Minnie Pearl! I love it
Musically, this is a great performance of a great song. That's par for the course with Sierra Ferrell. At first, though, I was taken aback by her outfit, which made me think of Minnie Pearl (apart from the nose ring), which adds a touch of irony, almost mockery--as if she weren't singing her heart out, which(as always) she is. Then it struck me how unconventional , even subversive, a gospel song this really is. The line "praise you and stand" has its source in the Psalms and would be at home in any gospel song. But she is asking the Lord to hear what she is praying for, which is not eternal life in heaven, it's the divinity of life "here on this earth." The birds are singing "for the day," as she puts it--and so is she. She wants the Lord to know this--to know that she wants to stay "here on this earth," where she can stand and offer praise. This rousing song is a beautiful, honest and moving statement of this woman's true faith.
Yes, I saw Minnie Pearl at first too. Pretty sure that was intentional. (but no hat tag) If Minnie was ever that hot (Bless her Heart) it was long before my time. As to your thoughts on the religious connotations of the song. I wholeheartedly agree. Some might take it as sacrilege but they would not be being truthful with their selves. Damn right everybody wants to stay. That does not denote a lack of Faith, just a fear of transition. As I said in a previous post to this video, "I think this a very reasonable request". Beautiful song by a very talented young Lady. I can't get enough of her music. Enjoyed reading your post William, your words are well put. Better than I could relate. Cheers.
