Let's face it, most of us will never be able to travel to these places in our lifetime. He goes on these trips for all of us. That's something I can definitely appreciate.
Great video TMF - thank you for taking us along. Big dry-bag plus top-box is my preferred touring luggage too. I like the way the bag supports your back and kind of gathers you up when you set off.
Great sentiment on our WWII heroes. I was lucky enough to travel to Bergen Op Zoom Netherlands with my grandfather in '04, who fought with the Canadian army and their regiment was part of that town's liberation. We went to Nijmegen and on to Arnhem for some 60th anniversary VE Day events. Before that, we stayed in East Grinstead, visited a now - private boys school where in 1944 he stayed with other soldiers before the D Day invasion. Also some local pubs where they hung out. What a trip that was. thanks for bringing back the memories for me and honouring our veterans.
I've watch this for the third time. And every time I see something different. An amazing adventure and fantastic scenery. So inspiring and hopefully once the world has some normality it is a definite one for the bucket list
Well worth the wait and eagerly looking forward to future instalments. Glad you put in the reminder of the great debt we all owe to the generation who gave their lives during the war so that we can enjoy the freedom we now almost take for granted.
Ditto....that said, I am struggling with buying the Wet head or a used 1200 air/ oil. Thoughts? Has the wet-head been treating its owners ok, or are they fraught with problems like HD's? Thanks for the ride. Trying the best I could, I have never been able to make it to that side of the pond. About the heat.... Get you a Motoport Suit! You will thank me over and over! You have the best bike... get the best gear! www.motoport.com
I appreciate this video is a few years old now. Just watched it though and thoroughly enjoyed. My father used to live in the Netherlands so i'm a definite fan, although it is veeery similar to my home county of Norfolk :)
Nothing better than a TMF tour series, and the anticipation at the start of a humongous one is palpable. Nice glimpse of some new kit there. Looking forward to seeing what it is and how it performs. Can’t tell yet what it is, but I bet it was pricey! I’m guessing gore tex. Great start.
We went to Arnhem last year and the airborne museum at Oosterbeck. Well worth a visit when you go back. You're right about The Netherlands, so clean and tidy.
Thanks for taking the time to make videos for us that are of amazing quality!!!! I'm watching episodes 1 and 2 again right now. Cant wait to receive my TMF blue t-shirt to sport around in New England. Thanks!!!!
It's been hugely enjoyable already, TMF, so I'd better strap myself down when we get to Oslo. What an exciting route plan. I'm not so sure about the height of that deckhead, though. At 6'7" I'd have my head down on the tank of my GS at that stage. Scary! I'm now really looking forward to the rest of this series. Safe roads 👍
First video of you that I'm watching and it's absolutely splendid. Well done. At 15.58 you're about a kilometer of my home actually, so that's nice to see as well. And you're absolutely right about the history of this area. A lot happened between here and Arnhem/Nijmegen. 17th of September we have the Market Garden commemoration on the Ginkelse Hei (about 10km along the highway from 15.58). It's still amazing. Hundreds of paratroopers from several countries jump then and we even had veterans jumping up to 2014 or so. Sad to hear your grandfather lost his life here in the war. He paid the ultimate price for our freedom. I can't take enough time to remember and thank these wonderful people who gave their lives for all of us.
Looks like it’s going to be a fantastic journey, bucket list stuff! Living in Australia it always amazes me how easy it is to cross countries throughout Europe, we can only cross states with such ease. Looking forward to following your trip 👍
Great ride TMF I was stationed in Osnabruck Germany with the Army for years. Holland and Germany were extremely clean and organized. My buddy bought a brand new ZZR600 their after we came back from a 6-month tour in Bosnia, I bought his car from him, he then proceeded to get his laces caught in the foot pegs and dropped the Kawi on its side and bust open the crankcase with all of 10km on it... Ironically I had to give him a ride home in his car I just bought, while he sulked like a baby all the way back to Devon... Thanks for taking us along for the ride!!!
Excellent start to what I’m sure will be an excellent series. The story of your grandad reminds us of how times change and how much we take for granted. Looking forward to the next one! 👍
I really enjoyed that, you manage to carry on chatting away in your helmet or to your selfie stick for 2 weeks just like its a real person!and then you edit it all up in a highly entertaining programme. Top effort, and thank you.
Important point well put re your grandpa, and so many other selfless sacrifices. We really don’t know how lucky we are so glad you referenced it. Cheers. Tuned in for the bike reviews but this is a great format that suits your style.
Excellent!! looking forward to all this .. I totally agree with you about visiting a War Grave Cemetery .. I have done a day trip to Ypres the last couple of years and it definitely puts life in perspective and makes you feel appreciation for those that gave their lives so we can do these things ...
Every British kid should be taken to the war cemeteries over in Holland just to remind them how lucky we are in this day and age. My father and I went on a battlefield tour about ten years ago and I can still remember the names of some of the young British soldiers that gave up their lives to protect our freedom, some as young as 16!!. Those cemeteries are maintained in an immaculate state even more than seventy years after the end of the war. . Not sure this would be the case if they where in the UK. Anyway a very interesting video . Stationed in Germany for 12 years and lots of those roads are very familiar. Look forward to following your trip wishing I was there also..
You were also very lucky on your Scotland trips. When I did the pass at Applecross it was wet and foggy. Couldn’t see a thing. Your Canadian trip looked epic. Still on catch up in answer to your question. Sold my bike for lockdown. But now in a position to purchase another so looking at short trips for next year. Thanks for the vids. They are great and very helpful 👍
What a great trip TMF! I cannot wait till the next episode airs on your channel! Very nice to see Kiel in your perspective from the GS. My wife and I were born and raised there. Although we already live now for 20 years in Munich we still miss the beach and the sea. Have a nice and safe journey, looking forward to the next episode.
The best part is the commentary, without trying to train us as fans just inform. I also don't like video with no commentary. Or video that put up comments on bottom of screen then they quickly disappear. Then I don't get to read it all because I wasn't ready .
Another great one TMF. Really looking forward to the series and so glad you took the time to remember those that gave so much at Arnhem, sadly too easily forgotten these days.
I must apologise, I’ve only just got round to watching this, ahh the memories of Harwich & the Stena Hollandica.. I use that crossing a lot in my proper job (tour trucker) but due to current circumstances I’m back doing UK work, Thanks to yourself, Teapot, Dickie Vegas & Chops for keep us entertained. 😎👍
Fantastic video & a lot of nostalgia for me as I used to work for Stena Line a couple of summers when I was a student, the second year I was even on that exact route on the HSS - can't believe the interiors of the ships and even the docks still look exactly the same more than 15 years later! But yeah, back to bikes lol. Cracking video, gonna save this series for when I get a chance to sit down and really enjoy it, thanks TMF!
Surreal to see things that I recognise in your videos, as I'm from a different part of the country. I drove to Denmark last year via north eastern Germany and the one thing I remember from the trip was lovely the show was in that big old ferry was after 13 hours of driving on the way back!
I was never interested in touring anywhere outside of the UK until I saw this. I am now seriously considering taking my GSA over to the continent. Nice video Mr Flyer.
Ha ha I use this service a lot, de ja vu for me, if I can if I ever need to go to Europe for business or in the motorhome, we go this way. Its just perfect, it leaves at 10.30 at night you arrive fully rested and fed ready for a long journey ahead. Brilliant service. Ironically, I have only ever used the tunnel if touring on my bike.
Nice to see you riding through my country! Just returned from a vacation to Norway, travelling on the same Kiel-Oslo ferry as you. Norway is such a beautifull country, have to go back there on the bike some time.
I've already thoroughly enjoyed this tour series once, however I'm watching it again as I've just bought a K1600GT with a plan of touring Norway this year. So your series will be of great use to me thankyou... I may see you again a few episodes down the road... Cheers!
I've just done 1800 miles around Scotland on Metzler Roadtec 01's on my ZZR1400. Absolutely incredible tyres. Wet, dry, gravel, poor asphalt, mud..no matter, they grip like sports rubber.
Yes they are good aren't they - I'm thinking abut getting another set once this lot are done (although I'm also thinking about the Michelin Road 5's which are supposed to be good)...
Fantastic video TMF! I am looking forward to watching to rest. We have some amazing motorcycling across the pond, but to be able to leave my house and explore Scandinavia, Spain, France, Italy, etc... it's enough to make a man burn with envy!
Looking forward to the rest of this series. Looks grand so far. Glad im not only one who notices just how low the ceiling of the ferries is when your on a bike.
Love your tour vids TMF, and this one is excellent, really interesting and I am already looking forward to seeing how you get on with the rest of the tour. Thank you and well done again, sir!
When we were in Germany in 2013, we hit temps of 42 degrees! We transferred from the Mosel to the Harz region and the traffic was horrendous! We were on the roads for around 12 hours. We had the 2013 FJR1300A back then. Fully loaded and two-up the bike performed flawlessly for the whole 2.5 week tour. Really enjoying this! It's on my bucket list. Sadly I lost my Wife Lynn last year so sadly she didn't get there. Looking forward to the rest of the tour.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Lynn and I rode together from 1984 (courting days) until 1990 (Child on way) then from 2004 to 2017. On average we'd do around 10,000 miles per year. I consider myself very fortunate to have had all those wonderful memories with her on the bike. I'm not sure if you know what happened last year in the Scottish Borders? RV knows about it. Basically we met up with a sports bike being ridden at speed through a stop sign at a crossroads on the B709/A708. Thanks for your kind words TMF.
Interesting, I thought I’d go back in time and check out your Norway trip. Yea motorways, not so much fun. But they get you where your going. Interested in the ferry, there both huge. Just started watching this tour and already enjoying it. Thanks for sharing. Interesting how you group of Brits are visiting a historic WWII site “A Bridge too Far” and you’re riding German bikes. Those ferries were humongous!!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer my grandfather of 100% British ancestry married his wife of 100% German ancestry in the U.S. just before WWII broke out. Interesting how those things workout.

Just started watching this tour and already enjoying it. Thanks for sharing. Interesting how you group of Brits are visiting a historic WWII site “A Bridge too Far” and you’re riding German bikes. Those ferries were humongous!!!
Yes an interesting point!
@@TheMissendenFlyer my grandfather of 100% British ancestry married his wife of 100% German ancestry in the U.S. just before WWII broke out. Interesting how those things workout.
Great stuff. ....really enjoyed it! ....looking forward to the next installment and the scenery! Steve
Thanks Steve - just editing the others now....stay tuned for the next few Fridays!
