely worth the $16 I paid.

    For 20.00 it looks like it would have worked for your " tools did not make it to the job site" test. I am sure for a light use a home owner this tool would get some tasks done. One just needs to know what the tool is able to do.

    • @ryanshepherd6457
      @ryanshepherd6457 Год назад +1

      Bam! Sirrrr you nailed it
      Look at the price....
      There's a place for these tools.
      Don't take this obviously cheap drill to a construction site and expect it to handle business....it's basically putting a 5'5 130lb dude on the front line as a D-linemen and then telling him he's crap..trash....because he can't handle the 265lb dude who blows him over.
      That skinny dude is probably excellent at something else, but definitely not that.
      Use tools for their intended and well known limitations and purpose. An Ozark Trail pocket folder is not a Survival knife you'd expect to sustain harsh, heavy tasks....but daily carry for string and other small things will definitely suffice. It's 5 bucks...

    Hyper tough.....when you have to do a job in the most nasty place of all jobs. In the mud,porta potty,over all slop. Then after the job, (if it makes it through the job) you toss it in the garbage. Thats what I use my Black & Decker etc.. for. @ $20, its worth having a few laying around for those things in my opinion. Nice review guys, as always!!

    It's kinda shame they didn't make that one gear reduce the speed down to like 1000rpm, instead of 3000, you'd instantly get three times the torque and 1000rpm is still reasonably good for smaller drill bits (it's gonna drill those a LITTLE bit slower but that's still better than burning out the drill when you need it for some high torque applications) and since not a lot of people will only use it to drill 3mm holes, i think going with reduction to 1000rpm, rather than 3000 would be a much better decision. I just don't get it why always 3000rpm on these single speed drills... Nice demonstration, btw!

    I realize this was a torture test, but I've been pretty pleased with mine. Is it the best drill I own? No. Worth $20? Sure. Let the drill bits do most of the work, and it'll get the job done. Might even be faster in the end if you ease up on the pressure and avoid getting the tool stuck. Regular spade bits do just fine, I've done 1.75" through a 4x4... Again, letting the sharpness of the bit and the speed of the drill motor do 90% of the work, just enough forward pressure to advance it, no problems. I've done 2 1/8" holesaws through metal sheathed wooden doors. It did the job, though it did take a lot longer. Put a .75" step bit through the frame of my truck. No issues with that. Half inch drill bit, stepped down of course (3/8" chuck) through a 6x6 pressure treated post... Took some time, but light pressure meant no bogging. Honestly, my biggest gripe is that it doesn't have more torque for driving fasteners, and tends to slip or strip. Mid-speed setting and treating it like a semi-automatic rifle seems to be the best solution, if you don't want to drill pilot holes. With pilot holes, no problem. Would I rather use my DeWalt, or my Milwaukee, or another higher end (higher price point) tool? Of course. But the HT is still going after around 4 years, and I would say I've abused it a little bit, or at least asked it to over-perform it's design. I'll take my DeWalt over the HyperTough any day of the week, but if I forgot it (the reason I grabbed the HT to begin with - Walmart was closer than home, and I had a job to do), I would grab it. For the DIYer, or for a dedicated around-the-house drill, or a 'I just need a drill now to get this done', it'll get you by. Same sentiment for the 1/2" hammer drill (never used the hammer function though, so couldn't comment there). I wonder how the cheap HT would stack up against a cheap Harbor Freight. I would tend to consider both to be in the light duty "it's an okay tool" category.

  • @renaissancemen1
    @renaissancemen1 6 лет назад +5

    Vince! You aren’t using the drill for what it was intended for, i.e. door stop, paper weight, hammer, chalk for your trailer tire when parking on an incline, backup blender for the Mrs’s, corn on the cob speed rotator(that Asian girl wish she would have used this instead of that Hitachi hammer drill) and a skipping rock. That about covers it.

    I love the smell of fresh drilled lumber in the morning. But the smell of the burning insulation from the electric drill is another matter. Ever thought of hooking the drill to a prony brake setup, and then measure the electric current going into the motor? Naw, that's not Entertainment. Sorry, sup par review of the "Hyper not so tough drill". At least it will drive a screw into drywall, but how long will it last? Now this is the better question. I guess it evaporates the need for replacement Craftsman trigger switches at $18, when the whole drill can be had for under $20. I'll get the switch now, where I know it will last about 100,000 operations (10 to 20 years), vs the 10,000 operations of this model.

    Smells like china, but can it drill down to? Just picked this up for 15.00 last night.. I'll have to give it a go through 6" concrete and 2" titanium.. LoL ok I'll stick with a 2×4 and some 1" hardwood..

    Buy $20 Dewalt countersink set and treat it like gold. Then your drill doesn't have to work so hard.

    This drill is the perfect drill I need for less than $20. It suits my light-duty needs and I don't use a drill but for maybe twice a year at best for a couple of little projects. There is no justification in paying $150 to $200 for as much as I need a drill for. And this one gets the job done. 😁

    Nothing wrong with a cheap drill to do work you wouldn't want your other tools to do. Cleaning cylinder, intake manifolds and engine parts is a dirty dirty job. Like black and Decker Walmart drill if it gets covered in oil and coolant who cares kinda drill... The low torque and cheap metal are forgiving when bumped into a surface you wouldn't want to remove material from. Time and place for every tool if your smarter than the average bear.
