Thank you so much for your lovely videos. I get so depressed at times, and it's not just down to the clutter in my house but the clutter in my life too.
Sometimes I just watch your videos because hearing your happy, reassuring voice and seeing your gentle manner calms me down. Sometimes I only need to see your bright smiling face on the thumbnail of one of your videos to feel a little brighter myself. So thank you and bless you.

The start-stops are what add to my feeling overwhelmed. It sometimes takes a while to get motivated to organize and just when I find my rythym I have to spend a day or 2 making phone calls or paperwork that needs my full attention, which includes going out to a copy/fax center, blah blah. The following day is a day of recovery due to joint pains and this brings on feelings of guilt. But Noreen, your tips are awesome and I look forward to putting them to good use. You are so encouraging, thank you 💜

I use to not be so bad at not letting clutter overwhelm me but the older I get the worse I get. The one thing that is bothersome is I don't have a lot of space to put things. I am a wanna be crafter and so I have accumulated a lot craft'supplies that I am trying really hard to sort through. I love watching your videos.

Are they NEW things that don't have a category home... or is the home for them not set up so you can get to it easily?? My wood working space is one of my worst organized areas, because I don't have an efficient system to store/organize my wood. So when I bring more in... it just gets set down where it will fit! This means it's in the way of me putting things away now - and the entire area spirals out of control - every time! I'm working on improving my system right now - but it was figuring out what wasn't working that allows me to fix it. I hope that wasn't too long and confusing of a suggestion.

As always, great advice! I'd remind everyone that the timer isn't something you are racing, it is counting down until it's "recess" time. Sometimes, giving yourself some little incentive helps...I'm gonna do this for 15 minutes, then I get to play candy crush, watch a RUclips video, spend time on my craft project, go to dairy queen...whatever. If the timer is really stressful, put on music...work for 4 songs.

I'm not a big fan of the alarms - but I do have a playlist on Spotify that is called "Communing with the Domestic Goddess". If I want to do some cleaning, I put that on. A couple of songs for short tasks, the whole list for the housecleaner, and there isn't the shock of an alarm when I get in the zone. If I feel overwhelmed, I do just one song. All progress is good. (Because I use the same playlist every time, it trains me to do when I hear it, and I am very familiar with how long its been based on which song. I have some aspergers so repetition works for me).

I took your advice and got off the couch and got started organizing. I worked for 2 1/2 hours and I feel great! I set a timer and I found myself not wanting to stop after the timer went off. I set the timer for 30 minutes and I was surprised how much I was able to get done. I also looked on Amazon and found some cute wind up timers ⏲ I know it’s adding to the clutter but it has a purpose so it’s not so bad if I buy it. 😆
I’m currently not working but when I did I worked in a stock room and I had to keep it organized. It’s funny how it’s true that you can’t always keep up with your home like you would at your job. I’m gonna start organizing as if I’m working. Work for two hours take a break work for another two hours take a lunch and so on. I mentally overwhelm myself so much that I just say forget it like you said in the video about going in a room and then just closing the door but I’m feeling more confident that I can start and I know it won’t be perfect because that’s been my problem also that if I can’t have it just the way I want it then why even bother. So now I’m going to tackle it with a new mindset. Thank you so much for all the great tips and Motivation! 💜

I am so sorry I don't have a magic answer for this.... I'd be rich if I could find a way to get partners to do the same. And married still. LOL All you can do is 1. try and explain how the chaos makes you feel and hope they respect and help more.... 2. focus on your areas and hope that the order becomes appealing... and 3. have a place you can go to that is just yours for when it all becomes overwhelming. I have a wonderful Facebook group where we just support each other in all ways - if you'd like to join. My grown son and I live in my parrnts' house, they both passed a couple years ago and my son doesn't want to let any of their things go. As such we have a not-all-that-big house filled with two houses worth of stuff I don't seem able to make any head way with. I'm hoping a tidy area of mine will run off on my son and I try to keep a little sanctuary for myself in my bedroom that I just revamped. Still, there are those days... 🙀😖🥺😢🤬

@@katv1195 Kat, that's brilliant about the heirlooms! When my parents passed my son and I got left with an absolute mess! We'd been here caring for both both of them and the house got put on the back burner, so yeah... Speaking of the back burner, we installed just the other day, all by ourselves, a new (used) cooktop as the one my parents had had one burner that worked all the time and one that was quite temperamental and worked only if it felt like it.
I just dont want to leave my son with a house full of cra... uh, I mean treasures from my parents AND me. Not that I'm going anywhere soon, but one doesn't really know, does one? If we can work together on this now while I'm still here, physically as well as mentally/emotionally, it would divide the chore and everything that comes with it in half. I would like to say your videos are the best ever. You're such a wonderful talented woman. I'm 72 years old and I cannot organize anything never could! Watching your videos have helped me so much understand what people are talking about I work in organized chaos I may Have 3/4 projects going at once. I love to make gnome chandeliers paper flowers coffee filter flowers everything now ribbon flower beautiful. So I've been listening to you for a long time I usually don't comment but on this video I had to. It was wonderful and when you turned it around to no timer and do this instead helped tremendously. I bought several cubes a little alone. So now I have a u shape with the fabric cubes in them neatly labeled and I know where things are at. I made me a pegboard that stands up that way I can keep up with all my stickers and everything not in way it's right in the middle of the cubes. I bought nice ones not extra expensive but they are made of wood. So they look really nice and then I have my menzanita tree, gnomes, huge paper flower on a tree limb etc so it looks really nice when you walk into my house I have my little craft table in front of my chair and I keep my items that I'm needing for the project I'm working in a tote bag. And when I'm through I go put it up in the appropriate cubes. I'm working on the bedroom now since I retired I certainly don't need 3 closets worth of clothes. Sorry this is so long I am a long-winded person LOL. But I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me understand what people have talked about for years I'm just do things clean up tidy up but it always looks like it's totally lived in now it looks a lot better and I'm very happy with it. I will continue watching your channel every time it comes up I saved your videos where I can go back and refresh my memory cuz it's not too good. You're so sweet and your voice is so easy to listen to and you don't have all that music noise in the background I can actually hear what you're saying. Instead of an alarm, another option is to listen to a playlist of 5-10 songs or listen to a podcast

I find organizing fills my mind when it is time to sleep. How do I focus on sleep? I write down what I will try and do tomorrow but it still fills my mind. Can you please help me?????

I try and think of a random category (Fruit, animals, foods) and go through the alphabet finding one for each letter in order. It keeps the anxiety that comes with my brain making non-stop 'to-do' lists busy until I fall asleep.

It IS hard! I'd keep some things stored for the boys, if you can... just to save having to replace items if you need them later. But minimizing what they have in their room may help them and you. 💜 Consider me your personal cheerleader and giver of suggestions! 💜
